Somebody is selling a custom model of one of the twin towers here. Looks very accurate. -
Why do you collect the Collectible Minifigures?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to thegurumb's topic in Special LEGO Themes
One of my main Lego passions is minifigures. As a result, I enjoy getting such a wide variety of characters without having to buy sets. These figures are relatively cheap (considering that ordering spare figures on BL costs around $5 for a cheap minifigure), and very detailed. So, I have collected all the series so far, and it just makes me smile to see the great variety of figures we've got now. -
Where do you keep your Minifigures?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to timmorgan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, there has been a serious space problem in my room for some time... Along with a limited budget, this forces my collectible minifigs, along with all other minifigures in my collection, to go into a plastic box in separate baggies. Fortunately this is a very space efficient solution, and it is not too hard to take out my figs to look at them. I just hope I'll be able to afford a better solution someday. -
MOC: My Minifigure Display Stand
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Splat's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Found this thanks to the new special themes index. I have to say that this stand looks very professional. It is so sleek and versatile. For the moment, I have to store my minifigs on plastic cases. I haven't even got enough money or space to have all the minifigs on my want list, so I can't make a display right now. Yours, however, looks beautiful, and I hope I'll someday be able to display my figs. How do you keep them dust free? -
Skin color Minifigure Series (retouch)
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
To tell you the truth, although I think it would be interesting to see these in skin color, I prefer non-licensed figures to be yellow. This is how the minifigure was born, and I think that many of us have grown fond of the yellow color. Although I'll admit that if these were sold in skin color too, people would have more possibilities for their MOCs. It's an interesting idea you've got here. Some more appropiate retouching and you could get a very realistic image. -
I think that I found another Lego frustration: it is addicting!

Those legs look pretty good, actually! I think that you could use these to substitute some of the plates and have a more studless feel in the middle part. Unfortunately those are the biggest tiles that you can use for this model, but still they could look good. But of course it's your creation, and you should make it only if you like the look of it.

NEW EXCLUSIVE: Max Minifigure
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to legolooney's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think that it is not rare at all, as the market suggests. At least we do know that there are much more of them than people who want them. I don't know, I've never been a Lego club member, I don't feel identified with this fig, and even if it was rare, I don't find much sense in buying stuff just because it is rare. However, the fig is nice, and if I ever made a BL order and they have this fig for say, $3, I would buy it. I think that one big problem is that some eBay sellers keep saying that many items that are not actuaply rare, are rare. There is a very rare Lego minifig, the de Bowsteen (sorry for mispellings, can't look it up at this moment). However, few people are actually interested in them, so although people try to sell them at insane prices, nobody buys them. I don't think that rareness should be a factor to decide whether one wants a figure or not. -

That's probably the best Lego eBay deal I've ever heard of. -
Which 'Space' theme should LEGO revive?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Ogre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I guess you're right. I didn't know that monorails were not successful. Why was that? The price tag? I love the way Aquazone turned out, and still see it as a space theme. But who knows? Perhaps it would be interesting to see an Aquazone-like theme with a few characteristic space elements. Fortunately, I think that even if Lego doesn't revive any of these space themes, there are other great ideas that haven't been used. That is not to say that I don't want Blacktron to come back -

Thanks for the info. Nope, BL says it was sold at that price. Just out of curiosity, how did you manage to get a sealed one so cheap? Those are the prices that they are selling the good used ones at right now. -
Which 'Space' theme should LEGO revive?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Ogre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'd also like to see some Seatron. Perhaps some Aquanauts/space hybrid, or just put more sci-fi into Aquanauts? After all, Aquanauts is the result of what was going to be Seatron. I'd just like it to be clear that it is a space theme. Perhaps some sets that are not underwater, but let the guys go underwater (like the Seatron monorail, which had a track with its lower parts colored blue, meaning the monorail went underwater). Who wouldn't have loved to see that monorail in the store shelves. -
I have seldom found decent Lego clones, if that even exists! Anyways, although I'm just as angry as anybody to see my favorite company get its work plagiarized, just like I would hate anybody copying my work, there are a few needs that these clone brands satisfy. First off, Lego is expensive, as we all know. Sure, we pay for quality, but not everyone is on the conditions to pay for Lego. So, if these companies can bring something similar (far, but similar ) to Lego fun to people who can't afford it or simply are not interested enough in Lego's standards to pay the price, I think that they do some good. Of course, I don't mean blatant plagiarism of sets, but similar building toy ideas used for other models. I have to say, I owned a couple of Mega sets, and I got rid of them a short time ago. The quality is not the same, and I have enough room problems in my room ( ) with Lego already. I have only kept a few Marvel action figures that I bought for myself. So, clone brands? Acceptable to me if they don't imitate blatantly Lego models.

Perhaps the middle part could use some plates, and you could leave the wings as they are. Just a suggestion And I meant the series 1 spaceman's legs. (these) Cheers!

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought they were from the "pre-brick" era of Lego. Aren't they? Here. -
Review of promo-set 852996 - Lego Club Max.
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Daniil K.'s topic in Special LEGO Themes
The main reason why I think I would like to get this fig if I ever bought from a Bricklink store and they had this guy available. One question though. The prices mentioned in this thread, were they the same as today's? I think that $5 for this fig is not that much, but if it was sold at very high prices in the beginning, I would like to know how high they were. -
What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I haven't bought Lego SW for a while. First, most of the current sets are either too expensive or CW based, so I usually not buy anything SW these days. I only like to collect the minifigs and the keychains. My most recent SW purchase was a Jango Fett minifigure on eBay that I bought on early 2010. If you don't count loose minifigures, then it would probably be a few SW keychains I purchased in 2009, namely CW Yoda and R7-A7. Not counting minifigures, it would be 8017, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, back in 2009 too. I really wanted to find a chrome vader... Had to go on eBay for one later. -

Found a few other huge display "minifigures" today: Ferrari Display Figure Johnny Thunder Display Figure Charles Lightning Display Figure I have also seen some Ninjago display figures for sale, although none too recently. I, for one, wouldn't pay those crazy prices for them. -
I like all except the Joker and the Hulk. The Joker looks too inaccurate to me.
