    Star Wars

Well, I liked parts of The Last Jedi, in fact it might be my favorite out of the Disney era films, but let me be the first to say that overall I was not impressed. Like that YouTube reviewer above says, lots of things happened and yet it seems like we are in the same situation at the end as we were at the beginning of the movie. At first it looked like the franchise was going in a new direction, but I feel like in the end it just fell back to the same-old-same-old which is disappointing. While I do like what they did with the classic characters, the new characters had the same problems as they did in TFA and did nothing to win me over. Many questions remain unanswered, the lightsaber fights are weak, and the locations, ship designs, and battle sequences are very uninspired. Even the humor (which there is a lot of) is not as good as in TFA. I did like some of the themes in it and there were indeed some surprises, although not necessarily for the better. Sorry, but this is not nearly as good as ESB or RotJ which it borrows heavily from, even if it's not a beat-for-beat remake like TFA was.
  2. I understand. That's why I said "kind of pointless" as I do know that the whole point of movie adaptations is to bring those great stories to people who don't play video games (and make more money out of them). True, Hollywood seems very much bereft of originality these days, but isn't adapting a popular video game just as unoriginal as adapting a popular book? Just a thought. I disagree. I mean, I'd definitely want to see Rapture in its prime as well, but only as a flashback during the film. I don't know how much you know about BioShock, but there are many plot twists which are revealed the more you learn about what happened before the events of the game, and one of the best parts about the game is being dropped into this dark, mysterious place and gradually unveiling its secrets, so I'd want the movie to have the same feel.
  3. Honestly, seeing how every single movie adaptation of a videogame has been terrible or mediocre at best, I'm not sure I want to see any more. The only movie that was somewhat successful is Wreck-it-Ralph, but that was just an original movie about videogames in general, not an adaptation of a specific game. Ready Player One is in a similar category, although it remains to be seen if that one is any good. I think the problem is that classic games like Super Mario Bros. have such a simple and/or weird story that it will be hard to make a movie about them that is realistic, entertaining, and faithful at the same time, whereas modern games have become so cinematic that they are essentially interactive movies already, so turning them into live action films would simply remove the interactive element and therefore be kind of pointless, especially since most "live action" movies are made up of at least 50% CGI nowadays anyway. Now, does that mean that a good videogame movie can't be made? No, of course not. If you get a good director and cast and pick a property that lends itself to a movie adaptation, it is possible to make a good movie out of it, but at this point it seems unlikely to happen. That said, I hope the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot will be good. I am a fan of the game which it's based on and since it's one of those games that was so story-driven and had such realistic graphics that it was essentially a playable movie, so I can see it working as an actual movie if they don't change too much, and so far the trailer looks like it is fairly faithful to the game. But then again, we've been burned by a Tomb Raider movie twice before (although the first one is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me ). I kinda hope that the Uncharted movie will get out of development hell at some point as I think it has a similar chance of being a good movie, considering the recent Tomb Raider games have been an effort to copy the style of those games, although it will be hard to find a cast that has the same charm as the characters in the game. It has been announced that Illumination is working on an animated Mario movie and I think this is probably the best chance we have at a decent Mario movie. The colorful and cartoony nature of the Mushroom Kingdom and their residents can only be done justice in animation in my opinion, and say what you will about the minions, but Illumination is one of the best animation studios in Hollywood right now, so they have the talent to pull it off I think, so fingers crossed. Speaking of Nintendo, many have been clamoring for a Zelda movie since forever, and even though I've never played any of the games except for a bit of Twilight Princess, I get the impression that it is a fairly generic fantasy story, so I do think there is potential for an epic movie or at least TV show there. I have never played any of the Five Nights at Freddy's games either, but the characters do look pretty creepy, so the movie that is currently in development could make for a good scary movie if done right. That is to say, if they use ACTUAL animatronics and not some CG crap. Maybe we could even get a clear answer about what the hell the story of these games is. I'm getting tired of seeing theories about FNAF lore. I like the idea of a BioShock movie, and I also think that a Portal movie could be fun if it has the same clever writers as the games, although I'm not sure how interesting it would be to watch a silent protagonist go through testing chambers while being berated by an AI for two hours. Maybe they could make it like Hardcore Henry by having the whole movie in Chell's POV and give a good reason for why she doesn't talk (a side effect of her hibernation perhaps?). One of my favorite games of all time is Jak & Daxter, so I'd love to see a movie based on those games. It's never gonna happen, but considering that the big screen debut of their more popular cousins, Ratchet & Clank, didn't go so well, perhaps it's for the better. Sorry for the long post, but those are my thoughts.
