  1. The US dates are what they have on their site. My only hope is that like the last batch of sets the official lego shops in Melbourne were getting stock in when the website didn't even have them for sale. It's odd that they put the shack and the dragon up for presale but now the dragon is an august release.
  2. I was checking release dates for the new Harry Potter sets on the lego site. UK has them all for 1st June, lovely. US has them down for June 19th release. Not too bad, I know ye have been screwed over with some of the release dates sometimes but a few weeks isn't the end of the world. Australia.....Shack 1st june....Grimmauld place 23rd june....ok ...everything else 1st august.....Nooooooooo We never usually get the rubbish release schedule over here.
  3. The younger Castle looks great in it and it will be worth it just to have a wander around Hogwarts and its surrounding villages and hopefully we get some sets based on it just to give the theme some variety. I won't hold my breath though. It will be useful for moc inspiration anyway. Fighting in it looks a bit off in it. A lot of baddies waiting their turn to attack you. And i hope their is no micro transactions, I did notice in your room of requirements a timer appear on a potion he was making.
  4. So here is my version of the two styles blended together. The exterior design of 2019 and the interior space of 2022. It makes it wider and deeper so I've added extra windows. I've kept some of the new features from the 2022 set that I think work well like the modular nature, the open side arch pieces to keep it accessible and the removable long brick to help with access for play.

  6. I watched Hollys video and thought the opposite, what a train wreck the new style looks like from the outside. It looks like it was designed by different people that got a tiny brief at the start and then they never communicated again. I really don't feel like they put enough time into some of the smaller sets last year to bring the whole design together and it really lets the new system down. And the new clocktower and flying lessons look like they are from a different line and have been added to it just because they fit. Interiors are much better due to the extra width but not all the room benefit from it. They needed an official layout for the last version of Hogwarts as well and to design that into all the sets. I think both series have some design issues which I think lego really need to put more time into working them out in the future. I'm glad you enjoy the new style. I'm loving the figures and new parts anyway.
  7. So I did some minor alterations to the official set and created a ground floor to go with it. I feel like it's possible to make these modular sets much more film accurate while keeping them in the new style. I feel that they could have done so much more with this set to make it a must have. I've added Harry practicing Expecto Patronum with Lupin and Dementor coming out of the new trunk on the ground floor. The courtyard and fountain that are supposed to be in the new Sirius escape set this summer could have been added to this set too. I'll put more pictures up on instagram.
  8. Its the tiny bit of extra floor space that makes the interiors better than the 2018/2020 style but that's all it has going for it, Two studs deeper. Three nearly identical boxes and the clock. It's all about exclusive figure and new pieces with this modular system. I do think the building looks better than last years stuff but its not Hogwarts. I really do think lego could have built more accurate builds that still had the ability to break up and be rearranged. I might have a play around and see if I can do a better version of this set in a more accurate style. Wait until you see how ugly the trunk is from behind.
  9. Got some of the march sets today. Built theTrunk and the "Clock Tower" so far. Thoughts on them: The Clock Tower is actually quite a nice building to look at and is a vast improvement on some of the ugly sets they gave us last year. The build is a bit repetitive and the little half roofs leave it looking a bit unfinished. It doesn't look like the source material but I think those days are gone now. I like the hinge sides, it add some variety to it and opens it up for playability. The clock turning mechanics works well and I like all the cogs, feels like the movie scene. The best part of getting the new set was the figures and the new accessories. Tiny skull head is adorable in a disturbing way. Love the new trunk top and its nice to get the flying owl in a new colour and print. Wish the bean box has more sides printed, has lego ever printed four sides of a brick? Pomfrey figure is great and the hat hair piece is fab. The trio variants are nice but they really don't feel that new as we have these outfits before minus the dirt and damage. Its a nice set that feels like its missing half of it that would fit under what we got but I suppose that's what the new system is. The Trunk set is a nice build but i feel it looks better in the pictures than it does in reality. The back of the case is the shelves and cupboards all lined up to seal the case and its not pretty to look at. The curve of the front made from the house colours is not repeated on the back and it looks like you have chopped a trunk in half. It's a lot smaller that i thought it wast too and I think I preferred the fantastic beasts case better. The highlight is the new torsos and all the skin colours. Its worth it just for the new head colours. The stickers are really nice too and not too cartoonish. I feel you could use some of the big case stickers for signs in Diagon alley and Hogsmeade and the banner stickers and floating candles with the windows would work with the great hall set. If you are not that fussed about all the new face colours and prints I'd say you could skip this. I did get divinations class book but I haven't built that yet. I'm not mad on these. I build them and then they get put in a display case never to be touched again. I'll take the figures out and use them in my mocs. Anyway hope this was of use to someone.
