LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That was 2 sets. Most released near the end of the first season, like the bad batch set did. And then they got burned again with resistance, so yes, they are being very cautious. An xwing for $40 cheaper is nearly half the cost, that's a HUGE deal to a kid, the target audience as you say. $50 compared to $90 is a MASSIVE game changer for kids who, quite simply, don't have that kind of cash. It's definately a new thing to make system scale sets at nearly half the price they were previously at for vehicles of that type. And now I'm confused with some of the other options. A different clone helmet mold is new, but all the new molds over the past couple years aren't? Another dual "full scale" starfighter set after 5 years is new, but a UCS prequel set after 10 isn't? A lucrehulk is new, but a Razor Crest or Bad Batch shuttle or Nite Owl starfighter or Galaxy's Edge transport or DS1 trench run or trash compactor or TIE dagger or arquitens cruiser isn't? Point is that it's objectively true that lego star wars is trying new things, they just aren't all things that you specifically want. Plus, many of them are OT because it helps them balance the risk, since OT sets sell best. We're already starting to see non-origional trilogy versions of these new ideas with the mando helmet, and I'm sure it won't be long before a mustafar diorama or cheaper republic fighter or what have you. It's important to remember that lego sets take awhile to design, it's not like they can see that the bad batch shuttle is selling well in august 2021 and have bad batch sets on shelves by january. They spedrun more mando sets ASAP and it still took them until august 2020 for even a brickheadz and august 2021 for a mando-heavy wave, and mando was much, MUCH more popular than bad batch. -

Ok, good to know. "action battles aren't new they're just simpler sets with little cannons" "constraction isn't new it's just bionicles with star wars skins" "microfighters aren't new they're just smaller ships" going back to 2001: "UCS isn't new it's just bigger ships" Suffice it to say, yes, those are all new things that they're trying. Furthermore, they have made sets for clone wars S7, a good number for a show too. Visions didn't get sets because it's an experimental anime anthology series, it didn't get much merch at all. Bad batch got a set to see how well it would sell, and lego can't turn around new sets just a wave later, so yeah it'll be 2hy before they get many more sets IF the shuttle sold well. They've made a ton of new stuff recently, like helmets, more affordable fighters, dioramas, etc. -

Yeah, this is what I'm leaning towards as a possibility. You're thinking of the gauntlet transport, the mandalorians also have starfighters that look almost identical except for cockpits that look more like this as opposed to the gauntlet. I'm disappointed it's a microscale trench run instead of a trash compacter, and also somewhat confused. Didn't we have figure lists and a printed qoute, from reliable sources too? How did that get mixed up? -

Oh yeah I didn't meant to imply that DC wasn't getting completely shafted... when was the last time you guys got a superman figure? 2018? For the second most iconic DC character? Dude TBOBF set could have a frickin There are no limits as to how awesome it could be....but we should probably temper our expectations. I meant in terms of changing and taking risks, hence why I talked about the books as an outlier. They aren't bad sets, they're an example of a different set style or risk being taken. My personal thoughts on the wave thus far: Accessory packs: We don't know much but I like the change to the blister packs, as they usually have figure-scaled builds meant as little additions like barricades and stuff. Snowtrooper battle pack: YES. A UCS tie-in battle pack with normal blasters and a display stand made for one of the coolest (pun intended) armies in the galaxy is great. Probably buying at least one. Razor crest micro: Great for a cheap way to get mando, though since I have one I won't buy it. Hoth AT-ST: I have the 2016 one, otherwise I would get this regardless of the figures. I do hope it has snowy chewie though, that'd be a nice bonus for people who are gonna get it. Dagobah: YES. This sounds incredible, and will look great next to my bespin duel and UCS slave one. I'm thinking of doing a whole ESB display now, have to check bricklink for some other sets to get for it. Trash compacter. This sounds great, and is the first set to be focused on the trash compactor, a very iconic scene (not counting the death star as that was 1/16th or so of the set). I personally won't get it unless I see a sale, but I'm happy for people just getting into SW as they can now get the main four and an iconic scene in a single set. TBOBF: I'm glad we're getting one, though I'll have to see it before buying it. Landspeeder: It had to happen eventually, I only have one UCS set, and this one isn't going to change that. -

