  1. Does anyone think we will get the entire Dwarf company in this second wave of sets, or will there only be limited numbers of them. We did not get the entire fellowship in the second wave of LoTR (Gimli {*2} Legolas, Frodo, Gandolf {both gray and white} and Aragorn {both ranger and Gondor}.

  4. Lego should not want to drive up the price or desirableness of free sets. They are "free" Lego makes no money from the secondary market.
  5. Here is a full text of my letter to Lego on COMIC CON, there response and my follow on note: July 29, 2013 Dear Lego, I am a long time Lego fan, over 25 years as an adult, with a collection of sets in excess of 1000 – not counting the Collectable Mini-figures. Pictures of parts of my collection reside on http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=dgh As a dedicated fan of Lego, raising three future Adult Fans of Lego (AFOL), I am writing to complain about your presence at COMIC CON in San Diego. My thoughts and observations 1. We attended on Thursday July 18, 2013 and arrived at the booth around 1215pm. There was chaos at the site as your company attempted a raffle for the give-away superhero figures and the San Diego Fire Marshal shut down the raffle after about 15 minutes. The staff seemed overmatched for the event and came across as surly to attendees trying to get information. 2. There was one roll-out ne item onThursday. I was specifically looking for images or sets behind glass for the December Hobbit Movie, Star Wars and/or the new Collectable Mini-figure line. I had to see new images of new CMF from a site in Poland and se the new Hobbit set late in the Weekend. 3. The Lego booth had an amateurish feel of a mock-up retail store from the play area to the static display to the retail store selling items available on the common market. The vast majority of attendees were Adults so valuable space was lost to have four play building areas. Seeing other booths and the extent they went to showcase their brand really outclassed the Lego Booth. 4. Exclusives were a major disappointment. I would have thought Lego could have produced hundreds if not thousands of the exclusive minifigures and the two COMIC CON exclusive sets and sold them at a modest price point – faring much better than trying to pass out limited quantities. The secondary market on ebay and other websites had these figures up that weekend for outrageous prices, I don’t think that this is good for the brand either the marketing to children or AFOL. Having a badge to allow the purchase of a figure and or a special set drives up Lego profit and the larger quantities of items will drive down the aftermarket profits. I would have easily paid five dollars for a figure and $15.00 or 20.00 for exclusives sets (both the Hobbit and Star Wars). Paying for exclusives could have also allowed the company to offer a wider array of exclusive figures and sets. 5. Other booths gave away posters, pens, clips, or other general swag. The Lego booth seemed to be a place to sell commonly sold items. I even prominently displayed my VIP card with my badge as I walked through the Convention Center – until after my experience with the second chance sale for the exclusive sets. Your site gave away chances to buy the Hobbit or Star Wars sets. Those not purchased by 4pm were then sold out to anyone, only the line for that second chance was around the booth by 3:45pm. I have over 5,500 Lego castle figures, 1000 Lego castle sets, several hundred Star Wars and other figures and set and over 950 Collectable Minifigures. I cannot give you any positive feedback whatsoever on my experience and unfortunately I am giving back reviews to friends and posting on Lego fan websites. Your Company did a disservice to the Lego Brand at COMIC CON 2013. Very Respectfully, > Dear Donald, > > Thank you for contacting us on 07/29/13 and for your interest in LEGO® brand products. > > We apologize for the disappointing experience you had at Comic Con this year. It certainly is not our intention to disappoint our valued fans. We appreciate your feedback in regards to getting the exclusive LEGO minifigures. Unfortunately, Donald, we did need to make a late change to the process in order to remain in compliance with fire safety regulations. We apologize if this was not communicated effectively to you and will take your comments into consideration as we plan for other events. > > Isn’t it exciting that there are so many new LEGO sets every year? It’s great to see you’re eagerly waiting and trying to find out about what we’ve planned for the future. Just so you know, our new toys are always kept secret until they’re announced in the catalogue or on LEGO.com. That’s because it takes a long time to