Easier would probably be to do away with the current sliding lever and add separate levers for each of the three functions.

@m00se Interesting. You could use a wheel hub instead but you can't pass an axle through those. -
The metal hook isn't that small. It's mostly thinner than the brick-built one in the model (only 1 stud thick). If you include the pulley wheel the metal hook is actually slightly taller. Looking at photo reference on GIS and in the other topic mostly turns up hooks more similar to the metal hook than to the thick, wide brick-built one in the model. And double hooks actually seem to be rare on this type of crane - most have simple hooks, like this:

The BWE has one roller running below the yellow gear ring on the 'back' side, which is 3 studs high normally. I don't think you're leaving that much space, and I don't think you can safely leave it out entirely. Though I myself did mod it into a 1-high roller when I motorized mine.

Another possible reason for spares is inaccuracy of the dispensing system. If a set has 17 beams of length 15, it is easy to imagine these are counted out. If it has 100 black pins though, they may very well dispense them by weight instead - and target a bit over because of inaccuracy. Though that would not explain having a spare for a 1x1 round tile with a print on it which only has 4 copies in the BOM. So the cost of dealing with customer complaints is likely also a factor. Or there's additional considerations.

[MOC] - 42055 MK 288 BWE

I motorized the 'normal' BWE driving the two belts separately as well. I consider it realistic on that model - it allows for stopping and starting the lower belt when a truck is full and a new truck arrives, while the excavation continues. Exact lockstep isn't too important - actually the base model has the lower belt running slower than the upper one. -
I hadn't thought of that. You're probably right.

For the superstructure rotation, I've noticed in the reviews it is driven on the inner turntable. The BWE had superstructure rotation driven on the outer gear ring, which is not easily possible in this model due to the roller bearing structure. I believe some have described the superstructure rotation as jerky. Would the place it's driven from contribute to this?

I'm quite sure I'll get one and modify it. Probably add a bunch of motors, which will mean taking apart my BWE which currently holds most of them.

BWE has 669, porsche has 856. Bugatti might have more though?

General Part Discussion
pleegwat replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've always gotten the impression that even a single half-bush gives more friction than a single full-bush. May also depend on the specific part though; a number of my older full-bushes are damaged, and I own at least 3 different variants of the half bush and they do not all have the same friction.- 5,507 replies

Wave Swing
pleegwat replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think much simpler would be using two turntables instead of one, and use only a single tilt mechanism inbetween them. Then the bottom (slower) turntable would control the direction of tilt, the tilt mechanism itself would control the amount of tilt, and the top (faster) turntable would spin the chairs. 'Horizontal' would be one of the end points of the tilt mechanism. -
That was to be expected, for the boom extension. I noticed it in earlier images already, but boom extension is via a gear rack and the only way to get a gear rack long enough is with the 4l gear racks that are mounted on a studded surface. Studded beams are the most obvious way to get a surface to mount them on, and could be seen in images as well.

I don't know your design, but maybe you can have some trip on the bottom or sides of the cart which unlocks the restraints, and keep them closed (with a spring or similar) if the entry/exit points are not docked?

With few exceptions like the BWE, almost everything in technic is larger than minifig scale.

I think it's a minifig for scale of the model. I don't think the model is minifig scale.

Grum's Shed
pleegwat replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have 2 versions of the 9V motor set instructions, but though they have the same cover they are different. One includes the 'gearing down' assembly instructions and came with the motor set. The other just includes safety information printed larger, and came with 8868. -
As a kid I didn't have an extensive sorting system in place, and thus I know that if they're all in the same bucket 2L/3L/4L in the same color are very tricky to pick apart, and so are 10L/12L. 11L didn't even exist at the time. Still, as an adult I'd say black and LBG, but use LBG for 10L and drop 9L/11L completely.

Opinions on LEGO Technic Theme
pleegwat replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've got 5L in yellow grey and black, and 9L and 11L in grey and yellow. I know I've gotten new 10Ls in black after they started using red for it and I think that goes for 6L too. I think they're usually consistent in a set though, and once you start mixing sets you've probably got them sorted on length anyway. -
