  1. I had similar feelings about the Batcave shadow box, thinking that it was cool, but overpriced and that I'd wait for a sale. Then it retired with no sale and now it has decent demand with little supply, so it's expensive. This probably just means it will be remade at some point, because DC only does Batman so... I'll wait for a decent GWP/offer on the Pearl. It's expensive but looks good. I do like the Death Slice (and that's a great name for it) as a model and the way it's executed, but I don't really care for Star Wars, so won't feel anything when it retires and I haven't bought it.
  2. No, not particularly interested. Even the classic space parts are pretty close to regular green, and those are probably the only parts that tempt me. The worry is that these, and the griffon and kraken knights only come to Standard Pick a Brick which is currently unavailable in the US.
  3. Went into my local LEGO store this evening and it was sold out. It's only one store, and I don't know how many they had, but a data point to consider initial reaction.
  4. I thought it was a castle set? Elf faction? Present faction? Christmas faction? Santa and Mrs Claus the king and queen. Jousting on reindeer (just need some barding). Red and white flags. I'd put them more towards the outlaws side of things though, with Wolfpack and Forestmen, hiding in trees. More seriously, I agree that it's a bit of a pain to have to get things piecemeal as opposed to just nice sets dedicated to the relevant theme. It's fun to have all these minifigures, but without the sets to go with it, the parts supply dries up, and enthusiasm doesn't really build with new fans, so it's a vicious cycle. It's clearly making them money though, so not sure we'll see a change any time soon.
  5. I think the reaction comes from it being, probably fairly objectively: - A remake of a past idea rather than something new (another type of train or a very different style, but this is a fairly simple revamp) - Not as good in most areas as the previous train that it's being remade from - A signifiacnt price increase compared to the previous years set (and you could add a much lower piece count, although that's unfair given the nature of the pieces) You could get away with one of those things. Maybe even two. But all three means that for many it's just not great value and not what you'd prioritize. Meanwhile, the Christmas Tree HQ is very expensive, but it's novel, largely well designed, and fun. So it's 'only' a question of whether you can/want to spend the money on it.
  6. I actually bought a second copy of 60197 on a discount purely to get the Powered Up components, which I wanted for the original holiday train. It gave me extra carriages for about $15. The physical controller is so important for these as the sets will last a long time, but LEGO's app support won't. Also, my children are pretty small, so don't have phones and I don't really want them with screen devices to play with the train.
  7. The family tree is huge! At first glance I thought it was one of the $30-$50 type trees, but no, it's massive. Interesting idea although the tree itself doesn't look that great in the lifestyle video. I wonder how stable it will be when you open it all out to play. It also seems very expensive for what you get compared to say a modular building, but I'd like to see it compared to one as it might be a chunk larger than it feels.
  8. It really does feel disappointing, and I'm not sure that seeing it working will make things any better. It really is just a remake of the original, which is a lost opportunity to do a different style, and most of the updates don't appear to make sense. The lack of drive wheels makes it feel like a fake trolley conversion. The giant polar bear seems a bit odd and at fast speeds it will likely look ridiculous (and may come apart), and it doesn't feel like it could fit all the presents, which is a shame. I also don't understand the need for a 3D printed train toy. That's probably added a load of cost for not a lot of value, and it looks distinctly different from the other toys. The value just isn't there for me at $130. And it's advertising Powered Up, but, at least in the US, the 88010 controller is marked as Sold Out and has been for a long time. I assumed it had retired.
  9. And they've used a transporter room to do it! Definitely a good set for the future.
  10. I also think of the modular street as being in a city rather than a small town. I also see it as something from the 40s-60s. So a single baseplate hospital feels entirely appropriate and doesn't have to live up to the sprawling modern hospitals.
  11. Yes! Transporter room is a terrific idea. Just looked on Rebrickable to see if anyone had made one already, and only something from Voyager. Might have to try it out.
  12. Absolutely! I hope they can figure something out soon.
  13. If it does, then I can only assume that the DVD the LEGO team uses has a huge scratch over the Gondor bits, so they've never actually seen it.
  14. I agree. The hanger/star-field looks terrific. My first thoughts on seeing the leaks was to part out just that area into a standalone diorama. As for the whole set, I don't care for Star Wars enough to be interested in spending the kind of money or space required. But it's a nice way to pull everything together.
  15. It's reported on the legoleaks subreddit. It's going to be a Christmas set, featuring a large Christmas tree with interior and lots of different characters.
  16. I'm still waiting to see if Ransom_Fern does a rework of Soundwave. I really liked the Optimus and Bumblebee versions, although the official Soundwave looks pretty great, so I may keep it as is when I get it.
  17. A new Ideas GWP will be based on the Build, Paint, Play! model by Doomslizer. Selection announcement for the Build Your Favorite Hobby challenge! | LEGO® Ideas It has a blue classic space figure and light grey helmet and airtank included. Who knows whether the final version will have them all too, but one to watch. I also wonder if they will do a light grey classic space torso in this too. Or none of them, because you typically only get one new print and no moulds or recolours in GWPs...
  18. On the Pick a Brick page click on the cart on the bottom right of the screen (the grey box with the price and part count in it), which will show a list of all the individual parts selected, and click the trash bin icon on the right of the relevant piece.
  19. Ouch! Too soon! You may be right about the popularity of Ro. To me she just doesn't feel as iconic as the others, but I'm still happy to get her.
  20. [in a very quiet voice so as not to draw attention] I quite like the minidoll version of the capybara and think it works reasonably well. Same with giraffe.
  21. Very impressed with the new holiday sets. The ATAT is good fun, the gingerbread house is neat, the snowmen are rather cute, and the way some of the upscaled Santa is build looks cool (although disappointed at the lack of belt going around the corners). I think I'll have to get all of them.
  22. Good point. I wonder if DS9 would be considered too niche? I rarely see DS9 merchandise compared to anything related to an Enterprise. Would make a great midiscale model (as long as it came with the full cast).
  23. The lantern may not have sold well, judging by a 30% discount directly from LEGO, but that's not a firm indicator. They also sold the snake head piece for $11 on PAB, which was outrageous. If these are lower volume sets and they have to charge more due to unique moulds, I'd by happy with a reuse if it means a more interesting, better value set.
  24. Oh, that's a good point, I didn't pay attention to the dates. Hopefully it means they are also of decent quality.
  25. I imagine the other two are small little trinkets like the calendar and the GWP last year. I only got the lantern recently when it went on sale, and not so much for the set itself but the parts, which were crazy expensive on PAB. I hope the next batch are more tempting.
