[MOC] USS Poseidon - Minifig Scale First Rate Ship of the Line
Cousarmy0001 replied to shiplover's topic in Pirate MOCs
Your extended Brickbeard's Bounty looks like a longboat compared to this :-D Simply incredible. -
So, question: Has anybody made anything of note with the small hull ships (like the black and grey one pictured here)? I've been watching this forum for quite a while, and don't remember seeing any, though I'm sure somebody somewhere has. Assuming there are, have people brick built center hull sections?

I like this one. It's simple, but very well done :-)

What are those feathers you used for the stern?

Excellent job! The fort especially is one of the best I've seen! I've got a question, if you don't mind revealing a secret. I've gotten a problem on my own town's construction, that the pieces that I need for one of my roofs are obnoxiously expensive (if I go that route, I'll be dropping about $300 on just one roof), so I was curious as to how you anchored the angled roof in this set, and if it's removeable.

When I originally built Thunderchild (I can't seem to find the thread anymore), which has 4 hull mid-sections, she had 10 guns, but after finishing, I felt that was too few for a ship of her size. I think originally I had 5 studs between each gun, but I shrank it to 3 with the redesign, and now there's 14 guns, with ample room for a cabin, as well as a kitchen/wardroom (the latter of which I haven't bothered with actually building because only the quarterdeck can be removed, and that only covers the captain's cabin). If you like, I can post some pictures of the interior and exterior of those to give you some ideas. *correction* Thunderchild can be found at http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=66990#entry1222088

I like it! Small and simple!
-
I like how the overall design is the same, but there's minor variances that separate the two.

I like it! Simple, and effective!

Stubby, but I like it. You have a lot of details, I especially like the exterior of the captain's cabin :-)

Thanks for the info on Adder :-)

I love the passenger ship! By the way, that "yoink" sound you just heard was totally not me stealing some of your ideas...

This is great! Any chance we could get some shots of your yellow and black boat?

High Seas. Pirate Diorama 2013 (Klodsfest 2013)

Holy crap, dude! That orange ship is HUGE! I like how you have stained glass windows on your ships, I think that's a nice touch that you don't see very often. -
I was asking about the blue (apparently Barbarossa) tunic because I wholly concur that it makes a great bluecoat officer tunic, and I would like to get a few for myself :-) On a side note, I just left for vacation today, but yesterday the ten Revolutionary soldiers I ordered arrived in the mail. They look freakin' sweet, and the wigs have found their way around to all manner of officers on all sides of the fray. I've ordered red epaulets and white trimmed tricornes to go with them, still unsure about rucks. My only regret, I had a guy with white shoulders, I wanted to try those shoulders on one of the Revolutionaries before settling on red, but I can't find the guy :-(

It's cute, and I mean that in a good way :-) It's tough to make a good small ship, I've got a hull like that one, and I've tried for about two years now to come up with a ship design for it that I liked. So far, I have failed, it's good to see that you have succeeded where I have failed.

Clean lines, and it looks like a set Lego would have designed. Well done :-)

I like the bed, and also the railings that you designed. I hope that you are able to make this ship a reality :-)

Talking all over my own thread, here. So I did a little research into colonial foundries, and found(ry) that once again, Google kinda sucks for finding images that are helpful to me. Nonetheless, I found enough to design a foundry interior in the industrial building. In the attached, it's set up for casting a cannon and some rifle barrels, and the black domed shapes are for casting bells. It's late, so I'm putting off trying to make Lego bellows until tomorrow :-) Also visible are the interiors of the green and medium blue building, I cleared most of the books out of the medium blue one, though. -

In all of the paintings and drawings I could find of wharves in this time period, I didn't see much in the way of cranes, which leads me to believe that that sort of thing was done using arms and lines extended from the ship's own rigging, but if somebody has a source that proves otherwise (and preferably has an image so I know what a harbor crane looked like in the 1600-1700s period) I would be happy to reconsider. The green/medium blue buildings are both retail stores, the green one is a general store type deal, the medium blue one is currently a bookstore, but like I said, that's probably going to change. Any suggestions about specific store types that could go in either of the blue buildings? The orange building might work as a post office, though it's a bit big, I'd want to figure out something to share the space. Perhaps I could rework the orange building a bit to make it into a bakery / brewery? Maybe I'll make the blue half of the green/blue building a post office and print shop instead of a bookstore? I may also add a few food carts and things like that as well, I'm not certain that brick and mortar food stores were common in that time period. This has the added advantage of giving the carriages something to crash into while they're chasing each other down the street :-D Railroads are about 100 years after the period I'm trying to depict, unfortunately, so even though I made Stephen's Rocket in LDD a year or so back, it probably won't be showing up in this set. -

The red brick building between the barracks and the tavern is a storehouse for exactly that. My intent is for the industrial building to be a manufacturing shop of some type, perhaps maybe a forge for cannons or something. I'll have to do more research on industrial techniques of the day before I make my decision. My intent with the red storehouse is that the ships of the fleet would pull right up to the wharf and dock, that way they are right there to recieve their orders from the admiralty, and the replenishing of stores would be very easy as well. And with the bar/brothel on hand, everybody can go blow off steam from spending months at sea with nothing but a bunch of dudes to hang out with. Then go to the church at the other end of the street and repent for it :-) Any feedback at all is appreciated. We were all beginners at one point, and just because you haven't built an amazing (and obsessively perfect) ship like Vesta or Achille doesn't mean you can't contribute something useful :-) By the way, the buildings whose exact uses haven't been determined are: The orange building with white trim. The bottom floor of the light blue building (next to the bar). The random industrial building. The medium blue one story building that shares a wall with the green one is currently a book store, but I think that's a little too modern touristy, and that may wind up being repurposed. The red brick storehouse doesn't have an interior yet, but it will be full of barrels, "timbers", and masts. So if you have ideas for the unpurposed buildings, I am open to them.
