My order from June 1st showed up! Still patiently waiting for a few animals to come back in stock...but already great parts for all the MOC settings I enjoy. For jungle builds... For fantasy builds... -
The landscaping is really impressive, both in colour and texture! Just the perfect dose of studs vs tiles, slopes vs plates...I love the tower too - quite sleek and well proportioned. Gorgeous build!
-
I really like the monochrome and rather square-ish look of the tower, and how it contrasts with the vegetation. And, again, I'm impressed by Bob's coolness!
-
Oh, how cool! So glad to get to know Bob better! As already mentioned, nice choice of colors - and that pond indeed looks eerie. Bob looks quite relaxed given his situation!

Oh wow. I just don't know which ones I would pick among them - definitely the Alraune and Dark elf, who are both astounding fantasy minifigs, and the Monster Fighter and Outback Guy who are adventurers. But my, the factory worker, marionette, train enthusiast, space boy, Horus, ... are also wonderfully designed even if they don't fit in my LEGO MOC worlds!

How great! That's amazing news and I'm eager to see what everyone will come up with (especially in the Tales task)! Hopefully I'll find some time to build between the end of the renovation of our house and the beginning of the landscaping of the garden... -
They're so great! The Teutonic Knight is my instant favourite. Then, of course, Indiana Jane and the Centaur.
-
Oh great, really looking forward to Indiana Jane and the Holy Grail!

That BAM fig does look great, but neither the torso nor the legs are BAM exclusives... The torso is from Ninjago's Lloyd FS minifig and the legs from The LEGO movie's Battle-ready Lucy. -
I agree. There is no absolute. Each of us would have a different appreciation of a "Something-Castle" hybrid theme, as it all boils down to personal taste. I, for one, would remain equally indifferent to both a Space-Castle and a Pirate-Castle hybrid themes, because none of them would resonate with my interest in medieval history. And it's not a matter of historical accuracy : fantasy elements such as dragons and wizards would be perfectly attuned with my perception of a "Castle" theme as inspired by the western european Middle-Ages. Because those fantasy elements already belonged to the collective imaginary in those days, and are an integral part of medieval heritage. Bestiaries feature unicorns and wyverns, and sculpted gryphons can be found in cathedrals. The Matter of Britain (the well-known legendary stories of King Arthur and his knights) is rich with magical beings. Even the quite martial, down-to-earth Matter of France (the lesser-known legendary stories of Charlemagne and his paladins) occasionnaly features a cockatrice or a giant! But that is only my personal, subjective vision, and I cannot draw conclusions regarding the probability, pertinence or success of LEGO themes that don't echo that vision.
-
I tend to agree with @MAB : while the visuals for the Mythica theme park area are splendid, they do not have medieval features. Fantasy, definitely - but not medieval-fantasy, which is the fiction sub-genre I associate with the LEGO Castle theme.

That's so frustrating! You guys see so many parts from my wishlist as available on B&P, but it's still not the case here in France...Hopefully that means they will be available soon! -

I was able to order a few of them last saturday. Not all element were available at the time either, for example the mermaid's hairpiece was not. The order shows up in my history with all appropriate Element IDs - but those Element IDs indeed don't return any result on B&P right now. No cancellation notice received yet, hopefully I won't receive any... -
I would nominate the hermit crab as the smallest too, but probably Smaug from the 2014 Hobbit sets as the biggest!

Last year's ocean exploration polybag included the stingray, which was also included in larger sets. I hold out little hope that the wildlife rescue polybag will be different and include an animal that would not be in an other set of that wave. But I do hope it will include one of the new molds as opposed to a crocodile, for example!

How to make a black castle less boring
Aurore replied to SerenityInFire's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This sounds like an interesting challenge! I agree with the previous commenters : textured walls, architectural details on the castle itself, or landscape/surrounding details, can balance a quite monochrome palette. For example, this castle uses very few colors but is far from boring thanks to its original architecture and great level of detail : Schwarzwald Castle by Ciamosław Ciamek Or this one, whose walls are only subtly textured but features unusual proportions and one tiny blue and white section (and colorful landscaping that your skeletons would not approve) : Farwin Castle by Brother Steven Or this abbey, which has the same color as the rock it's standing on, but whose surroundings feature interesting splashes of colour : Abbey of St. Delyn by Patrick Massey -
@mrcp6d Thank you very much! There were horn torches all over Skyrim, I thought they would be perfect for Mitgardia!
