Umm, have you even seen Inside Out? It's much more than just a movie about creatures controlling your brain. It's a very clever visualization of the emotional state of a young girl who is going through a tough time in her life. It's a movie about the importance of sadness and how we have to give up certain parts of our personality in order to grow up. It's a very profound message that you don't really see in other movies and it's a film that helps kids (and even adults) understand their emotions and cope with difficult situations that they might be going through themselves. Not to mention the great jokes and brilliant animation which features contrasting styles for the Inside world and the Outside world. If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest checking it out. Jurassic World on the other hand is really just another movie about people running from dinosaurs with the same old warning about not playing god. If you enjoyed it, that's fine, but don't compare it to a masterpiece like Inside Out. Aside from all the product placement, I didn't see much about commercialism in the movie. I guess you could argue that it's about how corporations will do anything to open a profitable theme park, but to think that even the most greedy corporation would be stupid enough to open a Jurassic theme park after the events in the last three movies and engineer an even more dangerous dinosaur is insulting to anyone with a brain. Chris Pratt was just about the only likable character because he was the only one with any goddamn sense, except for that nerdy guy in the control room who kept pointing out the movie's flaws. And don't get me started on Claire and that cliche military villain. I could go on about how stupid the movie was, but it's a tired argument at this point. That said, I did enjoy the film for what it was - a silly movie about people running from dinosaurs - but it wasn't much beyond that. Interesting. You're right, I dismissed that movie because it seemed like a B-movie that seemed to shamelessly cash in on the popularity of Mission: Impossible and all the other spy movies that came out that year, but I might have to check it out on Netflix sometime.

