LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I mean, in general we do tend to get OT set remakes more frequently than PT sets, but once you take out the ones that are just the literal most iconic star wars vehicles (falcon, landspeeder, x-wing, tie fighter), it's not that far off between them. Luke's x-wing is released more or less as frequently as anakin's starfighter (delta-7 or eta-2), and much like the landspeeder, we constantly get at-rts. Spider-droids are pretty frequent (lego's spider-man obsession bleeds into the star wars line? ), as is the aforementioned grievous spider. The kashyyyk at-walker i forgot the name of and the HMP gunship are released disturbingly frequently relative to their amount of screen time, possibly due to the price range they can be made at (but still, there had to be SOME better options, right?) The star destroyer and gunship haven't been released since 2014 and 2013 respectively. (in system form of course, we got UCS of both of them). The walkers are a bit different, with 6 years between AT-ATs and at minimum 8 between AT-TEs. To be clear, I think we're well overdue for a system gunship, star destroyer, and AT-TE, though if I had to guess the next one we'll get is an AT-TE next year. Given the UCS sets of the other two, we could legitimately not see system ones for years. Part of the problem, which they seem to be starting to solve, is that the larger system models are getting so expensive, and we only get around 2 $100+ system sets a year. And you've got the falcon, AT-AT, AT-TE, gunship, both star destroyers, jabba's palace and sail barge, an endor bunker, echo base, and so many other sets vying for those spots. Then add in that for the past 6 years many of those spots were used on tie ins for new films that then create more vehicles necessitating more large system sets... and we've got quite a problem. It's sort of three-pronged: star wars needs new content to stay relevant, and those new designs require new sets. You could partially pin it on disney-lucasfilm for having them make some less iconic sets at large price points for new content (galaxy's edge transport), but at the same time with all the new designs, it's nice to get more obscure ships sometimes. You could also pin it on lego themselves depending on how much freedom they have in set choice, or even for their amount of $100+ sets, but market forces can impact that to an extent; people don't have the money for too many $100+ sets, and spending the capital, new molding costs, more/larger factories, and more designers to cover more sets being produced at once would make the sets yet MORE expensive. Wow that went on a complete tangent that doesn't even really have a point. TLDR we do get some frequent prequel remakes, they're just weird choices? Makes sense. I can see this wave being different, but there weren't any microfighters or battle packs there, and I don't believe we'd only get one microfighter (razor crest), though I guess the "normal" battle packs may be the blister pack ones now. Personally I'd like that more than the standard ones if they keep the other blister pack's standard of normal weapons and 2-3 small system scale environmental/supplementary builds rather than a random speeder and stud shooters. -

Wouldn't be an MBS set in january, most likely a smaller BoBf tie-in. Seriously. When MandR has a leak, he usually makes a big deal about it. -

I see two likelihoods here: 1. it's the standard figure pack style. 3 re-used figures, a couple small builds, and one exclusive figure. 2. given that there are 2....maybe it's the battle packs? just a possibility. Of course I could be completely wrong and it's a large GNK droid with a couple jedi bobs, but I think it'll be one of the two above. -

I might be wrong but I thought they just hired someone, and they were just keeping them confidential. There are a couple differences: Usually it's a couple figs with no new prints or anything and then one exclusive figure, but the higher comparative budget could impact that. The other difference is that usually the builds are multiple small bits (I'm thinking the FFH and new batman ones specifically), as opposed to one build like battle packs usually have. 1. Yeah, most winter stuff was OT, and most summer stuff was CW/Mando. You can't just exclude half the data set... 2. Yes, the same process has been applied to OT UCS for about 20 years....? In general, a company makes a product if it knows it's going to sell well. Lego would not continue making OT UCS if they weren't selling, just like they killed off SW constraction and action battles. -

Exactly: at least so far, most UCS sales are from middle-aged men who aren't per se hardcore star wars fans, but they have disposable incomes and loved the OT growing up. It's also a good point that most of the criticism is people wanting a prequel UCS, when that won't happen for at least a year so they can judge gunship sales. They might have something partially designed in case the gunship is a knockout, but I doubt we would see anything before 2023. Agh, I swear I've been corrected on this before now that I think about it, I don't know why I keep thinking it was $250, might have been a reference book error or I might just be dumb. Anyway, inflation calculator says it'd be $230 now (so it'd be on shelves for $250 ironically). -

