It's so slow because I want it to look realistic when moving. That's why I'm using the 8879 speed control which allows seven levels of speed. I've even reduced the voltage, there are only 4 batteries instead of 6 in the box. So it could move a lot quicker - but never as quick as a usual lightweight monorail train with a 9V battery. Many thanks Joe! No dumb question, the train is using the usual monorail chassis, motor included. Luckily, there is that nice adapter cable (http://www.bricklink...em.asp?S=8886-1) that allows to run the motor with PowerFunctions, too.

Thanks a lot Lego Guy Bri! There's a video, see below. Many thanks zephyr1934! A short video. Sorry for the poor quality, but at least you can see how the train moves, especially its slowness.

Hi all, being a car builder mainly I am working on some background for the cars, and when I was offered a monorail I thought this might fit with what I am actually planning. In my view the monorail can be integrated very well in smaller city layouts, but I wanted to have something that moves more realistically than the usual monorail trains with their high speed and abrupt stops. So I opted for a MR with PowerFunctions that can move very slowly. And since most of the cars are 7 studs wide to be able to fit the figs side by side, the train has the same width. Functions: - working headlights and backlights (PF) - interior lighting (9V) - openable front door (manually) - detachable roofs The train is quite heavy (around 0,6 kilogrammes) but that doesn't seem to be a problem, neither for the engine nor the tracks - until now, that is. I am watching these aspects thoroughly. The train is controlled by an 8879 Speed Remote Control. Capacity: 10 minifigures. My main inspiration was the amazing 6w Monorail Berlin Subway Train by Brucewaynelego-Toyshansolo, see http://www.flickr.co...ego/5110796438/ There are some similarities between my train and the Berlin Subway Trains of the Twenties. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome as usual. More pics: Interior: Street Scene with Monorail:

Great layout LT! I especially love the small Art Deco style buildings, and the servo fits in very well, too. Must have been a lot of fun to have this on display. Keep it up!

Now this was really a tough showdown, thrilling until the last minute! Congrats to the winner and to the third winner, and to all contributors, too - I think there was a high level in the contest, and we have seen many inspiring designs. Many thanks to all voters, to the Eurobricks staff who made this possible, and last not least to LegoCityMann for initiating this great contest and providing the prizes. It was all very well organized. Finally, if you're interested in the subject, take a look at the new Flickr Lego Gas Stations Group - you'll find some of the entries and some other nice servos there. It's still rather small, but it surely will grow. Thanks a lot all, looking forward to the next showdown!

Well, I can't take credit for the tires, since this is definitely not my design, and I think I prefer the front wheel arches of the second version, but you've done a great job here, the whole thing looks much better than the original car.

By combining tires or stretching them you can have nearly each diameter you need. You're right. It's a tad smaller than the wheel I've proposed since the whitewall is stretched a little. I'm not too fond of those kind of rims, but maybe it's easier to obtain. Anyhow there are lots of possibilities: You may even combine http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=50945 and http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30028 (which is not so easy), but you get a nice wheel like this:

Car is looking very good now, but, as others have already said, it's too tall. Wheels are too big, the original wheels are too small. So why not build some wheels of your own? You could e.g. take these white-wall tires: They are considerably smaller than the ones you have used, and whitewalls surely would look cool on a car like this. You'll need those rather rare old small white tires for them, but as long as you don't have any you may take the black ones instead. Second suggestion would be to try to omit that tile on the hood which makes it too tall, and to lower the windscreen for at least one level, too. Maybe the backend must be lowered after that, too, but that seems possible. Sorry for all this stuff, but, as you might know, I'm quite interested in the subject ...

Much better than Brickshelf, because now it can be invited to the Gas Stations Group on Flickr Maybe it has an influence on how many points you actually give to one MOC ...

There are already some MODs of the car over on Flickr (in Sweden there even seems to be a contest concerning this subject), but it's the first I see here. You did a nice job by adding height at the sides which is very important. Your fenders are much better than the original ones, doors are very well made, too. What I'd try to do would be to set the front axle one stud forward, even if the wheel arches must be omitted then, and to enlarge the wheels, if possible. Anyhow it's way better than the original, keep up the great work!

You know I'm a huge fan of your Art Deco buildings, and this is no exception. There's nothing not to be liked - all those fancy shapes and colors, everything is very tasteful and well-balanced, same for the interior. I love the open-back building style, too. But my top favourite aspect is surely the sign, really a piece of art. Keep up the great work!

Nice entry, I love the pillars and the shape of the building. Good luck!
-
Great idea and great execution - now we know what all those tires were for ... I love the playability of the whole thing and the shop with all those nice things, of course. Good luck!
-
Nice entry with some fine details. The tire service is a great addition. Good luck!
-
Great idea and a very original build! Nice to see something completely different. Good luck!

Thanks a lot Henrik, glad to hear this from you! Btw. I have invited both of your amazing gas stations to the new Flickr group, see http://www.flickr.co...egogasstations/ Would be very glad if you added them there ...

Wow, great entry Zed_43! I love the overall design, but especially those very nice details you've put in here: the airtank with that nice upside-down technique, the fuel nozzles (great idea, in German a fuel nozzle is a "Zapfpistole", literally "draw pistol" ) and the motorbike, of course. The interior is very nice, too. Great job on this, good luck!

Many thanks snaillad! Thanks a lot Zed_43, looking forward to your entry! [Edit, 26 March 2013] Here are some more detail pics. Outside detail with down-pipe: And the illuminated fridge: Here you see a combination between Diner and Gas Station with some vehicles. Although stylistically different, they go quite well together, I guess. Thanks for looking! [/Edit]

Thanks Aussie BJ, a great addition to the group! The Flickr LEGO Gas Stations Group still needs some entries. So if you see a nice station and you think it should be there please tell the builder about the group or drop me a line. Great, looking forward to it!

Thanks a lot Wedge09! Many thanks eurotrash. Glad you like the vehicle, too, but, to be honest, it's not a new one, see http://www.eurobrick...4 The island area is taken from the small station that went with the diner and which is unnecessary now. Kind of MOC recycling, but I'm glad I don't have to build everything from scratch ... I was thinking about that, but my idea was to have those rather narrow red lines throughout the MOC which wouldn't be possible then. If there was only one colour I'd probably prefer your suggestion. Thanks again!

Thank you! Thanks LT. Wouldn't be too sure about that. Probably there will be some more great entries - not everybody is actually posting a WIP before. Thanks a lot for your kind words L@go! I'm sure there will be some more entries, though ... Thanks Kristel. Colour is an aspect, but probably the construction is even more important here. You're right concerning the counter area, that's what I wrote above. This will be changed for sure. Thanks a lot LGB, glad you like it! Many thanks Brick Pirate, glad you like the tire holder, too. Thanks a lot LT12V! Glad you like the SNOT work, it's my idea to get rid of plates wherever possible. Pillars were the first idea here. Thank you very much Aussie BJ! Will be a tough contest for sure ... Thanks a lot Roger, well, there is one more pic after all:

Hi all, this is my Servo Showdown entry, a Shell Art Deco Gas Station. It's part of the Garage Project, too, but since there will probably be some additions there's no "2.0 status" yet. Main thing here is the snotted roof, but since the main problems were solved more or less at the beginning, this was quite a fun build. Interior: Of course there could be some more details, probably there'll be some more wall decoration ... Details: Counter, radiator (probably already existing, but no direct reference), gas pump (already known), tire holder, register, telephone (same as radiator), shelf with oil cans and stuff, gas cans, illuminated fridge. There'll hopefully be some more pics, but for some reason my photoshop does strange things today ... Hope you like it, C&C welcome as usual!