design and make new toys, and we sometimes need every minute until they hit the shelves to make them perfect. Besides... we look forward to surprising you! > > As you know, there were two exclusive mini sets sold at our Comic Con booths. For The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™, we had Micro-Scale Bag End and for Star Wars™, we had the Jek-14™ Mini Stealth Starfighter. We handed out tickets to the first few hundred people that showed up at our booth every day on a first come, first serve basis. There were a total of 1,000 of each set made, and the price for each set was $39.99. We had to manage the manufacturing schedule of these exclusive items on top of our tight guidelines for producing our standard assortment. We are just not able to make more that the allotted amount and still meet our manufacturing timeframes for our standard sets. > > We try really hard to make sure everything we do is imaginative, creative and fun, just like our toys. Donald, I'm sorry to hear you think we got it wrong this time. Listening to what LEGO fans have to say helps us get better so I'm going to pass your comments on to the team in charge of Events. We appreciate the time you took to express your concerns to us. > > Thank you so much for your loyalty and passion for LEGO products. We certainly value your business and appreciate your loyalty as a member of our VIP program! It is truly appreciated. If you have any further questions, Donald, please feel free to reply to this email or call one of our friendly Customer Care Advisors at 1-800-835-4386. Please have your reference number handy if you need to get in touch with us: 033722421A > > Happy building as you never know where your imagination will take you! > > Moira > LEGO Consumer Services Moria, Thank you for your response. I have spoken to many Lego fans and have read the blogs to find out that these problems are recurring at COMIC CON. Your Company is beginning to develop "bad press" over this event. Whether your company is inclined to acknowledge, review and or accept any of my suggestions for improving the design of the booth, distribution of exclusives, selling of exclusive figures tied to the event, reducing the instance of price gouging on the secondary market or you decide to file my comments somewhere in the back and bottom of a desk - I have vented my frustrations and will eventually share them with the Lego community along with your response. Being plugged into Eurobricks, Brickset, FBTB, The Brothers Brick and others; I am not inclined to share your view that the company has complete control over the release of information about new lines and sets. So to think that you do have control is naieve on your company's part. The adult community knows the names of sets and sees leaked pictures far in advance - this is not a bad thing we like to plan and project future purchases we do spend quite a bit of money on this hobby. I am not going to jump on the conspiracy band wagon about how the exclusives were given away at COMIC CON; suffice to say, the poor public relations machine is getting away from you. I need no encouragement to buy more Lego sets and to maintain my interest, but I find it less likely that I will encourage young parents to invest in a a toy brand that is not inexpensive "as toys your children can keep for a lifetime and pass down to their children". Some of your most successful lines; city, space, train and castle are infact timeless. Where young adults can continue to add to thier collections to one day pass them down. Fostering that demographic should be a priority of your company - because this group are the ones that have the funds to buy in large quantities and make amazing creations. Regretfully, Don Herko Super Goblin please contact me by the Eurobrick mail function
  6. I wrote a letter to Lego and will wait for their response before posting, I will say to defeat the secondary market and not create a fire hazard on the florr of the convention center, Lego just needs to make thousands of the exclusive figures, sell them for five dollars each (one to each attendee) and sell the remainder to VIP I was there on Thursday, and it was bad enough that they screwed up this give away again this year as they have the past several years, but the staff was "surley" to say the least. I paid for five plane tickets, admission fees, rental cars, hotel rooms and costumes for three teenage boys my wife and I. I just wanted to see their display, I was underwehlmed. The trip was a great success for my boys. The only Lego I walked away with was a series three elf I found at the far end of the floor. The booth owner allow me to feel through the packaging and I paid five bucks for my 42nd Elf.