  4. Thanks guys! Indeed. I can't wait for the actual Voltron set. I was considering having KITT from Knight Rider as one of the vehicles which oddly enough is also a license that they have thanks to Lego Dimensions (R.I.P.).
  5. Like @Lyichir, I could definitely see a The Lego Movie Holiday Special happening. Maybe the plot could be a Toy Story type situation where Finn gets some new sets for Christmas and Emmett and the gang have to get used to the new minifigures in Bricksburg. At first they don't get along and a little battle ensues, but in the end they learn to settle their differences and live in harmony in the spirit of the holidays as Lego Santa flies over Bricksburg. I like that idea. Of course it would be named the Tree of Aeer-Freshn-Arr. Maybe it could be like The Nightmare Before Christmas where the minifigs have never heard of Christmas before and the discovery of this relic is what introduces them to it. The special would be about them trying to figure out what Christmas is as everyone has their own idea of what it is about, all of which are hilariously wrong. Wyldstyle thinks it's all about decorating, Unikitty thinks it's all about the food and candy, Batman thinks it's about everyone giving gifts to Batman, etc. But in the end they all learn the true meaning of Christmas. While I love A Christmas Carol, I feel that story is overdone at this point, but I guess a Lego Movie version of it could work. One of the ghosts that would visit President Business would have to be Vitruvius. There are so many different ways this could go. I hope they make such a special at some point!
  6. From days of long ago, from the uncharted regions of the nerdy-verse, comes a legend, the legend of Nerdtron: Defender of the 80's! A mighty robot loved by good, feared by evil! This totally tubular titan is comprised of some of the most iconic pop culture vehicles of the 80's, such as the Ecto-1, Delorean time machine, A-Team Van, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Wagon, and Nerdly forms the head. Sporting a glorious mullet, shoulder pads, and a walkman, our heroic 80's icons are ready to take on the Shredder, Biff, ghosts, or any other evil foe that threatens our nostalgia! This is my entry for the Nerdvember contest on Bricknerd. It was inspired by an illustration that I came across in an image search. 7. The ideal Christmas tree (at least for Batman) is a Bat-Christmas-Tree! Batsmas Tree by Okay Yaramanoglu, on Flickr Thanks for having this fun raffle again this year! Happy Holidays!
  8. I probably wont see Coco this weekend either due to the holiday.(seriously, why are they releasing it on Thanksgiving instead of Halloween/Dia De Los Muertos?!). I don't mind Olaf (aside from the disappointment that we are getting this cash grab instead of an original Pixar short), so I definitely want to see it in the theater, hopefully next week. In other Pixar news, John Lasseter has taken a 6-month leave of absence due to reasons that are too sad for me to discuss. You can read the details in the article below, but prepare to have the image of yet another idol tarnished for you: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/john-lasseter-taking-leave-absence-pixar-missteps-1057113 On a brighter note, I saw the pilot for Big Hero 6 The Series and it's pretty good. It takes place in between the last few scenes of the movie and has the same amount of heart, humor, and action as the movie, so I look forward to the rest of the series. By the way, is anyone else starting to feel a bit underwhelmed by the Ducktales reboot? Don't get me wrong, it's still entertaining, but where is the adventure? Since the pilot they haven't even left the city except once to go to another city. And Dewey seems more concerned with getting an internship with some annoying millennial stereotype billionaire than to find out what happened to their mother. In the last episode they finally went to Egypt and the next episode will take them to Mt. Neverrest, so hopefully the show is picking up now.