So now that the year has ended, it is time to look back and think of all the good things that happened. And, boy, was it a good year for movies! There were several blockbusters that shattered box office records in 2015 and were praised by movie goers and critics alike! But there were also plenty of people that were unimpressed by these movies, especially after the hype for them had died down. Not only that, but the most successful movies were all sequels/remakes of older movies. So do these films deserve all the praise and money they received or are they just overhyped, unoriginal trash? Well, let me share my thoughts on some of the movies I've seen this year in the order in which they were released. Don't worry, I'll keep it spoiler-free. Kingsman: The Secret Service - The year started with a bang with this spy action comedy based on a comic! As the movie likes to point out itself, this is not a traditional spy movie. There are lots of ultra-violent, super-fun, stylish action scenes and lots of great humor which make for a unique, enjoyable flick. Chappie - Did you like that part in Short Circuit 2 where Johnny 5 joins a gang? Well, then you will probably like this movie, too, because that's the entire movie. I was honestly expecting a bit more from this one, but the lovable protagonist made it enjoyable enough. Cinderella - This is the second film in the long line of live-action remakes of Disney classics which seem to exist only to make money. Admittedly, it was a fairly close adaption of the animated version and expanded on the story a little bit, but it was not much more than that and actually managed to make the titular character even less interesting somehow. While Maleficent was worse, at least it tried to tell the story from a different perspective. This was basically the same movie, just in live-action. Furious 7 - This is the seventh entry in a franchise about heists in souped-up cars with lots of over-the-top action. It was pretty good, but it probably would have only been just another decent entry in the series if it wasn't for that heartbreaking tribute to Paul Walker at the end. Avengers: Age of Ultron - The highly anticipated sequel to Marvel's Avengers gave us exactly what we wanted: More of the Avengers fighting bad guys, working off of each other, and just hanging out together, plus a cool new villain and more heroes to join their team. Unfortunately, there wasn't much more to it than that. Much like in the first one, the story was very basic and didn't make a lot of sense sometimes, and there wasn't much new in this film. It was just kind of more of the same, which is fine since that's what we expected, but it could have been better. Mad Max: Fury Road - I saw the fourth installment in the Mad Max series a few weeks after everyone had been touting it as the "greatest action film in years" and while I did enjoy it, I felt that it was a bit overhyped. It was basically just one big car chase with very little story. Which is fine for an action movie of course, I was just expecting a little more based on the rave reviews. The action and visuals were fantastic, though, so I can't complain. Tomorrowland - Being a fan of Brad Bird's previous works, I was very excited for this one. It had a lot of promise, but it ended up being disappointing. While it does have some nice moments, it was just too corny and too all over the place. Terminator Genisys - I didn't hate this one as much as many other people did. I thought it was at least better than Salvation, although that's not saying much. It definitely has its flaws. Aside from Arnold who was a delight to see again, every character seemed miscast, the story was a mess, and some of the effects were pretty bad, but it had some decent humor and action. I think they just need to put this franchise to rest. Minions - It's usually never a good idea to make a film centered around the comic relief of a movie, and this is no exception. While the minions are still adorable and hilarious, they're not really interesting enough to carry a movie, so while this film was amusing, it wasn't nearly as good as the Despicable Me films. Jurassic World - Being the highest grossing movie of the year and the third highest of all time, you'd think this movie was one of the best produced, best written, and best acted films ever, right? Well, it's not. It's just Jurassic Park again, but with fake CG dinosaurs, less interesting characters, and a stupid plot. Sure, it was better than Jurassic Park 3, and if you just want to see Chris Pratt and some dinosaurs, you'll probably like it fine, but it is not so good that it deserves being this successful. The only thing that makes it worth watching is the climax which is admittedly pretty awesome. Inside Out - This was easily my favorite movie of the year and one of (if not the) best Pixar films! It's one of the most original and most brilliant films I've ever seen. People often like to compare it to other things like Osmosis Jones or Herman's Head, but this is the first film that does the concept of showing the inside of the mind right and really shows the importance of certain emotions and of growing up. It has lots of funny moments as well as sad moments and the usual excellent Pixar animation. Just a wonderful film. Ant-Man - Much like Guardians of the Galaxy, this could have easily been a flop, but the talented people at Marvel turned one of the most laughable superheroes into a fun, fresh mix of a superhero and a heist movie. It doesn't take itself too seriously and does some fun new things with the shrinking concept. The story is basically the same as Iron Man and the villain is fairly forgettable, but that's the case with most Marvel villains. Is it the best Marvel movie? No, but it's a lot more entertaining than you'd expect. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - I loved Ghost Protocol which was directed by Brad Bird, and this one was just as good! Simon Pegg is hilarious as always, Tom Cruise continues impress us with his insane stunts, and Rebecca Ferguson makes for a great female lead. There are lots of great, heart-pounding action scenes and interesting plot twists as you would expect from a good M:I film. It's probably my second favorite of the year. The Marian - One of the most entertaining and most realistic space movies I've seen in a long time. I didn't really like Nolan's Interstellar since it was more fiction than science, and while Gravity was suspenseful, it didn't have much of a plot. Based on a book, this one was a lot more of an old-fashioned, realistic story about a man trying to survive on Mars while NASA tries to "bring him home". It has a lot of good humor as well as suspense. Spectre - Wow, there sure were a lot of spy movies this year! This is the fourth Bond film starring Daniel Craig and while it may not be as good as Skyfall or Casino Royale, it was still a fun 007 flick that was a lot more reminiscent of the classic Bond films in its tone. Christoph Waltz was great as always and considering that this was the first Bond film not based on one of Ian Fleming's stories, the plot was pretty good. The Peanuts Movie - I was never a huge fan of the Peanuts. I never read the comics and the old animated specials were all kind of boring to me. But this movie was very enjoyable. It had a bit more energy and a very interesting CG animated style that mimicked the old animation style. The story is nothing special as it's just about Charlie Brown having a crush on the new girl and trying to muster up the courage to talk to her while Snoopy is being Snoopy. It's very quaint and charming in its simplicity and has a lot of humorous moments. If I had to describe the movie in one word, it would be cute. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 - The final installment in the series of movies based on one of the most successful young adult novels is a bit slow, especially in the beginning, but ultimately serves as a satisfying conclusion to the series. I really wish they wouldn't have split this book into two parts, but oh well. The Good Dinosaur - It's no secret that I'm a huge Pixar fan, so I was very excited that this was the first year that we got two Pixar films in one year! But not even I can deny that The Good Dinosaur was disappointing, especially coming out so shortly after Inside Out. It's every "dinosaur gets lost" and "a boy and his dog" story you've ever seen and they hardly do anything with the premise of the meteor missing the Earth. Plus the stylized dinos don't seem to fit into the photo-realistic environments (which were gorgeous!). It's not a bad movie, it's just nothing special. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - The most anticipated movie since Phantom Menace has finally been released, and I am happy to say that it is much better than Episode I! However, it is not without its flaws. Many complain that it's too similar to A New Hope, but it's still a fun movie and makes the next two films promising. The Hateful Eight - The year ends with Quentin Tarantino's second Western and it's as great as I had hoped it would be! Of course it has his signature amount of gore, but it's very intense with lots of great lines from Samuel L. Jackson. I think I still like Django Unchained better, but this was just as good. There were plenty other movies that had very good reviews, but these are just some that I have seen. So was it a great year for movies? Yes, there were definitely a lot of entertaining films to watch. However, it is also true that many of them were not very original. A lot of them are the 4th, 5th, or even 7th installment in their respective franchises and more or less just repeat the plot from the original in order to capitalize on nostalgia. This is a clear sign that Hollywood is trying more and more to play it safe, and seeing how successful these sequels/remakes have been this year, I don't see this trend dying anytime soon. However, just because something doesn't have an original plot doesn't mean it's bad. As movies like Fury Road, The Force Awakens, and Ant-Man have shown, you can still make a very entertaining movie even with an old formula if you put some effort into it. And entertainment is what movies are all about. So what do you think? What were your favorite movies of 2015 and what do you think about all these sequels/remakes?

