Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Daily Bugle would just be a big office building. I would buy it but don’t see it as a smart business move. Without the X-Men or Fantastic Four, The Baxter Building and X-Mansion (my more desired sets tbh) are not going to happen. We already got a helicarrier and oversized Hulk-buster. An oversized Milano or any other ship would be a let down as well. honestly Asgard (comics or movies) is the only thing I could see this being that would intrigue me. Whats interesting is I never expected a giant hulk-buster or oversized vehicles from the Burton movies. So in many ways I think its silly to have any expectations of a superhero D2C. -
What a great build. Very accurate to the MCU depiction of Mjolnir. Pretty sure thats just how its supposed to look across mediums. Never thought of making a life size Mjolnir out of Lego and definitely did not expect it to hold together so well. Especially like the smooth surface and snot approach to the build. Smooth clean and effective very well done moc. Wonder if anyone else has taken their shot at making this in life size form in Lego before.

*gasp* a modular set with only 2 figures? If its comic based I’m sure Dormammu and Mephisto can make appearances. If the set is short of figures Silver Surfer and Scarlet Witch are also valid suggestions to bulk the set up.

Revisiting images of the new arms I have to say they look strange with the current dual molded legs as well as the pure blue legs. Once Lego added that detail on the arms the dual molded legs look noticeably un-webbed and I think it would really perfect the figure to add that webbing. To each his own but I really think the new arms won’t work (for me at least) until the same webbing is added onto the leg print. -

Consider it money saved on an expensive year. If I collected MCU sets I’d see this year as really expensive lol I’d be happy the Shang-Chi set is unappealing, this summer wave sounds amazing and costly. -
Lmao this. Like we usually get 2 sets max per wave. At least 6 would be decent. When was the last time this theme had a full wave? Things I’d like to see moving forward: • If repeating a character, give us a new design. Harley still has a plethora of costumes to get, Joker can still be done in many ways, his purple suit is tired at this point. I want a more menacing face print and I want Lego to experiment with hair pieces for him. Green Ivy, Big Fig Bane (comics), Freeze with either the 2013 or 2017 helmet mould, but with new print and a new ice gun build. You can’t give us no new characters AND repeat variants. Good lord do something. • Adding more leaguers to Batman sets. If non Batman characters can’t receive their own sets can we at least squeeze them into one of his sets over another Batgirl or Robin? • New builds. I am so bricking tired of Bat-Vehicles in some ways I don’t even think Lego will ever give us a non Bat-Vehicle set for this theme ever again. I have no hope in DC anymore. I am literally going crazy at how all this theme is, is vehicles with repeat figures that have bad quality print. Need vehicles? Ivy’s Rose Bud car, Freeze has had ice mobiles before, we haven’t gotten an ice cream truck lately and that would work really well for Harley if they gave it a red and black color scheme. Like a gothic ice cream truck. Sets I want to see • A Teen Titans wave, poofy haired Starfire (do not care for her straight hair depictions, give us her classic with a big new hair mould please), Terra, Beast Boy using Farran’s hair piece from elves, Raven with the new Jedi hood mould (not the one they used on the new Miles Morales) • Titans Tower 150-250 dollars • T-Ship based on the cartoon. Sorry the comics design is so boring the animated series had a really unique shape to the ship - $50-$70 • Hive Base breakthrough - similiar to the Toxicita showdown, a facade of a lab and maybe a vehicle or two for Hive. Hopefully the building is a little more complete and visually appealing from the back. Facade more akin to the Sanctum Santorom from Infinity War but less depth for the sake of cost. A helicopter and a few bikes maybe Big fig Mammoth, comics accurate Jinx, 2 Hive Agents, Nightwing, Aqualad - $50 a $70 • Gizmo Takedown - Small hovercraft build for Gizmo, Beast Boy, Raven, a green Elephant, Lion, dog and snake mould. $30-$40 depending on the cost of the large animal moulds. side notes • Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, Booster Gold and Ted Kord in sets alongside Batman and Superman facing off villains like Joker, Ivy, Lex Luthor and other big named villains. • More team ups with the other heroes villain involved. Batman and Firestorm vs Killer Frost and Freeze for example. Superman, Shazam vs Lex and Black Adam. • More Gotham locations. We got a lame Jokerland in 2015, and a Joker Manor for no reason. I want either a normal Wayne Manor or a big highly detailed and bulky Jokerland set. The clown mouth alone should be intimidating and detailed, not a small little mouth over a flimsy structure. And please no conceptual mashup of locations like the Joker Manor that set is such a waste of potential imo. Iceberg Lounge, Botanical Gardens, Ice Cream Factory hideout, Wayne Manor, Arkham Asylum series of sets that connect like how Lego is handling Hogwarts (!!) etc.

