  1. After doing some Doctor Who minifigs, I'm currently trying my hand at the Lord of the Rings characters. The first six look thus: (From left to right: Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Aragorn and a Nazgul.) Maybe I can stick with LotR for a while, but not (yet) having the new Castle sets makes that a bit difficult. I have idea's for other tv and film related minifigs too, perhaps they will come before more LotR and Doctor Who.
  2. Of course I'm nowhere near exhausted on possible Doctor Who minifigs. As Hewkii pointed out, the new series alone already boasts a lot of cool characters I haven't yet made. But at the moment, I'm anticipating LEGO's summer sets. It looks like the Agents and Indiana Jones lines will have minifig parts that would fit nicely for certain Doctor Who characters (an updated Tenth Doctor, a Ninth Doctor, a better Rose...). At the moment I'm reorganising all my LEGO. Perhaps I'll find a cool torso or a perfect haircut for another DW character. For now though, I think a short break from DW minifigs on my part is most likely. But, as I said: my 'line' will be continued in summer (if not sooner) for sure! In the meanwhile I'm trying to tackle other non-lincenced tv/film productions. For instance, I've just uploaded my first batch of Lord of the Rings minifigs on my Flickr page. DOCTOR WHO will return in The CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON Years
  3. Ah yeah, true, the helmet is different. But it's still in the same colour. As is the beard. -mutters grumpy incantations aimed at TLC- Here's hopin' for a darkbearded bronzehelmeted impulsedwarf (aren't those three pretty words? :-D). If the Castle Advent Calendar will be widely available, we will actually get a darkbearded goldhelmeted sortofimpulsishdwarf. That'd be a step in the right direction. :-)
  4. Yep, it's your turn now. Do realize that if you fall short of our standards, you will be frozen in carbonite. *vader* Nah, I think you're gonna do fine. I'm looking forward to seeing Star Wars: Wrath of the TIE Army! The title sure sounds cool. *y*
  5. What bums me out is that TLC put the exact same dwarf in the Troll Ship and Dwarf Defender sets. This mean we have to buy the Mine to get different dwarves! :'-( I'm not that rich...
  6. If TLC's gonna do a CW battlepack, I'll -have- to buy CW stuff, ghehe. Can't call myself a real Lego Star Wars fan if I don't have at least one clone! *wacko*
  7. Judging by the high-res pic (tf23_08) of the AT-TE (7675), the clones will have flesh heads. I hope they got some Jango-ish print, but I bet that's wishful thinking. Usually the stormtrooper heads have been blank, the same will probably go for these. Obi's head looks less cool in high-res, if you ask me. Particularly the hairpiece looks weird. Why can't they use the new Mutt from Indiana Jones hairpiece? The ARC trooper 'skirt' and 'necklace' (no idea what the proper terms would be) look like solid plastic or at least gummy. No tearable fabric, yay!
  8. They're coming out summer this year. And why exactly do some keep complaining that it's not OT? What else on the OT would you want, they've already done like THREE x-wings... X-O Edit: V-19 seems to only have one clone, THE-FORCE.
