10283 had better be a damned real sci-fi Space set! We had a Pirate ship, and now have an upcoming Castle. We need Space! We must complete the triumvirate! -

YES! 2020: Ideas Pirate Ship, Creator Pirate Ship 2021: Ideas Blacksmith Shop, Creator Castle 2022: Space? -
Two days to acquire ancient parts and build something? Good luck with that. I think this is a good idea, but we need more time, and if we're doing alt builds, it should be from a recent set. The recent Creator Cyber Drone set, for example, has a minifig with a classic space logo and a Spyrius-inspired robot face. It might be a good candidate, although the color scheme is different.

Do you think lego will ever realese another space theme

The same can be asked of every Lego set ever made, so go ask Star Wars, Marvel, City, and Ninjago fans why they want new sets. -
You're right, Medieval Market and Kingdoms Joust were both amazingly priced for their part/minifig count. The main difference I see is that the Blacksmith house is more of a Creator Expert style set -- more ornate, more small parts, sacrificing volume for a more dense, detailed build. I wonder if it's final part count will justify the price? If it makes you feel better, as a Classic Space fan, I've always felt like a red-headed step-child. I don't care at all about any City/NASA style sets, and all I've gotten in 10 years is the (awesome) Exo Suit and the (amazing) Lego Movie sets (Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship, Benny's Space Squad). And I feel incredibly lucky to get those. I guess you can count Galaxy Squad, although it was a major departure from past themes. Pirate fans though, yeah, they had an amazing year, didn't they? I'm jealous.

Ah, that all makes sense. I hadn't really noticed the animals in the original set; I still can't even find the goat or chickens. I'm surprised they didn't at least keep the owl.
-
I'm surprised that people expected multiple animals in this set. The Village Raid set included a barn as the main building, right? It makes sense for a barn to include animals. I don't know why a blacksmith shop would.

Wow, tough crowd around here. I think the set is awesome, the minfigs are awesome, and plan to get this day one!

LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I got two of the Cyber Drone on Friday and played around with them. I decided to build a "base" using both sets. It's some sort of Space Survey Station. With the leftover pieces I made a Surface Sled and Power Generator. I want to build a rover next! -

I haven't seen the Team Shintaro torsos (the bare chested ones) on a real minifig yet. Or the hairpiece with the spiked circlet. I feel ya. Not getting my hopes up. It's much more believable to me that Lego would tease us with a rendered Ice Planet torso that will never exist than the idea that they're gonna bring back the theme. First thing I noticed too! I'm going to have to Bricklink those, assuming they are really trans-purple and not trans-clear in purple lighting. -

Where is the whole "Lego is going to bring back an old theme" rumor coming from? Not saying I don't believe it, but if it's like a news press release or interview, I'd be interested in reading it. If Lego WERE to bring back an old Space theme, I think Ice Planet is the absolute best choice they could make. Classic Space is awesome, but in terms of color schemes, you just can't beat Ice Planet. Everyone who sees old Ice Planet sets on social media goes crazy for them. People love the transparent orange chainsaw -- it's even a meme. It really has everything from regular Space sets -- exploration, satellites, rocket launchers -- with the added element of the hostile cold environment, so you get a built-in conflict to drive stories, even without an enemy. And of course the cool elements like skis and chainsaws. Hell, it even used magnets, so a new Ice Planet theme could use those new magnet pieces. That said, I don't see that Ninjago card as proof of anything. There are a bunch of new torsos shown there. Do we expect all of them to be used in some theme? It'd be cool but I doubt it. I'd love to be wrong though. -

I finally saw it! Yep, it's true. I have no idea where you guys see this stuff. I follow the obvious tags on Instagram but that pic never showed up on my feed. -

How sure are we this isn't just a ninja torso that has been misidentified due to blurriness? -

Whoa! Very cool. Love the super chunky proportions. And of course the rainbow beam. Also digging that shoulder cannon.

