LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
Stuartn replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I suppose a lot of flex track could work, which could be enhanced through using one straight or curved track between them -
I have no problems with apps or whatnot and I most certainly don’t think they are brain rot, as others may have said. I think if you can have an app to interact with bricks then all the better, LEGO is about creativity and that shouldn’t only mean creativity with physical bricks. You’re right that it is not currently happening, and it is worth noting that (I think) a Star Wars set in 2005 only had online instructions and besides Super Mario it hasn’t progressed anywhere. My issue only lies with instructions and while I agree these either are a long way off or may never happen, I just hope it won’t.

There are currently five train sets available, being the city trains, crocodile locomotive, Disney train and Hogwarts express, as well as two track sets and the Christmas train is not long gone. TLG is also giving us the opportunity for an eighth train set with the ADP train station. TLG will do what works for them, this Bricklink initiative will save a tonne of money by targeting the subset of AFOL train fans directly, hence avoiding marketing and distribution. I think we should remember that TLG is doing right by it’s train fans by giving us this set, it is a good thing and the fact we are getting a set shouldn’t be an indicator of train fans being ignored.

The problem is that it can happen with other themes. Super Mario needs internet or devices anyway, so one can assume the consumer already has a device, but not everyone, like myself, has stable internet connections, (I have enough internet, but it comes at a high price) and that is in Australia. Devices are expensive too, and it would be disappointing to see people priced out of the market because they cannot afford a device. I know that is hypocritical since if you cannot afford a phone why are you buying LEGO, and most people have a phone, but people deserve nice things still. And I think it would be sad if one day you require a phone to use your LEGO bricks.

NO there was another clone parts manufacturer who would sell parts, but would direct consumers to purchase the instructions from the maker. Whether that is ok is debatable, but not unfair to the little guy It is never ok otherwise especially when the instructions cost money because it detracts from the sales of the designer, and (like @onecases Jedha) saw people complain he had sold his design to Lepin, which he didn’t.

Our Woolworths are actually a separate company to the US ones, it was actually named after the US stores. But it is a good example of a brand changing, Big W, a company it owns, was originally a large format Woolworths-owned department store, when Woolworths still sold general merchandise, but the latter adapted to the supermarket it is today and the Big W is now the discount variety store, yet nothing has changed in terms of availability of products to the consumer. But back on topic, Lego bricks are going nowhere, in example like Nexo Knights or whatever other theme. You still need bricks, and the bricks are not dependent on the app at all. If you don't want the app, it isn't required to use it. The super mario sets are different in this respect, and I hope that this does not continue into the future with other sets. When/if instructions are moved online, Lego will be much less accessible, unless you own a device. You've put that perfectly

LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

It’s actually not the studs that bother me, but the shape, it looks square, and the hinges aren’t all that appealing. I feel like at least one part of the helmet should’ve been tiled for variance. The front of the helmet looks very blocky too. But as a positive, the proportions are way better now with a different picture. -
What was your first lego set?
Stuartn replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I can remember almost all of my duplo sets, just not the first. I think it was an excavator or police station, just based on release dates. I was joking, Lego most certainly is not an obsession, and even if it is an obsession, it is most certainly not unhealthy. At a younger age, it helps fine motor skills, and still does, and as a KFOL, when city sets were more realistic, was very educational. It is a great hobby and even if I am obsessed it makes me happy and that to me is what’s important. -
Rarest set, polybag, piece or minifigure that you own
Stuartn replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My rarest figure is an aquarist version of the max character from the magazine. It was given out at a lego exhibition at the Sydney aquarium and wildlife centre at Darling harbour. Unfortunately I got it when I was about six or seven so while the torso print is still quite good I cannot specifically locate or vouch for the quality of the head. I am not sure if it was an official figure or something custom printed for the event -
What was your first lego set?
Stuartn replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I cannot remember my first duplo set, but my first lego set was 7994 harbour, which was a birthday present. I wasn’t able to put it together but it sparked an interest/unhealthy obsession with Lego. -

I agree it looks great, good to have such a nice clear image too. I am surprised by the DBG colour instead of black, but it’s nice -
I believe that this initiative with brick link is conceived to work around the issue that trains and other sets are a niche. A regular run of sets would encounter many issues, even with a small amount of sets. There are the distribution costs and costs associated with marketing to resellers like shops and online stores. By marketing through brick link, which is online only, these costs will be averted, and these sets probably won’t have broader appeal to others, so by working with bricklink they target only the subset of buyers without the costs of selling to all consumers. Most costs would probably be in this marketing and distribution, rather than production and assembly which will probably remain automated. This means of distribution may also incur less costs associated with compensating the designer which could be more in a mainstream set, but still avoiding design costs. Does this mean they cannot make more train sets, no, they could, even if it is a bricklink set - a train set is a train set I suppose.

Prequel trilogy Especially when they redesigned the perfectly good airborne trooper too -
That looks great. I love the micro-scale mustafar. And the insect creature reminds me of the thing from the concept art of ep. IX

They also made three much larger gunships too, I think the gunship deserved to win, despite my annoyance since it is a more prominent vehicle. I won't/can't complain since I never voted. Well there was the general grievous starfighter which could could have fitted in another minifigure and desperately needed something to entice consumers -
That looks great, those trees are fabulous and the extensions to all of those modulars work really well, ado your custom ones. A lot of effort has obviously gone into your layout. I really like your monorail station too

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
Stuartn replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Yeah, they still haven't seemed to have gotten that memo yet. . . My guess for why we didn't get one is because they seem to include a plane (2016) or a helicopter (2010) and a limousine, and there was a limousine in the main square set. -

I thought I saw that it also included a stormtrooper too, though that was some time ago so it may be correct. I think I have heard of admiral piett inclusion as well,. There is probably a high degree of uncertainty as to whether the Darth Vader rumour is correct!! -
Supported. That looks great. The building itself is extremely well detailed, and all of the accessories like the snow machine and snowboard rack look great. The ski lift is a genius and seems to work very well. I like the cameo from the yeti and the legs sticking out of the snow.

What Baseplate would you use for a Star Wars City?
Stuartn replied to Steverd's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I suppose that would depend on what the baseplate is. If it is a custom design or a now discontinued baseplates, I suppose it wouldn't be that bad, though if it is a clone part of a Lego piece than that is a grey area. It is even more of a grey area if it is a grey baseplate. Clone baseplates are very available, more so in the mainstream than other pieces. I know Kmart here still sells clone road baseplates alongside its real Lego ones. -

That was exactly my concern too. I agree it could be that it is leaning forward which would move the back part up, but regardless I think the scout trooper is great, the detail even in the grainy image looked great -

I agree, the scout trooper looks great. I cannot see much of the Vader helmet since it is mostly all the one colour and the quality of the picture, but the scale of the upper part of the helmet seems a bit odd compared to the bottom. Source is _legonaire_ on Instagram -
There is a very popular SW wishlist forum, and an ideas forum for City sets in the town forum (more or less a wishlist forum). I don't visit other forums as much so I am not sure, but I think these are the only specific forums like this. There are also a few forums in the sci-fi forum which speak of teh probability of space themes in general, but don't normally wishlist. Almost every individual forum has one or more 2021 discussion threads. More often than not wishlisting isn't allowed though within 2021 discussion threads.

That looks great, I like the rock and grass surfaces and the curvatures of the cliff face

That looks great, you've done a great job integrating all or those city and modular sets. One thing about your layout, which is relatively minor considering all the other details, is the fact you have so many parking spaces. They're something many city layouts don't have and I really like the fact you included them and they look very well done, it gives me some great ideas.
