Region specific sets? Seriously? Such as which? (Me feels like an utterly ignorant person now for not knowing what you mean...)
-
He's not wearing a trench coat, then? I'd love to see TLC tackle that one... But hey, a classic outfit Han Solo is cool in my books. I still need one! The sets you describe sound amazing! Thanks for all the info, ForceMaster! Sounds like 2009 will be a fantastic year for Original Trilogy collectors.

Thanks for the compliment, Crazy One (if you're crazy, I sure like your taste though). But yeah, like pretty much everyone here says - TLC doesn't think the market is big enough. While I generally agree with this, the Speed Racer and Avatar sets surprise me. If Who is deemed too "niche", why the heck do those two? Oh well. All we need is for the Beeb to convince other countries to broadcast Who and advertise for it as much as in the UK. Either that, or Peter Jackson should make a feature film based on a Steven Moffat script. The LEGO Doctor Who sets would sell like mad all over the world then. So yeah, it's not that impossible. Oh, to have an official mini Eccleston and Billie.... *drool*

Okay, they did. More than a YEAR after the last set was released. That's not announcing it. That's finally admitting it. (In my not so humble view, anyway.) Couldn't they use the end of a line as a marketing stunt? "As a farewell we TLC give you the fans what you've wanted for two years: the Tumbler!" While what they did was just bring out four not-too-inspired sets. Only one and a half new minifig. Harley and a variation on Bats. Did we really need another Robin, Penguin, Joker and Freeze? Couldn't they have squeezed Gordon in one of those sets? I'm a fierce believer in ending with a bang, in any field. Ending with a bang this ain't. Ending with one sparse majeur note after a mineur bar, that's what this is to me. Aw, listen to me, all complaining! I absolutely love what TLC did with the Batman line. There are some great figs out there and some of the sets were totally brilliant. I just have a qualm with how they handle terminating their lines.
-
Your view on this is the same as mine, Natelite... They never really came out and said "Harry Potter is dead!" either. But hey, when asked for the facts, I present the facts without interpretations. That said... Our mini Dark Knight will be missed. Yay for the great figs and sets that we got!
-
Ashoka seems to be asking. Remove the question marks though, and it's all fact (as far as we know). No new Batman sets in 2009, but there's no definitive long-term cancellation announced.

The Cairo set sounds cool! As for the plane battle, I'm not that interested. Just Indy, Atilla and a notzi... Meh. Like someone said, we've got the Motorcycle chase for that. Though I guess it could be a good set if you like planes. :) Thanks for the description, ForceMaster! It would make sense for TLC to do a jacketless Indy this year. He'd fit in both the Cairo set and the Temple of Doom. That'd be the third version of Indy within a year! TLC really wants to please the fans. Very nice.

R2, Anakin and Ahsoka would be a tad disappointing - they're already in The Twilight and they both have their own starfighter. But you're right, it is a typical lineup.

- I think you'll find many people posting in this thread know full well there is no hope for an official LEGO Who line. - The Comic Con is a place where only fans of one or another pop culture phenomenon gather. It makes perfect sense to find a lot of people there buying Doctor Who stuff. Why is that? It's their only chance because without these conventions, the only place you can find Who merchandise is in British toystores. Which brings us to the last point. - This one is two-fold. First: TLC producing "childish" lines is to be expected. LEGO is a toy, believe it or not, aimed mostly at kids. Check the age advice printed quite large on any LEGO set. "Over 18" hardly ever appears. And then your complaint that TLC doesn't listen to the "people". I think TLC has proven many times they DO listen to their buyers. There has been AFOL input on quite a few occasions throughout the years. AFOL's have begged and pleaded for Pirates to return. Lo! A new Pirates theme in 2009. AFOL's have begged and pleaded for civilians in Castle sets. Lo! A Castle set with civilians in 2009. Now of all times it strikes me as painfully bad timing to say TLC doesn't listen to the people. On a related note: TLC's reason not to produce a Who line comes down to "it's not big enough". Which I totally agree with. Yes, in the UK Doctor Who is rightfully massive. I wish it was everywhere, because it is a show of unrivalled quality and imagination. But the sad fact is that outside Britain, only a relative small amount of people know and love Who. Let alone kids of the right age to buy heaps of Who LEGO. 'Cause that's how many people will need to buy if TLC wants to make a profit: heaps. And the UK alone can't provide those heaps. I wish it were different, but c'est la vie.

Except that TLC seems to be pulling the plug on Batman. Otherwise, yes, all it would've taken was a little paintjob.
-
A classic Cyberman and Doctors 1, 5, 6 and 9. Nice! Did you catch the little "tribute slideshow" in The Next Doctor?
-
Not that I'm contributing much to the conversation, but I have to say: ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! The guys who have kindly said it looks like an official set are mistaken. It looks way better than an official set!

Since I didn't deem any seperate creation worthy of an entire topic, I thought I'd pile 'em up here. Starting with some tv show characters: House M.D. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (From left to right: Angel, Giles, Buffy, Xander, Willow) Doctor Who (The top one is the 10th Doctor, the lower three are captain Jack a work-in-progress Martha Jones and series 4 Rose Tyler) On to the movies. The Lord of the Rings Pulp Fiction (From left to right: Jules, Vincent, Mia, Butch and the Wolf) And finally two game characters. Kyle Katarn from the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series and Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider Feedback is always appreciated! Perhaps you've made some of the same characters into minifigs. Posting a pic here might lead to interesting comparisons. Who knows, we could use this thread to create "ultimate" designs of fictional characters not licenced by TLC. (Note: I only use official parts, but I'm not a custom hater - feel free to show your own designs.)

