Exactly my thoughts. Nice juxtaposition. Smooth transition from the canopy to the nosecone (a Bionicle foot I'm guessing?).

They're here! In my house! I'm suddenly feeling a little sick and might need to call in to work...

I dunno man, it feels waaay to late for us to finally get a Classic Space throwback set. Or if you want to count Benny's Spaceship as the first throwback, from 8 years ago, then we're probably due for Ice Planet right now.

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I was checking out the instructions for the One Man Space Ship alt build, and I think it should be really easy to mod it to get the pilot sitting up straight. In step 81 you basically build a booster seat for the pilot so he's not sitting in a well. You could just leave out the red plates, and maybe even the white bullion pieces too, and the pilot could sit down deep in the ship. I think you can also remove the white brick behind them (it doesn't appear to be structurally necessary) and have the pilot sit another stud or two rearward to get him under the highest point of the canopy. I'm not sure how deep he can sit without his arms/air tank hitting other stuff but I see how one could rearrange things. I'll probably have the steering wheel upright too.

I would be! Being pandered to feels awesome!

It's not really an issue. Maybe slightly puzzling tho, to not just wait a few days and send both together to save a box. Wait! I just got notification my Explorers have shipped!!! 😍😍😍 Not sure if it has really shipped but I have a tracking number...could just mean it's ready to go to the carrier. But I got the shipping notification for my Forest Hideout this morning, and it's is already at the Fed Ex warehouse.

Same. The Explorer isn't supposed to be "released" yet. But, not sure why they wouldn't just send it if they have it sitting there. EDIT: I guess they're probably processing orders now, and it probably takes a while to process them all, get them into shipping boxes, etc.

We missed out on a pink pirate ship mech? ☹

A new windscreen in trans-purple as mentioned in another thread:

Ah, you're right. Thanks. Yeah I don't know how many throwback sets they can get away with before saturation. I'm down for another Space set though. 🙂
-
I thought we were just talking about a single CMF series.
-
Probably because the theme of the 90th anniversary is throwback sets...actually it was widely speculated this year's theme would we a throwback theme. Much of the community expected it. Everybody seems to hate the CMF series that was just revealed so no big waste in replacing it with a throwback series IMO. Revamped throwbacks are new and unique, are they not? I don't think you give kids enough credit. They have parents, they have the internet, they watch shows like Stranger Things and get obsessed with Kate Bush. Many of them are obsessed with the 80s and old stuff. I've read so many comments from young people who find out about old Lego themes and get so excited about them. They love their parents old sets and love diving into Lego lore. And even if they don't care about references to old themes, those references don't take away from the figure. Remakes of classics should stand on their own anyway.

Deal with a booklet? What's do deal with? Having something that doesn't require batteries and a screen and and internet connection and doesn't just disappear someday when Lego decides to remove it? The more people that use the instruction app, the sooner Lego takes away physical instructions for good. I'm not going to encourage them.

Here's an opinion. Lego needs to stop putting things I want and things I don't want in the same box. Example. The new Avatar sets. I like the mech, but I'm not paying for a weird blue wolf and alien. Completely different things that appeal to different people. Put them in different boxes. Same with the cool helicopter in the same box with a boring base and some floating rocks. Put those in different boxes so I can buy the cool stuff and other people can buy the junk. Another. That super cool dino mech from Jurassic Park. I would buy the heck out of that dino mech by itself. But I don't want the big junior-ized dinosaur (hate 'em) and I am definitely not wasting money on that stupid volcano. Even themes I really like had this problem. I really liked the speeder from the Galaxy Squad Hive Crawler set, but didn't really feel the big alien bug. So I passed on it. So I already know the replies I'm gonna get. Yeah yeah, Lego does this to include "conflict in every box". I categorically reject that strategy. Other toys don't need to do that, and neither does Lego. No other toy line I've bought from as a kid or adult had that. I just bought the good guys I liked and the bad guys I liked. It works. And it means I buy more stuff because I can just buy what I want. I guarantee that for every person who only likes half the set but still buys it, there are 10 people who pass on the set altogether.

It's interesting that Lego has decided to reuse the Space symbol but assign it different colors for different missions/planets. Cool in a way, but also makes each print less useful. I don't really want to use either of those for traditional Space MOCs. Although I guess I could assign them new missions/planets. Maybe the blue one for Seatron (ocean planet) and the orange one for some desert exo-planet. There's even a silver logo, I assume for Moon missions, on a sticker for the Moon drone from Lunar Research Base. The blue and orange astronaut torsos also have the silver logo for some reason.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
danth replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wow. I love that so much. I'm almost tearing up over it which is a weird reaction. It just looks so much like the kind of thing you used to see on the back of the box, or in the old Ideas books. Totally whimsical builds that radiate charm. -
I feel like Lego doesn't do themselves any favors by mixing factions in single sets the way they do. Would I buy that mech suit by itself? Absolutely. Will I buy it for $60 packed with a goofy blue wolf? Absolutely not. Would I buy that helicopter by itself? Yes. Am I going to spend $90 to get it? No. I don't care about the floating rocks or aliens. Also, I don't really get how that is a 887 piece set, either. It just doesn't look like that much stuff. I'm guessing for every person who buys a set even though they only like half of it, there are 10 people who skip the set entirely.

Here's something pretty specific. Most Vic Vipers are ugly. I'm tired of that format completely. Having a whole month just for that format is overkill. Bonus related and even more specific opinion; the Unitron Starhawk II is super ugly!

Seatron! By ky-eeeee. Very nicely shaped spaceship by Cagri: Loving the shape of this Mars Mission spaceship by -soccerkid6: Not sure what's happening here but I'm intrigued; Rover by Huw Gwilliam: This is hilarious because it's a giant chainsaw! By WyndGekko:

Thanks for the link! Interesting...the pilot in the smallest ship is leaning back a bit. In the original set, the pilot sat down between the wings, which isn't duplicated here. You can see the bottom of the pilot compartment here; it's the grey inverted slope bricks under the wings: I might need to modify the new 918 build to lower the cockpit, which would match the original and get that pilot more room to sit up.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
danth replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think we've reach the point where continuing the conversation is pointless. If you've decided you can't tell the difference between something that came out of the designer's own imagination (the Exo Suit, the Barracuda Bay shipwreck, etc) and something that already exists (the set of the Office, the set of Seinfeld, etc), then there's no meaningful conversation to be had. -
Nice link. That reviewer also suspects the black air tank is a possible hint for an upcoming black spaceman GWP! I didn't notice that the new radar print had a Blacktron "bogie" indicator on it until seeing those pics. I think a big part of it is that Lego hasn't cultivated their Lego Space fandom at all in recent years. They've neglected Castle too, but Castle has a bit of a revitalization after the Creator 3-in1 Castle and Medieval Blacksmith. And they also got the Forest Hideout reveal leading up to the big Castle. There's just more to talk about over there. I'm pretty happy with the tiles. I really like the big logo and some of the computer tiles. The tile that's half grate/vent and half control panel is kind of a head scratcher though. I think there is a walky talky included.
