  1. I challenge you to brick build a British flag in this scale
  2. I love these mini sets! Very well done, sir!
  3. That looks pretty intricate! Do you have any better pictures?
  4. Just looking at this makes me start sweating
  5. An interesting build! We don't get very many xebecs here, I can only think of one or two others the whole time I've been active on this forum. The entire set is pretty simple, and has good playability. For a constructive criticism, I would suggest trying to make the curves in the hull a little less abrupt, and maybe try to make it so that you don't have the center portion be so straight. Basically, try to taper the lines a little more so the overall shape of the hull is smother. Alternately, add in some color to the hull to try and break up the straight lines a little. Maybe build a few ladders into the hull, and add a couple of scuppers to each side to further break things up.
  6. I wish I could help you there, but I can't. There's a few people that have posted some quite large ships of war on this page, though. Perhaps you could get one of them to share their files with you.
  7. I like that ship, Mon-o-mat. By chance could I trouble you for the LDD file (if you used LDD)?
  8. A bank might be a little more secure...
  9. With a single crewman, I can't imagine that cannon has a very high rate of fire I love the steampunk airships that people post here. There's so much imagination involved in pretty much anything steampunk, and it makes for some very clever creations.
  10. See? You need to go with a tan deck! Seriously, though, this ship has really become something. She looks great and is a definite improvement over the fat kid you first posted. She looks like a mean prize-fighter now. Excellent job all around. As this project starts to wind down, I'm anxious to see what you'll try next.
  11. Orange, thank you for the compliments :-)
  12. You have my support! As usual, you've done a tremendous job! Oddly enough, I'm more interested in seeing the white hull variant than the brown.
  13. At the moment, only two buildings have substructures, those being the two I've described here. I haven't ruled them out for other buildings, but that would require me to add stairways to the buildings. I'm not certain that basements were common to begin with in the Lowlands, so I'm kind of hesitant to put a whole lot of effort into making them. The only other building I've thought about putting a basement under is the church, but I'm torn between making it a catacomb or making it a Batman-style superhero hideout- if I go through the effort of making it at all.
  14. There is a building with two floors. The bottom is divided in two, with one half being the bar, and the other half being a print shop. The second floor is one complete unit, which is the boarding house/brothel and is accessed from the bar. The basement of this building is a big megablocks kitchen. This building butts up to the side of the counting house that has the stairs. The brewery is across the street. Downstairs from the brewery is the rathskellar. I'm considering linking the kitchen to the rathskellar with a tunnel, though, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the restaurant-in-cellar to not have a kitchen
  15. I'd like to echo Faladrin with regards to the curvature, but I'm very interested in seeing where this goes!
  16. They're brand new, they'd better not be!
  17. Whose is the green ship next to the lighthouse? I'd like to get more pictures of this ship, if possible. An overall excellent display! I wish I could have seen this in person. Well done to all!
  18. My problem is only with the top deck. When I had the deck segments as a single unit, the front and back ends were rising, preventing me from correctly installing the deck. Like so: Have you had any problems with your removable decks doing this, and if so, how did you fix it? Question clarifications aside, I would've sold a kidney to be there and see your fleet in person! It's crazy to think that some of these legendary ships are seven years old now. I still miss Achille's red sides, but she still looks quite lovely. I also have to say that Guerrière's stern is much prettier than CGH's tutorial frigate.
  19. Not a bad first ship, if I may say so. I particularly like the figurehead, as I have a hard time coming up with a unique one for each of my ships. The overall build is quite basic, but you've gone through the trouble of including several more advanced details, such as the aforementioned figurehead, food in the cabin, and lower deck access points. You're off to a good start, and I'd like to encourage you to stick with it, and improve your skills. You've got a great foundation in this ship, and you should work to fine tune it, removing some of the jagged edges, adding features (like cannons, if this ship is meant to have them), and improving your rigging, if you have the time and finances to do so. We all started somewhere, and I can say with certainty that my first MOC didn't look anywhere near this good. Keep it up!
