42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245
sama replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello friends, it has been a loooooong time since I have been on. All I can say is I am amazed by this model. It integrates Lego 8258 Crane Truck and Lego 8110 Unimog very well. I am used to seeing Lego Technic mostly make 2 discrete models: a model that favours realism in the drivetrain, so like complex suspension and stuff and gearboxes with large fake engines or motors (for example 8297, 9398, 8466), or smaller scale models that favours good looks and immense functionality like cranes or liftarms or other industrial features/machines (for example 8258, 8285 [to an extent], 8043, 8421, 42009). Lego 8110 is kinda mixed for me. It is a large scale model that favours functionality of drivetrain over its "industrial" functions, which is why the complex suspension ended up with the Unimog having poor steering, having very primitive stabilizers and a simple pneumatic crane (not to mention the gearbox involving alot of universal joints as shortcuts instead of using gears). But this new Mercedes-Benz Arocs is a perfect mixture of the two types of Technic models to be available. It is a small scaled model (like 8258 sized) that has nice function, like the motorized stabilizers, the crane with the extending arm, the tipping bed, and the closing bucket on the end of the liftarm. But it also has a complex drivetrain, meaning full independent suspension (I think. I do see 8 springs on the truck, 2 for each axle), and a drivetrain that leads to a fake engine. It also looks aesthetically nice for a small scaled model, and a very complex gearbox (for the function, not drivetrain). I see some new parts have been released in the time I have been away, like these new pneumatic cylinders, and this new turntable. Also other small parts that I have never seen before. The use of the l-motor also seems to be taking over the job of the m-motor in most cases. But i have some concerns for this new model too. 1) Am I the only one who notices that the whole structural integrity of this truck is a bit jiggly? Like the way the whole cabin shakes when the guy simply moves some switches on the gearbox? 2) Why would the Lego Technic team use 4 hard, yellow springs for the the front 4 wheels, and use 4 grey, soft springs for the rear doubled wheels? It seems that there is more weight in the back, and soft springs would make the rear too sensitive to any applied weight. 3) Do the wheels seem just a bit too undersized? I think the ever-so-slightly bigger wheels of Lego 5571 would be a better fit? What do you think? 4) What is everyone talking about this new valve that they want? Did Lego promise a new valve? Is this going to be a PF valve? -
Lego Technic 2013 sets & info

B-Model "What can you tell us about the B-model? It's a container stacker, plus a container and a truck. The truck has four-wheel steering, and the container stacker has an extendable boom that can lift the container. When the grab arm is lowered onto the container and locked, it automatically centers the container into place, and you can lock the container onto the stacker arm. Not all the elements in the box are used in the B-model, but you actually get three models and that adds really great play value." -
I like this, its blue (like a good blue for once)!

Best B-Models of Technic Sets?
sama replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think 42009 will have a b-model that will blow our minds. And yes, 8053 has an excellent b-model, plus you get a bunch of good pieces. -
Lego Technic 2h 2013

About the new crane, the pieces inside the wheel hubs also turned from grey-blue to light-grey-blue. I like the darker ones personally (but it may slightly remind me of 8295 Telehandler). Over all, I like the looks of this crane (complete with panels). Compared to 8053, 8053 is a very fun and good little crane and this would go along with that real nice (for whoever said 8053 sucks).- 902 replies

Its really close. The BOSS caught up to the Enforcer pretty quickly. I think the BOSS might just win (I hope so)!

Lego Technic 2h 2013
sama replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking at my zoomed photos of 42009, it looks like the gearbox is laid out as if in a sports car. One lever slides back and forth to switch between two axles resulting in 4 functions. Also, if the gearbox is located in the turret, as in 8053, then wouldn't there have to be an axle going through the turntable to extend the stabilizers (if the stabilizers are motorized)? This set seems to be technically advanced if what I think is true. Additionally, I hope they use a 36 tooth bevel gear to steer.- 902 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013
sama replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So the super crane seems to have a battery box, motor (seems m but could change to xl) and a switch. I don't know but it looks as if the axles are sloping up and down as if they have suspension (as if truck is going over a bump).- 902 replies

I don't know if there is already a thread for this stuff but we can put in all our info about the second half of the 2013 Technic sets. here is a picture to get you guys started. http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/2125/img0346rp.jpg There is going to be a mega mobile crane (5 axles!), and 9397 scaled pneumatic tow truck, and some small sets that I do not know about.

Knob gears are used if you are inputting a large amount of force and you need to exert a lot of force (transmission for slow crawlers) because they don't break or slip but the 12t bevel gears are used for smaller application (quick cars or lifting light loads). However, there is a lot more friction in the knob gears than the 12t bevel gears.

Oh no! Not megabloks! Oh how I hate... um never mind. I like this car. How fast does it go (like on a lever floor) ? -

Need Help with New Project
sama replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just need to know how you could make a steerable front hub connected to double wishbone suspension with the portal axle hubs with the pieces provided. I can't seem to figure it out. -
Hi guys! I am brand new to mocs and I want to start my first one. I am going to use one 8053 mobile crane set, one 8110 Unimog set, and one 8043 Motorized excavator set. I want to base the design off the following picture: I have the large Unimog wheels and all the necessary parts (gears, suspension, m motors, receivers beams, etc.). I just want to ask, are two m motors good enough to power (its going to be 4wd) something similiar to this size (length 32cm by width 26.5cm by height 20cm)? I am going to use another m motor to switch the dual speed gearbox. the gear ratios are probably going to be 1.4:1 and 11.6:1 (fast and slow). Additionally I will use another m motor to steer the truck. Is there any way I can get the portal axle hubs to create a double wishbone suspension using beams and stuff? Also, I just need to know if the m motors are enough to power this thing (it won't be too big but it will have a PF 9v battery box on it)? Will three m motors be enough to drive this thing over large obstacles (on first gear)? Please help.

9397 problem
sama replied to Freekysch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yah, this problem happens because of the long wheelbase and the weight of the battery box. It is not a big deal but for displays, I would sub the heavy battery box in with an empty battery box to keep the asthetics. -

the hover craft sounds cool. but I bet it will be like those creator boats with the little wheels under neath to let it glide smoothly, resembling hovering. Still interested in how they are going to make one.