Looking back at Piglet and pictures of the characters online, I agree with whoever said she should have been released with the small minidoll bodies from the Disney princess line. The scale would be right and they could have just made the head piece either smaller, or as a mask that goes over a regular minifig head. The definitely look bigger than they should. Looking at pictures of Winnie he also has a relatively small stomach but he still looks weird with his big head and thin Lego body.

Marvins full figure has leaked. The cloth skirt piece is such a disappointment. They did not capture the silhouette of the character at all (also fumbled that with skinny Winnie). The cloth piece is underwhelming and I wish they just printed lines onto the skirt piece @Brick Cucumber recommended. The rest is meh obviously his cartoon is drawn with skinny little legs and his thick lego legs felt off for that reason, he looked bulkier than the skinny cartoon we’re used to. But the cloth skirt only really messed up the illusion some more. Not the worst but honestly not a fan of that figure.

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

So earlier I made complaints that an MCU based CMF series would be boring because the little ground that needs to be covered for the missing suits would not be as exciting as the missing comic variants. With what seems to be confirmation of an MCU Legacy wave, I hope all the missing Iron Man and War Machine variants come in those. I remember even saying I’d prefer to get the missing variants in a legacy wave over taking up the CMF slots. Welp its here now. Really hope this opens up the possibility of the CMF being comic based. As for the rest, glad the Avengers wave is a legacy wave. As for what a final battle could be, I could see a portion of the compound with exploding and deteriorating features. Thanos came with an army and had a few sizeable ships on his side. The portals the heroes came through could be brick built with a feature to have the figures coming through. A little wrecked building with large portals and some alien ships (several were pretty large at that) and I can see a final battle being made. Really hoping we get comic versions of Ant-Man, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and maybe Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel in the CMF series. And all the missing MCU variants in the sets. -

@Scarilian not sure Lego would release Surtur as a big figure. They’ve typically been fairly accurate in MCU sets and figures (spare the boring endgame quantum suits). Surtur was huge, and broke through the bridge, he would surely be at least the size of the Molten Man build (FFH). -

I the idea of mini fig packs. They have a lot of potential. Wish they did more than just 1 new fig and 1 new print for the roster, and maybe do 2 entirely new no new mould necessary characters and maybe an exclusive third variant and 1 repeat. Thats 1 repeat 1 variant existing fig 2 new figs. The 2020 pack with Widow and Falcon was mostly good. The aim agents are good to army build and falcon was new. Wish Black Widow was also a new fig that would be so exciting. Wish Venom was like a comics shocker, it wouldn’t need a new mould but we’d all love to see it. Or an updated variant of Beetle. If we got more than just 1 new fig a pack these could be hits. -
I think its been confirmed at this point.

Yeah it seems the Series is back to feeling like a gamble thats hard to complete. I was so excited about the codes and figure order I swore I would finally be able to complete the series in peace. Major disappointment.

