  1. I suppose it gives the illusion of being able to moc it when you rearrange it. I still don't get the appeal. So much material goes into making it customisable that it really limits the design of the builds. All these boxes just don't excite me in any way. They were so repetitive and had all the same elements in them. It's a hard pass for me on this design. "And they are not consistent at al". The only thing thats consistent in the new style is that they are boxes that can stack. They all look different from the outside and can look ugly when arranged in certain configurations. The old style looked like the actual building. How is that inconsistent? Realistic but not inconsistent. So the final product from this new line will be one long building with random towers and you will be hard pushed to distinguish what part of the castle it's supposed to be. The interiors might be more fun for kids as its little vignettes all bunched together. And cost is always an issue with lego but the chamber this year was the most expensive main set ever for Hogwarts castle builds. It's the most successful in the new style but you pay for it. The girls bathroom is probably the only other successful interior design. The rest are boring and the quidditch lessons breaks the new system with its middle section. So when people say that the new clock tower section will be boring and ugly I can see how they got there. You can picture it being three identical boxes with beds in them and thats not exciting. Maybe it will live up to the rest of this years theme and people will say that it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Not what I thought I'd be saying about Harry Potter sets but this year has brought me there.
  2. “Our overall values are more in line with the first movies where there’s more magic, and the universal theme of a wizarding school is more in line with our values.” I love that their values are based around Harrys parents murder, abusive foster parents, bullying of kids, child murder of Myrtle in the second movie, Demonic possession of Quirell, Animal cruelty of the unicorn, Lucious trying to murder harry with the killing curse. Harrys story is dark throughout all the movies so this comment is bull really. They like doing sets with the kids doing magic school stuff maybe but you can only do so much sets with that. They must have feedback that kids really only watch the first few movies so they are basing the sets around scenes from them. Nothing to do with values and more to do with sales. And thats fine. If this wave doesn't sell as well we may get more sets that we prefer next year. I can't imagine Gringotts bank not being Deathly Hallows based or be like Diagon alley and have multiple scenes included. Same with Ministry of magic and Malfoy manor only appears in the last movies. So we have gone from micro scale, mini figure scale to odd icons scale in the large sets. Hopefully we go from icons set back to mini figure scale set next year and that is one of the above sets. I think the ministry would make a great long set like Diagon alley but just be interiors and not focus on the outside. I fell we are going to get remakes from now on as well. Everyone seems to think Hagrids hut will be done again but I'm happy with the last one. A whole new hut but with the dog and the dragon baby could be an easy skip for me and a bricklink parts purchase instead. Thats my rant anyway.
  3. Very nice alterations. I think the designers got trapped in movie accuracy and fitting that on the baseplate. What they came up with is kind of what is in the movie but the newspaper door area isn't as wide so the overhang should not be as big as it is. The should have made the first floor of QQS be the newspaper office instead. All finished designing this side of the street. I've now added the old joke shop as we catch a glimpse of it in the Chamber of Secrets movie and the Leaky cauldron. Instructions available on rebrickable.com account micmacpadwac.
  4. We got modular lite with Diagon Alley, on a baseplate but half a building. They could stick to that like I did in my moc but I don't see Gringotts being a good candidate for fully sealed modular with a closed back. It's an odd shaped building and if they go full modular style baseplate you would want the other side of the alley to balance the display out. They could go full modular but with open back, it would be a new style for lego but I'm not sure if that's something the modular city people want. They could go Hogsmeade style and like the version of the bank in 2010 and have no baseplate and be free to add play features with cart and a safe area that are not limited by a set base area. This would still allow you to add it to you display but have lots of other display options.
  5. I think lego will give us Gringotts at some stage but that it won't be designed to be added to the Diagon Alley set. Now don't loose your minds yet, I think it will be in a similar scale and will look great if you do add it to you alley but I feel they may design it to be a stand alone set to give them more freedom with the design of it. This gives them more options to either give us a simply $100 set (american value for simplicity) or a $300 set with more detail, a dragon and a mine cart section. I'm not sure they would break the second option into multiply add on sets either. I just don't see them giving us expansions to the current style of Diagon Alley as I feel we should have gotten the Bank this year if they were going to do it that way as you really want them to be available at the same time to complete the street. And the other side of the street isn't well known enough to give us another $400 set. By breaking the bank out of this layout you can have both available but not dependant on each other.
  6. These custom series are always a good prediction for possible future figures. Some of these look great and we have two already, gold Hagrid and birthday Dursley. @all._about._ari_ @nicolegoyus @noah_rdraw @ashnflash @minifigs.psd @potterminifigpals @toplego8 @nick_makes_art @lucas_fanarts_
  7. Yeah the wands are too detailed for the lego theme but the broom? We are definitely due a new mould soon and if you take off the kick stand its fits with lego style of accessories. And the toad would make a nice accessory for a figure. Yeah the mohawk cat is an odd choice as its unusable in any other theme. We need Hagrids dog and Hermoines cat mould at some stage and they would be easily added to other themes if the printing on them was changed.