My point was about the name. Generally Lego "mechs" have minifig pilots inside them. What's funny is the other sci-fi set is a "Cyber Drone" but it actually has a pilot minifig! Even though Lego "drones" generally don't have pilots. I'm sure pedantic contrarians will argue that the "Cyber Drone" name is fine because "the pilot is a robot, he's the drone," but robots are not drones, they're robots. Drones are remote controlled vehicles, not autonomous human-shaped robots. One could continue to argue that words can mean whatever one wants, but I would argue that Lego should name sets so that they make the most sense to the most people by using words consistently with how they used them in the recent past.

For whole set design, I don't get this thing: https://brickset.com/sets/31115-1/Space-Mining-Mech It's a "mech" with no pilot minifig. That's generally not done. Also it's a sci-fi set, considering it's a mech with a green alien. But the set uses NASA/SpaceX colors, like all the "modern" space Lego sets. Which means both sci-fi Space fans and NASA/SpaceX fans will have reason to skip it. A simple color swap of the main bubble canopy and the blue/red stripe pieces would make this a pretty sweet callback to Futuron or Mission to Mars. And of course make the set look way cooler. But as it is, the set is super boring! Just mainly white, very basic looking mech. The only thing that could save a boring design like that is vivid colors. The recent Underwater Robot had more color and more detail (hoses, printed panels) with less pieces! https://brickset.com/sets/31090-1/Underwater-Robot

10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery Discussion

Exactly. In no way will this be an homage to any classic Space themes, because frankly Lego isn't cool enough to do a set like that. (Alright, LEGO, I'm setting you up to make me look really dumb here -- prove me wrong!)- 310 replies

Thanks, I'm enjoying the review and the comments! I see I'm not the only one getting tired of the Galactic Fascism that Lego is pushing, with Humans as the good guys and aliens as the bad guys. Makes me appreciate Life on Mars so much more! The fact that they named the alien figure Alien makes me very much suspect they dropped "Criminal" from his name at the last minute. I mean, he has a crow bar -- it's pretty obvious. I think they realized the HuMaN gOoD ALiEn bAd thing was getting stupid. And really the Alien minifig is just too freaking cool to be constrained to one role. I wish he had come with a recolor of the old trans-neon orange chain saw, maybe in trans green or something, to allow him to be a criminal OR miner. He could also pull off an alien scientist role. Also, it's Space, shouldn't he have a laser crow bar or something? How rad would that crowbar be in trans green? (Credit to @Aanchir for getting me stuck on transparent colored accessories lately). The Space Police guy, I'm torn on. I will have to get a few. I loved Space Police as a kid and this is a faithful modernization. The armor looks reusable for non-police Space figures as well. But there's something...boring about him that I can't put my finger on. And frankly, as an American, I'm tempted to quote some NWA lyrics right now. I have to agree with others who say the Violin Kid is pointless. He seems like a throwaway figure you'd get in some City set. Makes no sense as a CMF. Straight up weird if you ask me. -

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but I agree with this the most. Especially a red laser shield. I was always obsessed with this piece as a kid and would welcome another trans red shield. The same shield we're getting in white would be AMAZING in trans red. EDIT: and @Aanchir, if you want to tell me why the trans red plastic is too brittle for that shield, I'll try not to be too butthurt about you crushing my dreams. -
That makes sense. I like how weird the builds turned out, so I guess that means I'm glad it's Classic and not Creator. Ironically, I'd say this Classic set encourages more Creat-ivity than it would as a Creator set.
-
Ahh. Now that I've gone and looked at the Classics theme sets on Brickset, it's obvious. I forgot all those "bucket of bricks" sets were Classic. I guess what I should have asked was, why is the Build Your Own Monster set not a Creator set, while the German Shepherd is?
-
Not sure why this "theme" exists separateley from Creator. But anyway. This set is so weird! It's a monster. But it's also a car or an airplane complete with steering wheel and a place for a minifig. And it has plant/leaf parts, but they're used as wings. Is this a plant monster? Weird, but in that way that I really like.
