[MOC] Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R
OnyyX replied to Gray Gear's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I swear it said on the main page of "How to order from Gobricks" that you have to have a set ordered with it, and I guess that idea was reinforced when I saw that you got the Hoonicorn set along with the blue parts for the calsonic version. I will definitely give it a go though, as there are some recolours of some of my cars that I would like to do. Are there any other potential colours that are 100% possible with parts via Gobricks? I had a little looksie and tried to find parts in that red colour I was after, but some weren't available so that was shut down real quick. -

@Gray GearYou are damn right when talking about Aliexpress sellers not caring about the final product, most of the stuff I have bought has been good, but technic stuff just gets trashed with missing parts and a bunch of mismatched colours. The only reason I haven't really used Gobricks is because its fairly foreign to me and takes a bit of work to order the parts you want. And of course you HAVE to buy a set with your parts as well but I guess they got to make money somehow. Thankfully you made the differentials easily accessible so it won't be hard to swap a real lego one in there to hopefully fix my problem. I was also going to say that the steering angle is a bit harsh but I realise its a limit of the bricks, not the design. But thankyou for putting HOG steering on there, Lego should take notes Just waiting for those guards now, bought them yesterday and shipped the same day so fingers crossed they are here soon so I can take some photos. Good luck on making 4 wheel steering if you ever go through with it -

I recently recieved and built my version of your MOC and I must say what an absolute masterpiece I will admit, I bought mine off of Aliexpress as to buy the real lego parts would have cost me upwards of two grand AUD. However I did pay for the instructions from rebrickable as the link the seller sent me was a bit shady and I didn't trust it, and I would have rather supported you in the best way I could. Anyways, in terms of the car, I love it, so damn much. It is so unique in the Lego car scene as I have only been able to find one other MOC besides my own 1:16 one that resemble an r32 GTR. The model has such a presence against all my other models and the black spec with gold wheels looks so good, I turned it into my drift car in Forza Horizon 4. The build was enjoyable and exciting, everything fits together so well and there are some absolutely amazing building techniques. Unfortunately, thanks to the quality of Chinese bricks, my gearbox doesn't work because there isn't enough friction between an axle connecting the front wheels to the differential, so it slips all the time, but it doesn't bother me at all. The gear shifting mechanism adds to its uniqueness as it is the first working Lego manual gearbox and it made some of my family members really go wow. The message on the step when attaching the battery cables gave me a good laugh, but the cable I was given is too long so I was able to use some tweezers to get it through, but it now hangs on the ground. On the topic of the parts, I wasn't given any wheel arches so I did have to message the seller and they are on their way (hopefully they are the right size), the gear box parts used on the exhaust are yellow and the tail lights are grey so I will have to paint them. Once I had finished the gearbox I soon also realised why it has been such a hassle to add 4 wheel steering in that section. If I could suggest anything, I would say you might be able to add it underneath the boot as its quite empty. The front end is great, extremely accurate and the engine is also extraordinary but trying to connect the intercooler pipes to the front end was a nightmare for me. Another nightmare was when somehow after I finished the car, the gear stick was incorrectly aligned and basically stuck, even though it was in the right way when I built it. But once again, what an absolutely amazing model and I endorse any Japanese sport car 1:8 models as there are barely any in the Lego community. Well done and I hope your next model is just as good. (I will post photos here, on Instagram(Ben.Camo24) and on rebrickable once I finish the tail light mods and get my wheel arches) -
interesting to note, still no pics on the 'mystery set'

@Gray GearI guess you could have a snoop around on Aliexpress for some 1:8 wheels but like you said there isnt much around for JDM cars. A much more expensive but worth it option would be 3D printing, but you need a printer and some good skills to figure that out. I'm sure you have seen the 'Technic rims" website (Just in case: https://technic-rims.com/collections/all) and you could re purpose some of those but they are mostly exotic and sports car rims, not suited for 90s Japanese cars. The sticker thing is understandable as I do all mine with a4 sheets of paper that I cut out. Its a long ad tedious process and tbh the paper is too thick and I need to find out how to make proper stickers. The blue really does look excellent, after having seen it for some time, ive never seen a lego model that makes me go 'wow' so many times in a row. I did some research and came across that "Guide to buying loose bricks" for Gobricks. I may or may not end up using it but Gobricks is such a useful alternative for something such as changing the body colour on a a car. -

@Gray GearWow, what a difference. That blue really stands out compared to the black. The wheels actually look pretty cool with the gold wheels which is quite unexpected. It reminds me a lot of a bayside blue R32 GTR that I saw at a Japanese car show back in February: I watched the video and I have a few questions: 1. Will you be experimenting with different wheels(I think this is an obvious yes but good to ask anyway) 2. Will you be putting a calsonic sticker sheet on it (Probably yes as well) 3. That part where it was showing the excel spreadsheet, was that a parts list for Lego or Aliexpress and where the blue parts Lego or other. I would love to know how you bulk bought all the blue parts (If it wasn't from Bricklink) as it would be very useful for some other builds of mine. Sorry for asking such abstract questions but I am quite curious Thanks -

@Gray GearMm, I guess you're right. The rear definitely is higher at the back. You could definitely keep the gearbox(once you add the 4 wheel steering) and the engine as they are pretty much the same. In terms of looking at 4 wheel steering, I think you could get some inspiration from the Technic 8880 set. I think that the steering angle on the rear wheels is a bit less though but thats up to you. Very optimistic idea i believe. -

Im a massive fan of the R34 Skyline GTR. Since the body styles are quite similair, I think you could just modify the r32 a bit and make it into an r34. I would love to know if you have a file that can be imported into Stud.io so i can mess around with it. -

