  1. This is awesome! Nice work fixing the tree. I think the sloping roof is great as-is. If you must change it, I'd copy the roof design from the new Eldorado. There is an arch that's hanging over nothing on one end, and a small issue with the water: you've mixed-and-matched rounded and wedge plates in medium azure. Either go all wedge plates like Barracuda Bay to contrast the rounded sand above, or all rounded plates to match the sand above. I love the rounded wall at the base, especially the damaged part done in dark red. I dislike the use of both white log profile bricks and dark red masonry bricks. At the scale of this set, the dark red masonry bricks are a bit large. One technique would be to soften their very rectangular shape by placing a single dark red 1x1 plate directly above or below them. All in all, this is a really great design and I love all the details like the coral under the dock, the toucan, the prison cell wall and the look of the dock. I would absolutely buy this if it were an official set.
  2. The community feedback edition is a huge improvement over the original! The green and palm tree make such a difference. Nice work!
  3. Excellent job nailing the 4+ pirates style. The Fabuland chairs and roof work surprisingly well and feel right at home despite the 15+ year difference in parts design. This really does look like one of the official sets: I hate all the same things about it that I hate about them: the minifigures, the thick baseplates and the simple building techniques. Really nice work!
  4. This is really nice. The log profile tiles are a huge upgrade. In general, this just "feels" like an official set: simple, filled with charm, lots of play features, and the parrot, shark and accessories make for some great natural storytelling. The dark blue minifigure is the best kind of upgrade, modern without losing any of what made the original great. There's room for improvement in a couple places: The clip-connected-to-clip for the oar is a bit awkward and seems like it would get knocked off. The parrot isn't actually connected, a 1x1 round plate with open stud or something similar would provide a good perch. A couple parts on the sail are connected by only one or two studs and look like they might be fragile. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the use of different angles in the leech. I might consider a cloth sail here instead. All that said, the inclusion of a sail is an excellent addition to this set. As others mentioned, the mixel joint at the bottom of the sail is very bright and "pops" compared to the rest of the set. Changing this to dark bluish gray might be all that's needed; or perhaps see if you can attach the mast with clips instead. The fishing pole is great, it's such a natural addition to the set, and so well connected. Well done!
  5. There's plenty of SNOT techniques in Eldorado. Take a look at the instructions: the entire 6277 ship is excellent, non-traditional, design. In the main structure, look at the crane, the ramp (and how it's locked in place), the ingot windows and the round front area under the cannon. Please note that I like Eldorado a lot more than most folks in this thread seem to, but I readily admit that it's a far cry from Barracuda Bay or the Lion Knight's Castle. Yes, it would feel much more alive with accessories. And it could use more interesting angles like the Lion Knight's Castle. It's not perfect. But it's much better than the BB set, which is literally just a rectangular building and a brick-built base. Both sets are made for adults, aren't they?
  6. That fortress is underwhelming to me -- I looked at the instructions and the only interesting part of the build was the wine rack in the cellar. The rest of it looks like someone's MOC from the early 2000s--all very basic techniques and pieces. To say that it's better than Eldorado doesn't give credit to the Eldorado build techniques and overall look and feel, which are unquestionably above average. Is there better stuff than Eldorado on rebrickable? You bet. Is there better stuff from Bluebrixx? No. @jodawill great detective work, however, that API is not the PAB API and none of the parts are on the PAB API yet. It makes sense (financial sense for TLG) that these soldiers will be on PAB just as the Lion Knights are. I'd bet quite a lot on it. Give it about 4 or 5 months.
