  1. Nice I have yet to tackle a steam train. Like this livery, so great. I would put some details around the locomotive maybe, to break the form a bit. I would also make the coaches longer I think. They appear short compared to the train. So maybe make 2 long ones vs 4 shorter ones?
  2. Nice one. Looks very much a like local Dutch trains. I like how you did the nose. I would have done a complete green brick between the lights though and not half like now. Great to see that rear end also lit. Is that via the hub? Or a separate power source?
  3. Haha that's a fun conversion and nice for the tree. Time for some gingerbread wagons now.
  4. Thanks appreciated. I'm happy how this one ended up.
  5. You can also check out this movie. Dutch guy rebuilds 80s layout. https://youtu.be/V1OIXwXhm-4?si=srJfD-DPclaJGkt1
  6. Nice one! I am not a trains guys, but this is a siemens taurus right? Just so that I know I compare it to the right type. I like the style with the red, grey, black stripes done with plates. But also that front end design with the angle. Seeing the benefit for your boogies when using the 7wide.
  7. The parts are maybe basic @JopieK but indeed the concept is great. I love that 7777 book just for viewing and thinking could i do something like that? I envy that hobby trains set. Its just a Christmas box full of nice stuff and you can build and change. It would be day 1 buy for me if sets like that come out. I know I can also bricklink all those parts and it has seriously enough crossed my mind that I got a part list loaded in BL. But I also feel torn from times, shall I build my layout more realistic, or keep an approach like Lego always did and use real world inspiration to build my own version. I agree that police train it is lost on me. I can see it from a 8 yrs old perspective that this can work. But why not put a generic locomotive back on sale (with motor) and sell carriages as loose item. I remember my brother and I used to build the train that we boarded with the car in Switzerland each vacation. No motor, just hand powered train. We had a great time just reusing bricks. My daughter she likes to build, but she builds and is done. There is no rebuild. It feels more static than how I remember my own youth.
  8. @Ashi Valkoinen thanks for the elaborate reply. I did not know about these parts. Buwizz sounds interesting 🤔 expensive but rechargeable.
  9. Wow that nose is a great piece of work also with that hose so shaped. Really stuff to stripe for one day. What do you mean with a light tansmitting cable? You mention two pu motors on buwizz and all those PF lights. Ive seen those buwizz blocks, so they can power a lot but how do you manage two engines? I figured that only worked with pf and that inverted switch.
  10. Oh wow that looks cool. Great looking train overall and also great to see it next to the real thing.
  11. Your latest design is logically by its width a much nicer cockpit, but I must your six wide is already great. Like put it in a box and sell it as a lego train. I like the the white blue grey livery best.
  12. Nice to see how you managed this in 6 wide. Love that lamettering but also the boiler in sloped 1x2?
  13. I think it's nice to re engineer what a lego designer did. Also great to modify a set to make it more your own. I do think it's smart how they used the hub body as side wall. It gives that look I am used to of an American locomotive in a 6 wide body.
  14. Thanks. I stumbled upon the red parts on a lego expo. So bit lucky there. Yeah I'm happy with those coach boogies too. I wondered if such an extension would work on the bends but it works out great. Thanks @zephyr1934
  15. Thanks @-DoNe- indeed the dark red / tan scheme is great, it has been plaguing my dreams for weeks. I also saw many alternative brick suppliers using that colour scheme and yes it is true to Rheingold. But I decided to stay true to the original Lego scheme. - Updated locomotive - It has taken me weeks to collect just a couple of parts haha, love some BL stores shipping schedule. But I managed to build up a BR103 version in Lego 7740 livery, with some adjustments. I kept it on 4 axles, sorry for all purists. But making the locomotive longer would pull it all out of scale and I have not yet found an affordable L motor. My build is largely inspired by an image on Holger Matthes his website, he was again inspired by Fouke Boss I understood. Beside that I used some online images of the BR103 and make some interpretations of my own. I put a simple switch in parts of the pantograph roof section to trigger the hub. Makes it easier for my daughter to start the train. Its is a squeeze due to the recessed doors, but I managed to get a driver in, I kinda like that little detail. The front lights are powered. Still need to make a movie of it, but you can see some stuff on my IG already.
  16. Ok thank for explaining it to me. I always figured the train motor was the powerful one. Though I only have experience with a PU M motor as another drive option in a build I did based on a MOC of another person. There I found the M weak and though small not really adequate. So I would have to find a L or XL motor.
  17. I have no knowledge on steam trains, but I love how this looks. Great colours, nice to see something not green and that grey trim works nicely. That section view is lovely, for me an insight in how you guys do steamers. I do wonder why not for instance use a regular train motor on the rear two wheels? If you power that would the 3 axles large wheels not simply follow? Apologies if it is a stupid idea, but I only own train motors so it was a thing that has crossed my mind.
  18. I would indeed also consider 1x1 round tiles and those curved tiles to make a cobble stone street.
  19. Looks nice. Love the old skool touches with the angled brick and the gauges on it. Reminds me of the old stuff from my youth. Do not know if the roof is red originally but it works great, makes it pop. Like the wagons too. I use skates from the city figures as door handles. I like those because they protrude a little bit and give some additional depth at the doors. But not sure i you wish to use more modern parts of keep it to more classic parts.
  20. This look amazing and huge. Really love how you covered him completely and make him look so organic. No frame to be seen to me at least. Also nice to see some bird hidden left and right.
  21. Thanks @Feuer Zug
  22. @JopieK I can see them and it's still lego, just trimmed 🤣. @LEGO Train 12 Volts Thanks. Yeah longer is also still on my mind, going towards to 40 studs for instance by adding a window. Allowing for more interior. But I'm a bit wary about my curves and fitting in the sightings. Yeah 4 steps each side is maybe a but much haha but when you're on a roll 🤣. Will take it along for a future revision.
  23. Thanks @Shiva Wow @Gunners TekZone not sure if I dare trimming the motor base, but the idea is good indeed. I cut down baseplates to suit my table so maybe this could go.
  24. Thanks @idlemarvel I get the idea. Thanks @JopieK, also for the featured. The 7750 or a steamer in general is on my future wishlist. But before I try getting all those wheels correct I decided to build some Electric or diesel locomotives first. But the 7750 is pretty cool, give it a go.
  25. Thank you both for your input this is helping me out. @idlemarvel i am completely interested in seeing the train motor on its side. I've never considered that. So yeah if you could share please do. @Selander I do feel you are right. I will start with this. I bought instructions for a 7wide loc with M motor and I see the issues with getting the drive train proper. I'll enjoy the build for a 6wide locomotive first and get it running and then I can tackle more challenges later on. Let me get a good body first. Indeed I do not want a too big locomotive or else the proportion will be off.
