PF Wiring Question
1974 replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's PWM, you can hear the whining easliy. You need PWM to have some proper torque -
200mA is not really enough Philo measured the 9V train motor : http://philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm No load = 80mA Normal load = 380mA Stall = 950mA The original transformer is specced at 10VAC/7VA = 700mA. But that is only in a purely resistive load. With a fullwave capacitor load, like the train speed regulator, a maximum output DC current is about 60%, so there's only 400mA actual juice to the motor Just about enough to make all the original 9V LEGO trains + cars go nicely on a flat track With heavier trains, many cars and/or more motors, you need something beefier

So, much like my sloppy HTML/BASIC coding then

Sarcasm related to LEGO Technic
1974 replied to PhyBuilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
"This modern studless/panel stuff really looks much better than CT" (<-Classic Technic) "If I use 8 XLs, 500 gears and third party wheels, it's gonna be better than anything proper RC" "This chopper/plane IS gonan fly, I tell ya!" "I never play with my Technic figs" -
PF Wiring Question
1974 replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Schematic tells everything. TLG choose a 4 wire system throughout the whole PF system, this simplifies production Also, with having seperate powerlines and PWM lines you can have motors with active electronic inside, like the servo. Which means they thought about the servo many years ago when they made the blueprints for PF Four wires does make everything more bulky though and PF in genral is nowher near as flexible as the old 9V system. But with that system it would be difficult/expensive to have modulation/control on top of a 2 wire power scheme TLG probably did just that when they made reciever prototypes, I guess .. I could also see the PF system used for other active devices (like the servo). Could be IR controlled sound and light devices. Those parts would have active electronics inside and with the IR reciever one could control different sounds/light patters/colours etc .. -
No, you forgot the squareroot .. It's AC * 1,41 - (0,65+0,65) = DC (in theory only though, 'causeyou'd need an infinitely large capacitor) So 9VAC would indded work as the LM317 only needs 1,25V above Vout to work Anyway, the transformer is clearly labeled 10VAC 7VA
-
I run my 12V motors from a 9V batterybox through the old RC system (I've taken the electronics out of the large trainbases) Works well, drives fast enough for me. I only have a 7727 type and small diesel shunter, but it's a joy to watch the rods move on those oldie red motors
-
Yeah, 9VAC - sorry
-
That is just an adapter, not a voltage converter! You can use a step up/down (auto)transformer but they cost as much (or more) than a proper 9VDC psu
-
Well, eventually I will sort the remaining lot into three piles .. one for the trash, one for me to keep and the rest off to my BL shop. In the end it means that I've gotten the train, all those sets and nice pile of bricks not only for free but will actually make some money out of it Would probably have cost me about 4-500EUR to purchase that lot on BL ;) Yeah, it's worth it (And I _like_ sorting out bricks, it's sooo zen)
-
Not ebay, but a local ad : I bought a bulk lot to get a 9V train (4564). I paid the going price and got thrown in about 40 straights, 20 curves and four switch tracks Also, the seller had a 'box of loose bricks' I could have as well That included Eldorado Fortress, BlackTron Secret Message Base, Imperial Inspection (sold that and that paid for the whole deal!), loads of HP (including the train), small pirate stuff, city/town, SW and about 5000 bricks I haven't really gone through .. Not too bad
-
I told you I was right Not too fond of that Mærsk light and Duplo train though, but good thing there _is_ trains being made again! Looks like a decent station though
-
TLG have in fact made a part very similar to this : And I've also seen a clone version at Brickset's forum .. Tyco perhaps? I don't really miss new parts, but it's really frustrating when a rather common part is only available in a few specific colours Cheers, Ole

RC Buggy motors Cheap?
1974 replied to NXT45's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I get them from cheap RC sets found in local ads (and sell them not so cheaply at BL ) Got one a few weeks ago for 12EUR, bad looking, missing parts, broken remote but two nice motors .. -
I'll upload them again, sorry! I'm also getting a new bunch of odd parts next week
-
I know you too well, it'll take days, weeks! If I had a gable in say xxxx colour would you mary me? Okay, enough for tonite folks! Later, LEGO nerds ..
-
Read my posts .. All those parts are NOT in any sets, they're prototype parts! And they're not trans-yellow unfortunally, they're that ugly 'anti-freeze' trans neon-green (CP5670 mind your pulse!) And, yes, those minifig hands+arm are quite interesting. They were made at least 13 years before JEK-14 Time for some Blacktron 3? Set 6590, never to return Edit : There may be more parts that I have shown that are actually common, if so, let me know. I don't have half the brains that Gary has
-
Lots of things/MOCs, they're just bricks you know I build mostly Classic Space (and some Castle/Train/Town stuff too), so there's a lot of neat parts there for me to MOC with This is not an envy competition. I just wanted to let you nerds see those parts as I like to see similar parts myself It's all cool. It's all LEGO. We like

Yes, Huw really over did this time. Suttleness (<- is that a word) is what you do in a nerdy community. He could perhaps have sold that info to major papers/news outlets, but that shlt don't fly here ;) -
Oh, I forgot all my trans neon-green parts (CP5670 stay cool!) and some other stuff : Including that nice military olive colour (t's an old brown plate next to it) Google all you want, I'm done with you
-
Ok, here it goes : Have fun! A bit more :
-
Pttff.. I have thousands of those wheels! NOT, haha Ok, give a few minutes and I'll upload a lotta neat parts

New grays actually closer to neutral gray than the old ones?
1974 replied to Xfing's topic in General LEGO Discussion
But the other colours are not neutral, they're warm too! I read a great post on lugnet years ago about that subject (comments from a graphic designer as well) I'll see if I can dig it up ... -
Gerhard, my friend, I have said all I can say about this in public. What good would it do to anyone if I name the person? (Ok, TLG is probably monitoring this and I'll get black helicopters very soon, haha) Zero, that is What I can say, much so anyones speculation, I have NO special contact with TLG - at all! I just happened to run into this person selling bricks and struck up a friendship. I will _not_ give out any more details! Thanx for another lecture, you are wasted doing this, you should have been a professor teaching archeology in a university! I'll see if I can find some more funny pics if you like ...

1974 replied to Xfing's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm quite the opposite Bluish looks cheap, cold and clonish (just take a look at the clones, you'll see) - I'll have nothing of that in my MOCs! Old grey actually blends with the natural 'warmness' of the other colours. Old grey/dark grey actually have the same colour balance as the rest of TLGs normal colours I build mostly Classic Castle and Space and that shiny cold look don't work. At all .. imho, that is
