Review: 7985 Temple of Atlantis
Mr Spielbrick replied to Etzel's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Sorry to bump this topic, and I hope this is the right place... Could someone please tell me if the green fish (barracuda?) minifigure with the huge jaw has back printing? -
Mystery bags... Hm... Increase profits, they do. Yes... Don't really see the fun of it myself, but oh well. If that's the way to score all those figs, here I go. 'Cause I'm not aware of any Bricklink-like site dedicated to Character Building. (Well, there's eBay, I suppose.) @Peppermint_M I'm uptight the other way 'round. I buy clone brands if necessary, but never customs.

Heh... Been hoping for official LEGO Doctor Who since I found out about the show in 2007. (Yeah yeah, late to the party, but I'm not from Britain!) And now there's this. Which means, in my opinion: - The figs don't mix well with LEGO minifigures (downside), but are compatible with LEGO bricks (upside). - Probably not available directly in my country. BUGGER! Thank heavens for internet shopping, though. - The actual brick-built parts of the sets look mostly uninteresting to me, for lack of detail. Especially the interior of the TARDIS doesn't whirr my sonic screwdriver. However, the exterior blue box looks iconic and beautiful and exactly right for the microfigs. Must have. - Battle packs! Cybermen! Daleks! Don't personally care for a whole army of Weeping Angels, but they look good too. - In reaction to an earlier posting member: there seems to be a civilian in the Cybermen conversion room set. - We get: all Doctors from 1963 to now (!!!), Amy, Rory and River Song. Niiice. Already mentioned the Cybermen, Daleks and Weeping Angels. Plus there'll be Smilers and Silurians. So, lots of figures with which to make various stories. All in all, it looks good to me. If they become availble through online shops, I'll definitely be buying the blue box TARDIS, the eleven Doctors (swoooon!) and a bunch of Cybermen and Daleks. I guess there'll be more waves to come, so here's hoping for more future and past stuff. Ood? Former companions? Please? As for the original question that started this thread, HELL YES, buy as much as you need. Because we NEED it. (Cue discussion about capitalism and creating consumer desire.) We love the Doctor too much to let brand wars get in our way. God knows I bought MegaBloks Pirates of the Caribbean when I thought LEGO would never get to make their version. Didn't feel bad about that for even a fraction of a moment. Still glad I have those, as they're little works of art in their own right.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Mr Spielbrick replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Noooo, I don't see any pics! "Aucune image disponible". Were they taken down that quick? Has anyone got backups saved? If so, please feel free to PM me. -
Having only seen the trailer and being mostly interested in separate parts (to make my own figs): pleasepleaseplease let there be a set with the red ninja's hair in it. That'd be awesome. Makes the ninja more human too, to get to see them without their masks on all the time. Helps with variation, helps with wanting to collect all versions of the ninja... I have to say, recent and future sets of various themes are quite good for parts-collectors like myself. In Ninjago, we get all these lovely Oriental bits and pieces (the patterned glass from the dojo! the straw hat!) and totally unexpected coolness (black army helmet! better skeleton arms! golden lightsabre-hilt-variation!). Very nice.

Thanks again for all the kind words and good advice. A new entry, yet again a new look for David Tennant's Doctor: A happier Doctor by Mr Spielbrick, on Flickr What do you think? (Here's hoping for a brown-suited Remus Lupin in the summer Harry Potter sets!) -
TLG looking for good storytellers!
Mr Spielbrick replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Same here. Which could mean two things - either none of the respondents are involved in the process any longer, or the mail we've received is TLG's very kind way of turning us down. Either way, it's been really interesting. Thanks CopMike, for letting us know about this in the first place! -
New Lego Exclusive 10217 Harry Potter Diagon Alley
Mr Spielbrick replied to GRogall's topic in LEGO Licensed
Cool! Thanks for the info. Looks like a great set, but the price tag is a little high for me. Especially since 2011 looks to be a very good year for Lego sets. -
New Lego Exclusive 10217 Harry Potter Diagon Alley

Ooh! Anyone feel like doing a review? Pretty please? And also - do Fred and George have a doublesided head or something? They're listed as one character on Bricklink. Makes me go "Huh? What?" -