Just found the set image. • Eeyore is my favorite mould. Very well done. • Piglet and Pooh make more sense around the other figures • House is a bit on the smaller compact side, I think it could have done with just a little bit more room. He never had a spacious house but this is just tiny •Silhouette works well and the tree looks nice • Pooh still needs a belly mould and looks ridiculous with his skinny lego body and big bear head. Should have had a Gamorrean Guard type mould with a belly attached to the head. He looks like Winnie on a diet. • Very open to more sets that expand on the cast. Isn’t there a Kangaroo with a baby? I want her!! Not sure what more sets can be made but I’m down. There’s a human too? Lets not make this an entire license but maybe a few more sets like Ghostbusters had.
-
Haven’t seen the leaked set image yet (feel free to PM me what Twitter account its on) but thoughts on the mini figs • Winnie needed a belly. Looking at the figure the dimensions are too flat and the printed belly does not have the impact needed on the figure. The Gamorrean Guard and Chewbacca pieces accomplish this, by having the head piece connect to a belly portion. Pooh’s head mould should have included a round belly as well that went over the entire torso similar to Chewbacca’s head mould. And the new mid sized pose-able legs introduced in the harry Potter series would have done better for the figure as well. Piglet looks off as well not sure why.

@Johnny1360 the only 2 sets left for the year is a $40 Batman set and a $230 Batman set. Personally banking on both having at least one new figure. Hope next year is better.

So frustrated with that controversy. Lego depicts the characters as they were depicted, pin the racism and cultural theft on George Lucas if anything. Also not to get political but can we not give cultures exclusive access to architecture? Can we not gate-keep architecture? This may not be the place to have this discussion but I don’t like the idea of giving a culture a monopoly on say, the dome. And if anyones to blame its Lucasfilm, why’d they wait until Jabbas Palace was a toy to make this critique? It was a scene in a movie for decades before Lego produced it. Has this always been a concern, that Jabba’s Palace borrows from Islam and depicts Easterners as dangerous? Hadn’t heard of this take till the Lego controversy actually.

Minifigures • Mon Mothma - it’s been too long!! • Shaak Ti - so many Clone Wars designs have been updated for the movie version, can she be next? • Kit Fisto - his mold hasn’t looked “right” in a long time but especially as characters like Yoda and Chewbacca received updates over the years, his design became noticeably dated. • Plo Koon - not the worst but he’s also had the same mould for years and his head should not be so thin, a little on the rounder side is more correct • Zam Wessel - I mean who’d be mad at her getting an update? She only has a yellow release I believe, would love to see her updated with modern 2021 fleshie print. • Mas Ammeda - come on, you were thinking it. Its high time he got an official release • Bo-Kotan - wanted her in her clone wars days but now she’s just a must have with the Mandalorian show airing. would like either Mulan’s hairpiece in a dark orange or Lego friends Anna hair in dark orange. • Sy Snootles - people hated the ‘97 update to Episode 6 for not delivering and having a lackluster update of her band. Personally enjoyed the addition of more band mates and it certainly did not detract from the film. She’s also had a clone wars appearance I believe. Lets get her already. • Droopy Mccool - Unlikely to have so many new moulds for figures who barely appeared in the movies but one can hope. Particularly enjoy his design • Ak-Rev - he actually could get away with just a head print. Could see them giving him a bandana maybe. • Doda Bodanawieedo - could just use the Greedo headpiece in a lighter color with lashes printed maybe. easy to make. • Barquin D’an - again, a mould for the Biths exist already. • Lyn Me - I can’t be the only person who loves the Twi’lek design? I’ll gladly take more and again a mould exists! Who doesn’t like a new Twi’lek minifigure? •Rystall Sant - Okay she’ll need a new mould but I really enjoy her design. Also her hair would be a spikey scalped poofy hair mould and I figure that can be reused for in house IP’s such as Ninjago or Monkey Kid. Did not care for Joh Yowza or Umpass Stay so we can skip those figures. I’ve been quite bored with this theme in recent years. 2013 Episode 2 wave was solid, enjoyed Rogue One and the Sequel Trilogy waves (not movies) and Solo got a good wave of sets despite not seeing the film. But it feels like the standards sets have gotten so boring. Winter and Summer Waves have all become a bore. Love the new D2C’s. Cloud City and Mos Eisley were great. But the average wave is boring me. Here are some newish (not really) ideas. Kind of fresh make of it what you will: • Jedi Temple - Could be a mega set and would not mind add-ons similar to Hogwarts, but a bit more complex so when combined can provide fully enclosed portions of the build. This could be where Shaak Ti and Kit Fisto get their updates. Jedi Council room, various rooms from the clone wars, funeral room, main entrance, there’s a lot that can be covered and I’m open to many builds taking on the various facets. • Episode 2 Bounty Hunter Chase Update - if we’re getting the same old same old can we at least update it? • Jabbas Palace D2C - I’ll be the first to admit I absolutely adored the 2012 take on the structure and its one of my best sets to date. That said, if a $400 Jabbas Palace dropped with the Max Rebo Band, a fully enclosed palace, a very large and movie accurate take on the building, as well as various guards and maybe some other members of the entourage that were used as supporting characters in Jabba’s Palace, I’d be very happy. Including the dungeon used to house Chewwy and Han, I do and don’t want it to include the Rancor Pit. First priority is a much bigger and detailed palace and if the inclusion of the rancor pit minimizes those details I’d like it to be a separate set (maybe not a D2C but big enough to connect to the D2C • Kashyyyk Base - We’ve gotten sets based on this episode 3 scene but a full tree base with yoda’s room and the recreation of the order 66 scene have yet to be seen. Doesn’t need to be exclusive could just be a large set. • Episode 6 Endor Battle Update - nuff said. Believe we got a set for this in 2010 but its due time.

