What, you should have had pics by now!!! -
9397 Technic Logging Truck

Wow, 60 geared wheels (including knobs and worms). That's a lot for a set this big. Oh, and Alasdair Ryan, does 9397 have a little engine fan? Because the inventory shows this piece. Plus, do you have any dimension for this set? -

Just saying, some guys make HUGE things. Efferman, I order you to make HUGER things!! Ya, those are all power puller wheels. Here is a link to Steen's BS. -
9397 Technic Logging Truck
sama replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't get it, why are there black bevel gears in some sets (8070, 9395) and tan bevel gears in other sets (8110, 8071)? The logging truck uses black bevel gears (I personally like tan bevel gears). -

Wow, technic parts have really evolved! The image on the right comes from here. -
Regarding 8466, is the suspension (mainly front) really that weak? Would the springs from 8110 benefit 8466?
-
Just a question, would technic half pins work for improving the steering of 8110 with out touching the chassis?

Your modified tow truck is just beautiful. You see that Lego, that's how you should make a tow truck! -
Prorotype parts
sama replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I seriously don't think those 3 by 11 panels came out of a 3d printer, those look like full fledged pieces to me. Maybe Lego will soon release them in sets (please be 9398)? -
From the same seller, I found another amazing deal. After seeing your answers, I was leaning towards 8466 but for the same price, CAD$250 (pretty cheap if you think about it), I could buy 8435 Silver Champion. Now which one is better to buy now, 8466, or 8458? EDIT: The cheapest, new 8458 on bricklink is CAD$359.

8110 Steering Geometry Explained?
sama replied to theozboy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know, aesthetics? -
Similar to how you extend the arm of the b model of 8081, except the first lift arm is pushed using a pneumatic cylinder. Just imagine the last picture upside down and compare the extending arm of the prototype to the arm of the picture below (sorry, I can't really explain it that well).

I didn't want to make a new topic for this so I am posting it here. I found these amazing pictures of 8110 owned by mbmc137. These are better pics of the prototypes of 8110. Very nice and mini. Cool thing is the 3 by 11 panels, yellow on the sides of the rear. It has a pneumatic crane (looks nice) pumped by hand, there is a manual winch, and outriggers. HOG steering. Even better, and larger. Again its yellow. It has grey rims 'covered' by black pulley wheels. The set looks like a larger version of the first one but motorized. It seems to have the battery box in the rear tray and a polarity switch is included. There are two driving ring switches on the left side underneath the polarity switch. Crane is motorized and uses 2 linear actuators, extending the crane is manual, the outriggers seems to be motorized, motorized winch, and the fourth function is a motorized superstructure rotation. HOG steering. Personally, the crane looks ugly. Looks beautiful, very similar to the current 8110. It has black rims with little black cover (doesn't really cover). The orange color is finally being considered and the red crane is on the rear. The battery box is probably on the other side and the ppto selector on the left. What I don't get is I can only see one selector for the functions, maybe another is somewhere where it is not visible in the picture. Anyways, it has motorized pneumatics (old pump is visible behind the front, left wheel), motorized winch, and most likely motorized rotation for the crane. The whole chassis and crane looks similar to the current 8110 design. What is really cool is there is a bucket attachment on the end of the crane. Whats funny is davidmull just asked a question about a clam attachment. It uses a mini pneumatic cylinder. Another mystery is the outriggers/stabilizers, there seems to be knobs attached to them. Could there be a function switch back there that enable the outriggers to be extended using the motor? Well, this set uses the traditional HOG steering. Seeing the old front view pictures of the prototypes tells us this model had suspension and portal axles. Oh, the new wheels are also included in this model. Personally, this model remind about the Unimog made by efferman. This model seems to be more complex than the current 8110 model. I need help from one of you pros out there because there are 4 levers by the left side, two yellow and two red. There may also be an additional blue lever (maybe). Looking at the picture below, the new torque tube parts are used in this model. The battery box must be on the other side (if this set even contains PF). The cabin looks 'complete,' just look at the three orange panels used to make the roof. The old offroad wheels are used in this model and suspension is also included. There is a pto and a ppto (pneumatic t-piece) visible on the front and the crane looks complex. There is 4 pneumatic cylinders used in this set, one for lifting the boom, one for lifting the jib, one for extending (look at the picture below), and one for opening and closing the claw. Yes! This model also uses a clamshell excavator bucket as the attachment at the end of the extending jib. Again, there seems to be knobs connected to the outriggers, maybe they are once again motorized. For steering, this set uses its flashing lights as the steering wheel. Here is the image used for some of the info above. I need help from the pros for info about the levers and functions for the last prototype (the one that looks like efferman's) and sorry for the large pics.

I have been on a hunt for cool, old technic sets and I came across a new 8466 for CAN$250. This is a huge deal because on bricklink, the cheapest new 8466 is CAN$260, plus shipping and handling. I was intending to buy 8110 by March but this set looks so amazing and intimidating. Both sets have huge, unique tires, both sets are 4wd vehicles, 8110 has a m motor and cool functions (pto & ppto), 8466 has a gearbox and cool functions (wing doors & v8 engine), it is just so hard to pick. Oh, and about availability, I highly doubt somebody is going to buy the 8466 because there aren't many high-paying lego technic enthusiasts here in Toronto (I think). Which one is better (does anybody have picks of both of them together?)?

1h 2012 models
sama replied to JunkstyleGio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Doesn't the front of the b model of 9397 look mildly similar to the front of 8041? Anyways, you can see the mini linear actuator at the bottom of the snow blade housing. -

I was right! I knew the b-model was going to be a snow plow!! I posted earlier here on EB (all the way at the bottom). -

DesignbyMe 8285
sama replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Does anybody have pictures of technic models they created on DbM? -
I felt like building 8285 on DesignbyMe and then ordering it. But I just wondered if all the Technic pieces are available on the program so I can build the model (and yes, I know some pieces have changed, such as the panels and some colors). Does anybody know if I could build 8285 on DesignbyMe?
