  1. Hmm...I think that the TLC pirate weapons are currently sufficient, although a bayonet piece that clips onto the musket barrel would be nice - imagine the silver knife piece with a clip on the side... Edit: Like this - SlyOwl
  2. Hey! Ice of you to drop by! X-D *Groan* SlyOwl
  3. Um...technically I didn't use the hull piece as I don't actually have it, but it can fit into the prow and I would have put it there if I had it - it would have made it much stronger... Please don't disqualify me *sweet* And I can't take any more pictures as I've already dismantled it... Since when have I been a Mister? I'm not in league with Mr Phes and Mr Tiber, y'know! I used to be a Cap'n, but now I'm just a King, eh Mr Phred? X-D SlyOwl
  4. *y* What does the inside of the box say? - My eyesight isn't good enough to read that |-/ Do you have the set and the instructions? - Perhaps you could review the whole thing? *sweet* SlyOwl
  5. I think this could be one of the greatest Lego sets ever - not for the minifigures or defence structure, but because of the uniqueness of the design - where else have TLC gone so far off the rails as to build this? It is totally unique - they've never done anything like it before, and because of this, I think it could become a legendary set, not for the parts e.t.c, but the design, SlyOwl
  6. I've published my entry, but a few words first: I second this - my first ship that I've published isn't as good as I'd have liked it to be - I felt the sail and rigging/ropes let it down a bit. Ah well. *sad* Kinda...alternative means doncha know! I think my entry is even more of a wildcard than Pietje's! I thought about the "Trade" theme for the IMTP ship, and, after watching one of Jamie Oliver's programmes about chicken farming, decided to have parrot smuggling - the cramped conditions e.t.c. After discovering I only have 6 parrots, a brown eagle and an owl, I decided this was not fiesable and moved onto animal smuggling. Then I ran out of animals and ideas. Then Piratical supply. Aha! Perfect. By this stage I'd built the basic boat with half a hull, but needed a reason for it to exist - it is too flimsy to be a fighter and too large to be an escape boat, so a trader instead. :-) Enjoy! SlyOwl
  7. So you want to be a pirate, eh matey? Ye've come te the right place! Each time a man escapes from jail, a cruel slave-master or a nagging wife and thinks of setting out to sea, El Bacalao gives him a call. Since 1645, this ship has prowled the Windward passage, selling its Piratical wares to new recruits to the brethren. A Pirate has lost his sword? No problem, El Bacalao comes sailing into Tortuga and for a shiny 20 coin, it can be his. What's this? An Imperial is deserting in Port Royal? Harr harr! A Bicorn hat 'll do ye fine - we'll make a cap'n out o' ye yet, laddy buck! Narr, it can't be! Captain Roger has lost his Parrot in Kingston! A king's ransom in gold it'll cost ye there! Lucky fer you, El Bacalao is just around the corner, laden with piratical merchandise. Although normally confined to the Caribbean, this ship has been seen to stalk ships sailing out of eBay, in order to make scurvy dogs out of the underarmed and underclothed sailors that man the dusty ol' ships! I give you El Bacalao, Piratical suppliers since 1645! A fine ship 'tis - a single sail enough to outrun the Imperials scum! The lookout, a deserter from the East India company, keeps his eye on the horizon for potential customers, whilst the cap'n models the latest fashion to the world. A tiller is enough to steer this fine ship, with ropes securing the bottom corners of the sail, allowing it to rapidly unfurl to flee angry customers. Oh aye, we sell it all to any takers, even those Islanders - a fair few monkey's they've had from us. We don't quite know why they keep running out... Such disrespect to our produce! Lookee there! Maps, telescopes, hooks, peglegs, hats, compasses, rum - and ye wonder where they get it all? Pests are not tolerated on board this ship - pet rats belong strictly to the castle and HP folk! A fine figurehead, almost lifelike... And our hull. Ye can see more of how our fine shipwright built it here I hope ye enjoy this fine ship! SlyOwl
