[Freebuild] Embervale Advent Calendar 2021 - Heroic Fantasy
Aurore replied to Aurore's topic in Guilds of Historica
Day 1 - Alda the Dungeoneer Alrune: "Adventurers! Parasites who make a living by breaking into the residences of honest sorcerers, sticking their nose everywhere and bullying the guards until they find some shiny trinket to bring home. And don't get me started on their laughable taste in women's fashion!"- 143 replies

It's this time of the year again - the time to light the fireplace, grab a glass of mulled wine and count the days before Christmas! From tomorrow onwards, I'll update this topic with a small build or a minifig per day. This year's theme will be broadly heroic fantasy, with comments from my main GOH characters Alrune (elven mage and lady of Embervale), her uncle Dresghar and Evrart (the only human soldier among their guards, the other ones being goblins). Now let's get started!

[Minifigs] Dark Elves Royalty (Chronicles of Embervale Digression #1)
Aurore replied to Aurore's topic in Guilds of Historica
@MayItBe Thank you very much! I have to admit the Queen is my personal favourite too. @Frike At first, I was not really interested in the Marvel torsos...until I found the blue one from Shuri. @Kai NRG Thank you! I have no idea what the silver...thing on the candlestick is actually supposed to be - it's classified as a weapon on BL (part of 50018). But it's quite useful and versatile! -
[Minifigs] Dark Elves Royalty (Chronicles of Embervale Digression #1)
Aurore replied to Aurore's topic in Guilds of Historica
@zoth33 Thank you very much! Yes, Wilwë indeed has the torso from the blue Eternal (Ikaris, right?). I have not seen the film, but I really enjoy the minifig designs of those guys, very magical. -
My entry for the "Monarchic Minifigures" category of the Brickscalibur contest! I could not miss the opportunity of having fun with minifigs while fleshing out my main character Alrune's family history. The minifigs (from left to right) - Dresghar, court minstrel - Thyrulnë the Fair, his sister, sorceress - Prince Aerenion, second son of the Queen - Shellethnir, Queen of the Dark Elves - Crown Prince Aerenthir, first son of the Queen - Alrune, his daughter - Wilwë the Elder, battlemage and advisor to the Queen Their story Once upon a time, in this very land we live in, there was a Queen. Queen Shellethnir, as she was called, had been widowed at a young age – losing her King to a sudden apoplexy stroke only two years after their wedding. Shortly before her widowhood, the Queen had given birth to two sons. Twins, but as different as siblings could be. Aerenthir was born first, and first he was in everything. A bright and fair child, the pride and joy of the Queen’s court. Aerenion was born second, unexpected even by his own mother. A shy and silent child, hidden in the shadow of his brother. While their mother ruled the kingdom with an iron fist in a glove of the same metal, the two princes grew up under the thumb of a most renowned tutor, Wilwë the Elder. A battlemage, a veteran of most – if not all – the wars the kingdom had known before. And also, incidentally, my father. But that’s not what matters. What matters is that Aerenthir became a brilliant tactician and a ruthless conqueror, the perfect crown prince his mother had hoped for. And that he soon married the fairest maiden of the court: my sister Thyrulnë, proud offspring from a long lineage of sorcerers and a mighty sorceress herself. Meanwhile, Aerenion stood behind the scene, finding serenity in study and solitude. The court rejoiced when Thyrulnë gave birth to a little girl, for the child would be as bright and fair as her parents. But when the kid grew up, it became obvious that she was as shy, as silent, and as solitary as her uncle Aerenion. Murmurs and rumours spread across the court. Aerenthir chose to flee. He threw himself headlong into military campaigns, marching even on neighbouring countries he used to see as allies. Thyrulnë chose to fight. She threw herself headlong into arcane studies, morphing her bitterness into dreadful weapons against the courtiers she used to see as friends. The harm had been done, and the halcyon days were over. The crown prince never came back from war. Neither did my father. And while my sister held on, the Queen as for her sank into despair. Soon after the funerals of her favourite son and her most trusted friend, she abdicated. And disappeared. That’s how Aerenion the Unexpected was crowned King. That’s also how I ended up taking care of a little girl, my niece Alrune, and how our story began...

Only 3 series left? Oh my, that's awful... I'll do an advent calendar in the Guilds of Historica this year, but I see we're counting on the same guy for original minifigs!

Well, december is coming, so I was wondering...will you make an advent calendar this year?