  7. Oh wow, I love the amount of thought and detail you've put into this!! The custom torso and faces look great and very in-keeping with what might have been present in 1999. I would contrast this set to 6093 Ninja's Flying Fortress. Please take my comments with a grain of salt, as this is my absolute least favorite era of sets and designs: I find they lack the simple charm and clever parts usage of the late 80s sets and the intricate details of modern sets. Color: I like the use of tan for sand, and I think it's fitting with the era. There's a stray yellow corner wall brick in there, not sure if that is intentional or not, but I would add more yellow details like the early 90s Imperial sets had. My only real suggestion with the color is that this suffers from "wall-of-white" syndrome. I might suggest making a red brick pattern/sticker to put on the sloping panels. The red is a very strong color, but I think it works, and the red arch rhymes nicely with the castle wall panels with a brick window. Gray or yellow would be alternatives to consider for the railings and other details. Design: This looks pretty cool overall! Especially in the closed configuration, it looks very formidable and imposing. I would like to see a bit more sand and/or water around the base; things tend to look better when there are hints about the kind of the terrain they are in. The palm tree and rocks are great; a bit more of that would be good. I love the shape of the opening in the tallest tower (arch with the slopes under it), it feels like the design of the original Eldorado. Practicality: I only see one hinge on the side. Lots of good play features, the dock and crane are cool. The design is a bit closed in, and would be hard to play with (especially the bottom levels); it feels more like a MOC than an official set. Again, contrast to 6093 and see how open those towers are. I'd love to see what the interior of this looks like. How it fits as a 1999 set: Sets from this era tended to feature thick bases, look at the Ninja and Rock Raiders sets. I don't like those, but if you're going for 1999 period accuracy... Also, I think you might be able to capture the feeling you're going for here with less. If you cut out four of the sloping panels from the length of the set (2 from the front and 2 from the back in closed configuration), it would still having the imposing look but would be smaller overall and more visually interesting to look at. Overall, this looks great and I'd love to see more!
  8. This latest update is fantastic and quite consistent with the rest of the style of the build. I'm saddened to lose those amazing oval windows, but yes, it really does feel like an official set, and a great homage to an 80s pirate set now. Great work!
  9. Yeah, it would be neat (and it's kind of a shame that the remake tosses that pattern out the, uh, window) but that technique would remove the excellent use of the inverted curves forming the bottom of an oval window. It's not something I've seen before, and I *really* like the look of it.
  10. This is so much better than the original! Love the curved back. Easily the best ship in this contest so far, maybe the best entry. I struggle to find things to complain about here -- the only thing that I notice is the cannon, there are a lot of designs for small brick-built canons that are smoother than what you've got here, I would swap it out for one of those. That sharpied flag is quite creative, too. I am generally not one for modifying pieces, but it looks fantastic.
  11. Those windows are amazing! Your use of color (dark on the bottom, light on the top, as well as balancing the overall color palette) is the best I've seen in this contest. I would go the other direction with this: rather than making the windows square (which is way worse that the curved ones you originally had), make the area under the cannon rounded. It would contrast very nicely with the rough/square rocks. Also, very nice work matching the design language of the new Eldorado. Excellent job overall!
  12. Nice, the fish drying rack is the best part of this build. Extremely simple and clever! I also love the treasure and how the ground slopes up around it. Not sure the yellow bedding works when contrasted against the tan sand, I would go with white, red, or blue for that. The angle of the cannon also bothers me, I suspect this is a "love-it-or-hate-it" thing. I don't feel like a cannon with only two wheels would feature in an official set. The tree is really nice, especially the angled leaf at the bottom to hide the technic hole. I would like to see dark green leaves instead of bright light green leaves on the tree, but again, that may be a personal preference thing. The walls, angles, and overall look and feel of this are excellent, and really feel like what you'd find in an official set. Excellent work!
  13. The overall look and feel are top notch! This would fit right in with @SleeplessNight's Lagoon Lockup Revisited. I am not sure if I like the use of gold in the roof or not. If I think too much about it, I dislike it, but it fits so nicely with the overall color palette you've used here that I think I'm OK with it. I like the round balcony extending over the water, the greebling on the buildings, the balance of plants and structures, and my favorite bit is the beggar with the accordion. To be honest, I am struggling to find faults with it, but there are a couple things: Pirates are a bit too late in history, and on the wrong continent, for a half-timber building The dock looks a bit repetitive. I might break it up a bit -- perhaps a crane, or a section extending outwards, to break up the long smooth line of brown There's a bit of sand that extends over the edge of the base, extend the base around it The color palette here is nice, but it's a bit dull -- a red and blue canopy like Lagoon Lock-up had would really add some pop and visual interest. Or, place a palm tree or two in between two buildings, being careful not to block too much of the scene. Follow the rule of thirds. Overall this is a really great entry, excellent work!
  14. I too would like to see more pictures before giving too much feedback, but: You have set yourself up for quite a challenge, recreating one of the most-loved pirate sets of all time. This looks like a very nice build full of great details. Gesso, or starch, and iron your sails -- it'll do a lot for the presentation. I like the tumblehome, blue and gold color scheme, and overall look of the ship. But, both the fore and aft-castles are too square, and the back suffers from a "wall of blue" appearance. A ladder on the side, or some additional cannons, would be excellent. Can't wait to see more!