  10. Stonewars is guessing that the $120 set might be the continuation of the big fig Harry and Hermione and might be Ron and Dumbledore. Sounds plausible as we have a lot of minifig scale sets this year and only the Dragon is different so far. http://itools.com/tool/google-translate-web-page-translator for anyone who doesn't speak German you can use this google tool to translate the whole stonewars web site and not have to translate individual portions of text using normal google translate.
  11. Nice list of sets this year with lots of potential. Hopefully the ministry feels like a complete building rather than a bunch of seperate builds but as long as it has some good figures, parts and stickers it can be improved on. I can imagine it spanning multiple movies like diagon alley did. Looking forward to this the most. Shrieking shack will probably only disappoint by leaving out some key figures that are it that scene. Ideally we would get the wolf and dog but that could always be next years cheap set with a tree build on the side. I'll have to see the Hogwarts castle sets to see what they look like. I'm not a fan of the new system, its very repetitive, but the new clock tower while being nothing like the actual building looks much better than some of the add on sets from last year. Its still a box with a clock on it though with some nice figures. The carriage sound good for the cheap set and looking forward to the baby thestral and hopefully Luna has her blue outfit from that scene on. I love ninjago dragons so hopefully the dragon is a good dragon build and not another gimmick build with moving wings. It would be totally out of scale next to Hedwig and Fawkes if it is that style again. And then we have the mystery sets. $120 could be the ship or the bank and the big set....who knows. If we get the ship and then an extension to Diagon Alley OMG this will be an amazing year and we will all be poor. Even if the large set is a minifigure scale play set of anything in Harry Potter world I think it will be amazing. I'm just worried its another thing that ill think is cool but I don't need it like the owl on the books. Looking forward to the reveal of some pictures.
  12. Hopefully Harry potter summer reveal being last might be a good sign that there are some good sets in there. I've just finished all my additions to the Hogwarts 2018/2020 style. There was still a lot of potential left in that version of Hogwarts. Still don't understand why they wouldn't finish it. Well anyway here's my version. https://rebrickable.com/users/micmacpadwac/mocs/
  13. Great job, fab version of him. All my moc additions to the official lego Hogwarts sets. Instructions are finished and up now. https://rebrickable.com/users/micmacpadwac/mocs/
  14. Happy new year to all. Not really a lego comment but just watched the new HBO return to Hogwarts, It was so nice to see a lot of the old cast come back together and see them interact again. Its very well made and a little bit sad. I shed a tear or two at the end. I would recommend to all.
  15. I think we discussed this before but another large set of Diagon Alley shops costing more than the first set will mean that lego will have two large expensive sets of Diagon alley available at the same time. Thats a put off to get the original set or the new one knowing that you really need to get the other set too. Whereas the bank by itself is appealing as a standalone set or an add on to the street. I just don't see this being Gringotts. I'm just hoping its a minifigure scale set and not another item build or miniature scale build. I'll be happy with whatever they make as long as its minifigure scale.
  16. With the current wave being split between: 1. the old style builds for non Hogwarts buildings 2. the anniversary style stackable boxes 3. the buildable items holding scenes like the books and chest 4. the large one off set 5. And the usual vehicle build I'd love to hear what sets people people think we might get in those styles in 2022. Do we think the anniversary box design will continue this summer. Here's a few of my thoughts. 1. Wedding tent, shell cottage, Shrieking shack. The tent would be great for outfits and some guests that were at the wedding and you wouldn't get them otherwise. Shell cottage could be a cute build that might sell it and the shack would be good to get Padfoot in. I wonder would they ever make the leaky cauldron as a seperate building with the magic wall. 2. I can see them doing Umbridges office in the box style maybe as it would fit the style. Dumbledore office could be done in the box style as well. The common rooms have been stolen by the trunk so I doubt we will see them in the boxes. Maybe a troll set but thats another bathroom set again. 3. We will have gotten most of the iconic classes in the book style and I'm not sure they will do all the different dark arts teachers class as they are all the same room. 4. Gringotts hopefully but maybe ministry. Or another train but I'm not keen on that. Would love a large great hall with courtyard. 5. Drumstrang ship maybe. And I'd love to see series 3 of the Harry potter figures. Still plenty of characters we have not gotten yet.