Thanks for more info, clouette! Judging by those set numbers... The 80s are First Three Films sets and the 90s are Fourth Film sets? If that's the case, the chances of a skeletal crew for the Pearl seem substantial. The London Escape is more expensive (bigger) than I thought. But then, I might've been sleepy lately, not quite taking in all news that has come forward. Here's to waiting for some proper pics of finalised sets. Take what you can - give nothing back! -
TLG looking for good storytellers!
Mr Spielbrick replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Oh, they'll be in touch, I'm sure. The communication so far has been absolutely wonderful, so they'll probably tell us something as soon as they know their next step. I'd forgotten to send the release form at first and I got an almost instant reply reminding me. After that, it's the same, haven't heard anything. They're probably either on holiday or collecting and reviewing the submitted stories. No worries, we'll have word soon enough, I trust. Whatever happens from now on, the experience has been lovely. Cool of TLG (TLC?) to open up to the fans this way. Just being part of this project in some small way has been very interesting. And of course, good luck to all of us! Here's hoping one of us EuroBricks members can be proud to have had proper input on a real future theme. -
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Official trailer
Mr Spielbrick replied to Andre1983nl's topic in LEGO Pirates
AAAAAARRRRRR! I was a fourteen years old lad when the first one came out. Its soundtrack was the first soundtrack I ever bought. Money well spent, that. Saw the film for the first time on a pirated DVD, appropriately enough. Then quickly saw it very legally on the big screen. Again, money well spent, that. Should've gone a second time, really. Which is what we did when Dead Man's Chest came out. That surprise at the end made us go back and watch it again a few weeks later. More money well spent. Then came At World's End, which had plenty of fun scenes and moments -and the best soundtrack of the three, I think- but the film kind of... disappointed. Everyone (apart maybe from Barbossa and his original crew) ends up being off worse than at the end of the first film or even the beginning of the first film. Which is not how I like my entertainment to end. And now, another chance for captain Jack Sparrow to blow us out of the water. The trailer sure looks cool! Johnny Depp is back, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Terry Rossio, Ted Elliott, Jerry Bruckheimer, Hans Zimmer... Good, good, good! And since they're treating this as a standalone adventure, it seems unlikely it'll have a sad or even ambiguous ending. Oh, and - this time there are LEGO sets. LEGO sets! My fourteen year old self would have committed mutiny to have Pirates of the Caribbean LEGO. Though in the end it's a good thing that it's coming around in the time of fleshies. (Sorry, not a huge fan of yellow. I know, I know, heretic.) Now... Bring me that horizon! *hums while sailing off into the sunset* -

Penelope's sister was her stand-in I think I read. Please don't ask me where or when, though... Good to see it's confirmed. And eight sets, too! Wow. Excellent! The list of things I'm hoping for is far too long, but it'll be cool to see at least some of those actually come true. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me! Bring on 2011. -
TLG looking for good storytellers!
Mr Spielbrick replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
About signing contracts... I imagine it's similar to what screenwriter Terry Rossio talks about on his website www.wordplayer.com . When they get sent ideas, the sender knows that Rossio (and his writing partner Ted Elliott) could have had access to their script, and therefor, everything that's in it. From the main concept, to dialogue, to characters. Now, the thing about ideas is that they're never 100% unique. There will always be some guy in Britain or Japan or Argentina or wherever whose idea is similar to yours. The people sending in ideas to professionals or institutions like The LEGO Company, can get fickle. When an element of a new film or toy reminds them of something they once sent in, they might just sue for breach of copyright. Being professionals, Rssio or TLC won't actually have stolen the idea. They just happened to hit upon a similar idea. But the annoying complainer who willingly sent their own stuff in, which often doesn't get looked at for precisely this reason, can still try. TLC wants to avoid this, I think. And that's very smart of them. You can't expect to be in on this project, yet not be held responsible for that. -
LEGO Doctor Who minifigs by Mr Spielbrick
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Blimey, I'm a sir now? Please, I just turned 22! Haha. Anywobbles... The three latest Doctors with their companions. Well. Not exactly Ten's proper companion. But I already put Rose next to Nine, and Martha and Donna still have me thinking how to turn them into good minifigs. "Run for your life!" Changed Nine's torso and his face, so he has a bit more character. Rose is all new. "Spoilers!" Back to the smiling face for Ten. And my first go at a River Song minifig, holding the sonic screwdriver with red settings. "Who da man?!" New Amy. Not terribly pleased with the face, but I didn't want to give her the same one as Rose... As always, I'd love constructive comments! You've been a great help as to which combinations work and which don't, so keep telling me, please. Edit: I just noticed I'm celebrating having been here for exactly three years by uploading three Doctor Who pics. Ha! -
Yeah, my Dobby lost some of his eyesight when I tried to rub dirt off his nose, straight out of the plastic bag out of the box... Rather disappointing in terms of the apparent printing quality. One certainly pays enough to get a toy that will last years, not seconds. All the others figures and tiles have excellent printing, that must be said. The current Harry Potter line is brilliant, I think. I wish it could go on for a few more waves, but I'm very thankful for what we've got.