  7. I took my whole family, wife and three teenagers and thought I would come away with maybe one or two of the green arrow figs. I ended up finding a vendor selling old series cmf and I came away with a single elf But an aftermarket pick-up for five bucks is a real disappointment. I did see the new star wars set, but I wanted the DoS sets and CMF reveal. What was worse is the overall impression of the lego crew there that they had a huge screw-up and it was not a big deal they just said it might get better tomorrow, but not having a four day pass, Thursday was my only shot at adding to my collection. I have added photos in the new folder for LOTR and Hobbit as well as the grand troll army. The green arrow character would have been a great addition to the elf faction. I think as one of the riders than attacked the orcs when Gandolf let the troop to Rivendale(sic) Lego seems to have this problem for years now and does not get better. I think bad PR is the only way to force change
  8. I attended SDCC yesterday, arrived about 11 am am got to the LEGO site near noon. I was completely UNDERWHELMED with the display. I expected more for the adult fan and saw next to nothing. The exclusive giveaway caused a near riot that the fire marshal disbursed the crowd. the two exclusive sets looked great but there were not near enough to satisfy the crowd, the small retail site had nothing I could not buy at any Lego store or TRU. the building stations were lifted right out of a store and today we get photos of CMF 11 from poland I will be writing a letter to the company soon. dgh
  9. Thanks for the correction - s11. My wife promised a new camera for the trip, hope to load up with good pics
  10. Not to brag, but I got Comic Con tix for me and the family for Thursday, first stop - booth 2829 the lego exhibit. Think we are gonna see S10 there
  11. Dannylonglegs- Photos of elves and dwarves is on my brickshelf link sub folders "eldern" and "valdi"
  12. favorite - Elf Most Highlanders - 80 Dwarves - 80 Roman Soldiers - 69 evil knights - 62 muskateers - 56 Spartans - 55 Gladiators - 50 Minotaur - 45 Elves - 41 Pharaohs - 39 Vikings - 33 Female charactors Viking woman - 20 Warrior woman - 13 and counting Mermaid - 8 egyptian queen - 7 cave woman - 6 forest maiden - 5 trends few of early series due to narrow distribution and production (borders books closing down did help to get clearance items) best army builder figures #10 (roman cdr, warrior woman, tomahawk, revolutionary, medusa) #6 (celtic, minotaur, roman) , #3 (Elf, samurai, tribal chief), #7 (aztec, evil knight, viking woman), #4 (viking muskateer), #5 (dwarf, gladiator) #2 (Spartan Pharaoh)
  13. Amazing model. I really love that the small gate in front looks like the standard gate set we have got from the lego castle line for years. It gives us a good scale for the effort you have truly put into this model. This is a dark age design with a Roman influence. Having visited some sites in Europe, the Romans built large imposing structures to intimidate the locals, this would have intimidated all with in sight or word of mouth With any luck Lego will see this and begin to give us more interior detail in the castle line models. well done.
  14. Both, I have picked up a couple boxes of cavalry camp, will pick up a couple more, and I have noticed that some people have desigend decals for the old western set soldiers, but this new current minifigs are a darker blue and those decals would not work. I am hoping some has/will do some designs and I can get/buy them to apply to generic torsos. dgh
  15. Hello all, Has anyone developed new decals to modify minifigs to match the new US Cavalry figures in the Lone Ranger sets. The Captain Fuller figure is extremely hard to get, and I thought some may have done some work in this area. Thanks
  16. looking for a Captain Fuller, Lone Ranger train set, figue and willing to trade a Series #1 Cheerleader with POM POMs (no bag or checklist)
  17. To Alcarin or others I have a CMF Cheerleader series 1 and would like to aquire a Captain Fuller, the US cavalry officer from the Lone Ranger train set.
  18. I keep hoping for new leadership for the "baddies" the off colored crown in the LoTR Corsair set on the undead king gives me hope for a unique king of the dragons - if so we will no doubt get a quality looking figure. Like many hollywood actors say being a bad guy is more fun, they look better too dgh
  19. 6086 and the Yellow Castle (for mythical reasons) are the best. With 6074 Black Falcon Fortress an excellent set as well, deserving of the legends release. Nit-picky stuff, but we need An evil king or opposing king. We have had the black monarch castle (6085 reference only) black knight (first titled charactor), dragon master, bat lord, cedric, Vladek, evil wizard (7093), *** only bad guy king troll fortress (7097)*** and back to evil wizard (70403) Majisto - first named charactor was neither good or bad for the good forces king castle (6080 reference only), king mtn fort (6081 reference only), actual first King (6008, 6044, 6090), crazy king (2586), King Leo (6026, 6095, 6098), king mathias, king jayko, king released in set 10176, king castle seige ( 7094), king chariot (7078), king castle (7946) kings carriage (7188), kingdom joust (10233), king castle (70404) one troll king opposing over 17 "good guy" kings all wearing the arms of the lion. Even have 10 or so family member Queens, Princes and Princesses. We do have an evil vladek faction torso with a crown in the first chess set, but after that it has been vikings - gold helmets and the two most recent castle sets had wizards - one red and one green........... uguh  WE NEED A DEVELOPED OPPOSITION in a castle of great size. Please produce a dark castle and an opposing king for 2014. I am not concerned at all about the childish hearldry. So many have torso or shield stickers free or moderate price, we can change if we need to.