Understandbly blurry for prelims. I'd much rather skip the prelim pics, they tend to disappoint and not look anything like the usually fabulous end results. Lego Castle has returned to greatness with the Fantasy Era. It looks like that form will be continued. An orc fortress! A set with a jester and a queen! I'm looking forward to Castle 2009 very much.

[Brick Flick] My updated LEGO Clone Wars animation
Mr Spielbrick replied to -JD-'s topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Amazing stuff, man. Your images work very well with the official sound from the movie. The battle looks really big with your many clones and droids, impressive! And the bit at the very end has me in stitches. -
Like the others apparently, I had some difficulty choosing. It's been a wonderful year for Castle minifigs. In the end I went with the Jester, but I love the Dwarves and the good Wizard as well.

Batman will be discontinued? WHAT?! C'mon, we need.... Well. Okay. They did a lot of the major villains and most of the iconic Batman costumes. But still... Bummer, man. Harry Potter gone, Batman gone... What are we getting in return? Don't say Indy, we have that one already. And Star Wars has been running since I was 10, so that one is a given too. Licences die pretty fast these days. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last two years we've seen the death of these lines: - Harry Potter (apparently) - Batman (apparently) - Spiderman even though there was a third film - Avatar - Speed racer but granted: that was a one-off deal anyway What remains? Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Spongebob. Now, SW and Indy I love, but do we need Spongebob? Okay, I'm an AFOL, so my perspective is different than that of the main target group. But dang... Good thing Castle and Indy are going strong, or - dare I say it - my Second Dark Ages would be coming very soon.
-
DOCTOR WHO! We need definitive minifig scale Daleks! Seriously, there's a lot to make... An almost endless line of minifigs and monsters. Though that is probably exactly what would keep LEGO from doing Who: too many original molds needed. TARDIS interior(s) and exterior can be made fairly easily though... As can the Doctors and companions. In licences, TLC has a thing with vehicles, right? Well, how about: - TARDIS - military trucks from UNIT - normal car for a Father's Day set - motorbike for a The Idiot's Latern set - spaceships (Slitheen, Daleks, captain Jack) - or even Bessie, if we're going for classic Who Okay, it's never gonna happen. But it would be fantastic.

Fantastically detailed review of a fantastically detailed set, thanks very much! I'm going gaga over that mini Willie (no pun intended). She's probably my least favourite character from the old trilogy, but by Jove does she make for a sexy minifig! Indy's new tux is very pre-credits-sequence-Bond-in-Goldfinger, I love it! All those new faces! Black fedoras! Hey, wait a minute. I'm in heaven... so who killed me?!
-
Professor Henry Jones, Sr. He looks so much like Sean Connery, I actually expect him to pack his bags one day and go to Scotland! One tiny piece of critisism: his hat could have been a little better. This one covers -just- too much of his face. But hey, it's LEGO so his legs are blocky and whatnot... I think Henry Sr is the nearest to perfection TLC has come with the Indy line so far.
-
The fighter plane "race" is from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It's the bit where Henry Jones Sr wonders what happens at eleven o'clock and subsequently shoots his own plane to smithereens. Well... he renders it useless, anyway. (Great script if you ask me! And very well performed by sir James Bond.)
-
Alright, the names are out! That means the waiting for pics has officially started. They all sound cool to me. It's great to see TLC back on the right track with Castle. It's the theme that got me out of my Dark Ages (kind of fitting, right - Castle / Dark Ages? ) Picture hunt on!! (Anyone remember when there used to be numerous posts ending with "(something) on!"? I miss those days... )
-
Please please please, let Sallah be included in the Egypt set. The Temple of Doom set sounds great. Mola Ram?!?! The air battle and Mutt chase, I care about a lot less... I'm mainly a minifig lover and I already have Indy, Henry Sr and Mutt. Though a dark green notzi would be awesome. Please, TLC? Because of the 20 year anniversary of Last Crusade? Please? (How awesome would it be to have a set of the bookburning?! Indy in nazi uniform plus an Adolf Hitler minifig. I know, I know: NO CHANCE, AMIGO! It looks pretty damn sexy in my imagination, though.*) * Obviously NOT because of any Hitler sympathies, cause I don't have those. But to me, that scene is the best use of Adolf Hitler in any movie ever: making him a joke. (The Great Dictator would be top, but that's not literally mister H. Plus the man himself apparently loved it, which is kind of... ew.)

LEGO Doctor Who minifigs by Mr Spielbrick
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Sand red cape, eh? Sounds like a good idea for Six, Hewkii! Last time, I said I was working on six things: Martha, Rose, captain Jack, Donna, the Daleks and the TARDIS interior. Time to present the first three. Mind you, Martha is a work in progress (I'm not happy with the face and hair). Been goofing around with Dalek pieces, but it's looking less cool than when I was taking notes of which parts to use. Haven't put Donna together yet. As for the TARDIS: it's exactly what I want it to be so far, but one Bricklink order being late is causing some delay. Anyway... New captain Jack, WIP-Martha and series 4 Rose: -
Niiiice carriage! Would look great in any Harry Potter, Sleepy Hollow or Victorian scene. As for the front turning... Can't you put a 2 x 2 plate with an idependently turning circle in the middle, right behind the chair?