  9. Ghehe, looks like you got another jedi to deal with, General Zen. :-P I'm looking forward to the comic. Any tidbit is very welcome (hint hint X-D)
  10. My first LEGO set ever was from what you'd probably consider Classic Castle. It was the tree with the wizard. And since it was a cheap set, I got that one in multitude for my then birthday, ghehe. With the Bat-Knight theme I once again bought/got some Castle sets. You can argue that the 'fantasy aspect' had already kicked in at that point. There WERE dragons, after all. So now LEGO's doing all out 'fantasy' Castle sets. And hey, my old friend the wizard seems to be back in a cheap set! Sure, his face has changed. Sure, his clothes have a slightly different colour (still blue). Sure, his wand is different. Sure, he's got another kind of bird this time around. But with 2007/'08, Castle is once more as attractive to me as it was when I was a youngster. It was a Castle set that brought me out of my Dark Ages for Majisto's sake! The very pretty 7090 Crossbow Attack had me fall in love again with the common 'soldiers' (now dubbed Crownies?) and the brand new evil skeleton on his fantastically designed skeletal horsey. Now, I've always liked fantasy elements thrown into any mix. Among my favourite films at the moment are Jurassic Park, the first Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney's Robin Hood. Hm... Big monsters, skeletal evildoers and dashing but childfriendly medieval adventures. Referring back to the new Castle line, I'd say check! check! and check! However, I still need to get used to the shiney armours and weapons. Those could've remained dark grey, if you ask me. And yeah, in general the new sets and minifigs (and dragons...) are a lot more detailed than the old ones. Does that render the oldies obsolete? I think you can have mostly the same adventures with the classic line. There's kings, wizards, knights and dragons. The skeletons can easily mix with the oldies. Perhaps the dwarves and trolls look a bit detailed next to ye olde minifigs, but if you don't like new Castle they're usually the actual reason why. So I think most of the older themes and characters have been given a facelift, but I can see why people could still prefer the old sets. I guess it's everyone's personal choice. I never had much classic Castle, so I like the chances the new line gives me. If others want to keep it to the old sets, let them. It's a matter of visual taste and some nostalgia, I guess. Like with films. Some like remakes better than the original. In this case, both the original and the 'remake' (if I may be so bold as to call the new line that) have their distinctive charms. Somewhat different from each other, but both charming in their own way.
  11. Yay, Obi-Wan seems to look good! Loving the elite clones Rex and Cody. Very very very cool armour! The alien jedi are also pretty. Nice sets. The Republic Gunship set looks even better to me than the 2002 one. This new version has great jedi, which is a huge plus for me. If the Hutt-thing is a bad guy... Would it be a mistake to assume they're putting 1 villain in every big Clone Wars set? If so, I'd looove to get Count Dooku with the tank set. And if 1 human jedi plus one 1 alien jedi is also a rule, can we expect Mace and Yoda in the tank set too? That'd be soooo sweet!
  12. 10 years of LEGO Star Wars.... Hmm.... Something with gravitas, we need. Easy to design such a set, it is not. The Blockade Runner (ANH or RotS) seems to be blockade front runner. Cool idea but the minifig selection for either version is hardly exciting. Geonosian Arena.... Cool idea but the Star Wars line isn't based on scenery, but on vehicles. And since AotC itself isn't even 10 years old when the anniversary takes place, it would be a somewhat debatable choice. A TPM set, perhaps? After all, LEGO SW started when TPM came out. A Naboo cruiser would be cool, but needs to be chrome, which isn't popular with TLC itself. And there's the same problem as with the Runner in terms of minifig selection, if you ask me. Umpteenth edition of the MF, then? No, thanks. Plus, Han's ship would hardly clock in at the 150 dollar mark. I think pretty much everything from the OT has been done to death by now. They even made a T-16 skyhopper for Pete's sake! However, two obvious OT "scenes" are still missed. A minifig (partial) Death Star and the Mos Eisley Cantina with band (note: they did release a version of it with just Han & Greedo). The Death Star has the problem of an overfamiliar minifig line-up. If you want Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie and R2 you can buy the latest X-Wing. Vader, 3PO, Obi-Wan and Tarkin might be a little harder to come by these days, but they're hardly a great addition. We're looking for something exciting and new, right? So how about the Cantina? What? Oh. Yeah. I spy Luke, Han, Chewie and Obi-Wan. Sound familiar? However! There are tons of aliens in the canteen who haven't been done AT ALL by LEGO. That hammerhead thing, the species of the bandmembers, et cetera. Heck, another chance to get Greedo sounds good, right? I'm not at all sure what the Big Tenth Anniversary Set should be. I agree with the 'preferably no Clone Wars set' idea and yeah, an AotC or RotS set would be odd since both films came out after 1999. Which leaves us with TPM and the OT. But, like I said, I feel pretty much everything from those 'sub-themes' has already been done to death. And personally I don't give a damn about UCS sets, so I'm at a loss for idea's myself. If I had to vote, I guess at this point I'd vote for The Mos Eisley Cantina, but to be honest: I'm still waiting for someone to come up with The Perfect Idea. (Edit: Do I qualify for the 'Most Abbreviations In One Post Award'? ;-) )
  13. Elves would make sense. Think about it logically - they started with humans versus living skeletons, plus the odd dragon or two. Then came the dwarves and the orcs/goblins/trolls. Indeed that sounds a whole lot like the people of Middle-earth or some other fantasy worlds. Adding elves seems like a logical next step. If TLC thinks the same way, I'd love that! Bring on Legolas! I'd also love it if TLC did some farms with peasants (pitchforks! animals!). Skeletons and/or trolls could raid, pillage, plunder the civilian houses (or otherwise pilfer their weasely black guts out ;-) ), prompting the knights to defend their people. Makes for at least one good set, if you ask me.