  20. Yes, three years ago, I did most of the photos on brickshelf when I hit 3500 minifigs. Primarily Lego castle, with some pirate, ninja, SW and LoTR influence. I always say that the figs are my favorite, I don't have the skill set that the master builders do, so I am happy in my own nitche. My collection started in 1990 with the Black Knight and the Mountain Fortress. Those photos pre-date the CMF craze which hit me hard: 1 tribal hunter, one ninja, ten woodsmen, 55 spartans, a witch, a vampire, 35 pharaohs, 20 tribal chiefs, 25 samurai, 10 mummies, 41 Elves, several sumo, hula dancer, 56 Musketeers, 3 kimonos, 35 vikings, 5 graduates, 60 gladiators, 10 royal guards, 10 ice fisherman, 60 evil dwarf, 10 egypt queen, 95 highlanders, some flamingo dancers, 44 minotaurs, 3 leprechauns, 70 roman soldiers, 25 aztecs, 3 ocean kings, 10 bagepipes, 15 viking woman, 55 evil knights, 10 lit red riding hood, 20 conquistadors, 5 lederhosen, 20 actors, 5 pirate capts, a santa, a cyclops, 2 starlets, 25 hero kinghts, 10 ceasars, 2 gypsy, a judge, 9 mermiads and 7 Forest Madiens... I will be adding updated photos this summer of all my enlarged factions. I am leaving plenty of space for the new 2013 line will get at least 50 figs (all sets at least once and eight of the ambush) I need more dogs. Just wish Lego had more horses, I have alot of knights.
  21. Lego obviously monitor these discussions, I would like to think that some of the efforts pay off and they do take some suggestions. The Lone Ranger Cavalry builder set and the Castle Ambush set might just be a prelude to a 2nd Hobbit wave figure heavy set. Even having some of the Dwarf company against an enemy at a price point of 12-15 dollars (US) - four figures and some weapons. 1. a warg attack addition with two Dwarf, two Orcs and a Warg 2. two orcs and a warg agaisnt two elves 3. two dwarfs and two goblins to add to the Goblin King set 4. Two Dwarfs and a Mountain troll (maybe even a dwarf pony) We should have at least one more wave of LoTR after the December release and one more Hobbit wave.
  22. Having been collecting since 1990, I am always happy to see any products. I have seen several dark ages from Lego, so I will do my level best to keep the line going. They will still produce enough and improve enough to keep me going another 20 years. I still say 6086 and 6074 are two of the finest castles ever, behind the mythical yellow castle. He (or She) who has the most..., wins... 5410 minifigs and counting
  23. Very interested in what the fall line of Hobbit sets are. I have read there are five sets projected, we will see all of the Dwarf company of course, but they will have to fight somebody. I will re-read the book again this summer and wait for info from COMIC CON. Seeing the Castle Line and Lone Ranger Line release the small sets as army builders, while not specifically packaged in the blister packs from past lines, maybe elf, dwarf, orc might have some promise.
  24. ambush set is a must have in quantity. Four soldiers a new style dog, pile of treasure to add to the pile for SMOG of LoTR/Hobbit, weapons, foliage $10.00 this a can't miss
  25. The LoTR and Hobbit lines are beautiful sets. And having no ability to redesign structures like many of you talented AFOLers, I don't mind keeping all the sets as originally built. My now teenage boys, who are deep into video games can still stop their LoTR total war campagins or anime watching and spend a few minutes around Lego Helm's Deep. I just have had to augment both sides to have a proper depiction of the climatic battle. King T, Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, Legolas, Haldir, four Eomer, four Rohan soldiers, five Mirkwood Elf archers and 20 shakespeare actors with silver helmets as peasant soldiers vs. 28 Uruk-Hai, seven moria orcs, two golums, one cyclops, one Cave troll, 10 large trolls (kingdoms sets) 125 regular size trolls (kingdoms sets) 44 Minotaurs will be adding more based on my brother's luck at Five Belows in Maryland So I am not complaining too much, it will just be much easier and cheaper to army built factions with the new castle line. I don't have the Goblin King set yet still have to pay for two AP( English and Biology) tests this month. I really really like castle, don't stop making them, I even have 214 of the easter egg colored knights
