Well...yes, I do know it was reused from that set. That's why I said that "if reuse was necessary", I would have preferred "the other female torso from the Barracuda Bay". I agree those Black Falcons 2.0 are cool. By the way, it would have been even cooler if the archer minifig included a nod to the Forestmen! Something like the CMF Rogue's Wolfpack brooch...

Aaah, buttons...Another subject that remind me of heated discussions between my medievalist/reenactor acquaintances. From what I remember (and from what I just re-checked on google), buttons were already in used in Europe during the Middle-Ages, at least from the 12th century onward, but not as widely as today and mainly on sleeves. Medieval gambesons were more often laced (at least here in France). For women, cotehardies with front buttons date from the late Middle Ages only. To me, a sleeveless waistcoat over a shirt like the one worn by the archer screams 18th century. 17th century at the soonest. It does not really bother me that TLG included this torso in there as I consider it as a fantasy set. But still, I would have preferred a new, more medieval, print - or if reuse was necessary, the other female torso from the Barracuda Bay, which I find more original and detailed.

@Grover Don't worry, this experience did not prevent me from enjoying this fair (and many others) and I'm still amazed by the dedication and hard work of reenactors and the educational value of their activities. @KristinnK I totally agree with you concerning the minifigs! New medieval civilian minifigs would have been so appreciated. As far as I'm concerned, especially female : I love the recent skirt part mold, but there are too few printed options for commoners! Now I hope that this pretty dun horse will be available thtough B&P, I definitely need a small herd…

Thank you @henrysunset for your interesting review! The discussions about the historical accuracy of this set remind me of a little story that happened at a medieval fair a few years ago… The public attending that annual fair is generally a merry mix of hardcore reenactors who consider that modern underwear should be banned because it's not historical, young ladies dressed as Daenerys Targaryen (so many Danys…), and kids with shiny nylon tabards and foam armors. One reenactor got quite mad at me, because I was wearing a "very 12th century France" dress with museum-grade replica of 11th century scandinavian earrings. A heated discussion ensued with a fellow reenacor, about whether such a merely plausible outfit could count as historical, or if it could only qualify if all elements could be sourced to the same geographical area and timeframe. Meanwhile, I was quite embarassed because I was not aiming at anything historical, but simply at something nice that would fit in the mood of the fair. I think the Medieval Blacksmith set suffers from the same issue as my outfit that day : not explicitely "fantasy" enough to prevent people from discussing its historical accuracy, but still "fantasy", so of course not historical enough to satisfy those people...

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

My order from January 1st has not shipped yet. Since they claim a 5 to 7 week delay for B&P orders to be shipped, I would not expect to receive it soon! -
May I venture a pure speculation? My guess would be that one of the sets will feature a panda, probably re-using the bear body mold with a new head. The Friends Panda Tree House seems to have been a great success (it's on backorder at least in France, Germany and the US), TLG is quite interested in the Chinese market, and the panda is arguably the best-known flagship species. And we already have bamboos to feed them thanks to this year's Spring Lantern Festival set! Otherwise, I also think that an elephant and male lion are quite likely, in which case the sets won't take place in the same geographical area (just like last year's Friends Jungle sets did). I'd love a white tiger too, and recolored monkeys!

How interesting! Here in France, it will cost 159,99€. Maybe it's because of the different tax rates?

Also newly available : - red wheelchair (ID 6334202) - but not its green wheels! - lime dog harness (ID 6325398) - but none of the dogs is back - dark azure plate with bicycle pattern (ID 6329620, cycle lane marker from set 60306) - twin bun hairpiece in dark brown (ID 6333518) - "Vita Rush" printed round brick (ID 6310230) -
What a gorgeous gate! The shaping of the defensive towers is perfect, and they're beautifully decorated.
-
Very nice building! The texture of the roof looks great, and I like the detailing of the walls too.
-
Very nice build! I love the texture you created on the walls.

One more amazing brick-built creature from you! It reallly looks lively. The rather intricate design of the head is very beautiful, and I love the wings : they may look a bit too thick if viewed from the side, but their shape is just perfect and nicely detailed. The landscaping is gorgeous too, great rockwork and color palette!

No problem! I just saw the article on Brickset and thought the same thing! The bird indeed does not look as white as the white wall on its left... (cropped from the Brickset article photo)

I ordered a few of those parts in black in september. They are still available on B&P, but with their alternate IDs (Element 6318701 / Design 25893)! -
1. Yes 2. I was a late voter, and I voted only because it was a medieval-themed set cruising steadily towards the 10 000 votes. I still vote for any medieval-themed idea with a chance to make it as an actual IDEAS set. I crave for new medieval minifig parts (even better if civilian), more animals, and would enjoy a nice display set. Why did I not vote for it earlier? Because just like @Aanchir it had not grabbed my attention and I had not seen it. The overly faded colors and overly textured walls and roofs are not an aeshtetics I enjoy. So I'm really disappointed by the lack of new medieval civilian minifigs in the final set (my GOH sigfig would appreciate a new dress!), slightly disappointed by the animals (I had no hope for a goat or an animal-packed set), but I will enjoy the set on display in my future LEGO room.

It seems like we'll got a recolored horse (tan, with a large printed bridle) and a husky in the Ideas Blacksmith set. I have to confess I have absolutely no idea on how to use it...

I will! -
I agree. Moreover, hard to tell on the photos I've seen, but it seems like the female archer has the same green torso as one of the pirate ladies from the Barracuda bay, which does not look right either. Anyway, yay for the recolored horse!

I've ordered that element before. It's the chrome gold one unless they've changed it. Yes, that's what I found intriguing as the color is explicitely named as "W.Gold" on the B&P website. I ordered just one part out of curiosity... EDIT : weird. On brickset, this element ID corresponds to a "warm gold" / "pearl gold" version of the ring (as seen in the parts details). No chrome gold version there, even in the LOTR sets...