  17. I think Bessa is no longer running this theme and yes dropping the style killed my passion for what lego was doing with the theme. Now I feel like I'm a bah humbug every time I make a comment on here. if lego is confident enough to make these Hogwarts buildings that look nothing like Hogwarts I don't see why they wouldn't have risked making less well know parts of the castle in the original style and added better interiors and cool characters to them to make sure they sold.
  18. yeah I think this summers sets will clear up what's going on with the theme as I can't see any longevity in this style. I really can't see a return to the old style as the anniversary sets have continued into this 2022 but hopefully the non Hogwarts based sets continue to be of a better quality.
  19. I'm in the same boat, i think sets based on a current movie might give us the missing spark the sets are missing at the moment. I thought he said the green roofs were sticking around but he never said the anniversary sets were. And the childish first movie stuff is such a lame answer from him, lego are making sets for the very dark looking new batman movie. Lego can always find sets no matter how dark a movie gets. They made a set with a baby Voldemort that you put in a pot with blood a hand and a bone of his father, and he is reborn in flames into a pasty half snake version of himself. How did that get made but we can't have a tent with the trio in the woods or the wedding tent or shell cottage. These are very tame sets that I think people would like for the new prints of the trio. I still can't believe that a company like lego had no long term plan for the new harry potter line that didn't stretch past three years. The sets were selling really well so they reboot the line to give us sets we already have and they don't finish the last few movies. I think they saw $$$ and ruined the first wave trajectory with the anniversary sets and now I'm not sure there is a path back to that style. Yeah i don't see where this style can go after this year. I doubt we will see a plan of how to integrate them all together ever again, Its just going to become a mess of a build that will look nothing like Hogwarts. If this was a rebooted castle theme would anyone be interested in it. I doubt it.
  20. Each to their own but I'm sorry have you looked at the actual clock tower. You are off your tree if you think the new one is better which according to you only needs a whole extra floor to make it look right. If you want a perfectly accurate model you moc it yourself and this design by lego is as as accurate as you will ever get from them and it doesn't need a lot of altering to make it perfect in this scale. I used a lot of the design from this when I built my large version.
  21. Hopefully this Clock Tower is the end of this anniversary version of Hogwarts. Buying sets just for the figures is depressing. When you look back at the old clock tower you see how wonderfully designed it was to make it look like the movie version. This new one could be anything, they just stuck a clock on wall with windows. It's just such a bland version of Hogwarts. I think we are in a messy transition period for the Harry Potter line. Getting the two book sets and the trunk at the same time seems odd as they are all the same idea really. I'm all for new types of sets to give the theme a longer life but it seems like we got all the filler sets at the same time and not peppered through a solid wave. I'm really not sure what the thought process was at lego not to continue the old style and make Deathly Hallows sets, We know there is a demand for them here as its all we talked about for months. I think the summer wave this year will let us know where the theme is going, if we get more green roof Hogwarts we might be stuck with that ugly duck for 2023 as well. Hopefully we get something that puts a nail in that styles coffin and we move onto better designed sets again. I do think we could get a UCS great Hall and courtyard eventually and that might have some battle of Hogwarts elements. It's the most iconic building and I think people would love the more detailed version. And Gringotts has to be made eventually, I still feel that lego may break the mould and not make it on a base plate like the rest of Diagon Alley so they can add extra play features. Let's see what the summer brings.
  22. Anyone in Australia, I see that lego Doncaster and all the other physical official Lego stores are doing the free with purchase Harry potter set in store and online today but you don't have to buy Harry Potter sets to get it. Spend $200 on anything and you'll get it free.
  23. It's a shame that there isn't anything Harry Potter I need at the moment to get the gift with purchase. And the threshold is $200 in Australia. They never match up with the release of the major harry potter sets. This would have been a lovely bonus with the chamber set this year and a reason to buy it from lego themselves. They messed up the book of monsters last year as I'm sure it was supposed to be a gift with Diagon alley and they dropped the Hagrid set in instead. Then they sold the book of monsters for a bit in store and then it was a gift with purchase after that. What a mess. I always feel that parts lego corporate just don't work well.
  24. cheers, its the lego ice queens head from one of the cmf series