PLEASE NO SPOILERS Episode VII. Is it good?
Oky replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I think it was good, but not as super-duper-amazing as many make it out to be. Anyone who is giving this film a (near) perfect score is either easily entertained or is fanboying. I'm not being bitter or anything (believe me, I was fanboying at the theater too), I'm just judging the film objectively. I'd put it firmly between the prequels and the OT. It has indeed a lot of similarities to A New Hope and other parts of the OT and is obviously self-aware of that which took me out of the movie sometimes. The plot, the character types, the locations, the vehicles, most of it seems like we've seen it all before, but the new characters are good, although the villains are a bit underwhelming. There are lots of plot holes and some very convenient plot points, but maybe these holes will be filled in the next two movies. As a Star Wars fan who even enjoyed the prequels, I still liked the movie a lot, I just wish they wouldn't have tried so hard to make it like A New Hope in order to prey on the nostalgia of the fans and given us a bit more of an original story. -
Do we know if the Marvel Mighty Micros are released along with the DC ones in March?

I still think there is a chance we might get DuckTales minifigs when the new DuckTales show airs in 2017, but unless they reboot Darkwing as well, I don't think we'll ever see him (as much as I would love to have him too). If we do get a Scrooge McDuck fig at some point, my life will be complete. Incidentally, I got the DVD of DuckTales The Movie for Christmas and just rewatched it today. So many good memories!- 4,155 replies

Don't know if this has been discussed already, but I really hope that price is a typo! I mean, the First Order Snowspeeder had nearly 40 pieces more and only cost $40. Maz Kanata's Temple of Bacon by Angus MacLane, on Flickr

Don't get your hopes up. These hairpieces pretty much prove that most of the (human) minifigs will have regular heads, so there's not much point in debating this any longer. If Peter has a normal head, so will Hook. There is still a slight chance Genie might get a molded head (and I think I would prefer that too) since he is less a human and more a "phenomenal cosmic" being with odd proportions, but we'll have to wait and see.- 4,155 replies

I doubt it. We've never gotten more than one animal in a CMF pack and only including one of them would be pretty lame, not to mention most of her bag will already be filled up by her tentacles.- 4,155 replies

