  1. I think those are better examples of what IDEAS should be, because someone had to come up with the original concept for those sets. You don't have to do that for a sitcom set. The TV show already did that. Also I don't think the Exo-Suit and Pirate Bay sets were similar in any way at all so there was no creative repetition there. They're both "Classic Themed" sure but the actual sets are totally different. The original Fishing Store was great, but I think it kicked off a copy cat frenzy on "ramshackle buildings". Everything was just another ramshackle building in a different context...including the Pirate Bay and the Medieval Blacksmith designs! I think that's why the Lego designers removed most of the "ramshackle" quality on the final designs for both of those sets; they were tired of that look. I thought the Curiosity and Saturn V were both IDEAS? Regardless, LEGO should just do the NASA style stuff on their own now. IDEAS has been over saturated with it. Yeah that's the part I don't get. They know people love TV show sets, so can't they just go do the more specific market research on their own now? Like the Queer Eye set.
  2. There's space and there's Space. There are no Space sets anywhere except 10497. Although some Monkie Kid sets are close, the Lightyear set is very close, the City space sets this year are pretty close. So, a good year for getting close to Space.
  3. If they actually start doing that. Not sure they will. Space themes still haven't gotten a Creator 3-in-1 like Castle, Pirates, and Vikings have. If not, it should be open season for IDEAS Space themed sets! Also, unlike sitcom apartments, there's a huge difference between a castle, a pirate ship, and a space ship! Classic themes are so different they can't really count against each other.
  4. Right. They should have stopped at 2. Exactly. They don't need to waste IDEAS sets on sitcoms.
  5. I said this somewhere else, but once something that is essentially the same idea (for example, TV sitcom characters in their main sitcom location) has been done twice, they should probably ban the idea from Ideas. It's not really a new idea at that point. Lego can release sitcom sets whenever they want now, they don't need to use Ideas for that. Same with NASA sets and movie cars. Use Ideas for actual new ideas.
  6. My take on this: The first Lego Ideas set for a sitcom set made sense. It hadn't been done before. It was a new idea. Hence "Lego Ideas". The second and third, not so much. Lego can just make sitcom sets now without going through the whole Ideas process. Why not let new, fresh ideas for sets happen in Ideas? This sitcom set takes the place of something else that could have been more ground breaking. This also applies to movie cars (BttF Delorean, Ghostbusters Ecto-1) and NASA sets (Curiosity, Saturn V).
  7. Agree...but I also feel the same about the umpteenth X-Wing set.
  8. Yeah...I was wondering if there were enough "Bionicle-like" parts still used in themes like Ninjago that could be used with technic and system parts to make something reasonably close to the original Bionicle sets. But after a cursory check of parts being used in 2022, I don't think there are enough Bionicle/Constraction style parts in production. And I think you're probably right about something like that disappointing Bionicle fans.
  9. Has anyone bought this set? o It's a pretty nice set with printed parts and a cool space ship design. I bought it just because I really like the space ship on the box. I guess there's an app you're supposed to download for instructions but there's no effing way I'm going to do that. Lego needs to include instructions, period. And stop forcing stupid apps on us. I was able to figure out how to build the spaceship just from the box and through the process of elimination. It's a really nice little ship. But I also wanted to do an alt build. I didn't want to change the design too much, I just wanted to make it so the ship could split into two ships; i.e. implement a "combiner" gimmick. I came up with this: The ship splits into two using the included clips & bar plates. After splitting, a small engine folds out of the smaller ship. When combined, the engine is pointed down and forms the a VTOL rocket and front landing pod. The leftover parts were able to make a rover: It's a pretty cool parts pack. However it's too expensive for it's part count by about $10, especially considering it's lack of printed instructions. If it was cheaper I would potentially buy multiples. Oh and I posted this here because it's unquestionably a sci-fi set. I mean, it's a spaceship. Going to Mars.
  10. Also, Bionicle fans kinda got screwed. And I say that as someone who doesn't care about Bionicle at all. Maybe there is a yet to be revealed 90th Anniversary set for them?
  11. Not sure if popular or unpopular but: This is the best year for AFOLs in decades. Especially AFOLs my age who grew up in the 80's. We get: A Lamborghini Countach, arguably the most iconic car of the 80's A BttF Delorean, the other most iconic car from the 80's Freaking Optimus Prime An amazing Classic Space set For Space fans, quite a bit of other cool stuff. The City Space sets which are arguably Classic Space adjacent and much more Sci-Fi than before The Lightyear spaceship with new yellow windscreen (which the designer says is a back door Classic Space set) The Monkie Kid Moon Cake Factory which is just a goofier version of the original Alpha-1 Rocket Base The Monkie Kid Galactic Explorer if you're into gold spaceships The new Castle set!!! The new Forestmen set! A whole bunch of new animal molds in the farm set A new Viking set in the Creator line What am I forgetting?
