Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
cosmic replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Eh I definitely think End Game had the weakest cinematic wave of sets. I personally disliked the Thor Ragnorok sets as well but it was inconsequential since I don’t buy most cinematic sets in the same way most people here avoid comic sets. Based on Falcon’s responses, I think there is a renewed potential for the D2C to be MCU. My take away from those exchanges is to not really have any expectations for the D2C. I’m excited to see if all the Avengers sets this wave are “legacy” sets for older movies, and if they are I hope that opens up the possibility for the CMF series to be comic based. -

Marvel Cinematic Universe sets have always been great imo. Endgame may have been horrendous, but Infinity War, Civil War, GotG 1+2, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther all had good sets. The first Avengers wave was pretty decent, Iron Man 3 had 2 “bad” sets but even then only the smallest was even “bad”. MCU sets have been at a good standard from the jump. -
I think we haven’t seen Mad Hatter because DC has not used him in a cartoon since Batman the Animated Series and thats not on these days how it was when I was growing up. He’s not big in media and Lego DC is notorious for going for “safe” and popular character choices in sets.
-
Happy someones enjoying it, and their target demographic at that. Same here, if I already have every figure in a set, I don’t buy it, unless the build is a must have, which is usually not the case in superheroes. This makes buying DC a cheap commodity because they rarely release new characters. On the note of more building and structured based sets, I agree completely. I think part of the problem is how few sets we get in general. Vehicles sell best and with waves with only 2 sets, Lego is going to stick to safe concepts. But even in saying that, you can always have the bulk of a set be a structure and release a few smaller vehicles to accompany. The bulk of the mobile bat build was a vehicle and the smaller builds were also vehicles. I really want a joker Ice Cream Factory Hideout similar to his depictions in Batman the Animated Series, a large ice cream factory silhouette, with a hot air ballon escape for joker, with Harley and her 2 hyenas, Batman and co can also come in on a glider and motorcycles. Sets like this would speak to me, and is a decent example of what I mean by adding vehicles to location based builds. We actually always get a car with each Arkham release so they’ve kind of already been on that. aannd on that note I really want this years $200 set to be anything other than a bat vehicle. I’ll take another Arkham. Just please stop with the batvehicles.