I bet Syndrome will have some lightning pieces to represent his powers. Mr. Incredible probably wont have anything except maybe one of those self-destructing messages. Ursula could come with the contract, her crystal ball, or some kind of potion bottle.- 4,155 replies

Oh my Disney! These look perfect! Finally we have some proof and FINALLY we can put the molded heads debate to rest! Although the princess discussion still seems to remain... Then again, these figs seem to come in pairs of hero and villain, so I can't imagine them making Ursula and not Ariel, especially since she doesn't need any new molds. The mystery hair doesn't look like any Disney character, so it's probably from S16 or the soccer series or maybe something else. I really hope all of these will come with double-sided heads. Especially the Incredibles figs would benefit from a mask-less face. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see more!- 4,155 replies

Hooray! Another year, another win! Congrats to the lucky winners on day 24 (I was one day too early! ) and good luck for next year for those that didn't make it this time. And of course, huge thanks to CopMike for organizing this amazing raffle once again. Merry Christmas or whatever the heck you're celebrating!

Well, Quest for R2 was a Flash game on their website. I'm sure there will still be online games like that. I'm just talking about the Tt games which I don't think will change their formula anytime soon. Again, I could see a Star Wars Rebels game released in the meantime, maybe next summer after the second season ends.

As we have already discussed in this thread, I don't think so. As I said before, one movie doesn't provide enough material to warrant a game and if they wanted to release one, they would have done so already to tie it in with the release of the movie. I don't think we will get one until the release of Episode VIII.

Thank you. I was guessing the color would be blue-ish like the Disney logo and this is pretty close. In fact, the color in that picture seems to be a bit off, so I wouldn't be surprised actually if the real color turns out to be a bit more blue. But honestly, I don't care about the color. I don't want to see teasers like this anymore, I just want to see pics of the figs already!- 4,155 replies

Pixar Animation Studios and Films Discussion
Oky replied to just2good's topic in Culture & Multimedia
So did anyone else watch The Good Dinosaur? Personally, I'd call it The Mediocre Dinosaur. It wasn't bad - it was certainly cute and gorgeous to look at - but it just felt like I had seen all this before. If you saw the trailer, you've practically seen the movie. As I feared, the story is basically the same as A Land Before Time and I feel that they didn't do enough with the premise. The only thing that was different from other dinosaur movies was that humans and dinos coexist and that the dinos are slightly more evolved as they have figured out farming. Why didn't they go all the way with it? Why not show a modern day earth where dinosaurs are the dominant species and humans are pets or something? I think they could have gotten so much more creative with the idea of dinosaurs not getting extinct. Perhaps I wouldn't have been so disappointed if this movie wouldn't have come out so shortly after Inside Out, one of the best films Pixar has ever made, but as it is, it seems like nothing special, which is kinda bad for the Pixar standard. Sanjay's Super Team was pretty cool, though, and I look forward to Finding Dory. Speaking of dinosaurs... THIS SHOW NEEDS TO EXIST NOW!!!- 279 replies

Hm, I hadn't even thought about that, that's a great point! That's one less mold they would need for her, but they would still need one for her hair and her cane. But yeah, if we get her, it will probably be when TS4 comes out.- 4,155 replies

They wouldn't come with accessories. Buzz already has his wings as accessories and I honestly can't think of any iconic accessory that Woody has. Besides, any accessory that they could include you can probably get on Bricklink too.- 4,155 replies

If you want Toy Story figures so badly, I have good news for you: You can easily get them on bricklink right now. They already made them and they might do them again if they make sets for TS4, so lets get some new characters in this series. I agree, both about the Tarzan movie and the list. I still stick with my statement that Tarzan is an unlikely choice, but not an impossible one. Maybe we'll get him in a later series, but probably not the first one. I'm sorry, but you're not exactly acting like an adult either by making a condescending "I told you so" lecture. What you said was that the list is "confirmed" to be fake because according to you, Disney doesn't have the rights to make merchandise for their own movie, but that was proven to false, so you're not in a position to say "I told you so" in the first place. As jluck said, even if the list was fake, it was still fun to speculate which is what rumor discussion topics are for. Agreed. I can't see them not reusing that piece for some kind of princess character here, so here's hoping.- 4,155 replies

