Technic General Discussion
gyenesvi replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Interesting line of thought, though I am not sure that would happen. First, RB is not only B models, many models are not alternates. Second, but most importantly, the quality of builds. Currently, there is no quality check of builds and instructions, and I guess many of them are not up to TLG's standards. If they were to promote alternate models, they'd probably want to check their quality first, and that would put quite some amount of burden on them, which they might not want to afford. Also, alternate models are coming out continuously for a set, so they could not just pick 1-2 good ones for each set that easily, as there is no set development window for them, and continuously monitoring them would be quite a burden I guess. I totally agree that most of these are not really visible to the bigger public, which is a pity. -
That B model was epic. I did not own the set, but attempted to build that B model several times. Same with 8868 B model. Back then they made a lot of sense. But the last B model I built was that of 42070, which was pretty lame. Having that said, I am not sure I miss B models that much today. I build C models anyway :)

[TC26] Large scale snowmobile

Curiously following this, because this would have been my idea as well (maybe that's what's closest to an off-roader :) ) but I am not pursuing it due to lack of time.. Interested in the mechanics of the suspension as well. -

I think parts are regular blue and neon yellow. Was also thinking that the front rim is new in that color. -

That was my first impression too, but not sure if it's just the angle of the photo. The box does not show that you have to tilt it. On the other hand, it does not have a HoG either. I thought it's something functional, but you are probably right that it just opens the panel. It's okay for a mini set. Is this car transporter scale? -
Unfortunately I don't think so, the whole assembly is at least 13 but rather 15 wide, so 6L links will do just fine.. On the other hand it has Ackermann steering geometry implemented in front of the axle by moving the steering point outer than the pivot point (actually it seems to be 2 studs outer, which is way too much). I guess they only did it just to be able to use those 6L links (which is just lame)..

This looks really great, the chassis and suspension geometry is really clean and elegant! You really did dig deep into the subject! It's great to read. I like how you simplified it all and it became so lightweight, really can see the tubular structure, which is usually not the case with lego builds. Those wheel hubs are interesting, especially the ones designed for floating axles. Can you show some close-up images of those when not mounted? Do they work with U-joints when driven? Where do you get these? Also the rear ones are interesting. Is that big block in the middle the 3d printed mount of the motor? Do you have more pictures? Is the planetary reduction part of it or is that not 3d printed? Do you have a file for it?

Technic General Discussion

That roadmap did not contain too much actual information anyway, at least for Technic and PU components in general. Basically they only said there will be new products and new features. That could mean anything. -
Indeed! And I see two reasons behind it. One is that CADA is not afraid of heavily mixing technic and system parts, uniting the strengths of both worlds (functionality and looks). The other is that CADA seems to be faster at innovating new parts, some of them that are obvious candidates for the technic palette and should have been introduced long ago when there was a slight need for it, instead of trying to avoid them and working around them with clumsy builds, which happens a lot in Lego sets.

Wow, that's pretty cool, works really well, I guess it's just a matter of the right balancing. But it's great that it also leans in and starts to orbit.