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
cosmic replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Unrelated to any new releases but wanted to comment on the pricing of an already released product. Lego Curve and Crossroad, and Straight and T Junction both sell for $14.99. This to me, is a little expensive. I thought there would be more than 2 of each in each bag but each bag only has 1 of its respective road plates. This makes city building expensive for me and I would love to see them at $10 max. -
Oh my god who thought Tutu Batman and Caveman Batman would be huge hits I remember Simpsons Series 2 selling poorly at my local stores and thought little of it. I didn’t care for the franchise but thought the designs were solid for whoever would. Guess not a lot of people did. Hope the DC Series sold better than the Lego Batman Movie Series. I hope it sold well in general. As terrible of an administrative job as the cinematic and comic directors at DC are doing, I have hope that the value of this brand is strong enough for a series to sell. I like to think DC is in a rough patch, but won’t be here forever. It’s important to understand how the failing cinematic efforts diminish the strength of the brand. I just really want a Series 2. Aside from a repetitive roster of Batman figures in the first Series and ugly design choices for Batgirl and Robin (imo) I still thought both Series 1 and 2 had enough JL members, villains and supporting characters to sell well. I actually loved March Harriet, Mime, Jor-El, Eraser, and the Wonder Twins. Black Vulcan, Canary, and Calendar Man were decent as well. Off topic for 2021 but I recently saw a full review of the 2020 Mobile Bat Base and wow I hate that set. So many creative decisions that bothered me. Really wish it was never produced. Lego rarely makes DC sets and we are so used to waves with just 2 sets. I wish they made a Joker Ice Cream Factory Hideout or a Botanical Gardens or something more relevant to Batman and exciting. Even the Bat-Tank, I think would have done good at that price point of $90. Batgirl absolutely needs both dual molded legs and leg printing, for the Bat details on the top of her boots. I am so bricking over this hairpiece in Lego superheroes. It fit well for Gamora, Storm obviously needed a new mold, I prefer displaying Black Widow in different hair but i guess it was accurate for her too, Stargirl it was annoying for, she literally has like 3 different hair pieces that would more accurately depict her as she’s shown in the comics (the Trendsetters hair, S6 Intergalactic Girl hair, or the S9 Mermaid hair). But Batgirl really irked me. In the Rebirth comics this design was going for, she has tiny little Bat ears perk over her silky straight red hair. This overused piece works better for thicker, wavier hair. That’s also over the shoulder. Her hair is more straight smooth and falls off her back. In many ways I wish Lego would produce an entirely new female hair mold, as I feel we have a lot, but many aren’t applicable. Idk would love more hair options. Mr. Freeze is a huge downgrade. Horrendous. Why does he have such a small helmet and basic design? We got 2 great molds from him in 2013 and with the Lego Batman movie. Why downgrade to something smaller and less intimidating? His design is so bad i would probably give it away or discard it I really don’t want it anywhere near my collection lmao it was so bad. And for what? We’ve gotten some great Freeze figures before what creative decision about this newer one felt worth making? He looks bad. The base looks exactly like the Ultra Agents HQ. the design feels unoriginal and inapplicable to the character. The figure designs are both lazy and underwhelming. I care so little for the small vehicles. Why? Because Lego released so many Batvehicles over the year these have no impact on me as a consumer. Its the same old same old with even less detail than usual. This set is so bad. I really wish another idea took its place. Need a bat vehicle? Cool should have been the Bat-Tank with a decent interior and a little Bat-Bike to fit in. Want to reuse the same roster of characters? Make Mr. Freeze at least look worth buying. Man-Bat was nice I guess. Nightwing’s polybag release to me towers over this design. Batman also needs dual molded legs, and similar to Batgirl would need leg printing on top to really be accurate. This set is everything I hate about Lego DC. The build is like? When was that ever used in Batman media and who cared about it enough for it to be a set? The figures are horrendous, Freeze, Batgirl and Nightwing all look bad to me, thats like half the cast. Bronze Tiger and Batman are also underwhelming imo. Didn’t want to make a new mold for Bronze Tiger? I guess they went all modern but I’d loved to have seen his classic design with a yellow bandana over his head and Falcons hairpiece with a yellow karate outfit on. It would have called for more detail. The build sucks and so do the figures. Like at least the more recent Batwing set, which I also did not enjoy, had a great Commissioner Gordon figure, Shazam, and the Batwing had not really been seen in a while. Oh my god I hope Lego never makes a DC set this bad again. If we never get sets make the few we get worth buying please dear lord. rant over

Disney Properties 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
cosmic replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I hope this does not sound ignorant but what would a set with 487 pieces be reasonably priced at? I often feel Lego sets are more than what they “should be” but admittedly don’t know how to measure that. -
The perfect thing about Ducky was his base. He could fit perfectly on a minifigure hand because his feet only cover a 1x1 stud anyway. Tweety is depicted as much smaller than the rest of the cast it would look weird if he were at even a relative height.

Disney Properties 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
cosmic replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow I sure hope no one PM’s me the leaked images From the sounds of it I only want the Firehouse. Not into variants of Daisy or the other members of this entourage. I want Pluto and Goofy and luckily they come in a set that also has a new variant of Mickey and Minnie. That set has the perfect figure selection. Really hope Lego does more of these. I want to see Clarabelle Cow, Pete, and Mortimer Mouse. So many classic Mickey Cartoons I think would fit into this perfectly. I wish Lego would just release a minifigure based “Disney” theme with sets based on various Disney properties. I’d love a large Maleficent castle, Rapunzels Forest Cottage, other Princess sets with more detailed builds using figures as opposed to minidolls. Sets based off various Pixar properties and assorted classic cartoons and movies. Unlikely, but I’d spend any amount of money on minifigure centered system scale Disney sets. -
Really hope Tweetie is a smaller mold accompanying a figure as opposed to his own figure. I’d like him to be around the size of the mold used for Ducky in 10770. Excited for this Series I remember thinking I wanted a Daffy Duck after first seeing the Donald Duck figure from Disney Series 1. I just wish the price for each bag was back down to $3 a bag. As the years went by and we had gradual price hikes I always feared and somehow had faith we would never reach the $5 mark. It’s too much for me. I actually love years where we get a lot of series. I love giving money for these things. The only reason it feels like “too much” is because the price is too high. My only other complaint being how fast the series go by. If you’ve been struggling to find work during the pandemic it can be kind of painful seeing most stores stop carrying a particular series by the time you afford to buy them. I miss seeing 3 or more series on shelves. It’s happened occasionally and is more common now than in recent years (saw DC, Harry Potter Series 2, and Series 21 at a Barnes and Noble). Just hope they stick around longer for those of us who take time to get around picking up a series.

