What do you prefer?, Lego Batman or Lego DC superheroes
Oky replied to Jackattack7's topic in LEGO Licensed
Even though only less than two waves of DC Super Heroes sets are known so far, I can already say that I much prefer the Batman line. The sets were bigger and more detailed and had a more realistic color scheme. All the bright yellow and blue colors in the SH sets make them look very toyish. In fact, I felt a bit embarrassed buying the Two Face Chase set because it looked like a childs toy rather than an accurate model of the Batmobile (and don't get me started on Two Face's truck). The only exception is Arkham, but that's just because it got the D2C treatment, so it's not really fair to compare the two. The minifigs are also getting more cartoony, I think. Maybe I also liked the first Batman sets better because they seemed heavily influenced by Batman: The Animated Series. The new sets seem to be trying to mix styles from all over the Bat mythos and it's not really working in my opinion. Mr. Freeze doesn't even look like Mr. Freeze anymore without his red goggles/eyes which he is almost always portrayed with. However, that's not the only reason why I am disappointed with the SH sets. I am also disappointed because they have access to the entire line of DC superheroes and villains, but after two waves the only new DC characters they introduced are Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Commissioner Gordon, and Aquaman. They could have at least given us some Batman villains or aloes that haven't been done before instead of giving us three Robins and two Banes and Poison Ivys. Luckily, Batman is one of the few DC heroes I really like, so I don't care so much, but it's still annoying that after two or three waves (or even four, if the summer 2013 rumors are true) we only have about half of the JLA. By the way, this thread needs a poll. -
Yeah, it would be odd if it's for the sequel as they're using the picture and title of the first game... Maybe it's for downloading the PC version of the first game? Unlikely, but wouldn't surprise me, seeing as that game is on clearance currently. As Neville said, they probably just wanted to reveal the bigger sets.

In Canada. What Batboat Chase? You mean Aquaman On Ice? I don't think that was ever said to be revealed.

LEGO Batman The Movie DC Super Heroes United.

Odd, sounds exactly like the story for the recent videogame. I'm sure they'll do a good job at making it original though. -
Well, that sucks. Now I have to get over it. Have fun celebrating your anniversary, CN, while we wait for our new episodes. At least we still have Avengers to get our fix of superhero action. Speaking of which, I'm glad they finally brought the Hulk back. It's always more fun with him around.

I think it says "Download Code Included" whatever that means. Could it be that there will be DLC for TDKR characters and/or vehicles for Lego Batman 2? That would be really cool to drive the Bat or Tumbler through Gotham City after building the set!

Not bad, although it's very similar to one that I made a while ago. Nice ones, The Penguin. I never noticed Doc Ock's resemblance to Harry before. Today is your lucky day, my friends! Due to the sever issues earlier this week, I was unable to post my last batch here, so today you get a double-batch of funnies! Well, it's only for the rest of October (hopefully), so get over it. Besides, this will give you the time to catch up with TMNT and other shows.

Wow, seriously? That's some way to celebrate their anniversary by upsetting so many fans. As the article says, it's weird because they just started airing new episodes again, and it will be interesting to hear their explanation. Either way, I'm sure it's just temporary. Anyway, I started watching the new TMNT series, seeing as we're getting Lego sets based on it, and it's not bad. Quite entertaining, actually. I have only seen Season 1 of the 80's show which was a bit too cheesy for my taste (no pizza pun intended) and a few episodes of the 2003 one which was pretty good in my opinion, despite its terrible theme song(s), so I was not influenced by nostalgia when I watched this new take on the franchise. The new show takes several aspects from all the previous incarnations of TMNT, including the comics (the Utroms, the white eyes during fight scenes, some of the comic book style scenes, especially in the intro) and the 80's cartoon (Splinter's origin, the chorus of the theme song), and makes some reasonable changes of its own, such as making April around the same age of the turtles so that the young viewers can relate to her better and she can relate to the turtles. It feels like a tribute to TMNT while being fresh and appealing to today's kids. The voice-overs are pretty good too. Rob Paulsen, after having voiced Raphael in the original, does a great job voicing Donatello, and Greg Cipes is a pretty good fit for Mikey. What I don't like so much about the show is that it is very light-hearted, almost more so than the original from the 80's (if that's even possible). The turtles personalities seem to have been amped up: Donatello is a wannabe Cpt. Kirk, Donatello is a total geek, Raphael is angry all the time, and Michelangelo is a childlike goofball. On one hand, this makes them appear much more like real teenagers, but it also makes the whole show seem less mature, and the anime-style comedic scenes don't help either. I wish they would make a TMNT show that's as serious and dark as the comics for once, like that underrated CGI movie from 2007 (which is still my favorite depiction of the characters). The 2003 series seemed to be going in the right direction, but didn't quite get there. But I guess the chances of that happening are pretty low since it's the lightheartedness that appeals to the young audience. One thing is for sure though: The new theme song is awesome! It has the catchy tune from the original cartoon and the beat and strings make it exciting and even more catchy! I've had it stuck in my head for weeks now, and this is coming from someone who usually hates rap music. What do you guys think?

