Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
The Stud replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Eh, as long as it has colorful characters and a cool build, I’m sure kids will be happy. Even if they don’t comprehend the narrative of WandaVision, they are most likely aware of the titular characters based off their appearances in the films. Also that Shang Chi set looks great! The reuse of minifigure face prints is pretty meh, but the rest of the set is phenomenal. I hope Lego Marvel sticks with making great, unique builds with plenty of minifigures. I have high hopes for the quality of the theme going forward. -
Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
The Stud replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I didn’t even think the movie was that bad. It’s worthy of a lot of the flak it gets though: There are serious issues with the pacing, editing, and characters that could’ve been mended if the film was pushed back again, or maybe if they had stuck with some of their earlier ideas. It’s easily the worst Lego Movie, and a poor representation of the Ninjago show, but I still think it’s still an okay movie. Don’t get me wrong; there are some truly awful scenes, like the live-action scenes that bookend the movie, the footage that is obviously reused from earlier in the movie, and some of the cringeworthy meme montages. At the end of the day though, it’s still a much better movie than anything from Illumination and most of Dreamworks. Lloyd and Garmadon carry this movie, which is fitting because they’re the only non-two dimensional characters. In my opinion, their relationship is the most compelling of all the father/son relationships found in this series. Kudos to the actors for giving their all with some of the more sentimental moments between the two. Garmadon is arguably the funniest character in any of the Lego Movies thus far. The animation is just as gorgeous as the other Lego flicks, there is some good jokes to be found, and the soundtrack is actually pretty decent. Really it’s a shame that it came out so half-baked, because if the movie had more time in the oven, it could’ve been on par with the other Lego spin-offs/sequels. Again, some of the earlier ideas they had for this movie (based off the deleted scenes and concept art) were great and could’ve saved the movie if they came to fruition. Come to think of it, forget the Snyder Cut. I want the original draft of The Lego Ninjago Movie made!- 4,591 replies

No Way Home is a great title! I’m very hyped for this movie and hope that it doesn’t get pushed back until next year. I also really hope that we end up getting more than 2-3 sets for it, but we’ll just have to wait and see. -

I definitely agree. A lot of people seem to think that they’re creepy, but I really like them. They’ll go really well with the Lego Disney display I plan on making this year. I think I’ve decided that I’m going to get the Plane and Fire Station sets and then maybe Bricklink the figures from the other two. I just hope that they’re not too overpriced or anything. -
LEGO Ninjago 2021

This is my outlook on current Ninjago as well. It keeps Ninjago fresh (even if they may be straying a little far from its roots) and allows Lego to do waves based on other tropes. Whether it be because of lack of interest from consumers or bad decisions on Lego’s part, Lego has not had the best of luck with most of their in-house themes the last few years. Chima, Galaxy Squad, Ultra Agents, Nexo Knights, Elves, the last Castle theme, the last Pirates theme, and Hidden Side were all far from big hits, which has led to Lego largely sticking with what has reliably sold well: Ninjago, City, and Friends. At the end of the day, I personally care about the quality of the set more than what theme it’s a part of. Some of the recent Ninjago waves don’t entirely fit my vision of what Ninjago sets should be, but there have still been some stellar sets in spite of this. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
The Stud replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don’t have time to share my full wanted list right now, but I’m just going to say once more that I want Lego Jedi: Fallen Order to happen! I was lucky enough to attend the panel for it at Star Wars Celebration in 2019 and loved the game when it came out. It’s also the only major piece of Star Wars content within the last few years to not get any Lego sets. I also don’t buy that the game was too violent for Lego to make sets off of, which is what some of the designers claimed. Briefly going off of what I said in the previous thread, my tinfoil-hat-theory was that the Death Star Cannon set was originally supposed to be a Fallen Order set that got cancelled and replaced with a random OT set at the last minute. No evidence to back that up, I just find it weird that Lego was the only brand to not do products for all three properties on Triple Force Friday and in my eyes, that $20 set is the only one that could have possibly been related to Fallen Order in my eyes. Anyhow, I still think a Stinger Mantis is possible whenever the sequel comes out (rumored/speculated to be sometime next year), but I don’t expect much else based off the game. Still, I got a couple ideas for a few other sets that I still dream of. TIE Interceptor ($40): Finally, a new Imperial TIE Interceptor! This one would be at the same scale as the 2021 TIE and the minifigures would include the Second Sister (New!), a Purge Trooper (New!), and an Astromech Droid (New!). AT-ST ($50): A remake of the RO/Mando AT-ST, maybe a little scaled better than those two. The minifigures would be Cal Kestis with his Bracca poncho (New!), Saw Gerrera (New!), electro baton Scout Trooper (New!), and an AT-ST Driver (same as last one with new helmet mold). BD-1 ($60): A set just like those brick built BD-1 MOCs. It would be scaled with those BB-8, R2-D2, etc. sets. It would come with a BD-1 minifigure (New!). The Stinger Mantis ($130): Like I said before, I still think this one is still a big possibility. The build would have a similar scale, price and piece count to Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle and the Razor Crest. The minifigures would include Cal Kestis without a poncho, BD-1, Nightsister Merrin (New!), Cere Junda (New!), and Greez Dritus (New!). -
Wow, this is such a cool MOC! Seriously though, nicely done.

