Your image is too large. Can you resize to max 1024 wide? -

Hi. It's better to use Flickr or Bricksafe and embed your images, instead of attaching them. The details are hardly visible this way. -

In your case, it has nothing to do with lack of talent. It's actually a pretty cool picture, but you lack a proper backdrop and lighting. That's a simple matter of investing some money Or try taking outdoor shots. There are some great examples in this topic. -
Creating empty, useless topics
Jim replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You are absolutely right, each EB member should be treated with respect. However, there are some things that will help a beginner gain respect. Some of them still seem to be intimidated by the "pro" builders. In my opinion the single most imortant thing for a beginner to do, is create a topic with proper information and acceptable pictures. Even if you are not good at building and you think your English is not good enough (which most of the time is hardly the case) it's best to write a little introductory text. By starting with some text/information you kind of build a relationship with the reader. The reader understands what the person is trying to accomplish. What often happens, is that a beginner creates a topic with a single picture, or with a link to another website. You can't expect people to post a constructive response , because there's nothing to respond to. There's no request, there's no information, etc. So my advice is, always post some information supporting your pics. And post decent pics. Every modern phone can take pretty decent pictures, especially outdoors. And if you see that the picture is blurry, don't use it. Shoot it again, with proper focus. Wait till your phone shows the autofocus rectangle and shoot. It's really not that hard, you just need to take a little time. It's not a big deal if you ain't the best builder in the world, but take a little time and put some effort into your topic. No extra skills required. People will have a lot more respect and be more helpful when you do that. Try to do better than some guys on Facebook "have EV3 need help", "want to build car with suspension. need instructions. for free" or "here is my picture of car, what you think?". Regarding collection topics, for example the topic about "compact designs" we had recently. The first step is to research the topic and present a summary of what you've found, instead of asking everyone else to do your work. The proper approach would be: "I am interested in compact designs because of how much more complex it is to make functions at a small scale. I have scoured Eurobricks and found the following 6 designs that I feel are good examples. I'd like this topic to be a collector for these and other ideas." (thanks to Blakbird for this suggestion) When you start reading a topic which already has 6 designs, you see that the OP has put some effort into it. It's a matter of mutual respect, which you gain by showing you've tried yourself. The pro (and not so pro) builders are in fact very helpful. EB is actually one of the friendliest online communities I know! My 2 cents on beginners, topic creation and respect. -

With a little post process vignetting, very nice! -
Thanks! I've found the one on kickstarter. Not sure about this one. What do you guys think?

Hi Collins, Welcome to EB! Always nice to see a new member. Please keep this discussion about the 2015 sets. You can post your question in the General Discussion topic, which can be found in the Index. Or use the Future Set Wishes and Speculation topic. Thanks

Exactly. That's why we keep the subforums to a minimum. Don't be intimidated. Becoming a pro needs practice and failure. It might be an idea to start your topic with [bEGINNER], so people know how to handle and react. -
Tecnically there is no Pro category. It's category A and B. A is for Pro builders and Contest medalists. B is for everyone else. A buggy is fine!

Compact designs
Jim replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@aminnich I have no clue what this has to do with the contest?! Actually, in light of recent discussions, starting a topic like this is done by sharing your own compact design. Bring something to the table, sort of speak. Care to show us some of your compact designs? -

Definitely true. Light green with/or regular blue would have been a better choice. Maybe parts will be added in 2016, but for now it's rather useless. -
It would be great if you can format your TC7 topic like this: [TC7] Bandits - Vechicle Name or [TC7] Enforcers - Vechicle Name.

Yup, rubber bands are cool. I've added it to the rules, thanks. Grey is allowed on both sides, in the chassis or bodywork. Basically, you can't go wrong with grey

The preparations for LEGO World in the Netherlands have started. LEGO World NL 2015 The preparations for LEGO World in the Netherlands have started. The last couple of years it has been more for the Dutch AFOLs, but this year we like to welcome AFOL’s from outside the Netherlands, to make it a proper international event again. For the last 2 years LEGO World has taken place in the centre of The Netherlands in the city of Utrecht instead of Zwolle. The venue will be the Jaarbeurs, next to Utrecht central station, easy to reach by train. As usual the event will be around the autumn holidays in The Netherlands, from October 21st to 27th 2015. The Jaarbeurs is a modern complex, with a proper dining room and good facilities. One of the important sections of the event is the Fanzone. Here many AFOLs will get the chance to show their work to the audience. As the event is very popular in the Netherlands many fans will subscribe and many great builders will come with their latest MOCs and layouts. If you are interested being part of this year’s LEGO World NL, click on the link below for the subscription form. The information about the event and the subscription are in the newsletter (link in the subscription form). Subscribe Don’t wait too long, because subscription will close on July 15th. As the space is limited the Steering Group will review all entries based on size, quality, presentation and attractiveness for the visitors. But we can facilitate many AFOLs for sure! Information The event will take place from October 21st to 27th. Setting up on 20th of October (first week) or 24th of October (last week). We are still sorting out the price for exhibitors accommodations. Last year this was €10 per night. Every day a shuttle bus will take you from and to the venue. All meals are free. Several attractive goodies for exhibitors. Sale evening on Friday 23th of October, parts can be bought for LUG-bulk prices (in Euro’s). AFOL diner is on Saturday 24th of October We are looking forward your application. Happy building! Best regards, Steering Group LEGO World NL 2015 Important! If you are interested and you have any question, it's better to send an email to legoworldnederland@gmail.com instead of posting a reply in this topic!