  15. That fire looks so good now! The shape is better now; a lot more interesting than it was. If you're experimenting with different designs, why not try a plate-built design with dark tan on the bottom (for wet sand)? I know it's very "Ray the Castaway", but the rest of your build is different, and two plates of height would fit the scale of the island quite nicely, and allow much greater detail.
  16. You can, but 1) it makes you a bad person and 2) I've heard that Lego tracks this, and if you do it more than once they will refuse your return.
  17. Lion Knight's Castle did not sell out, they were good about limiting it to one copy per customer at first. And, what's the worse case scenario here? You don't buy right away and have to wait a couple more weeks for it to come back in stock? If you buy immediately, you pay full price and get no Blacktron GWP? I'm waiting for sure.
  18. Yeah, as I said, a lot of this is personal preference for sure. Really great work overall, I know how hard it can be to build at this scale!
  19. Nice work! I have some suggestions: The rightmost 1/4 of the set is empty inside and serves no real purpose. I would remove it entirely and make the set smaller overall. Stick to the rule of thirds when redesigning it. This goes for the placement of the red bricks, too -- they're all near the bottom or the top and they should be 1/3 of the way up the wall. The wedge corners (3x3 modified facet) bricks don't really fit. It's mostly the transition from the square bottom level to the angled top level that's awkward. If you must have the top be different, perhaps see how rounded bricks would look? There needs to be a palm tree to break up the wall of white and soften things a bit. I would like to see some kind of water to add color and contrast against the sand and wall (I think I had this same criticism about another of your builds, so it may be a stylistic preference). It doesn't look like there's an easy way to remove the jail cell door. I'd add a handle or something. I miss the spring action from Sheriff's Lock-Up, a play feature like that would be cool although dynamite doesn't really fit with pirates. There's too many white masonry bricks used here, IMHO. Less is more, get rid of at least half of them and the wall would be a lot cleaner. Perhaps even get rid of all of them -- Eldorado has barely any greebling except for the parts where the red bricks are exposed. Overall, this is very good and I would probably buy it as-is if it were a set.
  20. This is a neat little build. Version 2 is an improvement over version 1, although I'm not sure I like the sand -- it adds very little to the build. And often, less is more. You've set yourself up for a challenge trying to recreate and update a set with less than 50 bricks in it. Nice work overall on capturing the spirit of the original, and I hope you'll continue to make more MOCs!
  21. Leave these together for sure. Top tier work, this is my favorite entry in this contest so far. Others have mentioned the floating logs on the fire, fix that for sure. The slope on the beach doesn't bother me, if you used plates instead, people would call this a rip-off of Ray the Castaway. But, if you wanted to switch to plates: medium azure water, dark tan for wet sand, and light tan for the beach would look great. I like the fish stick, it's a great touch and feels like something you'd find in a official set. The island is a bit too round (when viewed top down), I'd like it more if it was elongated like a sand bar or more oddly shaped like the original. This is a very minor complaint, it's OK as is. I like the palm leaf over the gun as others have mentioned. I think there is enough green here already, the colors are quire well balanced. Do you need to remove the small foliage to access the treasure? If so, perhaps put a 1x1 technic brick into the rocks and attach the leaf to a flick missile (part 61184), this would allow you to rotate it freely, and would hold it more securely in place. Frogs don't live in salt water. (I have this same complaint about Barracuda Bay...) You may have noticed that all my suggestions relate to the island: that's because the raft is flawless. I usually don't like brick built sails, but in this case, they look fine. Truly amazing work, I love the colors and updated design.
  22. I love this, it's so fun and full of great details! I do have a few suggestions: There's too many different plant/flower types around. In a build this size, I would limit it to just one (in addition to the palm tree). The canopy is already providing red and white, so you really don't need flowers at all. I would limit the leaves and vines to just one or two types as well. The campfire doesn't look like it would be easy to cook on, and the flames should probably point the same way. They need a rat or something roasting over the fire. The canopy is so great. Just everything about it, from the tooth bricks on the edge, the rounded part, the supports, it's the best part of this build. But I wish it matched the colors of the Lagoon Lock-up canopy (blue and red) instead of being red and white. Some dark tan for wet sand and medium azure water plates would be great. I like the broken wall, but it looks fragile, and I don't see why an actively maintained post would have a new, shiny, canopy but old, run down walls. The middle section at an angle is great, but I would swap out the cheese wedge for a 1x1 cone -- a rounded column shouldn't break down into a triangle, should it? No flag? I really like what you've accomplished with such a small build. The last picture with the passed out captain and the partying soldier is so great, exactly what the original set was going for!