  14. Niiiice work by Keshen! As has been said, a lot of the details are there in a very creative way. There's some other good LEGO Batman short films out there. Like . Lots of detail there, too. Both shorts mix fleshies and yellows, which I don't like, but I guess it's the way most of us would go if you wanted to do both the actual LEGO Batman characters and mass scenes (fleshies aren't so readily available by the dozens...). Great work by those guys, I salute them!
  15. Apart from the mysterious Rotta/Notta and the standard droid, I love the figs! Sure, I already have a clonewarized Anakin, but that ARC trooper is sweeeeeeet, I'll grab my chance to finally get Ep 2 clones and the Ashuka fig looks pretty nice too. Like has been said: bring on the same sort of pic for the RGS! I wanna see that clonewarized Obi-Wan and Asajj Ventress and Plo Koon!
  16. What is a 'jumper', Dr S? I'd love to do Mickey, but he's gonna be difficult for me. I'm doing the Doctor Who 'line' in flesh tone (according to the LEGO license policy, any official figs would be fleshies too) and Mickey is black. Since I have not (yet) got a black face, I'm postponing everyone's favourite Cyberman killah for the time being. You can expect an Eccleston Doctor down the line, but I'm waiting for the arrival of an 'excellent part' to make him perfect. Don't expect him in the too near future, but I can make my plans for him concrete within a few months. (Ooh, being cryptic!) However... Since past Doctors seem to be in demand... I've tried to minifigurize Jon Pertwee's third Doctor: and Patrick Troughton as the second Doctor, accompanied by the brigadier:
  17. Heath's work on The Dark Knight was fully completed, see www.aintitcool.com Filming finished a while ago and he had done all his voice dubbing. So Ledger's role as the Joker was entirely finished before he died. I hope they lock the Joker in Arkham at the end. Safely behind bars, but not actually dead. Good decision to change the marketing campaign. The "Why so serious?" poster already looks odd, with Ledger gone. Must be weird to see him in theaters later this year. By the way: I doubt the release date will be changed. Ledger's work was complete, so in that way his death 'doesn't change the plan'. So many companies are tied to the movie release date (toys, comics, making of books, posters) that film companies don't easily change the release date. The only thing they can do is dedicate the film to Ledger, if you ask me. And while they're on it, dedicate it to the stuntman who died on set, too. A great actor has died far too young. May his family (particularly his 2 years old daughter) and friends be able to deal with the grief amidst the worldwide hype.
  18. I've been busy trying to turn two popular companions into minifigs. I kinda like how Sarah Jane turned out, but Rose can definitely be improved, I think. And then, there's always... the DALEKS! I've tried to "improve" the design Doctor Sinister posted... ...and I came up with a design of my own. To be honest, I'm not extremely pleased with either of them. The upper version was quickly put together, using any part at hand (hence the random colour scheme). The lower version looks quite big and bulky. Again the colours bother me, in this case the various shades of grey. Hmm... I might get back on the Daleks some other time, if I can figure out a better design. Have a look (if you want) at both versions of the Dalek from all sides on my Flickr page.