Your wider point might be right, I don't have the energy to go check, but off the top of my head all three of those figures have been recently released in some form. Mace Windu in 2019 and the more recent 2021 UCS, padme in 2019 (though she does have very few figures), and various landos in the past few years (a couple falcons, bespin, debatably the 20th snowspeeder, etc). Ironic considering how nice those "the batman" sets look. Not to get off topic, but I own 0 DC sets and those have me tempted... They're playing it safe because star wars is one of the best-selling themes, so they don't want another action battles situation. Even then there've been tons of new concepts that they use OT to start out. Quickly recapping: Helmets: These seem to be doing alright, seeing as we're approaching year three of them. Our first non-classic OT set coming too with the mandalorian, I wouldn't doubt a clone helmet in 2023. Cheaper starfighters: the TIE and X-wing both have done amazingly well at least from what I've seen at stores, but it's too soon to see the impact. Diorama style sets: Bespin duel did incredibly well but that was partially due to the limited stock. I don't know how well the meditation chamber did, but these new ones, especially the dagobah one, seem like surefire hits, and I could easily see a set for the discovery of the child, or anakin vs obi wan soon. UCS prequels: The gunship, based off what I've seen, ended up selling about as well as the average UCS set if not better, so I don't doubt we'll see a venator or ARC by 2024. With other themes, they definately do "play it safe" in some ways. DC being almost exclusively batman, marvel's spiderman focus and the constant planes and tanks, etc. City and Harry potter are fairly standard throughout, though they do try minor things like the stunt bikes and book sets. The main area of experimentation is new themes, which is because lego is under the (erroneous) belief that the survival of their brand in the future will be based off technological integration. Hidden side failed, vidyo failed, mario seems to be scraping by based off the popularity of the IP. -

I've been suggesting an Endor Celebration set with the pyre, Luke, and the ghosts since bespin duel came out. Personally I think they need to be mostly transparent, but we know for sure that at the very least arms, legs, and heads can be made transparent, right? Yeah, this set is a massive update. I forgot about that. I feel that's not quite as bad as if they did the 2021 x-wing but just with some swamp parts on it, since like you said the color scheme is different, but yeah, that was still a weird choice. -

Remember two seconds ago when everyone was saying the only reason the set could be as expensive as it is is if it's got the x-wing and that this was horrible and bad, and now there's no x-wing and that's horrible and bad? Personally I'm very happy there's no x-wing, two similarly sized x-wings within a year would be a new record for lego I believe, and really not necessary. Yeah, the movies are over so now they're throwing a ton of stuff at the wall to see what sticks. The Dioramas, smaller ships, and UCS gunship have been their main attempts (adult "playsets", more affordable starfighters, and prequel UCS respectively), and personally I hope they all do well. Either of the latter two succeeding makes another ARC-170 more likely, and bespin duel is quite possibly my favorite SW set (either that or UCS slave one, and as I glance over at my collection I'm noticing they're right next to eachother) To be fair, the trash compacter has only ever been a set as part of a $400-500 death star, you can't really pretend that it's even remotely similar. Also it's ironic that the $60 set is more of an 18+ display piece than the $500 set. -

I'm very excited about the diaramas, I'm definately getting the dagobah one and maybe the trash compactor too. I'm so glad we're finally getting nice location sets with high detailing and good prices, it's like more bespin duels! -

I do this with wings, legs, engines, anything doubled or mirrored. Usually great, though I remember I looked for a missing panel on the U-wing for ages before realizing it was a slightly different pattern on the other wing. -

I doubt cody is in the republic fighter tank. If they're putting him in a set, it'll either be an expensive one to increase sales. Even if it's a cheaper one, I think it'd be one where he canonically makes sense, like a wheel bike chase right after grievous's starfighter retires or something. I hope so. Does stonewars have the prelim catalog? -

Buildible iron man is interesting. As a system set it could be a nice display piece.... and if it's constraction, now that'd be REALLY interesting, as almost all bionicle and ccbs parts have had their molds retired. -

That's pretty much it, there's going to be a set bundle for star wars. The "Skywalker Adventures" set or whatever will most likely just be three sets thrown into a larger box that just says "3 in 1". The only exclusive thing is the outer packaging. Costco normally has a good amount. (By the way: AMAZING place to get sets. Aside from these, they've always got sales, and sometimes you can find some long retired sets. I've found 3 year old sets marked at 3/4 the price. They even used to have bulk bionicle lots with exclusive parts.) -

It's literally just sets packaged together for the same price as the three sold separately. Sometimes they can be rare on the aftermarket for the packaging, but in terms of the sets themselves, it's the exact same value. -