I think it’s harder to compress blind boxes as opposed to blind bags. There’s a chance the boxes will only fit 24 blind boxes and bc of their dimensions and texture will not fit packets from other boxes. As for collecting the tiles, seems like a minor thing to want to complete I’m more into the new figures and their molds as opposed to their tiles. I wouldn’t call the info useless however. I can go to a store early for a new box to be opened up and I have no issue studying the box layouts to try my shot at getting my desired figures. Also if what @Anonknee Muss is saying is true, and their could be a few other box layouts, thats still better than going in blind. For me at least, this info can help me avoid duplicates or figures I don’t want. I hope, assuming there are other box layouts, Lego fans continue to release details about the distribution of their boxes so we see all the potential ways the figures are lined up. I hope, despite the order they may be put in from front to back, the figures second appearance continues to be right next to each other. In this way, according to the box on exabrickslegogo instagram page, both bunnies are next to each other, both genies were next to each other so on. Despite the figure order from front to back I hope they release all the duplicates side by side for each box, making it easier to skip duplicates . Also hope there’s no more than 3 box distributions being used.
-
I saw an instagram post about the distribution for a full box. I’m confused because everyone in the comments was like, so this is how each figure in the box is lined up? Its basically each figure appears twice and they are side by side, with there being 24 in a box and its 2x12. If indeed every box has the same layout, I can get the figures i need by waiting for a new box to be put on display. My one concern is, are ‘t the distributions different for each box? Just because his box was in the particular order that was in, doesn’t mean every box is, correct? I hope every box has the same figure distribution so I can get the ones I want.
-
Considering how much I love the designs there is an alternate universe where I do buy these. If Lego last minute decided to add a code to identify the figures that would be amazing. I usually hate the $5 mark for a CMF but these new molds seem to justify it. All I need is a way to make sure I don’t get duplicates. I hope this is the last tome they ever do blind boxes. I don’t feel like wasting money getting duplicates trying to complete a series I have no connection to.

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
cosmic replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I would hope so but who knows. As far as Marvel goes, Lego actually has produced sets based off of cartoons airing at the time, we saw this with the 2012 Ultimate Spiderman set and you could say the 2014 “comics” Avengers wave was really an Avengers Assemble wave. I guess at DC Lego ignores cartoons but over here we may actually receive a set or two. As others have said the 90’s designs are my favorite for the team. Hot take, the Square Enix wave could be considered a comic wave. Yes the video game is its own thing but the designs we got were comic accurate for most. For the MCU listed figures, consider that the cinematic universe has inspired designs for many characters. Rocket Raccoons comic designs after the GotG movie aired was made an orange jumpsuit just like the movie, whereas he usually wore brown or blue. Nick Fury was black only in the ultimate universe but has recently been depicted as black across all Marvel mediums. The argument could be made that something is simultaneously comic accurate and MCU accurate as the comics tend to mirror creative decisions made in the movies. -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Gasp what if its a comics Asgard? I could see it being the Death of Gwen Stacy with a bridge similar to the 2015 one but bigger and more complete. Galactus makes sense but without the Fantastic Four feels odd. X-Mansion is simultaneously obvious and super unlikely. Do we think an X-Mansion would sell poorly? I hope not but judging by these comments, yes it would fail. Stark Tower or Avengers Mansion maybe. I’m fairly certain it won’t go to the Guardians or Inhumans or F4 or X-Men. Either Avengers or Spidey based. No clue but hopefully its Asgard. I really want a comic accurate Valkyrie and Lego already has a hairpiece perfect for her (see CMF Series 11). -