I’ve always wanted a Donald Tug Boat set! It would be absolutely stellar if Lego finally made it! -

Okay, I’ve seen pictures of the sets now and I have to say that I’m pleasantly surprised Lego’s doing this! I grew up as a huge Disney fan and always wished that Lego would do a full-on Disney line. The D2Cs and CMF series we got were like I wanted but not the fullest extent. And while I hope Lego eventually branches out of making every non-D2C or non-minidoll Disney or Pixar set in the 4+ range, this at least gives us some cool stuff! I’m actually considering buying the sets and not just the minifigures. Despite their obvious simplicity, the builds actually look pretty decent and properly cartoonish. I love all the variants of Mickey and Minnie that we’re getting, plus a new version of Daisy and finally having a cheap way to get that elusive Goofy minifigure! I’m also ecstatic to see that we’re finally getting a Pluto figure! It’s a bit odd that Donald’s not included in any of these sets, but I got a bunch of duplicates of him in the first series anyway, so I’m not too bothered. Lastly, I love the new “Hidden Mickey” piece! These sets will be a nice appetizer for the next Disney CMF and D2C which will hopefully be coming out in 2022. -

Whoa, could someone send me pictures of these Mickey sets as well? Smaller Disney sets without minidolls and the same type of figures as the D2C and CMFs sound amazing to me! -

I’ll share my thoughts as well: 71753 Attack of the Fire Dragon: Pretty decent looking dragon. It’s not particularly unique or innovative, but it’s a nice model and I’m determined to get all of the Golden Ninja, so it’s on my buy list. 71739 Ultra Sonic Raider: It looks very ah, interesting. Not necessarily in a bad way, I’m just not used to seeing an Ultra Sonic/Stealth Raider being so small. It almost looks like a 4+ set, but it’s still a decent looking model. It looks smaller or an equivalent size to the recent X-1 Ninja Charger which is... odd. Again, I’m collecting all the Golden Ninja, so I’ll most likely get this, unless the Golden Zane ends up being inexpensive on Bricklink. 71750 Lloyd’s Hydro Mech: Meh. It’s an average looking mech with some cool pieces, but I’d probably only get it for the figures. 71752 [I forgot the name lol]: Another meh. Not necessarily a bad build, but it’s something that will get more enjoyment from the young ones. A little silly for Ninjago to have an underwater car, but Lego sorta pulled it off. Side note, but it’s weird to see Cole with some sort of tranq gun. 71754 Water Dragon: A gorgeous looking dragon! The little submarine is cool too and it seems like there will be some cool figs included! Definitely going on my want list! 71755 [Something something temple]: An amazing Atlantis-esque temple build! The big sea snake looks great and it seems like there will be some more cool figures in this set as well! 71756 Hydro Bounty: Pleasantly surprised by this set! I didn’t care much for the Land Bounty, so I sorta rolled my eyes when I read the rumor for this set. I’m happy to say that the build actually looks pretty cool and I love the chariot-looking side build. I’m just not sure if I’m gonna have room in the budget for this set, or this wave in general, but it’s definitely on the maybe list! Overall, I’m generally impressed with this wave! There are some great builds here and I look forward to seeing some of the minifigures we’ll be getting. The Legacy sets are a little lacking this time around, but the Season 14/15 sets make up for that! I’m glad to see Lego still keeping Ninjago fresh after 10 years! -