This is true, now that I think about it getting 1hy d2c info this early out is kind of suspicious. Plus didn't a report come out that they recently hired a leak sniper? It might be too early in their employment, but this could be the first bit of info we're getting. I'm hoping it's the somewhat reasonable "we could have had something good like slave one but instead they chose the landspeeder" (which is still not entirely correct as it's the $200 1hy spot and a UCS slave one would not have worked that well when the last one was $250 6 years ago). There's no way that the 1hy d2c spot was originally meant for a UCS slave one, the last model of which was $250, when the past what, 5 years have been $200 d2cs? One could argue that CW and mandalorian both got a solid amount of sets for shows (you especially don't have to worry about mando since it's got 10+ sets and the only leaked non-18+ set is a mando one...), whereas Endor, one of the 3 most iconic locations, hasn't had a set for what, 8 years? I agree we need more BB sets, but none of the playscale sets have leaked yet. Were you expecting a hunter helmet or UCS marauder? also...was exaggeration not allowed? what? My point is how ridiculous people are being about this that they're legitimately saying people should be fired over accidentally saying a set was from the wrong movie (and more reasonably that they said that two yellow clones were somewhat interchangable, but seriously, it's a guy's job...). And if you read the post you qouted, I stated a ton of different things I think lego did wrong. I'm "defending" them because the attacks are ridiculous- the wave is awful because the couple of leaked sets aren't prequel ones, the designers should be fired over saying something in a video, etc. STAR WARS MINIFIGURE PACK! These usually are re-uses of 2-3 figs with one exclusive fig and some small playscale builds, but lego star wars has a higher budget, so we'll see. -

Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
...it's an exaggeration? Of course no one literally called them satan, my point is all these comments that are so upset and angry at lego for...making sets that aren't pt or mandalorian. (Again, remember there were calls for the designers to be fired because one of them mispoke about the film the gunship was from, and yes there were calls for them to be fired, you can find implications in this thread and much more explicit calls on other media sites). Also, I'm not "simping", I'm just pointing out that people are being unrealistic in that they expect lego to exist for specifically them. Since this isn't the first time people have implied this, here are some choices lego made I don't like, off the top of my head: (in a spoiler for space conservation as it is a longish list.) The point is, I have my issues with lego, but I don't say that the lack of endor sets is because they don't like ROTJ. That is to say, I don't draw conclusions that the sets I personally want not being made is because lego doesn't care about the fans, or is anti-(insert film). -

..and all of the sources reporting this are also saying one got canceled... No, I personally don't want it, but I'm saying it makes sense for it to be made. Remember, the target demographic of UCS sets is adult collecters, not specifically afols. And the landspeeder is just under the x-wing, falcon, and TIE in terms of iconicity for most older adults. Yes, saying the wave is "not strong whatsoever", when we've heard 1 system set leak is pretty doom and gloom. Plus I just qouted you because it was the most recent, tons of people are lamenting that we'll never get a set based on newer content or that lego's tone deaf, etc. -

Because it, like the battle pack and likely the helmet, is an 18+ display piece to go alongside the UCS set, not part of the system wave. I love all these doom and gloom "oh no, its hoth sets" comments when the only system set to leak is a razor crest microfighter. The AT-ST is an 18+ tie-in, and while not confirmed the hoth battle pack really seems to be as well with the display stand. We haven't even had any of the system sets leak and it's already "oh god no it's sets based off the OT, lego is literally just satan" The UCS landspeeder is hilarious on one level, but on the other hand, it's a pretty damn iconic vehicle and makes sense as a UCS set, since we've never gotten a UCS one before. -

10/1 that luke's helmet is the one cancelled and it's because the visor didn't work with the coloration and level of transparency. Yeah, AT-AT driver is probably also a complementary thing. They're really making an event out of this AT-AT set, I hope it's good. -

As did I. Not off the bat, maybe, but I think we could see something a little after it. Maybe even around release. Fallen order sold really well, and I think we'll see sets for it's remake. Much like Mando and clone wars got more sets down the line. -

Nah, that won't get any sets, even if it includes the majestic, incredible based jawas It's the other one... I'm staying vague because it was such an amazing surprise to see "Oh, a new game trailer" and then for it to be THAT game, so I want other people to see it that like that too. Just search "star wars game trailer" and select the one that's not hunters. -