True. Another colour I would settle for is dark grey, like the Nismo one. Or white maybe. Thanks, is that in like f12 mode or?? -

Mm true. Idk why but nearly everyone pictures arent loading. Its basically the dark red lego colour. My uncle owns a V spec II in that colour with bbs rims so I was hoping id be able to order one. I might remove the rollcage and bonnet scoop for a cleaner show car look. Nice MOC btw. I made one in bricks in 1:16th scale bc theres legit next to no r32 mocs on the internet bigger than speed champions scale. My favourite is still the r34 tho, so Im hoping someone does that in 1:8 as well. -

Could anyone do a body colour swap to a darker red like this one? Im curious on what it would look like. -
Im hoping they continue the Lamborghini licence and go with a double pack with a newer car and an older one. I would love an Aventador/Miura pack or a Murcielago/Diablo one. As for anything not Lamborghini related, another Japanese car brand would be nice, as the GTR from the last wave was the first Japanese car Lego had ever made up until this new Supra. Something containing another GTR like the R32 or R34 would get a thumbs up from me as well.

Now looking at the reviews for the Sian, people really don't like it because of that color issue. To me, it feels like the set was kinda rushed even though it took them 2 years to make it. The instructions are kinda crappy and the release was dodgy as well. I think it comes down to COVID mostly but I cant help but think that they should have picked a car that wasn't being designed AS they were designing their version. This might be just my bias because I would have much rathered an Aventador but I'm sure you can agree that the Sian wasn't the best choice in a production side of things. I really hope Lego learns their lesson as they should have for the last 2 cars which both had production/release issues as well.

(Posted this on the Sian page but was told to do it here) I think a good MOC idea that I've wanted as a Lego set for a long time would be an Aventador LP700. I was thinking that you could recycle the chassis, interior, engine, door mechanism and gearbox as its the same in the Aventador as the Sian. All you would have to do is change the body up a bit and modify the wing mechanism to cater for a different angle and I think it would be pretty cool. I'm eagerly waiting to see Sariel's finished Aventador because its got a lot of motorised functions. I would start designing my own but I don't have the time, money for a new Sian(Its actually been OOS in Aus for over 2 months now) or parts to design one. I will probably make some designs with the "Pimp my Lamborghini" on Stud.io but I cannot find a file for it to import into Stud.io. If anyone has a prebuilt model I would love t use it.

[MOC][WIP] Nissan R32 GTR
OnyyX replied to Gray Gear's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Is there going to be instruction and/or parts list available soon? I really love this MOC. -
The missing parts is a joke, its just because people forget parts in the bag or something like that, the manual braking is peoples rough behaviour and the colour issue isnt really an issue when u see it in real life. Trust me, you are gonna want to build it. I actually had a lot of fun and I recommend it to anyone who likes Lego or cars.
-
So just got mine delivered yesterday (after 2 weeks of waiting since my order) built it for about 5 hours in the afternoon and finished it 1pm June 16th and it took me about 10 hours. The build was fun, interesting and didn't feel repetitive. In terms of the gearbox, I only had one issue and it was my fault as I put the part in step 134 on the wrong way having the grey part face away from the gearbox, so when I finished box 2 I realised when trying to shift gears, it wasn't working. So i went back, removed the seats, dash and engine and after some violent Lego bending, I managed to fix it and it works flawlessly. If you are having issues with the gearbox, Its definitely a building error. I suggest the painful process of starting it all again to ensure you did it all right. Another issue is the colour of the green. In videos, it looks a hell of lot darker than it actually is. And the discolouration of some parts isn't as noticeable on the wing as you would think. I actually noticed while building that the colour difference is more prominent in the seats. The 2 long Technic beams with axle and hole are a much lighter green that the three long Technic lift arms that secure it to the chassis. For the wing, its the hole-with-axle pins that are yellowish green and the ones with the regular hole-and-pin that are the correct green. Another "mistake" I found in the instructions is that when applying rotor blades on the side skirt, they cant actually be applied unless you remove the black hose which is applied first. It might just be me, but I had to remove them both before i could put the blades on. Overall, I love the car. I love the wing, the opening bonnet, hood and door mechanism, visible gearbox, engine details, interior and suspension which is a big improvement from the Chiron's saggy springs. The wheels look excellent and the box really stands out from the other Technic super cars. Its very strong and rigid (even after my mistake with the gearbox) as well though be advised as Sariel said in his comparison video, when lifting it from the roof, be careful not to snap the front off otherwise it will drop. I also found a way to store the small plaque as well. It can be inserted in the bag area of the bonnet upside down with the part of the stand that has no plaque resting against the bag. I think there should have definitely been a '63' print on the black fins at the rear but this would go over multiple pieces and look as janky as the Porsche RSR's wing. The addition of 0 stickers and 100% prints is a welcome one, and I hope the next Technic car has this as well. Speaking of next Technic car, seeing as Lego likes to release cars that are fairly new as of the Lego car release date, i'm guessing the real car that it will be based on hasn't even been revealed or isn't even out yet. But I guess we will see in 2022.....

I find it kinda funny how 90% of the time the only sets we find instruction errors in is the technic 1/8 premium cars. Porsche: Box was bending the instructions Gear alignment was wrong, causing gesr changes to be 1t, 3rd, 2nd, 4th Chiron Idk if anyone else had this issue but my chirons instructions had a red outline for what part was new on each step in the 2nd booklet, but not in the 1st Sian Headlight part needed to be flipped Pin dissapearing in multiple steps