This is how I took it. The quote he was responding to was broad, about D2C’s in general going to the MCU. His response was well, implying we could get a comic D2C. Not that this year, we would be getting a comic D2C. As someone who prefers the comic designs, I don’t want to get my hopes up. And as others have touched on before, the one comic property i would love to have adapted is the X-Mansion. With all the “don’t count on an X-Men set until their introduced to the MCU” replies I’ve gotten over time, I don’t think it’s likely to be that. But it would be the most exciting. Besides that I would honestly like a comics Stark Tower, every Avengers Tower has so far felt a bit too thin and lacking density. I think I would enjoy a comics take on that. Or a comics Avengers Mansion, but the designs for those figs would be more classic and not leaning on late 90’s to modern like the figs for a Stark Tower would. Come to think of it there’s a few ways this won’t be disappointing. I have to say, a big Infinity Gauntlet would be a let down however, as it would have no play ability and I wouldn’t really care for one as a display piece. -
Sat on this thought for a while and I wanted to say I agree. You hit the nail on the head, Harley is a deranged, violent, funny and unpredictable but dangerous character. Something a little more sinister and snarky seems appropriate. This current face is on the sillier and goofier side. She needs to have that sort of cartoony darkness to her. I think what I didn’t enjoy of TLBM figure is she had that Disney style lack of teeth and general wideness to her smile, the figure felt lacking. The 2016 Harley face was the best imo, and I think more can be done around that design. It could be tweaked and updated but they got the right clowny villain feel. Oof this was long. Very excited for the 3 upcoming sets this year! Looking back I actually enjoyed this past years Batcave, and the more recent Batmech with Firefly and Ivy. Potentially at least one of these 3 sets can have something worth seeing? We usually get at least one new figure a year and while that bar is so low and we should be getting more, I have hope in Lego giving us at least one new figure this year. If it’s a hero or villain is yet to be seen. Last year our only new figure was Bronze Tiger, a villain. Regardless of who it is I’m excited for what we may get. Hopefully we get some leaguers accompanying Batman, with last year Mobile Batbase still on shelves, Batgirl and Nightwing are available to audiences. Hopefully that opens up room for Batman to be accompanied by other heroes this wave, even if the villains remain his. We saw this with Shazam joining him against Riddler in that Batwing set, what was that 2,3 years ago? I’d personally like to see an updated Black Canary, with a new face, using the blonde Hermione hair and with a different costume, maybe her black leotard or her more recent depictions. Wouldn’t mind seeing an updated Hawkgirl either, with a new Helmet mold. Always felt they went cheap reusing Hawkmans mold and it isn’t really applicable to her. Firestorm also has a few routes to take, Jason Rusch with leg printing, Ronnie Raymond classic(“underwear costume”, Ronnie Raymond dark red costume or Ronnie Raymond silver Futures End costume. As for new Leaguers I’d like to see Fire and Ice or Booster Gold. With the price ranges we are getting we could see at least one location. I don’t know, I have more faith in this year now that we know we aren’t getting absolutely nothing. My one concern regardless however, is, whichever new character we get, will they receive the appropriate printing? Many of DC’s characters would need dual molded legs, leg printing, or both. I hope Lego depicts them accordingly. But they’ve set a precedent of skipping out the details, so.