That promotion only applies to the Canadian TRU stores, I believe. See that little word under the TRU logo in the bottom left corner? In the US, the TRU online store is having a "HUGE SALE" on many of their Lego sets, which merely means that they have lowered their prices down to MSRP.

Thanks, you two. I have re-added your entries. Is there anyone else whose sign-up or entry got lost in the server crash? By the way, here's another reminder to please add the topic tag "CBSWIII Revenge of the Sith" to your entry topics. You have about two and half weeks left to complete your entries. Have fun!

Well, that's good and bad news. It's certainly nice to get some variety, but this also means that we probably wont get any versions of them with white eyes. Why couldn't they leave out the pupils on the angry Leo like they did on the Dark Leo? It would have made it much less painful not to have the exclusive black version. Also, having variety means that you will really have to get every set to get all minifigures of this theme. Possibly. I for one think he's pretty spot on. He probably just looks a bit odd because we're looking at him from straight-on. I'm sure he'll look better from other angles.

Yeah, I guess if there's anything that has worse proportions than System, it's Duplo.

Nope. In fact, the inside of this year's Batmobile looks like Captain America threw up in it.I don't mind the blue on the Bat so much. It does make it look more fun and I like the design the more I look at it. Looks nice and swooshable.

Hm, perhaps you're right. I didn't think the print needed an update, but it does look better than the old one. Let's just hope it's printed and not stickered.

Doubtful. How much different could it be from the one we've already gotten?I for one am hoping for a PT figure, like Padme or something.

Thanks for the reference image. Yes, that's what she looks like, and I think she would look even worse as a chubby minifig. And this is a bit off-topic, but I agree about the transfomers. We have seen that it can be done in Hasbro's Kre-O sets, but they would never hand over the license to Lego. Yeah, this email was quite on short notice. Quick, if you jump on the next plane, you just might make it! By the way, for those who didn't get the email and were worrying about there not being any pizza in the Shellraiser set, don't fret. It featured a picture of Michelangelo holding a tan pizza! About time we got that piece in this color again!

Yeah, it doesn't seem like it would be hard to do. One could easily make an Ariel by putting Poison Ivy's hair on one of the POTC mermaids and Eric by putting the new Robin hair on Han Solo from Jabba's Palace, and we already got a yellow king Triton, so they simply would have to make him fleshy. The only new molds they'd have to do are Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle. However, one has to consider that if there was a System Disney princesses line, it could very well have the Friends-style minidolls considering how well Friends is doing and that this line would be aimed primarily at girls. I'm still holding out hope for Monsters Inc/University sets, but I guess with all the sets coming out in the summer already, including the Lone Ranger sets, the chances are slim, and my wallet will be thankful if there wont be any. By the way, does anyone else find it strange that the Undersea Castle has a lower set number than the Boat Ride? I'm guessing the Boat Ride is based on the "Kiss the Girl" scene, which would be a fairly small set, so I can't imagine the castle to be an even smaller set unless it's really just Ariel's room like the Sleeping Beauty set, but then why would they call it a castle?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. She has never had a very big role in TMNT. It's always mostly about the Turtles and their enemies, at least for toy companies. Besides, even if she does get made, she'll be very different to any previous interpretation of her due to her portrayal in the new show. She's much younger for instance. So if you're hoping for a minifig that looks like her 80's version, you'll be better off with a custom.

Uhm, the only other Batman set is the Mr. Freeze one, and let's be honest, how good can a $10-20 set with Aquaman be? I say let's hope the Spider-Cycle set turns out good since a lot of people will be buying that one for the figs.

Received my prizes earlier this week. Thank you very much again, especially for all the bonus prizes!

The birds with anger management issues are officially coming to a galaxy far, far away! I wonder if Steven Anderson had anything to do with this? Some of the designs are quite similar, especially Chewie and Han. Too bad Hasbro has the license for the toys.

Yeah, the official press release mentions all the sets they are going to reveal, and Star Wars doesn't seem to have any.
