LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
thebricksbear replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Do we think the explosion of SW Rebels popularity is enough to warrant a new set(s)? I know there's allegedly a version of the ghost with characters from Ahsoka coming, but I'd love to see sets around the show again. I hope thats not impossible given we still get Clone Wars sets. -
Disney Properties 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

The last two sets leaked an hour or so ago. One is a bunch of small character builds including lumiere and cogsworth, the two pocahontas animals, two moana animals, and two nemo animals. The other is a harry potter-esque buildable objects set with a VHS, poisonous apple, and some books. The builds look p dumb IMO but it comes with four villain figs: evil queen as the old witch, jafar as a genie, maleficent (presumably with the updated bottom) and gaston. So Gaston's probably not in the castle. -

Centrico you're one of my fav members here, because I LOVE the idea that EB is being used as a hub for conversation between people that couldn't and wouldn't otherwise communicate. It's awesome. I'm starting to get a little worried Adam Warlock prices aren't going to drop and he'll get the status of one of those horrible Star Wars figs that only ever show up in one set and remain $50+. I reeeeallly don't want to buy that terrible Guardians set but... -

Interesting idea, but there's no way. Allegedly there's already contracts for tons of legacy actors to come back- Toby, the Xmen, etc... Not to mention the multiverse is Deadpool's path to the MCU. Kang may get recast but there's no way they scrap Kang Dynasty or more importantly Secret Wars. -

I was hesitant to post this, but since I'm now only missing Tiana and Red Queen, I'll safely say that the whole Target fiasco is true, down to the incorrect DCPI numbers. I'd gone and got a bunch 2 times on the weekend after reading karrit's comments, and when I went back the third time, someone had gone and cleaned the ENTIRE stock out. They'd returned everything by yesteday though, so I got a bunch more and will return the extras this week and probably BL the last two. CMF hunting is A LOT more fun when you're not fighting the whole city for stock, so I'm grateful they came out early lol. -

My honest guess is that theyre buildable figs. I didnt realize we had confirmation that the minifig scale Maleficent dragon with Prince Philip, and the buildable Donald and Simba models were postponed, but Donald and Simba wouldnt have surprised me for those $120-130 sets -

I'd love to know as well... only one Target near me puts sets out ahead of releases and the registers have stopped me every time. Ive seen some reports of people getting by it but no explanations to how. -

I think the Iron Man fig is perfect. The dictionary is a must buy for Iron Man collectors but not a character that casual lego fans cant get elsewhere (like Rita Skeeter). -

I edited out my last response to one of your comments because I didn't want to start an argument, but this is nonsense. It's obvious to everyone who's reading your posts what you're trying to say, so why hide it? Disney and Lego BOTH have massive diversity initiatives, and they're not going away. Regardless, your example is completely anecdotal and you're making up this absurd narrative to pretend Disney/Lego are hurting because they're putting characters in their properties you don't like? If you don't like the set, say your piece and move on. Keep your politics to yourself. Is it failing? Star Wars' Disney+ shows are massively popular. People are claiming Marvel is in a downturn, but meanwhile its Disney+ shows are among the highest streamed years after they've released now, and even without an Avengers or Spiderman entry, all of the movies are still making comparable box office numbers to what they were before covid. Disregarding the fact that we're in a recession, and the Disney 100 promotions are a massive hit, especially with Lego, Disney's also launching Lorcana in the summer, and Marvel Snap has been the #1 mobile game for months. As you said, there's been some baffling ideas (Lightyear), but most of the bad press is purely online chatter and doesn't line up with how successful their media has actually been. I really think the Disney 100 sets aren't temporary and that we'll see more minifig lego presence in 2024~. There's little reason to panic about this or that princess missing when we *know* there are a half dozen sets from leaks without dates or prices. -

Blue Kang's inclusion is the fig that makes me doubt its legitimacy. It's very odd that a movie villain would show up, unless Loki S2 marries one of the three versions of Kang with Quantumania's "Conqueror." This would be the only 'movie' character in two waves of D+ figs otherwise. -

I agree, but there's already a child sized/priced set [book] for the movie. -

You're putting impossible expectations on this movie and on lego. Do you honestly care whether DIsney promotes it at the Oscars? Why? Unless Disney markets it absolutely flawlessly and nails every toy and every price, people are going to chew it to shreds. Young kids now are more exposed to these adaptations than to the 'classic' versions, so we shouldn't be surprised Disney wants to market them as something other than a vehicle to sell classic toys. Buy the CMF figs if you want the classics. The only thing I really see wrong with this set is how expensive it is. -

For kids growing up now, many of the remakes ARE the definitive version. I can see why they wouldnt resonate with adults that grew up with the originals, but I'm not shitting on kids that love the remakes. The set looks great to me. -

Echoing everybody here. Movie looks awesome and way better than I think anybody expected. I'd love to get figs of the villain and the three heroes, but my expectation is just the three at it's price point. -

Yea, BL's take is miniscule, and might be nothing at all. My point wasn't that they make money off of those transactions, its that those figs being in high demand are good for the sales for sets with new versions. Somebody mentioned Rex- I'd bet half of the sales of that massive walker thing are just due to his inclusion (I don't know SW well, don't crucify me). The rest of the figs are throwaway. Same thing with the blue cowboy guy from Clone Wars and Mandalorian that has a big set in retail right now. Maybe Lego drops these into smaller sets in the future because IIRC in the last year or two they've gotten some criticism for doing this, but from a business perspective, having 'rare' minifigs is good for driving more profitable sets -

Yes- looks like I left out that this is exactly what I meant. Lego doesnt want to make extremely desirable figures available to casual consumers. So for an Antman movie, there's little reason to put extremely sought after characters in a $30 set. -
Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
thebricksbear replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is actually probably the reason. We know via bricklink, Lego is involved in the secondary market, and there IS genuine benefit to TLG to have figs reach high prices (Zeb, Amidala, Iron Patriot, Drax). That could be what we're seeing here- Lego being cautious about printing characters that lessen the value. Obviously this cant be the *only* reason for skipping properties, however. -

Be patient. The set came out a week ago and like you said, everybody wants it ONLY for his fig. Prices will drop, but FOMO always spikes prices after release. There's only 3 US listings currently, that will change. -

I've seen customs do this... I don't hate it but agree with whomever said it's a CMF and they can do a little better, especially for a character who should appear in several sets in the next few years -

I was just using internet slang. I'm predicting Kang's helmet will be one of the new Iron Man helmets with his blue face printed on the front. I think it's a terrible idea. I guess I'm not too bothered by the NWH minifig numbers changing, though it would have been nice to get a Ned fig. My biggest gripe is the price. -

Pocahontas's hair from the Disney CMF in May will be in a minidoll set in June. I think we can probably put to bed CMF exclusivity. If anything, we can still be thankful that the CMF's seem to drive new molds, regardless of whether they're exclusive.