Did we talk about the leaked set prices for the rest of the year? 43108 - $4.99 43109 - $19.99 43110 - $19.99 43111 - $29.99 43112 - $29.99 43113 - $49.99 43114 - $59.99 43115 - $99.99 I have to say if these are true I am incredibly surprised by the prices. With such a new theme I was not expecting an entire wave like this? Its a size able wave with decent prices. With how out there the concepts were for a lot of the characters and the nature of a boom box set with in-app features, I have no expectations for these sets. Ice-Cream Mermaids inside Beat-Boxes that serve play features for a phone game came out of left field for me. These sets can be absolutely anything. Just shocked they invested so many new moulds AND heavy set prices to such a new theme. I think there were rumors of a stage? Very excited to see what this is.

Not just that, but on an individual level I don’t think it works. In general, I think cloth skirts can continue being used assuming the piece is appropriate for the figure. Marvins skirt protrudes and kind of puffs out of his body. It doesn’t flap down. A cloth piece would not have the same rigid texture a plastic piece would have, which is what Marvin needs. A cloth piece will kind of droop down and his skirt puffs out, like a plastic piece would.

Thoughts on the new accessory pack Black Suit Spider Ham - Literally who asked for this? I love it lol Spiderman - The arm printing looks excessive with plain legs not a fan Venom - Can someone remind Lego Spidey has other villains? Wish they gave him his tentacles like they did in 2013 (yes I am aware thats not how its called) Iron Venom (?) - I assume he actually is from the comics. Uninterested and this just devalues that set he appeared in even more. Not only were Carnage and Spidey already accessible but now no figure in that set is exclusive. And the build was weak. I guess thanks for making him easier to get for the 12 fans who wanted him Not sure how to feel about characters who appear so frequently being used for character packs. Wish Black Suit Spider Ham wasn’t the only exclusive figure. Just a tad bored with Spidey + Venom combo -
Appreciate the criticism everyone. This is absolutely not a guaranteed situation. Its fair to say news regarding both the DC movies and comics is consistently bleak but I suppose the discontinuation of new print is only an issue if and when its finally implemented. I‘ve heard rumors of rich fans offering to buy the publishing rights from Warner, reports that AT&T was being extra scrupulous with their handling of the comics publishing and whether it was worth the money. I’ll admit for now its not a credible report. Having said all of that, if DC is to survive I hope the editorial purges and renewed attention to its management will put an emphasis on the brand and we’ll start to see a return to the quality of art I once associated with DC comics.