  20. There's a string rigging tutorial here: Here's a picture of the bowsprit and the spar pieces I was talking about. LDD has the bowsprit listed as part #30047, though I don't think Pick-a-brick has it. They're usually available on Bricklink, though. I discovered it when one came in a lot purchase I made on Ebay several years ago, which was primarily for the bluecoat soldiers that were in the lot. A very fortunate discovery for me! The pin and tubes are parts #2780 and #75535 respectively. I included a ball piece that I often use as a "cap" for the spars, which is part #6628, but I also think is only available on Bricklink or similar sites. A cool feature of the tube is that it will connect to a normal Lego stud, so if you want to make your masts a little taller (which I have done on most of my ships), you can do so with those.
  21. It's been very interesting watching this ship take form! I do recommend making your own sails for this, I think the ones that come with sets generally don't work with MOCs. I'd also recommend making your horizontal spars from part #75535 tubes and part 2780 connector pegs. I originally had my horizontal spars just like yours, taking my cues from the classic pirate ships of my childhood, but after seeing the ones they used on the newer Imperial flagship, and seeing how several of the masters on this page did theirs, I switched to the parts that I suggested above. I've been very satisfied with the change, and I suspect you will be too. I think your bowsprit looks good even with that antenna forming the tip, but if you're not happy with that there is a relatively unknown part that is a bowsprit extender, that is the same thickness as the top piece of the old style masts that you're using, but doesn't go as far and has studs on the top that you can mount the old style top piece to. I don't think you need to change it, but it's an option you might prefer. I really like the bed that you put in the captain's cabin, unless that's supposed to be a couch without a back, in which case I like your backless couch. I'm also curious where you got the swivel chairs, and if you have a part number for them, as I quite like those (even if they aren't Lego). You've got a lot of really nice fine details in there (the cabin lanterns and the shield with crossed swords are nice additions as well), though I do still recommend that you tile the deck in tan or maybe grey to give a better color contrast. Alternately, changing the deck plates to a single third color may do the job. I think that either one will help your details stand out a little more as well. What you've done with your aft mast looks great, and the balance of your masts overall seems spot on. Your length seems to be quite good, perhaps I was wrong about five center sections after all. The bow chasers look quite good, and I'd like to commend you on managing to do that with full size cannons. I've never been able to work in anything bigger than some small deck guns mounted in the same area as your mortars. Lastly, I wouldn't be too concerned about the height of your gun deck. I believe it was fairly common for people to have to walk and work hunched over slightly while below decks (citation needed) but at the very least, quite a few Lego ships have similar problems, so you'll find you're in good company with that issue. In all, I'd say you've built quite the fine ship here, with a respectable armament that would give a good fight to most of the ships that get posted on this site. I dare say my Thunderchild, with her 18-gun main battery, would probably beat you, but only if she manages to stay away from your bow. Lastly, you are aware of Bricklink, right? You can get just about anything there, usually for cheaper than buying a whole set just to get one or two parts. I still recommend Pick-a-Brick when possible, primarily because a lot of sellers will take you to the cleaners on shipping costs, but when you need something Lego doesn't have, Bricklink is a good place to look.
  22. If you hadn't put in the working rudder, I would've said to move your helm and put a third mast there. Since it's not really an option, though... I would suggest moving your center mast back a bit, and maybe adding a section to your aft mast. You probably don't want to fully rig that one, though, maybe lateen rig it or something- and it may already be the right length for that. It might be too far aft to look ok, but I would try that before doing anything more drastic. I think your foremast is right about where it should be, so I'd leave that there if possible.
  23. The mortars are one of the best features, I think. Like I said before on the ram, it's not period accurate, but it looks cool! What you've done with the stairs is terrific, and I've done a similar thing with the doors on several ships that I've done, only with a mast separating the doors instead of steering linkage. I think it looks great- it actually makes it look foreboding, like Satan is gonna come out of there or something.
  24. Since it's already been bumped, I might as well chime in. I haven't seen this one before, magnificent job as usual! Is she still around?
