Lego space guys red, blue.black and yellow
1974 replied to Chris1594's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Nope, red and white came first in 1978. Then yellow in 1982 and finally blue and black in 1984 But I do agree that Benny should been white or red (red, imho) Yeah, but there's was no blue CS figs with any CS blue/grey/trans-yellow spaceship back then Only yhing that comes close is the 6971 base No need to dumb it down, a red minifig would have been better, I think -
Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
1974 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
But it's not an 'improvement', it's just flingin' random parts together. Sure, you got a lot of blue and trans-yellow, boosters and whatnot. But it takes more to excite an old spacenut. And there is quite a lot of them out there, you know. I recently sold a MISB 6980 for 300EUR. It was gone in a few minuttes after I put on my BL shop. I could probaly have gotten 500EUR if I've waited a few weeks .. or maybe even more. All the 928s I've sold at a decent price were gone fast as well If TLG put out a re-issue 928 (in the true colours, I might add!), it will fly off so fast that TLG won't have time to say 'wtf' But they won't. CS is not coming back. And BL prices of CS sets reflects that I'm fine that it exists. This wil draw even more people to CS, i like that . But CS is limited and that is bad for buyers, good for sellers (and NO, I don't have anymore CS to sell - good thing I got my sets before this 'bubble', or whatever) Anyway, I'm gonna pick up a bunch at a local sale tomorrow, might even build one so I can 'nanana, crappy shit, old fart is right'. But that will only be in my mind, I know It's cool, it's LEGO. Nice that they did this set, wonderfull movie, but CS it's not. It's like that Ferrari from Miami Vice. Close, but no cigar- 228 replies

AOW, all the standard Technic parts ; black axles, old grey bushings and pins, standard gears and holed bricks, foam tires etc are from 1977. The only joker is the wheel clever SNIPE pointed out (and it's also the only part carried over from the old pre 1977 theme to the current one (well, black axles/holed bricks are still current, but that's about it)) .. I think. Can you find another joker, SNIPE? Also SNIPE, no point in mentioning any more old grey parts/Technic bits as they're all usefull .. at least to me The only ultra common part that wasn't part of the 1977 lineup is this, btw : In old grey of course! Pulleys, difs, shock absorbers, 12t bevels, half pins and toothed connectors came shortly after that .. This info is very easily available at Blackbird's constantly opdated Technicopedia (Or more cumbersomely at Bricklink) I dig this thread, more talk please! Cheers, Ole

Classic Space boxart, high quality / high resolution?
1974 replied to LegoFjotten's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Quite a few here in decent resolution : http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=76995 Cheers, Ole -
All modern Technic parts are from 1977, but there where axles, bushes, gears, chains and that wonderfull 2x4 multiholed brick from around 1970 Those gears are very nice! Strong and great for chaindriven wheels. Love sets like this : But these sets where not released in the US? They had Samsonite over there with different gears/sets, like this : Going wayyy back to 1965

Would have looked much better if that ugly nose wasn't brickbuild Very nice indeed! (but so are all your creations). It also have the look of a subway/Metro/U-bahn type of train Yeah, this would sell like hotcakes!
-
Zephyr, it looks like a 4wide train on top of a 6wide chassis Since it's 9V you don't have to hide the ugly batterybox/IR reciever, so there's no need for the 6178 trick You can use doors/hatches and make a decent (fake) motor Nice train anyway, looks very LEGO'ish. My kinda style

There's no need for the LEDs to run at more than 5-10mA, so up the resistor a factor 2 to 4. They'll last decades that way. Note, some LEDs are low power types (1-2mA) and will blow up with a 560-2k resistor You might also think about joining a local LUG and ask if there are members who wants to sell 12V parts. LEGO nerds tend to not make (loads) of money of other LEGO nerds Maybe you get lucky and find a member who wants to offload a 12V collection and get into PF. I sold all PF and went back to 4,5/9/12V, so I know it happens (sold +500 track pieces for less than half the going rate) Cheers, Ole

Thank you Steinkopf for that nice history lesson I just want to add that the reason that LEGO train tracks (and also other model trains) have such tight curvature is the very simply that most people don't have the room for something more realistic TLG would sell just about zero trains if a circle of tracks would be 4m/12feet in diameter Some people build the most stunning super large steamers but they do look completely bonkers going round in curves. Good thing new tracks are comming out

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

Me. Don't like it all. I think it's poorly designed. Could buy hundreds of them if I needed (will probably buy a dozen of them but that's for parting out in my BL shop) I've had quite some time to give it my thoughts as I have known about this set for a long time. I confirmed/broke the rumour here, remember? I'm a huge CS nut, but this is not CS. It's a sticker infested Technified butt ugly p.o.s with a broken minifig In my opinion that is, solitary as it may be Cheers, Ole- 228 replies

For Starwars sets you need to supply the code on the back of the instruction manual(s)

Sounds like you're talking about that train nose again I just think it's real sad that to get bricks you must buy an 'expert' set. And it's the same with the Duplofication of City/airplanes Anyway, I'm also tired of those type of passengercars, slapping a big roof piece over some trans panels. They've done that too often now They have almost bankrupted themselves. Twice. (Actually, one time they did go bust) They've launched very dubious themes and lost boatloads of money on activities indirectly related to brick manufacturing They have exchanged many keyfigures in their leadership There's loads of Lone Ranger/Chima sets just collecting dust at 50% discount worldwide There's no Technics in the US So no, they _quite_ often don't know what they're doing

Yeah, forgot about HE, doh! Maybe that's an indicator that it's not selling as expected? There's really no need to use 6 of those windows in that turtle set (they're flanking the center stair, six on each side, they could have used anything here, even a stack of 3004s as they're almost impossbiel to see. Also quite sure they're not in the TV series/cartoon/movie) Oh, but they are making cars almost like that :
-
Didn't it first come in the SP3 base? There's train windows in a new weird set, that really serves no function (it could have been panels), that is nice of TLG Edit : It's this one. Can you spot the SIX 4035 1 x 2 x3 black windows (without cheating)? I'm also convinced that the green doors and frame in the container from 9486 are put in just for us trainfans : But they are of course doing no good at just putting the black RIGHT train door in the Town Square and not a left one also I'd _really_ like some 4181/82s in new colours as the mold obviously isn't buried under the parking lot next to the monorail .. or maybe the LEFT one is?