Oh holy lord gonk upon me, that'd be a hell of a build. If you don't mind, could you send me your prototypes? I'd make sure to credit you if I used anything from it, and of course I wouldn't sell instructions or anything. Preliminary list for sets, with some options thrown in: Microfighters: Slave one ($10, CERTAIN): Slave one with boba fett (mandalorian s2) TIE fighter ($10, possible): TIE pilot OR Havoc Marauder ($10) with Tech Dual pack ($20, likely): AT-ST (certain) vs snowspeeder OR ewok glider with an AT-ST pilot and Wes Janson OR Paploo Battle Packs: Battle droids ($15, certain): 4x b1 battle droid, 2x b2 battle droid. Build is a largish crab droid OR two droidikas and a STAP Imperial troops ($15, possible): 2x dark troopers and 2x stormtroopers with a dark trooper pod and console OR Alliance strike team ($15) with 3x endor commandos and an ewok with an ewok catapult Duel: Reactor Duel ($20, certain): kanan, ezra, and the grand inquisitor with a build of the catwalk and console. Kamino lab ($30, certain) with Hunter, Omega, and an elite trooper. Build includes AZ-3 and a lab with the batch's pods and the sliding computer thing that omega uses. OR v-wing Resistance A-wing ($30, likely) with Tallie Lintra, 1x first order stormtrooper, bb-8, and Kylo ren. OR ski speeder ($30) with poe dameron, finn, and 2x fo snowtrooper. Boga V wheel bike ($40, possible) with boga, wheel bike, kenobi, cody, grievous, and 2 magnaguards OR airspeeder chase ($50) with wessel, jango, kenobi, and anakin. B-wing ($70, possible) with a b-wing pilot, ten numb, madine, admiral ackbar and a stormtrooper OR Umbaran starfighter ($60) with 2x umbarans, fives, jesse, hardcase, and 2 b1s. yavin four base ($90, likely) with exterior fortress and interior microhanger, throne room, and conference room/armory, as well as a microscale y-wing. Comes with celebration leia, luke, han, mon mothma, 2x rebel troopers, 1x rebel pilot, r2-d2, and a rebel technician. Comes with farmboy luke, rey, and bb-8. Definately a WIP for the list, so feel FREE to suggest any replacements, even for the ones I marked "certain". For the ones I gave two options or two figure loadouts, I'd love it if you could tell me which option you prefer. I'm already working on some of the smaller "certain" sets, and I'll have the final list posted tomorrow night. -
Holy Gadunka, this is incredible! An absolutely massive build, and the level of detail boggles the mind. All the little greebles really sell this moc's excellence, the back especially looks like it could be a movie prop at first glance.

Good list! Some things I'll comment on here: Slave One microfighter: 100% doing this, probably boba's mando version so it can go against the TIE TIE Fighter: holy gonk we've never had one... definately doing this too. Boga V wheel bike: Probably doing this as a full set Kamino lab. I didn't really want to do this at first but the people are demanding it...and the more I think about it the cooler I think it could be. B-wing: Yeah everyone's demanding this...we'll see. I'm not confident I can do a good one, but I'll give it a shot. A Yavin build is a cool idea too. -

The beckett bust made me laugh, I'm not good at making organic-looking things so I'm not going to do justice to it, but now I want one that's half beckett, half haymitch, with carnage tendrils creeping up on it. 100% confirmed: I'm doing the rebels duel. For the rest, it'll depend on what other people submit, but these are all great choices. The only ones that I probably won't do are the krayt dragon (unless you have an idea on how to do it, as I'm not sure how to do a cave and a mostly subterranean creature), and the cargo shuttle (To big to do justice to). The AT-TE is a great choice and I might do it, but it'd be the near-1000pcs big boy of the wave, I couldn't do a good one at 700ish pcs. I like your list, these are the ones I'm confident I'll do (totally agree about slave one, the ewok glider vs at-st lets me re-use my one completed set from the hoth wave, coruscant chase is a great idea, and I think I can get it in around 500 pieces, and the AT-TE is a popular choice for the big set) I'll post the final list either sunday or sometime next week depending on how many more responses there are, and begin MOC work that same day. -

If there's a $100 boba's palace in 2022, there won't be a jabbas palace. On the bright side, it just makes the endor bunker more likely. BUNKER HYPE TRAIN 2022!!!!!!! Yeah I even have some guy (Cole?) in a white outfit with a dual molded hair of black hair and a brown headband (I think I found the fig in a parking lot or something), who's hair would be...not perfect, but better than the aragorn hair they're using. Alright so here's a new thing: I was going to do a hoth wave, but I got really busy and never finished anything more than an AT-ST microfighter, and since Lego's going to make the set I wanted to make most (Hoth AT-ST), I think I'm gonna call time of death on that moc wave. So to replace it, I wanted to do a sort of reverse wishlist, where you guys make lists and then I'll make a moc wave for composite of them. I'll put any wishlisted sets past this that you want made into the list, but here's the format I want to do: 2 microfighters 1 dual pack 2 battle packs: 1 duel set: 6 system sets ranging from ~200 to ~1000 pieces (obviously you're not going to know the exact piece count of the set you want made, but basically don't tell me to make the death star) 1 18+ display set ranging from ~300-~600 pcs. So if you want to see me try and make your set ideas just qoute me and type your list, and then if you see a set someone else wants just copy it or say so or something. -

I think it's more of a silent majority situation where most people are pretty happy with it but the people who dislike it are more vocal about it. Really? I get some, but Ahsoka especially...it's not all that 'important' that we get a costume a character had in a single episode. Cobb a bit moreso because we haven't had him at all before, but still, he was in one episode. I really want a cobb figure, but he's not exactly as important as kuill or the client in terms of how integral they are.