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Aurore replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The 2022 Monkie Kid sets are unveiled, and as usual there are a few parts that could be interesting for medieval-fantasy builds. I especially noticed : - A new flame piece, available in a nice variety of colours in the different sets, - A new hairpiece with moon tiara (wondering how it would look on the CMF 22 Moon Warrior, btw), - A rather pretty armour. EDIT - and also a new chopsticks piece! -

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

I definitely second that. I've been using the Trolls World Tour silver mandolin in my fantasy builds for a while, and I'm so glad to be soon able to replace it with a proper, printed, wood-coloured lute. We're going to get a Madam Pomfrey minifig in an early 2022 HP set, and while she doesn't wear a hennin, I hope her headwear would be useful for your brickfilm! -

@Zilmrud Thank you so much! Angharad would indeed feel at home in Zamorah! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 22. Rumors and discussion
Aurore replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have often encountered people mistaking real-life ponies for foals as well (as in "Ooh, is that the horse's baby?" - "No ma'am, the horse is male and younger than his pony friend!"). The old foal mould as well as the new one definitely look like foals in terms of body proportions, but I guess with a little suspension of disbelief it could be seen as a pony... Not just you! I thought the same thing when I saw the leaflet. I'm especially disappointed by the forest gnome, I was expecting something less childish. But anyways, while there is no minifig I really like as a whole and a few ones I don't care about at all, there are many individual parts in this series I'm very interested in. The two new animals, of course, and the lute, and the pink satchel, and many body parts (oh my, that would sound weird out of context). I'll probably get a whole box. -
Absolutely nothing special, exactly - my "yay" was intended as sarcastic. I was still secretely hoping for a teal fish...

Looking at the photos at the end of Hellobrick's article here, I also spot an orange fish in the Ice Festival set. Yay. But the ice sculpture that is being made by the lady with the chainsaw, on the right...it's an opalescent trans-light blue penguin! Not really useful to depict an actual animal, but I like it anyway. Edit : given its proportions, I think the ice penguin uses the Friends penguin mold rather than the City one. What do you think?

CDC2 Ancient Wonders - Bridge of Gods - Kaliphlin
Aurore replied to Maxim I's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wonderful pillars! More generally, I'm impressed by the consistency of the architectural style on the bridge. The statues and the frieze look great - and unique. -

@Servertijd Thank you! Fridtjof is among my personal faves too - I love the somewhat enigmatic expression of that head... -
@Servertijd Thank you so much! I'm so glad this contest happened in the beginning of autumn, I was so eager to use the yellow foliage parts...

CDC2 Ancient Wonders: The Fighting Pit of Kaliphlin
Aurore replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
How impressive! The build is absolutely wonderful, I love the architectural details you created. The arch above the lioness, especially, is top notch, and the red banners and fire pits really add drama to the whole ensemble. Making a video is such a great idea, it sets the mood and definitely highlights the epic dimensions of the build. I enjoyed the time lapse too - and I'm impressed by how tidy your working desk is during building! PS : I'd be curious too to know how many minifigs you packed in there! -
CDC2 Ancient Wonders : The Forgotten entrance of Kaligem
Aurore replied to Servertijd's topic in Guilds of Historica
The photo itself is gorgeous, with a great composition an amazing lighting...And the build is impressive! So many details, so much texture! A true wonder it is. -
Excellent series! Very clever associations and character ideas. That abacus is really great, and I especially love the Forest Queen. Btw, may I ask what her hairpiece is? It looks gorgeous!
-
That's just a perfect series! I first looked at it while at work and...well...I had to stop at the third minifig as it was way too hard to maintain a perfect poker face. Anyways. The minifigs do look great and there are many very nice part usage. The dessert king for example...I think most (of not all) of us can relate to this typo, and it's really a perfect use of that otherwise rather odd huge cake! Same with WTF and those long legs. My favourite is the sandmaid, who looks gorgeous, and has a top-notch expression. PS: "Qu'en termes élégants, ces choses-là sont dites!" (Molière, in Le Misanthrope) PPS : so glad to see Bob back once more! PPPS : the Vanished One is art. Pure Art.

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Aurore replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
@Sympatik Brick Bienvenue! Bon, mois je construis pour Mitgardia et (pour l'instant) pas pour Avalonia, mais ça fait plaisir de croiser un nouveau français! Hrm. Back to english. Very nice army - especially the warrior queens. Walt's story seems most intriguing, looking forward to learn more about its development! @Tanuk1 Welcome to GoH! Your sigfig sports a very nice helmet and axe - may I ask where they come from? -
The parts of all the adult minifigs from the Home Alone sets could be useful for Adventurers too, especially the head with the gold tooth! I hoped some of them would show up on B&P this morning, but sadly only Kevin's torso did. I fear the others will be quite expensive on BL.
