    The response isn't overwhelmingly negative. It's mixed. It seems to be about 60% positive, as far as I can tell. But, people are more likely to post and complain about something if they dislike it than if they like it. It's ridiculous to compare this to Paupadros's MOCs. Pau is not only arguably the best Modular builder on the planet, but they also have access to every element ever made on Bricklink, while the official Lego designers have to use parts that Lego has decided to produce for 2019. Pau also does not have to operate at a profit.

    Most of the critics seem to be European. As an American, I really like it because I can point to individual buildings in the city I live in that look like it. The dark orange/sand blue color scheme is beautiful and the printed tiles are good. It has vertical presence, something that I felt BB completely lacked. The tow truck is a fantastic vehicle. The garage is somewhat austere but I have seen garages in America that were that clean. What's not so hot- the stairs need a wall separating them from the garage (this can be added). The doors are not sand blue (and we can't make them that way). The bathroom has no bathtub/shower. The bathroom door has windows (this can be fixed easily). This is fantastic and the best modular since 2010, IMO. Assembly Square is the only other set in recent history that I like nearly as much, but I would give the edge to this one slightly since it's less insular.

    A lot of these terrible MOCs with supporters are just parents supporting their kids' ideas.

    The line isn't cancelled, we just had a Lego Ambassador say that it was going to be revealed on Dec. 3. Relax, everyone. With respect to vehicles- I think they can add a lot to a set. It is the synthesis of fixed and moving elements that creates an aesthetically pleasing display. The cars create action points to display the minifigures around. I'm guessing many dislike the DD car because it's pink, despite Elvis (who was homages in the set) actually owning a pink Cadillac sedan. The pink Cadillac is also a symbol of American car culture, which reached its apex in the 1950s, for which DD represents. To the youth of the 1950s, the car is both a literal vehicle, but also a metaphorical one for freedom, adventure, and romance, and both Aretha Franklin and Bruce Springsteen wrote songs about these themes and used pink Cadillacs as a metaphor. Modular has never been terribly consistent in its setting with respect to time or place, and it probably won't be here.

    While I don't think the 2019 modular is a hotel, I have to wonder if Cafe Corner is a hotel. Mike said that the line didn't have a hotel, but that could just be a result of CC coming out before he was working at Lego. It's a bit small to be a hotel. The signage makes no sense if it isn't, however. At any rate, the foundation of Lego is visuospatial creativity and expecting some kind of canonical storyline for Modular is against this. I think there's a very large tendency for Modular fans* to be uncreative and hesitant to expand upon the structures, treating them almost like they were a line of collectible plastic statuettes like Funko Pops. The reason why we pay a large premium for Lego vs. other toys is that it's not immutable and we can build and expand on our system in a reusable, effortless manner. Cafe Corner can be a hotel if you want it to be Build some hotel rooms in it and a front desk. Build some more floors. Make it 64x32 instead of 32x32. (*Of course, that doesn't apply to the amazing MOCers we have here on Eurobricks.)

    Well, it's a lot better than all those mediocre ones that get up voted on r/Lego that only have 8 official modular buildings and no MOCs, I like your houses The old style trees on the grey baseplate could be expanded upon a bit- this look is fine for Classic Town but sparse for Modular.

    A garage is a great idea, to be honest. The 1920s-1950s era is synonymous with car culture and it's easy to see how it could complement the Diner's Streamline Moderne aesthetic. This is a much better choice than a police station.

    I think much of the weakness in DO and BB relative to the first wave of modulars (2007-2010) came from the smaller size of the structures. Lego was desperately clinging to the $160-170 price point in the middle of the decade and the central structures were shorter than in previous sets. Then, we went to a much bigger price point in 2017 for Assembly Square and it looks magnificent, just as good as the original five structures. Thankfully, this flaw is easily rectified by just building more floors. If they were perfect, they'd be boring, because then there would be nothing to build. The fun of Lego Modular Houses is building on them and expanding them into a unique, coherent layout. Either way, I hope Lego takes their time and releases it at the right point in 2019 to optimize sales. I won't be able to buy it in January because my Lego budget is going to MOCs then.

    Leaks are bad for business and only mildly useful for fans. What do you really do with the leaked info? How does it change your purchasing habits?

    It wouldn't fit into Cafe Corner. The interior is 24 studs wide + 2 studs for walls that Xon has omitted. I guess you can put the kitchen part there, which is probably the primary draw. It's not a bad idea, really. Anyway, you'll have more fun if you just try to copy it brick for brick and improvise for the bricks you can't quite see. Really, the thrill of Lego is being creative to get this stuff to work in LDD, not staring at the finished model.

    I'm guessing it will be a light or dark bley hotel in the Streamline Modern style. Mike Psiaki said in the DD video that he wanted to build a hotel. Also, we knew they don't retire in order, they retire in terms of popularity. Town Hall retired before Pet Shop.

    Brickset has confirmed it: Detective's Office and Brick Bank are done. Parisian is still being sold as of this time.

    Excellent work. B-models were one of my favorite parts of 80s-90s Lego and you have proudly carried on the tradition.

    They are both part of the same series and designed to look great with the other Modular Buildings. Personally, I like Pet Shop better because of the silhouette

    Very helpful, thanks! -I agree that the aqua color is more accurate than medium blue, but the medium blue looks better imo. The aqua reminds me of my middle school locker room. Nevertheless, I'm going to use it... -Those tiles near the roof will not be implemented anywhere in the structure due to space constraints.

    Most of the Ninjago City designs I see are multipurpose structures. To MOC this, you sort of have to build a framework and let the structures fill the remaining space.

    OK, I'm ready to get back to business on this since I was busy with IRL stuff. I want to have the building fully built in brick by the release of The Lego Movie 2 in theaters. Can we get some better shots of the bathroom from either of you? How do you make the sink?

    I buy 'em on sale and I keep them in stock until I'm ready to build them. I kept one set unopened for 8 years this way.

    In the German 1990 advertisement, they appear to be cutting the baseplates. Look at the number of studs between 6386 (which probably wasn't even in stock at the time of the advertisement) and the plate that cars 3 and 1 are on.

    It looks like there's some greebling on the roof of Xon67's Fresh Fruit Market that would be pretty easy to add. Central air unit?

    Great job with the Fresh Fruit Market, it's a really surreal, dreamlike building, halfway between a supermarket and a cereal box. It's kind of interesting that Finn's father would build such a thing: it looks like something that came out of the mind of a child. Still working on my version of the apartment, have been very busy lately.
