  1. True, but this is yet another pivot that happens in these threads again and again. It goes like this: A: "LEGO Space themes were awesome, they should do them again." B: "No, that's just NOSTALGIA talking. LEGO Space is OLD, and OLD things are bad, and NOSTALGIA is bad, and doesn't sell, and if you just got over your NOSTALGIA you'd see OLD things you like actually suck." C: "Wait, Star Wars is 40 years old, and it's pure nostalgia! The X-Wing design is ancient and it's still cool. And nostalgia totally sells." D: "So what? Star Wars is popular." Point B is refuted by point C. And yet, again, instead of admitting that point B was wrong, point B is casually discarded, as if the argument never mattered, and we pivot to a new argument. It's almost like people arguing against unlicensed Space themes are just griefers, who throw arguments against the wall to see what sticks, but don't really care about any of the arguments or whether they make sense, so long as the people in the Sci-Fi forum feel invalidated.
  2. So let's review the conversation so far: "LEGO is only for kids so AFOLs who want Space should shut up." "No, LEGO is not just for kids, they sell lots of sets to adults." "So what? You should still shut up." Got it. Space fans should just shut up. The reason's don't matter -- if we refute one reason, you'll just make up another. Good to know. If it's the same thing, bring back Space and give people a break from Star Wars. But seriously, your argument is a huge straw man. Nobody is arguing that LEGO should bring back actual Classic Space sets from 1978. Look at the thread title. This is about space themes in general. Unlicensed, non-NASA themes to be specific. So, things like Galaxy Squad or Space Police 3. Yes! This is what I'm hoping for. Just slap a damn Space print on some piece in the set and give us some colored windscreens. Make it look cooler AND get the nostalgia market. It's a no-brainer. This sounds a lot like "Some random person on the internet criticized a Space set so we should never make one again." It's an excuse. None of those themes were condemned. Maybe criticized, but all themes get criticized. It's not because people with nostalgia can't be pleased. For instance I have criticisms for Galaxy Squad, Space Police 3, and Mars Mission, but I bought sets from all of them.
  3. Not at all. They definitely don't sell Star Wars, LOTR, or Harry Potter sets to kid. Maybe Marvel. But many of their big nerd IPs are sold mostly to adults, or adults trying to force their favorite IPs onto their kids. Kids don't care about Star Wars, or the Harry Potter movies that have been out of theaters since before they were born. That's all adult nerd stuff. We're talking about sets. Not MOCs. Besides, by that argument, LEGO shouldn't sell sets at all. Just big buckets of bricks.
  4. I don't really understand the new road system yet. I guess it's just big gray tiles shaped so you can put white tiles in between to make lane markers? And the tiles would go on top of one layer of plates? I guess you could use the new tiles on top of base plates if you want.
  5. Oh, really? I thought the leak was a scan of a finished catalogue. Darn it, are you trying to get my hopes back up? Oh, duh. It literally says preliminary on the image.
  6. I like how you used wedge plates to shape the frame to fit the canopy. Very cool! It seems like he's going for a more Star Wars look. Also that canopy doesn't exist in trans yellow, sadly.
  7. That Space Mining Mech... I like the design. But an empty mech is pretty weird. It should really have a pilot. Also, missed opportunity to make it themed. That shield piece in the front would have been a perfect place to put a Space logo print; either Classic Space, or the (both similar) Space Miner or Mars Mission logo. An trans-orange bubble would have made a good Mars Mission themed mech without changing anything else. Or, keep the non-colored canopy and make the mech gray and orange to match the Space Miner. As it is, it's...meh.
  8. I mean, did you even have to complete that sentence?
  9. Thank you! Nice to know it's not just me. Aghhh! We only have two short years? *pukes*
  10. Agreed, we already have a thread for this. Sorry, to be clear none of my annoyance was aimed at you! I was just "triggered" by the news. You're right, a small wave is good news. And man I really hope the Creator Space Mech isn't a dud!
  11. Sign me up!
  12. EDIT: Warning, rant ahead! Oh thank GOD, I don't know what I'd do without YET ANOTHER release of the SAME TIRED DESIGNS over and over again, FOREVER, from a 40 year-old movie! I mean at what point are we beating a dead horse? This is bordering on sickness. What SW fans could possibly need another release of these vehicles? Let's not pretend these are for kids who desperately want retro space ships from an ancient movie. It's just adults, buying the same thing over and over again. It's frankly a little sad. I grew up loving Star Wars, but I am so sick of it now. To the point of actual nausea. I want off this SW ride. EDIT: End rant. Sorry guys, had to blow off some steam. I feel better now.
  13. If heaven isn't a pizza parlor with an arcade, I don't wanna go there. Nice build!
  14. Yeah, a tile version would be awesome. And an anti-tile (smooth on the bottom, studs on top, whatever that's called).
