LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

To me the Spider Tank looks accurate, just very oversized. I would’ve preferred if it had a bit more brown pieces, but the source material isn’t interesting to me so I wouldn’t have bought it anyways. -

Ooh, good point. That would definitely work, in the same vein as Luke & the Dark Troopers worked as a sort of battle pack even if it had a named character. Plus you can easily mod it to create a longer hallway if you buy multiple. -

100%. Making something MBS just means Lego might take a few liberties on the accuracy of the design to have it work with minifigures. Which makes sense for buildings that are way larger than the set can capture like Cloud City, Hoth, and the Ewok Village, as well as buildings with ill-defined proportions and with random add-ons designed for the set like the Mos Eisley Cantina. For ships they are contained designs that aren’t overly large and have lots of clear designs from the source material to go off of, so they can make the design as accurate as possible to the source material. (While also throwing a bunch of play features in for the minifig-compatible sets.) -

The Razor Crest is a UCS Set, and still recreated all of the things you possibly could at minifig scale, as is the AT-AT. There’s definitely as much of not more details you could fit on the Barge vs. the Cantina, especially if they include the skiffs and the Sarlacc. I’d personally be devastated if they made a barebones UCS Khetanna with barely any figs, because it is just the perfect model for a UCS/MBS set at minifig-scale with lots of minifigs and play features in the set. -

The TIE Interceptor is another boring OT UCS set, but that’s to be expected for the May 4th UCS set at this point. I am very excited about the Droideka and Podrace sets though, since it means Lego is finally willing to branch out beyond the OT a bit for display sets. -

Saw some August sets on the shelves at Walmart today. $20 CAD for the mechs is just a ridiculous price. Yoda’s starfighter is cool, and I’m going to get it at some point, but I’ll probably wait until it’s on clearance or buy it when I need it to meet a GWP threshold. -

It’s funny that this is the first way we’re getting Rey’s yellow blade. From the image the blade does look a little weird, and I’m worried it might be trans neon green rather than trans yellow. Although that could just be the blurry quality making it look weird. The trans yellow 4L bar has only ever appeared in one set back in 2015, although fortunately it isn’t prohibitively expensive on bricklink. -

More clones, really? I guess it saves my wallet, but this is getting ridiculous. -

It’s too bad that the new Chopper figure still has two grey legs instead of a grey and a green one. Also the lack of side head printing for his arm slots is rough, especially since they were included on the original Chopper figure. My guess would be frosted trans clear bars since making a new colour of brick is I’m sure quite expensive and a major decision. (Or they might just use plain white bars, although I think frosted trans clear is better.) -

It isn’t absolutely necessary, but it does more closely resemble Ahsoka in the show. Hopefully the fact that the new Ahsoka mould is smaller and thicker means they can make it out of ABS plastic so the printing doesn’t wear off as easily. -

Definitely dark red if you look at the image with the white background. -

Similar to Padmé, Palpatine has worn lots of different outfits that we’ve never gotten. (With the Episode IX versions being the most prominent) I do wish we got a different outfit from the same red Revenge of the Sith one in the Gunship, since there’s so many other options they could go with. -

I just realized that the Yoda head mould from the Tenoo Jedi Temple set isn’t symmetrical, and has the slight upwards twist on Yoda’s left ear, which isn’t captured on the normal Yoda mould. Which is probably because the normal Yoda mould is based on the prequels Yoda model, where the ear twist is the least prominent of any Yoda design in a show or movie. -

I don’t think it’s happening soon. But I think it’s a good chance he has a dual-moulded leg in playsets 5-10 years from now. Just like how arm printing used to be an extreme rarity, but is becoming more and more common now. -

Other licensed D2C sets such as ones Star Wars have followed the same path of no longer being exclusive after 3 months. Maybe the Lion Knights Castle is different since it’s not licensed, and doesn’t really have any appeal to non-Lego fans? So in that way keeping it exclusive Lego loses out on almost no sales, and makes a lot more money off the sales they were already going to make. Whereas LOTR and Star Wars are much more likely to be appealing to a random person that just stumbled upon a set. -

The minifig doesn’t even come with a cape. And sure, it might be a couple years until we get another ESB Boba, but we definitely will get one. And he’ll also be included with arm printing in every set he appears in from now on, which will happen many times over the coming years. It’s the same reason I’m not worried about paying a ridiculous amount of money for the C-3PO with the dual-moulded leg from Luke’s Landspeeder, because I know it’s only a matter of time before that becomes the norm in all the sets he appears in. And since he’s C-3PO, he’ll be appearing in lots of sets. I mean it makes sense for the Ahsoka sets, since they want to release/reveal them after the episodes they were based on are released. Although it is weird that the Gunship is seemingly a September release. -

Why would anyone want to buy the Boba mech? He’s definitely going to come in sets down the line, so why waste $20 on a single minifigure and a useless mech build? -

I mean not really. The Justifier released a year and 4 months after Season 1 first aired, which would be January 2024 if applied to Andor. Plus Season 2 won’t air until Fall 2024 (or potentially later because of the writer’s strike) so they could delay the set’s release until August 1st to more closely coincide with its Season 2. I do agree that Andor isn’t as conducive to Lego sets as other shows, although I feel like the Fondor is such a perfect Star Wars ship to be made into a set that they’d be crazy not to. -

I mean they did have the Justifier, which was a post-season 1 set at least, even if the set released 5 months before season 2 did. So one set for Andor based on the first season isn’t a crazy idea, especially for such a unique ship that’s begging to be a Lego set. I agree about the figs. I don’t even care if the figures are exclusive, I just want figure based promos. The Lars Homestead Kitchen set was really wonderful. -

I mean they probably didn’t have the design of the Fondor ahead of time enough to have it come out along Season 1. Now if they don’t release a Fondor set alongside Season 2, then some complaining is warranted. -

3PO, Chewie, and R2 may not be interesting inclusions, but they are integral to recreating the medal ceremony scene. And since 12 minifigs is a crazy high amount for a set of this price regardless, if you convinced Lego to take out 3PO and R2 they wouldn’t be replaced by anyone, since 10 minifigures is still higher than the norm. So having them included is a nice bonus, not a less desirable substitution. -

The Massassi Temple looks great. A must-buy for me for sure. And I love Yoda’s Starfighter. My wallet’s going to be really hurting with these and the Ahsoka Sets coming out in the fall. -

That would be absolutely phenomenal if that were the case (because it means we likely get more minifigures in total, and more obscure ones on the Barge) but there’s no chance that’s happening. -

The weirdest part of the dual-moulded Yoda legs is that Yoda doesn’t even wear shoes. So if they were going to do dual-moulding (which feels unnecessary) the bottom of his legs should be green, not brown or nougat like they appear to be in this set. I have no idea why they aren’t the normal tan legs. -

I doubt we’ll get any sets this upcoming winter. If Rivendell is testing the waters for the market like the designers say, they’d need some time in between deciding to make a wave of sets and releasing them. So if the theme does end up returning, we’d probably get Barad-Dûr next year and more sets in January 2025 at the soonest. (Since it takes a good year and a half or more to take a set from the design stage to being on shelves.) And like others have said, I don’t know how likely it is that we end up getting playsets, as much as I really, really hope we do. It might be a safer bet for Lego to just keep putting out large D2Cs. Which is better than nothing, but still unfortunate.
