you could attempt to 3d print the commutator plastic piece aswell.

i am afraid you dont have to. they already figured that out

...and done (atleast this step, may add a part of the rail structure later). all that is left is to align the tiles correctly. the prototype has a kind of guide rail underneath it to prevent too much swaying of the car.

A review of the first elements from the FX Track system
XG BC replied to zephyr1934's topic in LEGO Train Tech
i mean we dont know the chip under the epoxy blob. anything else is known. the epoxy chip is the actual reciever ic which is likely powered by either 3.3 or 5v via a voltage regulator. we only need to find the voltage regulator and see if it can handle the 12v instead of 9v.- 199 replies

yea true. requires a bit of thinking. idk what to build yet. -
[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]

this is amazing. -
i have collisions because it is difficult to align the tiles correctly in stud.io. wedge plates are a different idea but you have the gaps between the individual ones. it is a tradeoff either way.
-
another update: i added some railings and details. had to make some compromizes in terms of colors.

thank you!

pantograph is a little difficult to do. you would need an actual spring to press the pantograph onto the overhead wire which would make the pantograph less realistic. there is a reson why model trains went away from this solution. the info panel was a thing i thought hard about. smaller would have looked worse. i wanted to include the infos similar to the actual crocodile.
-
i decided to add a little display stand with some technical data similar to the crocodile stand. what do you think?

see: and: it uses the pickups normally used on slotcars double sided taped and secured with tesa clear tape to the bottom of the decorative sides of the motor. where my methode differs is that i didnt use copper tape to coduct the electricity away from the pickups but instead just wedged the wires inbetween the brass things sticking up.
-
i had the choice between to shallow and too steep. too steep looked even more stupid so it was just a tradeoff.
-
it somehow automatically does this. did this in the past too. sorry.

another thing i did today was to recreate 7720 in a way: recolored some of my wagons and put the e69 on the front.

now finished. all of the things added i said i had to add. looks nice and cute. here is a picture of it now: other side: and here is a video: https://flic.kr/p/2nFkgWR

that is an issue i know. will be digital only.

Hi guys, today i would like to open a topic about my submission for the brick train awards 2022. my submission is the dresden bergschwebebahn. it will most likely be only one car along with a section of the support beam. now onto something about the prototype Prototype: most of you gus probably know about the wupperthal suspended railway. this one is similar in that it travels along a single rail which is above the cab. the difference to the system in wupperthal is that this one is pulled by a cable like a funicular instead of each coach having individual electric motors. the suspended railway was built by the same principle as the one in wupperthal (system eugen-langen). it came into service in 1901. just 9 years later the original steam engine was replaced by a dc electric motor. in ww2 it wasnt damaged and between 1984-1992 it was restored with the help of mi-8 helicopters. further repairs to the support structure where made in 2001 up until 2002. in 2013 a part of the drive system was replaced. it continues to operate as a very popular tourist attraction and as a public transport to this day. the model: my model will consist of part of the support structure and one coach. the coach will be the one opposite of the one seen in the picture above but they are pretty much identical except the actual thing that rides on the rail which is mirrored. first step was to model the cab which wasnt easy due to it being angled to account for the slope on which this travels up. the side windows are snotted. this is one of the few 8-wide mocs i have ever done. 6-wide just is too small for this one. front and rear windows have a slight arc to them. next step was to make a base for the roof and attaching the upper structure more or less securely. the issue i had here was that the front windows are slightly more forward than the rest of the car on the prototype so this left an unwanted gap. i will need to eliminate said gap. next up was finishing the acutal roof of the car which was a bit difficult to align in stud.io but the result is ok id say. there are some gaps but that is just the compromize i had to make. normal slopes looked kinda wrong from an angles standpoint in that they where too steep. even the shallowest one was still too steep.

now i have started to build it irl. it uses a powerfunctions train motor with custom power pickups as the drive motor. had to change the details a little bit due to my parts collection but enough talking here it is: it is still in wip phase. needs some touchups on the pantographs mounting and on the handrails on the other side. overall i am very happy with it. custom power pickups work well and with my different controller the pf motor is basically silent (lower pitched hum that goes away at more than 50% power) not as whiny as it was with the powerfunctions receiver. it looks so cute irl. went with normal red instead of dark red because it is what i had on hand and the other colors cost an arm and a leg. looks good regardeless. will post more pics once complete! in the future i may add a dcc decoder to it and lights but for now it is analoge 9v.

Hello folks! today i discovered something: a video where one guy showed how to make any powered up/powerfunctions/rc motor a 9v motor! he used the pickups normally used in slotcars (he used carrera 124 pickups, i used the carrera digital 132 ones and they work too) and i had to try it myself. needless to say it works very well. you dont really need the copper tape neither do you need to solder, just wedging the cables in works too. i cant say anything about switches as i dont have 9v switches currently (will probably make ones with conductive tape) but i tried and it looks like it should work. the distance of the pickups is longer than the switch distance. the guy in the video also tried switches and it worked. here is the video: and here is a link to the playlist with more of the same stuff: maybe this helps anyone wishing to jump into 9v.

one question @BricksMcgee: is a suspended mountain railway like this allowed (in the digital section)? it technically is a railway just doesnt fit any of the categroys.- 35 replies