  15. I really don't like the new claw though. Too big, not enough tension without a rubber band, and has the big axle sticking out of both pieces.
  16. If we're talking about newer pieces that we like for opening up new building possibilities, then mine is this: That's two axes of rotation on a single modified 1x1 plate! Doesn't get much more useful than that. I wish the had a rounded clip now. Another one that has built-in rotation: A bunch of possibilities with the above, like a completely round wall, or brick-built tank treads. Runners up that I'm pretty sure are going to be super useful: As a kid I think my favorite pieces were the bendy-arm pieces with claw, as shown on the back of 6822. Any set with those arm pieces was automatically on my must have list. In the 90's the arm parts even came in transparent colors which was super cool. Now the arm pieces have been replaced with click hinge arms. But I don't think there's a good replacement for the claw.
  17. Great topic. There are so many great parts! For me, this is the most nostalgic part: It was only in a few Space sets and it was just so amazing to me as a kid seeing that piece in transparent red. It was basically a space laser shield! In 1984, this was mind blowing for my 6-year-old brain. I also remember the pic below from an old Idea Book I saw as a kid. It must have cemented how cool this shield was.
  18. Ah, cool. Well, the splitting gimmick is cool enough. Making something actually reconfigure with LEGO is pretty darn hard. I've tried, and usually give up!
  19. Very cool! I like how the ship uses the minifig color scheme. I'm trying to figure out where the second wing comes from when the ship splits into two.
  20. Let's just say I'm used to replies that don't even offer an opinion, but just bash the opinions and desires of others. Where they don't even tell you what they like or don't like. They just explain to you that you have no right to like what you like, and that LEGO should never make any products you like, and that everything LEGO does is perfect anyway, and you should be happy just making MOCS instead of complaining about them not making sets you actually want. An actual opinion on why SW is better than Classic Space is refreshing, after what I've experienced. Yep, I agree with that general sentiment.
  21. Nice! An actual opposing opinion, instead of another lame attempt to invalidate others'. I don't know if what you said extends past Classic Space or not. Futuron introduced a few new canopy/cockpit designs, but maybe you're not counting that. Yeah, Classic Space reused that one hinged canopy a lot. I think 1985 is the main offender when it comes to using the same cockpit design. '86 uses the same canopy but different cockpit builds/nose shapes. But more generally you're right, the Classic Space ships were pretty similar in overall design. Wedge shaped more-or-less with canopy in the front, wings on the sides, and engines in the back. I would argue that SW has a it's own problems with repetition. Whether it's literally the same spaceship released every few years, or derivative designs that are too timid out of fear of not looking "Star Wars-y", I can't see how people aren't tired of it. However I generally prefer the aesthetic of Lego Space. I like swoopy, angular/wedge shaped space ships. I like vivid, high contrast color blocking, and especially colored windscreens. I vastly prefer this to the drab, gray SW universe. I'm also not a big fan of the new designs like the Mandalorian ship, which looks like a gray brick with two cylinders attached. But that's all subjective. It's fine if we all like different things. Your criticisms of Lego Space are valid. But I don't think anyone here is arguing for a return of repetitive design. Also, I don't think that's been in issue since Futuron. I would say in the most recent Space themes especially, the space ship design was diverse and creative. Nah, I like it. :) Instead of trying to defend the status quo, or invalidate opposing opinions, he just straight up says why he doesn't like Lego Space and prefers Star Wars. This is the way to disagree.
  22. Oh I'm sure there is high demand for Mario himself, and other main characters. But he's only in one set. It's all the accessory and big location sets that are warming the shelves. Like, who's going to buy any of that stuff if they can't get Mario? Or can't afford the big set he's in?
  23. I mean, I could have predicted this before seeing the store shelves had I known that most sets wouldn't even have Mario or another main character in them. I mean, they literally show a "ghost" Mario on the box! Like, "Yeah, we know Mario should be in this set, but he's not, so here's what it should look like. Deal with it!" I don't want the theme to fail, I just refuse to give a pass to the abject lunacy of trying to sell a character based property without the characters. Can you imagine if Lego tried to sell Marvel sets, but without the minifigures? Instead just a "ghost" picture of the intended minifigs on the box? And then you can't even find the minifigs in stores?
  24. This theme seems to be an absolute disaster. The sets are warming the shelves in all the stores around me. Nobody wants them. Except for the ones that actually have the figures, which are nowhere to be found. This, of course, should surprise nobody. I wouldn't want to be the exec responsible for this. I'm sure this was a giant money loser. Like, how do you sell themed sets without the main characters that everyone loves? It's mindbogglingly stupid.
  25. Ugh, I heard 10 more earlier. Only 5? Hmmm. Well a few $20 Creator sets had a minifig. And a few $30 Creator sets had 2. I guess it's still possible.