  12. Sigh, August needs to get here now!
  13. 1. Black Falcons. These guys were one of the main factions when I was a kid, and they seemed like upstarts or underdogs compared to the Lion Knights. That made them cooler. They were darker and seemed a litter more badass then the Lions. 2. Forestmen. These were the new cool thing when I was in my prime kid years, and were completely different, and lived in trees like Robin Hood! 3. Tie between Black Knights, Wolfpack, and the original Classic Castle knights. Black Knights had new helmets and shields, Wolf Pack were badass rogues, and the original Classic Castle dudes had "old" helmets and shields which made them interesting. 4. Lion Knights. They were fine, but boring. The status quo. 5. Tie between everything else. Don't care enough to rank them. I don't consider the "new" Black Falcons/Lions as different factions, just continuations of their original factions.
  14. Hmmm, if Lego can argue someone is trying to pass off custom figs as official Lego products (i.e. counterfeits), I could imagine more of a real legal footing there. Or do you mean the opposite? Trying to pass off Lego products as their own? If I bought a bunch of cans of Coca Cola, and slapped "Danth Soda" labels on them, and sold them, would Coke sue me? Maybe they could...I have no idea. Alright is anyone in here a real lawyer? Help! 😁
  15. If physical Lego minifigs are a "trademark", then Lego could just sue anyone who sells minifigs, at all. So, you buy a CMF, later you want to sell it on ebay, and Lego sues you. Right? Or am I missing something? I think this is a just a request to the community. Like, "please don't do this." But I don't know. Lego has sued people before without any legal basis in reality and lost, so who knows. They can definitely cut you off from special privileges though. If I were a Lego fan website and wanted access to interviews etc, I wouldn't be printing custom minifigs.
  16. Or, give out whatever you want, and just don't use the Lego trademark or branding (e.g their actual logos). Which is all Lego can legally ask. And no, Lego minifigs are not a trademark, they are a product. Anyone can buy a product, modify it, and sell it. Lego asking us to not do that is just a ridiculous overreach with no basis in law (in the US at least). Obligatory "I'm not a lawyer".
  17. I've bought CMFs blind a few times on a whim, but that is simply not going to happen at $5 a pop. Usually I buy either from local stores where their employees feel them out and label them, or I buy from Bricklink. Generally I buy what I want, and don't really feel like gambling. So, these new boxes, they'll probably contain an inner plastic bag right? So no real reduction in waste.
  18. Nice! You have perfectly demonstrated that they don't believe their own argument. I, however, do believe their argument...and demand that all licensed minifigs immediately cease production! 😂 Anyway, I don't know about Europe, but in the US there's probably no way to enforce something like this.
  19. If it makes you feel better, the new one actually has all that interior space that you could only imagine in the old one, complete with sleeping quarters, multiple consoles, air lock, seats for 4 minifigs up front and more in the back, and still has the storage compartment for the rover. And the new one is also "2 story", it just achieves it's second story in a sleeker way with a different canopy. Seems like a total win all around, unless you really need your spaceships to be clunky. But I think most people think sleeker ships are sexier, so you might be in a small minority. EDIT: It feels so weird to actually be defending Lego for once.
  20. Not a rumor but just me saying I want it: Give me a CMF series of anthropomorphic animals. Something that would work for Fabuland, Animal Crossing, Sylvanians/Calico Critters, or whatever. I'm tired of animal costumes. I want actual animals, like what we had for Chima or Vidiyo. Sadly, Chima heads were too aggressive, and Vidiyo heads are a bit weird. I want something a little more normal.
  21. Nice! That design is well suited for the Blacktron livery...I didn't realize how menacing that shape was until now!
  22. The inclusion of the droid from 6809 makes me wonder if we're going to get a GWP or something with the rest of that set (the XT-5 with the blue Space man). The black air tank makes me think the GWP might include a vehicle with a black space man too, like a 6882 remake...or even a Blacktron remake!
  23. I wish the tile with the vent lines was two separate tiles. Also, is this a hint? That's a black air tank right?
  24. Thanks for this link! Interesting read. Maybe someone needs to introduce Lego to the concept of "more & smaller boxes". 😁