  23. This is a unique build. It really does feel like an official set from the 2015 pirates series -- and that is a double edged sword. The design language used here is spot on, the colors, techniques, and parts usage all feel right at home with the 2015 pirates. My issue with this is the same as I have with the official sets: it's just a bit too haphazard with no clear defining purpose. The waterfall (?) is a great example of this: it's clever, but doesn't fit with the rest of the set at all. Where does it come from? Why is it dark blue instead of matching the water (or, better yet being white/clear like a real waterfall)? It's too dark and doesn't stand out against the rock work. The rocks should really be dark gray on the bottom, light gray higher up. This isn't your fault, the official sets are like this too, but it still bothers me. The staircase is an awkward mix of colors -- I'd like to see it either be stone-only, or wood-only, and make sure to cover all the studs on your SNOT 1x4 brick (use a 1x4 slope instead of 1x3). But it's an interesting technique used, and I don't think I've seen it before. Apart from the color, it's quite clever. Add a palm tree somewhere to soften things, right now you have only rock and shipwreck, and it's almost all pretty dark colors and jagged edges. A palm tree and a parrot would add some much needed color and texture. You have some foliage here and there, which is great, but it's all low down near the water line. It looks like it would be fragile to pick up and move around - the plant leaves would get broken off and the hinge plates wouldn't hold up. Either reinforce those, or make the modules smaller. There's beach all the way to the left, but there's also beach on the original set that this is an expansion for. That feels a bit "off", especially if this is supposed to extend into deep water for the Brick Bounty to dock at. I do really like the crane and cage, and overall there's a lot of good stuff going on here. Again, you captured the 2015 aesthetic quite nicely!
  24. This is excellent, it captures the charm of the original theme quite well! I really dig the secret gold brick, such a fun touch. I have a couple suggestions: There's a lip/offset on either side where the sand bank moves over a stud. It's quite jarring in an otherwise smooth and very well designed little island. The rocks are all flat (which is fine) but then there's little 1x1 round plates. Those plates don't fit with the rest of the rocks, IMHO. I'd remove them or maybe put a crab or some seaweed there (Eldorado uses dark green 1x1 tiles with clip, for example) Others have mentioned the tree front and center -- I take 3 specific issues with it: first, it's in the foreground, blocking view and play to the rest of the set. Second, it's dead center, offset a bit would be much nicer. Follow the rule of thirds. Third, there's two tress in this build, good design says there should be either one, three or five trees. It sounds dumb until you actually start following it, then it's an essential rule to follow. A build this size should really just have a single tree. The foliage is too thick and uses too many bricks. There's multiple leaf and flower types on a single plant, and there's probably 20 parts there when much fewer parts could accomplish the same effect. Perhaps try placing a large foliage piece with 3 flowers stuck in it? Less is often more. It would be amazing if pulling the tree revealed the treasure. 70411 has a mechanism like this (it's really the only good part of that set...) All in all, this is quite a nice design that I really like!
  25. As others have said, this is a really, really nice build. Some minor nitpicks: I dislike the brick built sails, the jib is held in place by a single stud, so it would be very unstable. A chain shouldn't be used as rigging, either. That said, I do like the mast and gaff design. There is too much greebling for the scale of the boat, and there isn't any sort of pattern to it -- there's flexible tubing up front, unicorn horns on the back, spyglass railing posts on the sides, a lightsabre bar on the top of the ladder, cones on the aft rail, and more -- pick any two or three of these and repeat their usage, and it would look a lot less cluttered and more intentional. For example, the "Plant Stem, Curved with 2 Thorns and 2 Swirls" would be a great front railing, and it would fit with the use of the same piece over the cabin windows. The ship could use a figurehead. I dislike the use of both gold and yellow, they are too similar and clash. Barracuda Bay uses almost all yellow with just a couple of gold accents, but it would be fine to do all gold. The rudder is too large (both too thick and too long) and, as others pointed out, not securely attached. There's a large flag at the top but no colors on the back? Even if there's no space for colors, the use of a small flag up top would fit this scale of ship better. The fore and aft-castles are a bit too high relative to the width of the ship, I would lower them by a stud. Most of these are really personal preference, this is a fantastic build. I've never been able to build anything this small and have it look presentable, so great work!
