Obsessive Minifigure Buying Disorder

Well, then you can imagine what a problem it is to be a minifig collector, but on top of that collecting the CMFs!!! -
Your first minifigure?

No worries! Both are nice, vintage figures though. I have to admit though, I have a preference for the classic astronaut guy. -

A poll in this thread would be most interesting. -
Your first minifigure?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to 1980-Something-Space-Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's a nice fig. I got some of those old figs some years ago. However, it is not quite the same one. He meant this one: Apparently, Lego doesn't consider the old figs to be minifigures when talking about "the first minifigure". We need a definition, like they did with "planet". -
Your first minifigure?

Hahaha... I love those Classic Space guys. They have such a classic science fiction look. They definitely look like from 2001: A Space Odyssey. That's a nice fig. I got the later version from set 6600 one year ago. Feels like having a piece of Lego history. -
That was the first set I bought for myself! My first set overall, must have been either: 1760 6314, though only two of its figs were mine, the rest belonged to my sister. Unfair parents. 6535

Believe me, before you know it, you're out of space In general I don't like to keep my Lego stuff on display, because it either gets UV exposure or UV. Of course, if I was richer, I would have plastic cases in a room protected from UV with all my Lego sets. But I should better not get too fond of that idea Thanks for your help.

What was your first minifigure? Or at least, as far as you can remember? Post a pic My first one must have been one of these: Which was my favorite for a long period of my childhood. Got this pair from 6314. I think my parents bought it and split it between my sister and me. She got the four other figs... . (Fortunately she gave away all her Lego stuff to me years later ) I know I used to switch the pieces of my Lego guys... I'll never know if this guy still has got the blue legs he originally came from, or if the Octan racer stole them. I would hate somebody stealing my pants So what was your first minifig? Tell your anecdotes! PD: Several Google and Eurobricks strongly suggest that this topic doesn't exist already.

Best LEGO Train Ever Made
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to paintballman413's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I would have to say either Santa Fe or the Metroliner. Can't decide which of both is my favorite. -
Such a tough decision! I have to say that even though I love the track of 6399, I find 6991 to have amazing colors and a high play value. You can play so long with it! I have to admit though, who wouldn't just lovee to own 6399? All three are amazing. Edit: Wouldn't it be interesting to make another poll with the option to vote for the Seatron monorail? Love that one too...

Obsessive Minifigure Buying Disorder
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to 22kane's topic in Special LEGO Themes
YES! I do. Hehehe. Well now, speaking seriously, I only have so much money to buy one of each, since I'm collecting other figs. That being said, I just want all cool minifigs . I can tell you, the amount of figs in my wanted list is about as much as I own. I'm not addicted to CMFs in big amounts, but I'm addicted to minifigs in general. -
Does Kingdoms live up to Castle expectations?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to K-Nut's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hehehe, I'm glad I helped. I also wanted the other thread to have a poll... Sorry I can't give an opinion here, as I'm not much of a Castle fan. I will say, though, that I love the figs. Sorry to repeat that -
What set/sets brought you out of your dark ages?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to 22kane's topic in Community
I entered high school in 2006. As a result, I found myself too busy to mind Lego. The new lines didn't appeal as much to me, and I also came to that awkward stage in which most teenagers try to do stuff to be accepted (even if they don't think so). Anyways, I gradually left Lego for other interests, such as movies, soundtracks, and SW Unleashed figures. I didn't buy Lego for myself anymore, but I did get some from other people. My peak was 2008... In that year, I only got 4 minifigs. However, at the end of 2008, I realized this baby was released for the 30th anniversary of SW: It was first sight love!! I knew I had to get one. Fortunately, it wasn't too late for me, as these were still fairly common on eBay. I bought one sealed at $75, and in January 2009 my new shiny buddy arrived. I bought the other shiny guys, and in no time I was back at minifig and keychain collecting. I even began to buy Space Police III sets, which also helped to bring me out of my Dark Ages (it even makes me shiver to say those two words together). But it was basically "goldie pants" who got me out of it. Thanks, 3PO buddy! You'll always be one of my favorite figs -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The stuff on Brickipedia was based on a post on FBTB which at the same time was based on an interview on Brickjournal, so it was reliable still. I know trusting the Wikis is not the best way to go often, but they do point towards good sources of info that you can trust. -
Hi all, I have a problem storing my kechains (around 180 of them). How do you store yours? Mine are all in small ziplock bags inside a plastic box. This helps them be well protected. However, this makes it hectic to find any keychain in particular. Thus, I'm looking for a better solution. I need them to be protected from the air while hopefully being space efficient.