Hmm? I don’t take this as “this particular D2C is not going to the MCU”. The quote he was answering said that D2C’s in general will be MCU based, this could be a correction that no we COULD get a comic based D2C. Maybe he was correcting the broad term @oxy220 used when saying D2C’s are for the MCU, and not talking this years release in specific. -
Eh. I really like the hair and body print for the new Harley but for some reason don’t like the face. Maybe its the facial expressions or the light eyeshadow but her face is kind of not doing it for me. The new Penguin would be better if he used TLBM hat mold in either black or purple. The new Batman is decent I guess. The hammer for Harley is very underwhelming. everyone has their own opinion but the 2016 New 52 Harley and the 70916 Harley are the best imo. Hope they eventually release a Harley with dark eyeshadow and either dark red or black lips. Hope to see a different face print for her too. Her face prints have for some reason always left something to be desired for me. Maybe a darker makeup and an angrier or more whacky face would do? Not sure.
-
Yes I agree time is flying fast that set felt like yesterday. Also I hate this line of thinking because as true as it may be, there is no reason why Lego can’t introduce new concepts in their standard DC sets. We shouldn’t need a big movie to get well printed figures and missing JL members. Ideally in a normal year we’d have some sprinkled in.
-
I believe what Anonkee Muss was trying to say is, despite there still being a lot of creative room for newer builds and minifigures lego consistently releases the same stuff and the usual excuse for why the bar is so low is because its aimed at kids. What I take from that is a sarcastic nod to the tried and tired talking point that this theme is what it is because its all kids want. This theme is just Batwings/Batmobiles against Joker/Freeze/Riddler You forgot Anarchy, Lady Shiva, and Babydoll. I don’t mind Lego Batman sets, I just want to see new concepts, villains, and supporting characters in them. Lego Batman is not the problem, its how they approach it.
-
As others have said I think we need a big fig version of comic Bane. I’ll add to that, that Scarecrow has had 2 very satisfying figure releases and I think Lego did a great job with the Batcopter and TLBM versions of Scarecrow. But we also need green skin Poison Ivy, minifigure Clayface, Harley with the new pigtail piece from The Lego Movie, Deadshot with new helmet mold (reusable for Deathstroke). Also hope they add more JL members as side heroes for Batman stories like they did with Aquaman in the 2013 Mr. Freeze set. I’d like to see updated versions of Black Canary, Hawkgirl, and Green Arrow and I figure Batman sets are the way to get them. Also Batgirl with dual molded legs. Its funny how even in Lego Batman there are still ways to innovate and Lego just keeps with the same roster of figures and their lack of printing. Like there are version of Batman villains and supporting characters we have yet to see, entire supporting characters and villains we haven’t seen at all yet, so many locations and even vehicles yet to be depicted. And somehow we get the same sets and figures every other year. We could get Ivy’s Rose Bud car from BTAS, Iceberg Lounge, Freeze’s lair, Ivy’s botanical gardens, Joker Ice Cream Factory hideout, etc.
-
I thought about that when I first saw 4762. The same could be said about Clayface, who could have had a minifig or brick built release, and has only gotten brick built releases. King shark in my opinion would be better looking if he was a big fig. I like the size he brings to the Suicide Squad it’d be kind of dulling the character out to make him the same size as everyone else.

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
cosmic replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree. Among many other heroes i catch myself wondering how we haven’t gotten them already. Not sure if popularity is an issue I really think a F4 set would sell well. However I’ve been told we won’t get any F4 or X-Men content until they’re introduced to the MCU and that can take another decade or less but it’s still frustrating. I wish Marvel never sold the X-Men off in the 90’s (I get they were in die financial need) so we could have received more merchandise for them sooner. But yes I believe the paperwork has been done to give the X-Men over to Marvel studios.i may be wrong in that but I’m pretty sure we technically can receive sets, but without a movie or cartoon out its very unlikely. Even though I reason they’re probably popular enough to sell considering they get the printing they need and the builds don’t suck. Sometimes I think (particularly with DC) the sets sell poorly bc they’re just all around unappealing, and then people will blame it on the characters that led the set. Like maybe a good new figure isn’t always enough. same here, I have a strong feeling he’ll appear in the CMF series. He definitely could have had his own set with Elektra and Kingpin however. And in many ways I still want that. no idea but I hope they’re comic based. Based on the timing it would make a lot of sense for them to be covering the Disney Plus shows however. If they’re comic based, while not speculation, I’d love for comic versions of Ant-Man and the Wasp to be included. I prefer their newer Marvel Now black and red costumes but their classics would do well too. Also hoping we get a punisher daredevil team up set. -
Yeah each box should have had the face of the figure inside like the Mario buildable series. The designs were also so good I really wanted most of them. But at the risk of getting so many multiples and wasting so much money to “bump into” the right figure makes me not want to buy the series. Who thought this was a good idea? Hehe those pesky troglodytes will just throw their money at us in search of a complete series! Those pesky fools.... except what will really happen is sales won’t be as promising because Lego actively made their product less appealing.