  9. Thanks! You can see the other entries in the contest thread on FBTB: https://www.fbtb.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12937&p=97898#p97898 Thank you. I actually quite like the U-Wing, hence the influences in my design. The set is a pretty nice build and fun to swoosh around. Although maybe I just liked the design because it was such a breath of fresh air after all those rehashes in TFA.
  10. Thanks! Nope. Completely my design. The idea of starfighters based on Aurebesh letters is what the guys over at FBTB came up with.
  11. The -Wing starfighter was an experimental starfighter which resembled the shape of the first letter in the Aurebesh alphabet "Aurek". It was an extremely fast and agile fighter with similar features to the U-Wing fighter. Its most notable feature was its prong-like retractable wings or S-foils that could split apart at the front to switch from flight to attack mode, thereby increasing the size of the ship's deflector shields and the spread of its fire, which earned it the nickname of Scissor Fighter. It also featured retractable landing gear, a central fin, laser cannons on each wing and in front of the cockpit, large engines on each side, as well as a small thruster behind the cockpit. This is my entry for the Star Wars X Building Contest on FBTB and since it's NnoVVember, I decided to make it a vic viper as well. Here is a bird's eye view where you can see the Aurek shape better:
  12. True, although I have mixed feelings about it. Sure, Pixar's photorealistic rendering nowadays looks impressive, but The Incredibles had a minimalistic stylized look about it which was highlighted by the highly stylized end credits. adding all these realistic details kind of undermines that (no pun intended). It looks a bit odd to me, but the character designs seem to be mostly the same though, so it might grow on me.
  13. I actually love that this is a throwback to the classic Pixar teaser trailers which featured exclusive animation for the trailer and didn't give anything away about the actual film, even if this is not nearly as good as those classic teasers which were almost like a short film of their own. I hope they are bringing this tradition back. Too many trailers give too much away nowadays and having exclusive animation makes them that much more special. So I guess we can now add heat vision and electricity to Jack-Jack's already vast list of powers which makes him even more OP than Superman. I'm guessing that he will eventually develop his own powers based on his personality like the other Supers and lose all the other powers as he grows up. I'm excited to see what direction this film will take!
  14. Ha, that's a good one, and a little disturbing. I especially like the fig in mid-transformation. I had to make a funny with one of the Bricktober figs too, and this is what I came up with: Anyone notice something different about Ursula in the new Disney set? Where Ariel gets her legs instead:

    Star Wars

Sorry to reference that other sci-fi franchise, but... Sigh. I guess it's only fitting that such an uninspired, unwarranted prequel has such a stupid, uninspired title. On a brighter note: This looks great and I live in Anaheim, so I can't wait for this!
  16. Hello! This is my entry for the Freighter Wars contest on Rebrick. Anybody order a large Corellian freighter with extra cheese? This hunk of junk food may not look like much, but it sure is tasty! Comprised of a large pepperoni pizza, a cheeseburger, a milkshake, a cookie, two hotdogs, and a side of fries, this food freighter is sure to satisfy even the biggest hunger and send the Fast Food Empire running!
  17. Thanks everyone! I was actually planning to make it a spaceship initially with small treads instead of the landing gear, but as I was building, the mandibles reminded me of the Tumbler and I thought how cool it would look with a giant wheel in front, so I got rid of half of the treads and changed it to a land vehicle (which is more Batman's style anyway). I left the treads in the back small so that the vehicle wouldn't be tilted too much. Haha, indeed I borrowed some of the building techniques from the latest System-scale set, but had to keep it small since I was forced to use shorter wedge plates for the round hull due to the color, so I can see where the confusion comes from. I think it came out pretty good overall though. Interesting observation. That cannon is actually another remnant from an earlier draft of the vehicle where it was still meant to be a spaceship. You're right, it is perhaps a bit overkill on the vehicle as it is now, but then again, isn't overkill what Lego Batman is all about?