Storage and Sorting LEGO
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Hinckley's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The only sets that I keep disassembled are my Mindstorms sets. I keep their parts in some plastic cases that have small drawers. It's more or less like this: I don't put them in ziplock bags before, since the drawers are relatively small. I have seen people use things like these too. I don't know what the best sorting is, but for me, a combination of size and type would do the trick. -
And "Alien Conquest is way better" isn't a biased statement? I respectfully disagree. Anyways, I think it depends on what we all expect from a space line. Even though my main Lego passion is minifigs, this wouldn't make me like a theme with awesome minifigs and not-so-good sets (but I'm not implying this one is the case). Also, about the Classic Space color scheme coming back, I have to disagree here too. Yes, it was blue, grey, and even yellow, but a great part of their color scheme was the minifig's!!! I would love these colors coming back in some sort of neo-classic space theme... But in this case, I don't find it makes a big difference, personally. I definitely agree. Instead of making those ugly one-piece guys that all look alike, we get these modifications to the already existent minifigure, further increasing the amount of possible combinations of minifigures possible. As a big fan of the minifigure, I'd rather see new minifigures than new "figures", if you know what I mean. Perhaps one of the distinctive characteristics of this theme is that it is not as futuristic as the others. Still, I think that Lego should always have a fairly futuristic space adventure subtheme.

What's the best way to store minfigures?

AA: Absolutely Awesome!!!!! Do you have any other frames like this? The nice thing about keeping figs together is how their colors combine so beautifully. Is it UV-proof? -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

Thanks for all your tips! I think that I should take my chances, especially since my only other option for getting them sealed is at $65 including shipping... I really hope they come here. -

How hard is it for a mortal, average Joe Lego fan to know what is inside, get a full set of all 16, and not make a mistake? I'm just evaluating my options, and since there's a slight possibility of these figures coming here, I'd like to hear of your experiences. -
What's the best way to store minfigures?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to ziljin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I remove some air but keep some in. You have to be careful in order to keep a balance. Too much air in will be very space-innefficient, whereas almost no air inside will provide almost no cushion to protect the minifig. As when building things with Technic, you've got to be careful to have your minifigs nice and tight, but not too tight, or they might get damaged. You will see what I mean when you try to store them. No worries. It is very intuitive and you know if it's right. I think that you risk breaking the helmet especially with old Classic Space figs that had no thick chinstrap. If I misplace a helmet, I try to remove it carefully while rotating it. The tips above seem very helpful though. I've never tried one of those before. -
Quite frankly, I consider myself a minifigure fan (not only of CMFs), and I'm not too sure that I would like this idea. I'm not a fan of figures without movable limbs. Of course, the transparent awesomeness could overcome this... I don't think that Lego would go so far from their minifigure design for this theme though. Maybe for some other theme, like a frozen guy or something, they could make a part for this purpose. After all, it would make sense for someone frozen not to be able to move a limb. Second thought, I would consider it depending on how well the transparent guy looks.

What's the best way to store minfigures?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to ziljin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've had some figs stored in bags for around 7 years without being opened. So far, no negative effects. As far as I know, the main enemies of minifigures are UV light, which causes the infamous yellowing, heat, which also damages plastic, and oil, that can damage stickered torsos. Quite frankly, if storing them in a bag causes a negative effect over them, I doubt there is any method of keeping them safe... Edit: I have that problem only with old figures with no hollow studs. My guess has always been that it's a problem from the old design, but I don't know for sure. I haven't had this problem ever with the new heads.