  8. *wacko* The world's gone crazy! So desu ka? Nan nen o hanatte imasu ka? Nihongo kupu o shirimasu ka? I hope that's right - I'm not too good on the verbs...I've only done it for 3 years now :-/ OK: there's an E on the end of DESU. KORE is here. Can you do hiragana yet? My friend has been doing it for 3 years and still can't even read it well |-/ I, however, was a fluent reader and writer after the first year. Kanji proves a different matter... |-/ Nihongo ON! SlyOwl
  9. I first joined here for the contests, my first post being in the Pirate Halloween contest thread. Also, I was looking for a site where you could have slightly more free reign over posts and what you discuss - Brickset was OK, until the threads all got closed, but you couldn't say much, display pictures or do anything really. Lugnet? Nope, you have to pay, horrid posting system (IMHO), AFOL required, rather exclusive, IMHO. Brickshelf offered nothing, so I began to browse around for a contest and forums. Classic Castle is OK, but I can't use my Hotmail address there and it is exclusively castle, which doesn't quite suit me. So I ended up here, and here I'll stay. The Pirate forum is one of the main attractions - nowhere else do the brethren gather in such numbers! Lord Sylp - I *wub* your avatar! X-D SlyOwl
  10. Um...they're actually quite strong - they can, of course, withstand the force required to bend a standard bar (even the legs - 2 are joined at the bottom)...they may look flimsy, but I'd doubt any AFOL will ever break one (*Gollum voice* "Mustn't ssscratch it, mustn't use it, musn't harm the preciousss...it's mine, my own; my preciousss"). As for KABOBs, perhaps the legs or neck may get bent a little, but they are very sturdy overall. They can definitely withstand rummaging in a box and many battles. SlyOwl
  11. Welcome! :-) But dude, SPYRIUS! Do you like Exploriens then? Be sure to visit us Pirates - we not all that different from Castle after all! But definitely much better. :-D SlyOwl

    Hi.

Welcome! I notice you have 2 Pirate sets - mayhaps ye'll pay us a visit on the Seven Seas! With those few sets you could make some really good vignettes, especially using the round base from the Hovertron... SlyOwl
  13. Aye, but what if the person who came second in the bidding still wants one? Nice job, although IMHO it's a little too black - I made one like it a while back and (a) the dust shows up soooo much, and (b) it is a little plain to look at - no colour! I was bidding on one just like it a year ago (BSB based too) and it went for $240, although there was an SES thrown in - ye can expect a good price! SlyOwl
  14. Hmm...seems to be quite a backlog of non-tagged members here... I won't ask for one, because I feel the need to earn one, like I earned my Gold Trophy. But you can give me one if you like. X-D Actually, please don't! I want uniqueness! If you give me a space tag, I'll...well, y'know... SlyOwl
  15. TPATPAM is copying my technique of using "The Person Below Me" (TPBM)! TPAM is plain awesome, although I'd prefer him if I had his sigfig... |-/ TPBM is a vassal.
  16. This is great! However, Minas Tirith being so large in the books and films, it is obviously nearly impossible (and pointless) to try and build the whole thing. He's abridged it well... I love the Osgiliath decals, and the signpost, although I feel the very minimalistic and poorly built White Tree lets it down. A more detailed beacon (is there even one?) would be nice too, and a comic scene with the flaming Denethor jumping off the peak would improve it, in my eyes. That said, it's fantastically built, too much to take in. SlyOwl
  17. OK, today I had a 12-hour day at school - leave the house at 7am, then 2 hours travelling (half of which is waiting around) and then 7 hours at school. That's normal, followed by an hour journey back (strange, I know, but there's less waiting around for trains and I can catch the bus more easily). However, Tuesdays and Wednesdays I have Japanese after school for an hour, so I normally get home at 6pm. Today the trains were all disrupted so I got home an hour late. One 830th of 2008 completely wasted. Then I did 2 hours of homework and now I'm writing this, having watched TV and ate supper for an hour, with a little Pirate battling, although my new SES is missing the rear mast base as I'm needing it for Captain Greenhair's IMTP contest. Nyah! |-/ 4 hours travelling, 9 hours working, 1 hour standing outside in the rain alone (lunchtime) - it's a rough life! I go to bed now, although I can hope to spend less than half my life at home |-/ You *******************! SlyOwl Goodnight!