  8. Saw these on Lego Cy facebook page and they seem to be custom parts for Harry Potter. They are from a Chinese site so I can't navigate to them but they look pretty cool and I'd love to see the cfm figures get accessories like these in the future. Wands are a bit big but the broom is amazing. And the frog. We definitely need a new mould.
  9. I know I'm a bit of a downer on this years sets only because I really like the Harry Potter line but this time last year we were on around 500 pages of discussion, we were all speculating what Diagon Alley was going to contain and we had sticker leaks. The CMF Harry Potter figures were on the horizon. We were still predicting what sets we might get from the deathly Hallows in 2021, we were doing wanted lists of most wanted sets and figures and we were still to get the moments sets that I don't think we knew about yet. It was an exciting time for Lego Harry Potter fans on here anyway. And a year later it's a different feeling here. We really don't know where the line is going so its hard to predict what Hogwarts sets we might get. Its more like what scene would you like to see and I'll stuff it in a box shape set that has no defining features that might look kind of like a random part of the castle. I'm a bit more optimistic about what scenes other than Hogwarts castle we might get, shell cottage, wedding scene, second task. But now it's possible to get busts, items and other random stuff and it's not something I really think about. I would have loved a ministry of magic set over the items set this year. That would have created pages and pages of chat and excitement. Now we discuss how the item set isn't as bad as we thought it might be. I would be happy to see the item set at a lego convention built by a fan and I'd be super impressed at their talent. But I don't need it as a set. I'm all for variety in the wave but if the effort that went into the items sets was lavished over the castle sets this year I might be a happier Lego Harry Potter fan.
  10. Yeah i've kept the opening mechanism but I haven't decorated inside yet. I'll do an interior later on in the week maybe. Cheers. I was surprised that a lot of people were not crazy about getting this as a set when we were all speculating about what sets we might have gotten this yeah. I am looking forward to seeing what lego come up with for it.
  11. I converted the new Lego Mario Air ship into the Durmstrang ship.
  12. The new set looks lovely. Lovely is how I feel about these types of sets. Really nice details and cute builds. I have Hedwig, fun build and off to the shelf with it. I got Fawkes as well as it was going cheap, off to the shelf to gather dust too. So this sets is more lovely but do I think the $ are worth spending on it to build and then set it up somewhere to look at. Probably not for me but I can see why other people would. The other Hedwig was at price point that was an impulse buy and it had an exclusive figure. The Golden figures are not really must have figures, I would like the golden witch hat and Dumbledore hat but I can bricklink them or hopefully lego will have them. So I can see the appeal but these sets are never must have sets. My logical brain kicks in and I make adult decisions about them as opposed to my child 'must have now' brain buying normal Harry Potter play sets. So it's a bit sad now that we have seen everything that 2021 has to offer, a mixed bag that had more lows than highs for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with next year and hopefully they are not planning a three year run of the new Hogwarts stackable style. And even if they are I think the none hogwarts locations will still be the same quality as the Hogsmeade set as they are stand alone sets. Building my Hogwarts mocs will keep me inspired this year. I'm building the Durmstrang ship at the moment which I do think we might get a version of next year.
  13. I wonder will they be the same scale as the big Harry. I can imagine them doing a sorting hat and broom at that scale but who knows what we will get until we get some leaks. Any hints of what scale they are using by the people who are in the know would be nice.
  14. Yeah I'm sure he actually said something vague like always about Gringotts. But a few tidbits in there that were interesting and explain why Golden Quirrell was in the set he was in and that Harry was originally by himself which I think would have been a better choice. I see loads of that set sitting on the shelves at my local kmart, I think the cost of two figures together is too expensive. Gringotts will come eventually but who knows where the Harry potter theme is going after this year. Do they continue 2021 style, do they do a bit of both styles. I'm really not sure. I do think the new style gives them more options to create scenes from the movies but its a shame they come in generic boxy castle design sets. I feel like the moments sets were another way of doing scenes but i'm not sure they work either as they get stuffed into a book shape and you get the mostly useless book cover piece. Hopefully we get series three mini figure packs next year as they are always great and some deathly Hallows sets would be welcomed. And if they do moments sets again this year I'd be happy with the four common rooms in book form. I do feel that this years sets really have dampened the buzz of Lego Harry Potter for me. Its no longer a buy every set theme anymore which was inevitable but still sad. Heres hoping for a much better 2022 wave.