Where did you find it at? I just checked Insta and didn’t see it anywhere. -
The Scuttler is actually one of the few TLBM sets I actually ended up getting, but I ended up using it for parts. I still have the figures and they’re all great! I also think Gotham Knights would be a great source to make new sets off of, but we’ll see if Lego capitalizes on it. (Probably not sadly.)
-
I second this. I’m not a big DC fan (the only movies I’ve seen are Justice League and The Lego Batman Movie, though that will change soon) but I have been watching Batman: The Animated Series recently. It’s really good and there is so much potential for sets and minifigures from that show. Hopefully Lego takes advantage of the rumored sequel series to revamp Lego DC. In the meantime though, I’ve actually been looking into getting more of TLBM sets that I missed out on, since I skipped out on most of them when they were out. I somehow found a random Catwoman Catcycle Chase set at Walmart recently and have the Riddler set on the way, and I’m hoping to get some more sets in the near future. From what I’ve found on Bricklink, they really haven’t gone up in price that much.

LEGO Ninjago 2021
The Stud replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I just hope the new dragon and Raider sets are different enough from what I already have in my collection. For the other Legacy 10th Anniversary sets, I could easily justify them beyond celebrating this occasion. For these two new ones, however, I already have Firstbourne and the Ultra Stealth Raider on display so I just hope these new sets are distinctive enough from what I already have. Tangent aside, I wonder what minifigures will come with these. We already got Legacy 3 Zane and are still waiting for the other ninja in their Legacy Deepstone outfits. It would be weird if we got Legacy 3 Zane a whole year before we get any of the other ninja, but then again, we never got a Legacy 2 Zane so it wouldn’t be the craziest thing. And bare with me for another tangent, but I really hope Lego dials back on the Kai centric sets next year. By the time this new Dragon comes out, we will have that, the 2020 Mech Jet, the Fire Stone Mech, the Kai Fighter, the X-1 Ninja Charger, and the new catamaran on shelves all at the same time. I’m sure it’s probably because Kai sets sell the best with the kids, and he was the original main character after all, but it’s being a little overdone at this point. That’s just a small gripe though; if anything it makes my purchasing decisions easier! -

Okay, that’s a badass line that I’ll be using in the future! Anyway, I haven’t really been keeping up with the discussion here, so apologies if I’m just reiterating what someone else said, but I don’t understand what’s stopping Lego from just doing a set from each of the top three or four themes in this vote. I mean, yeah, that’s three or four times as many sets they have to design and release, but obviously there’s enough interest in each of them for there to be such a debate going on online. For Pirates and Classic Space in particular, AFOLs go nuts every time a set like Barracuda Bay or Benny’s Spaceship comes out, and they seemingly sell pretty well each time. (Remember how hard to find Benny’s Space Squad was when that first came out?) Why not just do one set for each of the top picks and just release them with each quarter of the year?

Could Lego really help with depression and anxiety?
The Stud replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I struggle with both, and Lego definitely helps. Building Lego sets or sorting my bricks or changing my set displays around all help me take my mind off all of my stress and insecurities for a few hours. It may not be the most, um, cheap way of dealing with it, but it helps! With how dull and gloomy the world tends to be, putting together some colorful plastic bricks does wonders for me. -
I’d say there’s a good chance of that. Lego knows that these special anniversary sets/minifigures draw people in, so I imagine we’ll get something once DC passes a certain threshold. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lego does something for Marvel next year. It’s the ten year anniversary of the first Avengers film as well as Lego Marvel Super Heroes in general.