Oooh, so clever! The design of the building itself, the dialogue and then the use of that face! That is so cool. Really creepy. Very, very well thought out.

Lego Harry Potter Visual Dictionary
Mr Spielbrick replied to metalgearsolid's topic in LEGO Licensed
May 2011? Interesting choice to release a book and sticker set "after the fact", as it were. (Though it'll coincide nicely with the last film, I suppose.) Or is it not confirmed that the actual Lego Harry Potter line itself ends with Diagon Alley in January next year? Sounds interesting. Harry Potter seems to be a really big thing at the moment, so I'd expect there to be enough takers to validate making/releasing it. -
LEGO Doctor Who minifigs by Mr Spielbrick
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
At the request of Special K: more minifigs! (Also, if a mod is reading this - could we please avoid transferring this topic to the Minifig Customisation Workshop? I technically don't customise and the readers of this topic are used to it in this place.) The original Master The longest serving Master (coincidence he started alongside longest serving Doctor Tom Baker?) Second Doctor and Brigadier "I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool!" I know, I know. Bandwagon... What are your thoughts on these figs? Please comment. I always like hearing from you, because it helps me improve the figs. Coming up as soon as I get my hands on new parts: improved (hopefully!) Doctors 1, 5, 8, 9 and 10, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey Smith, Amy Pond, Lord President Rassilon and a Weeping Angel. -
Thank you so much for this review! The set looks even better than I gathered from the official pictures. Sooo many lovely details. Very good of you to take the time and trouble to show them to us. Two little questions: - Is the printing on Filch's head in brown? (Looks like he has brown eye-brows in your photo, right?) - Does Dumbledore wear glasses on both sides of his head? (It's either glasses or wrinkles on that lowest pic of him, I can't really make it out.)

A big thanks to SuperChris for the review. Sure, some of those pics aren't clear as day, but like he said: rather a review than no review. Definitely. An internet forum is a place where members should be allowed to post within certain limits. It is absolutely right that limits concern bad language and generally inappropriate content. But surely they're not meant to stand in the way of well-meaning, respectable members doing something for the community? Amateurism (which is not the case here, but which I bring up in combination with blurry photos) has no place on tv or radio or in news papers. But please, let's keep this one "democratic" medium available for as many non-aggressive, non-violent, non-insane people as possible. Please. SuperChris' review of the small Buzz set was really good. It's clear the pics in this review only turned out the way they did, because he's experiencing camera trouble. I'm sure that bugs the man himself most. He still took the effort and time to do this for us. He's got the set, he could've enjoyed it quietly in his own room. But SuperChris chose to share it with all of us. I personally think that's commendable and I thank him for it.

Star Wars figures slightly modified
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks for the kind words and useful suggestions, everyone! KielDaMan: Ahhh, the Boba stuff is very subtle. Changed the colour of his arms, legs and hips. I found the actual Boba Fett less colourful than Lego's latest rendition. I consider it a good thing you didn't notice the change - apparently it feels natural, then. Sam Vimes: There are one or two minor changes I'd like to inflict upon the official stormtrooper... Will be doing that when I get the parts. CallMePie: Good idea. I'll look into it. A version of that, but with these brown legs, I can do already. The blue legs would have to be ordered, but I was gonna do that sooner or later anyway. It's the iconic Han, isn't it, with blue legs? So yes, will do! -
Recent minifigures look sooo much better than they used to. Who's the wizard they put in charge of minifig design? He or she has my eternal respect and gratitude. That said, here are some of my own variations on official Star Wars minifigs. Trying to add little bits to make them even more like their real movie counterparts. Boba Fett 'Spielbricked' Luke 'Spielbricked' Princess Leia 'Spielbricked' Han and Chewie 'Spielbricked' (The Princess Leia photo didn't turn out so well. Considering these are un-touched-up, I'm fairly satisfied with the rest. Still learning to do it properly, though!)

Robin Hood minifigures MOC
Mr Spielbrick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
True, captain Becker. I wanted to show his 'costume' in these photos. If he'd held a bow (correctly), it'd be obscuring his torso from view. At least the minifig is wearing a quiver in all pictures and grasping a bow-and-arrow in the second. But it's a good idea to do another pic with the bow!
