They do? What do they know? Here's a direct quote from Mark Stafford in 2012 (well, I guess he _is_ a fan too!) who probably knows what he's talking about : " .. raising $2,000,000 dollars for 20 molds to resurrect the old monorail parts, this is seriously underestimating mold costs at the precision required for LEGO elements .. " So, yeah molds are somewhat expensive (And yes, I forgot the TLR train also used the big wheels) And since TLG wants so hard to kill that grey market, they could just offer them for sale for pennies. But they don't. What goes on at TLG HQ really boggles the mind Those at the top should really log on to BL, BS, Ebay and whatnot, imnsho But then again, they're not entirely made out of Playmobil. I wouldn't be all that surprised to see a Friends set with 8 tan train windows in 2015 (Friends sets have a lot going for them anyway, I was quite surprised to see they took up a full 8 pages in the new catalogue, loads of neat sets I think) Just like they put 6 black train windows in a Turtle set lately for no good reason ('cept they're in production due to HE) .. and a train door in the Town square There is hope, our favourite TLG designers _might_ just actually be listening to us

Allright, how about making a big wing with whatever plastic sails are available, framed with 75cXX rigid hoses and a few connectors powered by a windup motor and that large propeller? _Maybe_ that could sustain flight? Does air float in space btw?- 157 replies

Back to what might be the next Creator train .. Here's what _I_ like to see : I'd luv a big honkin' 30's electric monster Something like the american Milwaukee EP-2 or the italian FS Class E.428 or my favourite, the swiss crocodile Something big, fat, electric with big wheels, perhaps an articulated body? Would be nice if was brown to boot, INCLUDING proper doors

Yes, but that statement is years old as you well know. AFOL buying have exploded since then EN (with the TS train) had to pay for that large wheel mold, which we know runs in the trillions. HE is standard parts (allthough a couple are printed, but I'm not sure that is all that costly) EN was actually pretty cheap compared to something like the IF from the same period The 7740 had two different seperate rolling stock available (SF too, I think but I'm not a 9V guy), thus increasing development costs The rolling stock for the EN could have been exactly the same and would have cost very little in extra boxes/manuals and could probably have sold decently at 200/250UK£ each What do they go for at evilbay?

True that. Can't seem to find helium at BL though Edit : 'Cept _hot_ air of course. But that's not possbile with LEGO either- 157 replies

Blimps are manuverable, hence the PF If I get the air from Billund, is it LEGO enough for ya? With the right balance between balloons/air and powered propellers it shoud be able to lift, fly, steer and land I mean it's not like the Hindenburg failed- 157 replies

Scale/price was all over the place when techfigs where in production and there where many sets not with techfigs at the same time, so that argument is bunk When I was a kid we _played_ the shit out of our Technic sets/MOCs. Didn't matter if there was techfigs or not (but we did luv them for sure) DrJB, the majority of Technic wheels/tires have been retired, there's actually not that many in current production (some are used in System sets mostly anyway) When TLG does something wierd that makes no sense, it's because they have gone 'focusgroup' on us again, sigh And TLG is never (cough cough, Galidor, Universe, themeparks, greys, double bankruptcy, multiple changes in board direction etc ad nauseam ) wrong!

Flight using Lego

I'd rather get hit by my Hotshot (=proper RC car) in the foot than a 150km/h RC propeller plane in the head Only thing that might be worse than that would be standing in the path of that supersonic hamster *** So, where's that flying LEGO plane then? Come on sports, it's just me that's a Debbie Downer. It's doable, you know it is! Let's see that mighty 5292 prove me wrong- 157 replies

Flight using Lego
1974 replied to anton1678's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Then I have succeded! I have brought a pair of LEGO motors on a 737 flight This discussion is made of 100% useless (and the previous one and the one before, sigh) It's very easy (if you have the chops and I think Blakbird allready did) to calculate the mechanical power output of a given motor versus weight versus rpm versus blade lift versus etc to see if it's even remotely possbile to achive flight Those equations must be +100 years old now? And please none of this, 'it's only impossible if you say it is' .. Try holding your breath for four hours or maybe run naked on the moon and let me know how that worked out for you This isn't 1880. I'm quite sure back then there where smart folks who DID foresee that we'd achive powered flight WHEN the right engine came along And lastly even if you did make a LEGO motor fly with non LEGO battery, propeller, wings and whatnot, what exactly have you achived? In the grand scheme of doing cool things with LEGO this is about as silly as that giant "LEGO" pneumatic car, pointless and _not_ LEGO Futile, it's futile man Edit : spelling mistakes etc ..- 157 replies

I've switched to a combination of 9V metalrails and the old RC system, no more PF here Some trains use the integrated RC reciever/battery base but in general I take out the RC PCB and use it with a 9V battery. That is a very compact solution (I also use this with my monorails) Works very nicely with the old black/red 12V motors, piston-rods ftw The old system has two LED IR recievers making it possible to get a much better recepetion Works for me

Your Best Technic Bargains
1974 replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, BL says 458USD for a new one. I like buying used ones for less than a hundred and then sell the electronics at BL for 3x that -
I was gonna pull a joke like that, but mine wasn't that good Well played sir

No, they don't I'ts only the current ones that do ..

Yes, it's not the PWM freq that is much higher than this (above our hearing range) My Tamiya RC car actually uses it's motor (when it's NOT running) as a 'loudspeaker' / soundtransducer giving a beeping signal when there's no contact to the remote control. Pretty neat I still miss the deep roar from a 40L 16 cylinders combustion engine (yes there' PWM too in those trains) though ..
-
While the sound comes from the motor, it's NOT the motor that's generating it. So, if you hear a standard 9V motor making that sound it's because it's controlled by PF. A standard 9V motor on metal tracks is controlled by a non-PWM (linear) regulator and does not whine. Nor does 4,5V/12V (both grey and blue) when used with they apropriate controller Cheers, Ole

That's right, I forgot those obscure minifig packs! (I even have 0016) I wonder where they were relased? They didn't feature in any normal catalogue and I've never heard of anyone finding them in the wild .. And why did TLG wait three years to put them in normal sets? Jens Nygaard probably knows Edit : There's a rather interesting post from the ever so knowledgeable Todd Lehman about these minfic packs : http://news.lugnet.com/space/?n=1554&t=i&v=a So, it's a Samsonite thing! And while the artwork is copyrighted in 1978 (not 1979 as listed at brickset.com) there's speculation that 0014 wasn't released before 1982 (as stated at bricklink.com) Funny, that it's Huw starting that thread Hmm ..