  18. @Mesabi Ah yes, I remember my friendly whack-off competition with @Jammiedodger quite fondly as well. Sadly he doesn't come around these forums much anymore. Wow, that was a long time ago! I guess it's about time you officially introduced yourself, so a belated welcome to you and I look forward to seeing you around the boards.
  19. Thanks! I submitted it there too, but I just saw that your entry is not allowed to feature any other IP than Star Wars.
  20. Hello! This is my entry for the Millennium Falcon contest on The Brothers Brick. Please excuse the poor picture quality as I was in a rush to get it photographed. While Lego Batman was not impressed with those "bunch of dudes" that he stole a hyperdrive from, he did take a liking to their ship, so after Brickburg was saved, he constructed his own version of the Millennium Falcon: the Millennium Bat! Equipped with 2 quad laser cannons, a Bat-computer, a crime lab, a weapons rack, a Bat-radar, a jet engine, powerful wheels, and a dining room for eating lobster thermidor, this bad boy serves as both a big, fierce crime-fighting vehicle as well as a mobile Batcave. The cockpit opens up to seat the pilots inside. The upper quad laser cannon can be lifted up to access the gunner station underneath. And just like on all the official Falcons, the hull opens up to reveal the interior. There are tools, a workbench, the engine, a desk for detective work, and a small bed. This is where our heroes hang their weapons. Here is the Batcomputer and the sitting area. Since Batman doesn't play board games, there is a plate of lobster thermidor instead of the holo chess. A close up of our heroes: Bat Solo (who always shoots first and hits at first try), Rrrrrrobin (who is very hairy), Princess Barbareia, and their loyal butler L-FR3D. Thanks for looking. Let me know what you think of it. To the comments section!
  21. You know, people are entitled to their own opinion. Just because they disagree with you doesn't make them wrong or "insane". There are different ways to compile this list and everyone has their own way. If you go by likeness, voices don't count, but if you go just by representation in general, then they do. I agree that if you do count voice actors, you should only do so when a character has only ever been voiced by one person or when it's clearly based on one particular portrayal of the character. Dubs in different languages don't count (unless you're putting together a "Dubbers with the most minifig representations" list). Otherwise you'd have to count all the people that have ever played a character and it will just get too difficult to keep track of that. The only area where it gets confusing (and a little meta) is when you have a minifig that is not based on any particular portrayal of a character, but is voiced by one person in the Lego TV specials and/or video games, such as many of the DC Super Heroes characters. Do they count? Perhaps we should make a separate thread titled "Voice Actors with the most minifig representations" so we can finally end this debate. Anyway, if you do count voice actors, with the release of the TTG Beast Boy Greg Cipes now has three representations (with the other two being Michelangelo and Iron Fist). And Raven is Tara Strong's second representation after Mary Jane. It's kinda crazy that we only have 2 of her considering she's in everything nowadays.
  22. I agree with Biggus here. If you want the "glowing eyes" look for Black Bolt, you could use the upcoming Easter Bunny Batman or Roman Batman head from the Bricktober set. As for the torso, I'd suggest the Racer X torso. It's her hair braid.
  23. It took me a while to get it, but very good. I hope it's been long enough since the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Wonder Woman to post some spoilery funnies based on them. Birdman by Okay Yaramanoglu, on Flickr Stolen Plane by Okay Yaramanoglu, on Flickr Wrong Ares by Okay Yaramanoglu, on Flickr Thanks to @Vindicare for the idea for the Wonder Woman one.
  24. My guess is that The Incredibles 2 will be a new sub theme of Juniors like Cars 3 rather than be part of the Disney sub theme (which is essentially a rebranding of the Disney Princess theme).
  25. I doubt they would use minidolls since The Incredibles is more of a boy oriented theme. At least I certainly hope not. Imagining Mr. Incredible as a minidoll is just... wrong. And how would they even do Dash or Jack Jack? It would make no sense.