Thank you. This should put the copyright debate to rest. If they can make these, there is no reason why they couldn't make minifigures. The only reason why Disney hasn't had any Tarzan merch in a while is because there's not much demand for it, but this proves that when there's a collectable line of Disney figures, they aren't beyond including him. Whatever happened with the Kingdom Hearts games, it had nothing to do with Disney not having the rights to the source material. I couldn't agree more. I think for Lego it makes sense to make Tarzan and Jane since they wouldn't require any new molds and for Disney, as you said, it would be an inexpensive way of reminding people of Disney's Tarzan. I still think it's an odd choice since there are other, much more popular characters that wouldn't require any new molds either, but it's not an implausible choice.- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
Oky replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Isn't that just a rumor that is going around Kingdom Hearts forums? I have yet to find any proof of this claim being true. Also, somebody said the same thing about Peter Pan several pages back, and yet him and Hook are the only confirmed characters for these CMFs so far, not to mention that there is tons of Peter Pan merchandise and spin-offs out there right now, including the LEGO DUPLO Jake and the Never Land Pirates sets. There may not be any Tarzan merchandise right now, but you can still see Tarzan in the Disney parks, so I'm pretty sure Disney can do whatever they want with THEIR version of the character(s). They may just not want to do anything with it due to the film's low popularity. Well, yes, she is officially a Disney princess, but she is technically not a princess, so I didn't count her. Besides, I'm pretty sure that if Lego makes her, she will have her military armor, not her geisha or civilian outfit that she usually has under the Disney Princess brand. Yeah, also, this is a Collectable Minifigures series, so they could include all 5 emotions to encourage people to collect them all. I disagree and I'm surprised that you of all people are against minifigure versions of minidolls considering you make minifigure versions of minidolls yourself. If they keep the princesses exclusive to minidolls, we would have to mix minidolls with minifigs to have all Disney characters together and I feel that clash of two different styles of figures would just be too great. Some people might be okay with that, but I think most of us would prefer to have all characters in one consistent style. As someone who does like molded heads, I can tell you, no, it's not the same thing. That's like saying people who like Fabuland should logically also like Chima because it has anthropomorphic animals in it. Minidolls are a completely different style of figure which are designed the way they are to appeal to a specific audience. Molded heads on the other hand don't define the entire style of a minifigure, they just give it a more defined head shape to make it look more accurate. Now, I'm not saying all minifigs should have molded heads. They should only be used if they are necessary to improve a minifigure's appearance. For example, out of this rumored list I would expect Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Stitch, Anger, Fear, and maybe Genie to have a molded head. I think the rest would work with regular heads, but as long as they look good, I wouldn't mind if they have molded heads too, but that's just my opinion. But... the movie comes out in April and this series comes out in May, so wouldn't this be that wave? Well, technically The Good Dinosaur is the most recent Disney Pixar movie, but I agree with you. I am not familiar with that site, so I can't speak for their credibility, but the impression that I got from briefly browsing through it is that it is a fan-run blog that just reposts Lego news from around the web. If they were a retailer site, I'd be a lot more inclined to believe this list, but we don't know where they got this information from, so I'll remain skeptical. Really? I don't know what country you live in, but here in the US it has been advertised quite a lot and is often cited as one of the best movies of the year. You should definitely check it out!- 4,155 replies

Well, I certainly wouldn't complain if we get all the Inside Out emotions in the first series. But yeah, I have a hard time believing that they would do that. I would expect a lot more classic characters in the first series. The rest of the list sounds pretty good too (except for Tarzan and Jane) so I kinda hope it's true, but I wont hold my breath. However, if this is true, then I have a bad feeling about this theme. If they don't have a single princess in the first wave, I'm afraid that they will indeed keep the princesses exclusive to the minidoll sets as some had speculated which would be terrible. If they do Jane, she could come with the new dress piece.- 4,155 replies