  15. Someone on facebook said he got some from lego discovery shop in Queensland but they never listed them online on their site. So I feel the lego shops may be getting small batches in but they may not appear online. I've checked my local lego shop a few times but no luck.
  16. I have never seen any of the harry potter poly bags in the wild here in oz. Not in a lego store or the supermarkets here where you can sometimes find them. Where do people find them?
  17. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I did this a few weeks ago and you can just use two body parts instead of pricyplasticproduct who uses 8 to save money. He stands up but all the moveable sections are gone. Still better than the fat body though.
  18. I feel you pain. The only one i have on display is. Hogsmeade. The rest have been butchered for parts, such a waste really. I think he is just disappointed with the theme this year, no reevaluation of his life choices required. He's allowed to be upset if he want to be. It's so annoying that we had the anniversary this year, I wonder if it was next year would they have rebooted the wave so early. Its very hard to predict what lego will do normally but it seemed like we had worked out where the Harry potter line was going with the two book per year thing. Its very frustrating when it's pulled from under you. I know what you mean but to say its not entirely bad when you hate most of the sets and they don't interest you is funny. My fear is that all I will want from future sets are prints, new figures and new parts. If I have to BrickLink parts from the new harry potter set next year then the theme is dying a death.
  19. I see people trading them on the different facebook groups here in melbourne. Send me your list of what you are missing and what you have to trade and I'll keep an eye out for you. I just need two now. The chess set is $85 on amazon at the moment, matching bigw's sale. I just ordered one but really just for the figures and to play around with some of the chess pieces to make them a bit better but for a scene display. I have zero interest in the chess set really.
  20. I totally agree. So i have just finished building the last of the sets I wanted, all the castle sets really, and as expected I didn't really enjoy this years sets. I started with the toilet set, I like the inside hate the building its stuffed in. Then the flying lesson, boring build, boring inside but look ok when finished. Then fluffy, was happy to build fluffy as he wasn't boring castle build and then i did boring castle build. Ended on the largest set which was the best build but only because it had the bigger builds that were a bit different. The new system has trapped itself in these three sized buildings, the great hall size, the bathroom set size and the smallest one like the vines or lockharts office. The build of the two smallest of these are awfully dull builds, where one side mirrors the other. It all gets a bit boring after a while and there is overuse of big lego parts. The interiors are really poor in most of these with a few exceptions but that's due to new stickers and new parts and nothing to do with build quality. And the interior spaces really aren't any better that the 2018/2020 and I think they really only suffered because of budget. So when you start blending different sets you realise lego has broken its own system with the door section of the flying lesson set and the door to the chamber of secrets. I think the chamber door just needed to be a separate piece that didn't need to connect and the middle section of the flying lessons needed to fit the system size. I just don't understand why they left them odd sizes. And when you start mixing up all the sets they really don't look right together, they look like they were designed over a bunch of years and that's why they don't match. The great hall is probably the only exception in build enjoyability and it looks ok on the matching base but it still doesn't improve on the last version. I think I enjoyed it because it was different from all the other size builds. I love the new figures and the new parts and the stickers are mostly great. I've fixed fluffy already but I always knew I would have to do that as he is designed to be played with. Fixed the snake as well but I'm loving the new mould for him. I think this years sets are nothing on the sets we were getting before and I'm worried what we might get next year if this system continues which I think it will. I just don't understand why they wouldn't continue with the final years of Harrys story and then fill in the gaps. Hopefully they start to dot later story sets into the coming waves so we gradually get the sets if lego isn't happy to give us a full wave of Deathly Hallows sets. I have 12 of 16 as well but the only one i have that you need is Godric Gryffindor, Happy to send you it for silver Dumbledore.
  21. Out of my six so far I have three identical :( Ive just built the bathroom and the interior is very cool, love the sinks and the toilet. But it's such an ugly little block from the other side and that stupid window that doesn't go with any of the other set designs, I've removed it already. And the worst was the sticker sheet, they could have added a spare mirror sticker as the shiny sticker is there but just not cut out. Now i'll have to try and cut it out which never goes well.
  22. Not mad on this years advent calendar. The side builds are not very interesting. It does seem to have a lot of gringotts references though. some nice prints for leaky cauldron and not sure what the 1x2 tan tile print is. (Its a train ticket) And two chocolate frog tiles as well.
  23. yeah in lockdown. I wish lego would sort out their gift with purchase. Book of monsters didn't match up with Diagon alley, nothing with daily bugle set. They seem to be unable to coordinate them to match anymore. Will get Bugle eventually but thought it was a bit indulgent to get it so close to Harry sets being released. On the kmart prices, I remember one year getting newly released harry potter sets and they weren't that discounted and then two weeks later the prices went down. And then last year the burrow was really cheap and then it went up a few days later.
  24. Kmart have them listed on their site, Hopefully you are near a store with stock.