  19. You're right about the laser screwdriver, steelharbingerofdeath. Putting that stud on was a quick solution, cause I wanted to post the Master fig as soon as I finished him. I'm still rummaging through my LEGO, looking for a dark trans-yellow stud. Unorganized crates of LEGO is what I found when I returned from my Dark Ages... As for the flesh versus yellow debate. I think I got all the parts (faces) to do the same figs in yellow. I'll upload the alternative figs later this week. Cool TARDIS, casewindu! How did you do that doorknob? Wow! That is one amazing Dalek Emperor, hewkii9! LEGO couldn't have designed it better if they'd have made an official set. It's interesting to see the similarities and the differences between all of your Daleks, Brainbox, hewkii9 and Doctor Who Sinister. All three of you worked the two 'weapon arms' into your design, but Brainbox's is the only one with two lights on the head and hewkii's is the only Dalek with a blue 'eye'. I'll try to incorporate all of your idea's into one Dalek... But I'm already worried about scale with so many details. Nevertheless, I'll see what I can come up with. First a bit of advice to ask, though. What parts did you guys use in the center of the body? You have studs on multiple sides of your Daleks, what's the secret to that look?
  20. Thanks for the comments, everyone! Cool Daleks, Dr Sinister. They're pretty much minifig scale, aren't they? I think I might borrow some of your techniques... ;-) Other icons like the TARDIS (phone box and coral interior version) are in the pipeline. My problem with the Ood and to an extent the Cybermen, is that I'm not keen on 'custom' pieces. I try my best on Doctor Who stuff with official LEGO. Of course, some things might just be brickbuildable, so I wouldn't rule out the Ood, Cyberman and other aliens just yet. The Master versus the Doctor - will the laser or the sonic screwdriver win?
  21. Thanks to the new series from 2005, I've discovered Doctor Who. Now we're up for the fourth new season, the third with David Tennant as the 10th Doctor. I've just started to make my own Doctor Who minifigs. The first result of this can be seen in this post, new creations will follow as I finish them. Feel free to post constructive critisism and perhaps even your own Doctor Who creations! The Doctor & Donna Noble
  22. Name: Wrennog 'Wrenn' Olben Age: 54 years old (at the time of the Battle of Yavin) Home planet: Coruscant Character: grumpy Belongings: a walking cane (also useful for whacking!), tools to design/modify and fix all kinds of vehicles, a standard short blaster History: Former owner of a luxurious airspeeder factory and shop. The Empire jailed him for not selling to Imperial officers. Olben escaped when the Rebels freed former senator Ra Guptah in a daring rescue operation. He walks with a cane since he injured his right leg during an airspeeder testrun. VERSION 1 (my preferred version) VERSION 2 (you can use this one too, or mix parts of the two versions, depending on what you have) Oops! I forgot to picture his walking cane. Just use the standard black or brown lightsaber. :-$ Note: My one hundreth post here on EuroBricks! Yay!
  23. This line is definitely "one to watch" for me. I'm digging the weapons, new hair (does the brunette sport a ponytail with two Lara Croftian strains of hair dropping over the face?) and cyborg villains. Ooh, and sharks! Could look great in a Jaws MOC. If only they'll improve the crocs in the same way. They look at bit eighties compared to the new monsters (dinosaurs, Hogwartian creatures and apparently new sharks). When will these come out? Summer this year?
  24. The Lost Tomb is an extremely good representation of the scene, if you ask me. Indy, Marion, the snakes, the statues, the torches, the skeleton, the Ark... it's all there. Even the hieroglyphic of R2 and 3PO shows up both in the film and in the set! No sir, pardon me, but I think The Lost Tomb is a brilliant set. As far as my ranking goes, I'd say: 1. Motorcycle Chase 2. Lost Tomb 3. that set with the classic boulder and gold idol 4. the truck set
  25. Speaking of not having stuff.... Could you give us a global list of what sets you've got? I mean, not detailed like: - 7673 Magna droid fighter - 7674 V-19 torrent - etc... But more like: - most of the HP Chamber of Secrets sets - some Rock Raiders stuff - etc... Savvy? ;-) That way we can submit figs you are most likely able to make too.