I don't want to get too far into this as a similar conversation got declared off-topic, but all I'll say here is that for the first few years of TCW, most sets were TCW. Then we got 5 movies, 2 animated shows (though only 2 seasons worth of sets really), and a live action series. About the big news of the day, it's AMAZING, but I don't think it'll translate into sets anytime soon. Maybe one near release. -
I'm inclined to agree, it's way too detailed even for a CMF fig, doesn't have the lego aesthetic, and has some weird extrusions on the arms and legs that A: would snap off in an instant and B: haven't ever been done in lego. If we get a new arm or leg mold, it's for a peg/robot/animal limb, not the same thing with a slight bit of detailing.

1. I'm confused, are you saying it is or isn't a problem that he misspoke? 2. Again, that's the point, they fixed it. The yellow clone thing is a more legitimate complaint (though still not one I personally thing should be the reason for buying a $350 set), but I'm mainly talking about all this more recent outrage that's lead to the comments implying they should lose their jobs. 3? 4. They definately did take the complaints as feedback, as they fixed the logo issue. And we're talking about the things stopping people from buying a $350 set being the fact that a designer accidentally misspoke, the boxart was slightly incorrect but then fixed, and one of the figures is a commander instead of a pilot... I don't think this is going to really affect sales. 5. So have you not been on reddit, instagram, or certain youtuber's comment sections? (heck, certain youtuber's video titles and thumbnails)? It's been somewhat civil here aside from a guy that was way out of line and a couple comments with some absurd implications, but not so much there. -
LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Exactly. People are getting all up in arms about things that don't even impact the set itself, and in the case of the box art, a very minor thing that is solved by waiting a couple days before buying it (or buying it now, then waiting and selling it in a couple months for a large profit.) Ok, so your saying the reasonable complaints are: 1. That a lego designer misspoke. It's not that they don't know what era it is... they constantly refer to it as from attack of the clones. ONE TIME, the guy misspoke, and they didn't reshoot because they probably didn't expect it to be some massive issue. 2. that the original box art having a slightly different logo, WHICH THEY FIXED. I would understand if they didn't change it (still not really a big deal, but I'd get the complaints at least), but they FIXED IT. Also note that neither of these impact the actual model... There's a difference between working for lego public relations and trying to stop the mobs from going after it because a guy misspoke. Yeah, I was using "recalled" as that was the term the guy I was quoting about the x-wing used. -

A fair amount of sets have been recalled before. And instruction manual errors have been common for decades, I remember bionicle was pretty hard-hit by it, and early ninjago had some too I think. Overall this conversation is starting to sound kind of entitled. I'm just going to give a few points quickly. Someone said it's not a kid's toy...yes, unless it's UCS or 18+, lego star wars is meant for kids. Clearly I don't think it's weird or dumb for adults to own it, as I own a lot of it, but you can't pretend it's meant for adults. I've also seen a comment or two that almost imply the designers should be fired and replaced with more prequel-friendly ones. First off, the only evidence that they don't like the prequels is...one of them calling the gunship OT (clearly by mistake...), and another saying that the commander and pilot are similar enough. Second of all, even if they don't like the prequels, it's not like it impacts set quality, so it's not exactly a fireable offense. -

Ah, thanks. I was going to go crazy if our scheduled snowspeeder arrived a year early. (2014, 2017, 2020) Yeah, it's another fun example of people taking what was clearly a mistake and making it a massive controversy. My guess is they don't do countless takes, so if someone misspeaks for a second they aren't gonna reshoot the whole thing. While I hope talzin shows up soon, I'm not sure how they'd do it. Talzin's episodes either don't have great and iconic set ideas (the savage oppress arc, the disappeared), or are pretty megablockin' dark (the genocide one) -

Alright fellas, is this A: indication that MKJoshA has seen leaks and another landspeeder is coming B: An attempt to keep us on-topic and away from arguing about the gunship mispeak like we did about the fact that the snowtrooper battle pack wasn't clones. (seriously, how did we do that?) C: a coded plea for help that stormtroopers have infiltrated his house and have located the physical location the eurobricks servers are running on? jokes aside I can't tell what this means, if it is a leak reference or something I don't want to pressure you though -
Any Shang-chi head suggestions?