REVIEW: 71741 Ninjago City Gardens
The Stud replied to Pchan1983's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
From my understanding, the Lego Ninjago Movie sets still sold well despite their association with the underperforming film. The sets received a ton of praise from the Lego community at least, especially the larger ones like Ninjago City. They didn’t continue the Movie sub-theme because Lego Movie lines don’t last long anyway and there also just wasn’t much left to be made from the movie. I believe that Lego only wanted to do the City and Docks while the Movie was still relevant and they had a couple reasons not to release any other Ninjago City expansions, or Ninjago D2Cs in general, during 2019 or 2020: -They didn’t want to have three $200+ Ninjago sets out at the same time since the two City sets were still available in 2019. -They might not have wanted a new Ninjago D2C competing with their Lego Movie 2 D2C that would have been around the same size and price point in 2019, especially if they were to keep the Ninjago Movie branding. -They didn’t want a D2C Ninjago set competing with their aesthetically similar Monkie Kid line in 2020, which were all released as D2Cs in America. -They just figured 2021 would be the next best time to do another Ninjago D2C set since that would be the next best time to do one, seeing as how the 10 Year Anniversary gives the theme some relevancy. I definitely wouldn’t count out the possibility of future Ninjago City expansions, in fact I’d say it’s even likely if the Gardens is successful, but I wouldn’t say that all future Ninjago D2Cs necessarily have to be part of this little subtheme. There could be other large sets like the Temple of Airjitzu someday. I don’t expect these sets to be a regular thing, but I sure wouldn’t mind if they were! As for the Gardens in particular, I still think it looks great! I’ve recently rediscovered how fun Ninjago sets are to build with the new Legacy wave and look forward to building the largest Ninjago set yet. I was planning on waiting until June to get this set, but I don’t know how long I can wait to get this thing! Every review I read or watch makes me more eager to have it. The only thing stopping me is now not being a good time to build another large Lego set, since I’m going to have to temporarily move out my entire collection soon. I also need to install some new shelves so I can open up space for this behemoth! -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
The Stud replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow, maybe I was too harsh in my disappointment with Lego Marvel recently. The way I see it, this Korg figure can only be coming in the the D2C or one of the summer sets (which is much less likely but still on the table)), unless we’re getting some unforeseen retail exclusive. I guess we just have to wait and see at this point. -
I was amazed to find a Lego Batman Movie set still out in the wild today. A beat up 70902 Catwoman Catcycle Chase was just laying on a shelf in Walmart! I’m guessing the employees must have just found the set hiding underneath a shelf or something. Very weird, but this wasn’t the first time I’ve seen or heard of somebody finding a long-discontinued Lego set at a Walmart. I tried to check its price with the Walmart app, but the set was so old that it couldn’t pull anything up for it! It ended up still being the full retail price when I brought it to self-checkout but I still got it anyway, since it was one of many TLBM sets I never ended up getting.
-
Whoa, I’m usually pretty accepting of Lego’s pricing, but this is ridiculous. Seriously though, I’d be happy with any Fallen Order sets at this point, let alone a whole wave. I don’t know why Lego didn’t do anything for Fallen Order on Triple Force Friday either. Tinfoil hat here, but what if that random Death Star Turret set was originally supposed to be a small Fallen Order playset? Maybe Lego caught wind of the game’s rating and and/or decided a random OT set would have been more cost effective (which didn’t really work out since the set ended up being a shelf warmer.) Lego would have had to make new molds for the Second Sister’s helmet and BD-1 after all, and maybe they couldn’t or simply didn’t want to go through with that. I guess beyond a small playset, they were pretty limited on choices. They couldn’t do a Mantis because they weren’t sure how well that would sell; they couldn’t do a TIE Interceptor because Vonreg’s was already on the market; they couldn’t do an AT-ST because they were already doing one for Mando. Maybe if The Mandalorian wasn’t coming out yet, the Razor Crest wouldn’t have been fast-tracked and we would have gotten a Mantis at that price point instead.
