  1. I like that you've made a smaller ship out of the smaller hull size. We don't see too many ships around here made with the black and grey hull. Could you show us some more pictures of the center section, between the bow and stern pieces so we can see how you lengthened it?
  2. Her daddy was the Bismarck (one of the few ships in the world to be referred to in the masculine) and her mommy was the Enterprise (CVN-65, not CV-6) :-D Not sure how the daughter exists a few hundred years before the parents, though.
  3. I'm not really sure that mythical god names would work for a frigate, especially one that only mounts ten guns (excluding carronades- really this is more of a sloop or brig with frigate lines). When I hear names like Zeus, etc, I think of a big man o' war, like a 1st or 2nd rate ship of the line. So I think I'm gonna go with Thunderchild. It was *really* only between that and Frobisher for me, but the comment that was made about the latter sounding like a privateer is actually something I agree with, so I'll probably save that name for a future project. Although I give permission to use the name to anybody else that would like to make a privateer... Thanks for the help, all :-)
  4. I could always go with Excelsior, which Star Trek and Manbearpig references aside, refers to styrofoam and wood chips used for packaging material :-D I'm a little disappointed to find out that Thunderchild was the name of a ship in War of the Worlds. I thought I'd come up with that all on my own (like Frobisher), but when I saw that earlier comment, I realized that it was actually from a book that I'd read when I was in middle school. A bit of a letdown.
  5. Er... the blue guys, I guess? The Imperial Azullian Empire, led by the Duchess of Die Farbe Blau? I hadn't really thought of it, to be honest. I'm not planning to affiliate them with any *actual* nation, so if you're looking for a name that would be appropriate to British or French navies it's not terribly applicable. If it helps, I've got three other ships of the same affiliation. Two are modified Carribean Clippers (6274) which I've named Bhomis and Axelay, and the sloop I built with a rowboat as a base (I've got about a hundred rowboats, so I decided to do something with them), which I've named Illiff. I've added some pictures I took of them tonight as they plied the hotly contested waters of Meu Rojo Tapeta Persa, just before an appearance by the dreaded sea dogs Stanley Noodleburger and Lita Pita of the Bockser Pirates forced them to retreat to the nearby safe harbor of Oben Schreibtisch. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57097594@N08/?saved=1
  6. So using techniques borrowed from several individuals on these forums (i.e. Capt. Greenhair's tutorial, SlyOwl's Maive Auselbrook, and Perfectionist's Achille), I have produced a frigate of my own. She only boasts ten guns (plus carronades), my original plan called for twelve with four studs between each, but I made an error in the measurements in Digital Designer, and had to drop two. In days of old, when a ship's hull was ready to be launched, she would be named and christened, before sliding down the ramp into the water which would be her home for the rest of her service life. Once launched, the remaining work to be completed would be performed, adding rigging, a superstructure, and of course, armaments. My ship is at this point. She needs her masts, spars, rigging, main guns, some work on the bow, and most of her crew, but I feel she is ready for her name. I haven't settled on one yet, but I have narrowed my list down to the following, and was hoping for some help. Frobisher Thunderchild Concordia Croebahr Castlerigg Any additional name suggestions would be nice, just remember it's got to fit on a 1x10 brick. Also, any suggestions on the ship itself would be appreciated. I'm planning to use normal Lego rope ladders instead of custom rigging, and the grey/blue chequer pattern on the side of the hull I plan to extend all the way around the bow. I'm also trying to work out a figure for the bow. My capstan has been replaced by one like on the Imperial Flagship. Suggestions on anchors would also be nice, as what I designed didn't work out AT ALL. Rudder will be in my next Lego order. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57097594@N08/?saved=1
