LEGO Ninjago 2021
CopperTablet replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
There will never be an official rerelease, but King has a bastardized ripoff version of 70620 in stock. The reviews are pretty good. I would never advocate for buying a set that steals Lego's IP, but Lego doesn't make 70620 any more, so they're not losing any sales. I don't think it's intended to be on the left side of 70620, because there's a theater advertised in the Ninjago script in 70620 and an arrow pointing to the left. The Gardens are either intended to be adjacent to 70657 or opposite of 70620 to start a new block. -
How common are missing pieces?
CopperTablet replied to Joseph Barker's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For Lego, extremely rare, fewer than 1/10000 bricks. For other companies, it can be pretty common. -

ATLA is a good choice of IP, but I actually think the submitted set is pretty subpar. It doesn't have enough visual interest, the play value is low, it's hard to incorporate into a broader display, and the base inflates the piece count. Novel, licensed minifigures are a critical draw to Ideas. But, the set should be neat and aesthetically appealing on its own without the minifigures. -
westracing01's Race Track for Modular Buildings

Nice design, it evokes some of the fun of classic Town with more sophisticated structures. Will you consider any banked curves? -

Anyway, here's my predictions: 737- could get made, is a unique build, Lego airplanes are often criticized for being Playmobil-esque and this is an alternative Colosseum- rejected, we already have a Colosseum Gravity Falls - I'm not familiar with this IP, but the build needs work in terms of color selection. If the IP is a good fit for Lego (not too adult), it could get made Police Station- rejected, we already have a Police Station Bag End- rejected, Lego already made a set of this (and it was great), the book is a waste of parts Red Dwarf Starbug- could get made, the show has a devoted fanbase, build needs work and likely a Medieval Blacksmith-style complete makeover Airbender- the IP is definitely a good fit, but I don't really like the model concept. Needs revision for a future round Classic Castle- is too generic as-is but Barracuda Bay was a good idea so this could also get approved with a little more stylization Open MRI- Lego will say NOE to this Motorized Lighthouse- Lego has rejected better lighthouses in the past. James Cameron's Avatar- the film is really special and Lego could be the right medium for it. Not sure if minifigs capture the height and litheness of the aliens well. Spirited Away- good choice of IP, is popular enough, set may be too big and bulky. Jumanji- another good IP but this model sucks The Little Venice- see you on Rebrickable Auto Union- maybe, but it might work better as one or more minifig scale cars Automated Garbage- this is a City set, not an Ideas set TX Master Games- wut Milwaukee- might be a better fit for Architecture but it's a good design and a building worthy of a set. Car Wash- also see you on Rebrickable Wallace & Gromit- very strong concept and build, would not be surprised if this was approved Among Us- this doesn't actually look like The Skeld and the game's popularity has already fallen off Roman Warship- Lego could make something Roman but I don't know if a ship is the right choice Addams Family- we already have a Haunted House and this one is worse, but maybe the IP works for a different set GMC- good MOC but not nearly enough appeal Viking Village- great concept, neat build, but the Danes at Lego may be pissed at the incorrect portrayal of their ancestors with horned helmets. I think it has a good chance of getting approved. -

Lego is under pressure to approve something because clone brands have been licensing and producing rejected Ideas sets with the consent of their creators. It's not about finances, it's about not letting the other guys get a foothold and establish a consumer base to expand outwards. -
I like the scale of the model, it's impressive. One thing I would note is that the grass is all one color- you could add some dark green or olive green to make it look more organic. The shading effect on the water can also be accomplished with trans-light blue tiles.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
CopperTablet replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
There is no guarantee the Diner will increase in price, but a lot of Lego sets and more specifically, Modular buildings, do. -
LEGO IDEAS - The Medieval Blacksmith
CopperTablet replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The final design looks good. The original submission was too enormous to be incorporated into a lot of existing Castle stuff and the roof was unnecessarily complex. -

I disagree. That's like saying 10278 Police Station is too similar to 10246 Detective's Office. They're both Modular Buildings related to law enforcement, but the similarities end there, the fans of the theme would like both, and they both complement each other in a display. -
Ninjago City Expansion wishlist
CopperTablet replied to Dr.Cogg's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I feel you on the space limitations, which is the true foe of all AFOLs. I guess what I mean to say is that the Docks is long, low, and flat, whereas 70620 and 71741 are both vertically layered slices of architecture, which is both aesthetically pleasing and distinct from every other Lego product (and uniquely designed clone product). A horizontal section without corners that keeps the same vertical layering could work. I just hope we get a 4th set in the series, which is the furthest thing in the world from a guarantee. -
Ninjago City Expansion wishlist
CopperTablet replied to Dr.Cogg's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I don't think there will be more horizontal sections. 70657 does not work very well on its own as a model, only as an expansion. The vertically layered character of the city is what gives it its appeal, IMO. Since 70620 has text references to a theater that is yet to exist on the stickers , I feel like an expansion with a theater, amongst other things, would be a natural add-on to the left side of 70620. -
LEGO Ninjago 2021
CopperTablet replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Having seen the Gardens on Brickset, I can say it looks incredible and a worthy follow-up to 70620. One major problem 70657 has compared to most D2Cs is that it doesn't really look good on its own as a Lego set: you need to have 70620 to make it work. 71741 has the original vibrancy of 70620 rather than the more subdued color scheme of 70657. It also solves a second problem of 70657: it has a clear front side for display, whereas 70657 was kind of unclear as to which way it was supposed to be displayed. The verticality of the dark turquoise tower gives the Gardens tremendous presence. Best set of 2021, likely the best set of the decade thus far -
Chinese New Year Sets - Rumors and Discussion
CopperTablet replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It is indeed Modular-compatible, but the red and blue structure looks odd when it's so close to another building and a corner building. Someone mentioned that it looks best next to 10243 because of the walkway on the right side of that building, and this seems like it may be true. -

I'm hoping that we get the Ideas Caribbean Clipper, either as an Ideas set, or a Bricklink Designer Program set, or.... -

Thanks for this info and your insights. The nature of the evolving 3rd party scene, as to who is working where, can be confusing to the English-speaking Lego community. -
Airship Station Modular Building - Now on Lego Ideas
CopperTablet replied to seejay's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for posting this. The concept of an airship platform is a good addition to Lego Ideas and I think it could get approved. Lego allows us to create worlds that no longer exist, or may not be possible to exist, and this concept explores that further. However, I think the actual brick-to-brick design could be iterated on for aesthetics. Could the facade be more ornate? Such iteration would likely occur after approval by Lego. -

Fantastic job. I might have to get the Rebrickable file for this one.

Every time you buy something counterfeit, you always end up disappointed, even though the item looks great on the website. But, the really annoying thing is when you get sent a clone brand brick in your orders on Bricklink. -
Personally, I'm of the impression they will all be trending towards the $199 price point for the next few years, due to the decreased purchasing power of the US dollar and a desire to keep the buildings the same size.

LEGO Ninjago 2021
CopperTablet replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The sidewalk will obviously connect to either the Ninjago City Docks or the Ninjago City set. They're pseudo-Modular in that they have connecting pins for a reason. -
The Modular line was fine in the days of Green Grocer when there wasn't the overtly silly element, although I wasn't aware of the internal ban at TLG on cookies.

The plane is very reminiscent of Classic Town, although the skis may make it harder to display than conventional landing gear. Hopefully, the plane does not collide with the bird after it hits V1 on takeoff.