  18. Admiral - do you want the cannons to actually fire? If so, you're in for a huge problem... And Fender Bender - if you were to mess around a bit more with Technic or a more complicated hinge system, you could have an automatic retraction system by connecting the tow gun-shuttles to the twisting part, so removing the need for manual replacement. You could have 2 seperately operating shuttles, for each side of the ship. A ship's wheel may be more reallistic, although I love the idea of twisting a barrel to operate cannons! *wub* A little like an old trap I used to make involving a twisting cactus... You could also, if you don't use the 1x2 plate with bar to secure the cannon flaps, have automatically opening flaps by connecting them to a longer bar running the length of the gun-shuttle that twists upwards when the barrel is turned. When I finally get round to building my first large ship, me thinks that a lower cannon deck is in order! SlyOwl
  19. See here for more on ranks e.t.c...but don't get them confused with titles, the caption under your photo, which you are given by admins for something or other, like winning a competition or something. You cannot become anything higher than a Grand Duke without admin intervention. As for inserting photos, see the tutorials here. Hope this helps SlyOwl
  20. Hmm...so are you actually into Lego ATM? Or are you just psting new threads because...well...I don't know... Are you returning to the forums, saying goodbay or just posting randomly? :-) SlyOwl

    Hi

What he said. What themes are you into? Do you have a Brickshelf or MOCpages? *y*
  22. Hey and welcome! What themes are you into? Don't worry, the 18-restrictions scared me for long enough too! Just a month though 8-| I believe TFOL is more correct than TAFOL...but I think it's rarely used, as it only really appears in the Community forums and the like - the others don't care about age too much, just the MOC quality! Have you got a Brickshelf? MOC pages? SlyOwl
  23. Me... Lego: -2007 marks my first real involvement in any online communities: at the beginning of the year, I thoroughly moderated my BS and removed all the bad models on there (most of them :-$ ). Then, my Animals folder won great acclaim (in my eyes back then) by having some of its occupants reviewed on Classic Castle after being found by one of the members in January-ish time. I continued with my animals (almost solely) for the next few months, before grabbing a BSB and Enchanted Island in June. Before August, I didn't do many serious MOCs; just a lot of Brikwars with my re-discovered pirates. At the beginning of August, I was residing at Brickset, using the ample forums there to discuss the Great BS Saga (what do you call it?). However, when they closed the forums down, I moved on - for a while I floated here and there, just browsing without accounts. Then, after summoning up the courage to ignore the over-18 warnings, I joined EB, mainly for the Pirate Halloween contest. My confidence had taken a boost in that my Legosaurus Brix had been reviewed both here and on Classic Castle, independantly. Winning both the Pirate Halloween contest and How Do You Kill A Skeleton? contest was great for me...and here I am...I also began using Bricklink more and so buying specifically for MOCs. I discovered new techniques in vignettes and...well, yeah, that's about it... :-) Non-Lego: -My mind's rather hazy about it now, but I had to make GCSE choices, do my SATs and I participated in the Nihongo Cup, a national Japanese speaking competition. I won third prize and an electronic dictionary in the Key Stage 3 category. First prize was a laptop |-/ Read more here! I'm third from the left in the front row. Gah, that's nearly it, although I've had a rocky-time with my once best-friend (I 've got none now :-( ) and been thoroughly invaded by small cousins in large quantities.. What was wrong with him? SlyOwl (Who's just released his first picture, and his name X-O )
  24. Happy birthday! I was going to do some sort of comic/animation thingy, but then I realised I don't have either of your sig-figs 8-| Ah well, enjoy your day! Bad luck, oo7, first day back at school (me thinks...)! :-| SlyOwl, whose bday is always in the holidays!
  25. I must say, recently chamberings have been on the up - before the Thok/Avrak business there were very few, but now look at it! Hmm... :-/ I think more competitions and smackdowns are necessary for a better community - friendly competitiveness encourage friendships, IMHO - it gives you a starting ground for conversations and such - grudges e.t.c. are good! *y* Make it more fun! *y* And hilarious! *y* SlyOwl
