Given how far this set is in production, and the economic impacts of cancelling already discussed, I expect it'll silently show up again in a month or two when everyone's forgot about it. Probably unmodified.

I assume on a real truck the drum is connected to the engine. Certainly, it keeps turning when the truck is stopped for a traffic light. -

I could see them trimming the 24t gear such that it needs less room diagonally.- 5,507 replies

My first thought to this is using wires. But of course those can't go through the rotating section. Could still be useful to transfer force over a few studs inside the props. Setting up a pneumatic cylinder so the rear is fixed but the front rotates with the props seems unwise from a friction/wear perspective.

If you're just getting into motorized technic, I'd recommend against PF since for better or worse, it's already been retired. You may be able to get a few sets at reasonable price now, but it's going to get more expensive over time to expand your collection of PF parts. And the new PU/C+ stuff isn't compatible with PF.

A possibility for 3 axles would be to have 1 servo control the front wheels, a second servo control the rear wheels, and the central axle controlled by a differential which connects both. That could then scale to 5 axles by averaging the front/rear and central axle for the 2nd and 4th axle. I'm not sure how you'd scale that for 4 axles - maybe use the 5 axle setup I sketched then omit the middle axle? -
I think the larger problem is that they have to be able to carry the model's weight, including load. The longitudinal bogies can (should) sit next to the chassis so they are basically irrelevant, but the perpendicular ones need to sit below the chassis. Having any kind of strength in the chassis takes 3u of height. Even if a 1u height on the perpendicular bogie is sufficient, that's a lot of chassis height.

Yeah, this should make shifting the interface way easier than with the PF hub, which needed a sliding motion. Or, for that matter, the C+ hub which needs the button reachable.

And I think things like excavator buckets are rarely reused either. -
I'm not sure what's going on with the props, but I don't think it's collective. I think the functions on the back of the box are just rear hatch, landing gear, tilting the rotors, and spinning them.

Technic 2020 Set Discussion

As some of you may already have seen, TLG updated the layout on the building instructions page. And the 'Sets with digital instructions' only filter checkbox is gone. In my opinion, this is a bad sign for digital-only B models. -
The gearbox works fine for me, though testing was tricky because of a lack of axle length to turn manually with. I did swap the 20z for a proper fit from the collection. By axle distance, the band can just be swapped with 2x16z.That won't fit on the side the elastic band is on in stock, because of the stepper, but there's plenty of space on the other side.

I'm not so sure of this assertion. I don't think the so-called new mould is all that new, and I've got plenty from that mould which work fine. Rather, I suspect the mould is worn out, and that's causing the part to be a bit too large. The reason for this is that I've also been having problems with the part LEGO numbers 6261375, the 90° rotated pinhole and axle hole. Both the ones from 42111 and those from 42107 have been giving me trouble to push axles through the axle end.

I'm pretty sure I've seen samples of a 'one-way' connection, where the output axle turns in the same way regardless of which way the input axle turns. I'm not saying that's in the stock model, but it could be modded in. Also, is it me or is the drum rather short compared to the length of the truck? It actually looks like there's enough space for an 'official' motorization of the drum using a separate motor set. -
Odds are the stock model uses studless beams only in the wing - studded beams would give a stronger structure which then may enable removing the extra support.
