  1. Whoops. Looks like there's a similar thread already about this. Mods feel free to delete. Sorry about that.
  2. That's interesting. In Pennsylvania, I couldn't get away from Series 16. They were everywhere and plentiful. I guess it depends on the area and overall demand but for me this was one of the easiest series to obtain so far and I started with Series 2. Disney was the second easiest to obtain for me.
  3. I stopped by a couple Walmart's today (Pennsylvania, USA) and was surprised by the current pricing on most Lego sets. Everything was marked down, more than $10 on many of them. I picked up the Hulk Vs. Hulk set 76078 for $48. I've seen some sales here and there in the past but not everything marked down before. Anyone else seeing this in other areas of the US?
  4. So if we're talking anniversaries there's the 60th anniversary of the brick, a Minifigures anniversary, some space stuff in there too. There's also the 2018 Winter Olympics... who knows. I give up guessing for now.
  5. Agreed. You cant even get a case on eBay without paying at least $800 or more. It's insane! That was definitely a bad move. Not that Lego meant it to go that way but that's what happens when the collectors are let loose.
  6. Perhaps a "greatest hits" series? I could see it but I don't think I'd actually like that. I've put a lot of time and money into collecting. Then again, Lego never really goes backwards so it may not even be a possibility. I remember years ago they did a small re-release of around 5 figures and made it available to VIP's only. It was really weak so I didn't bother with it. Besides, who would select the greatest hits figures, Lego or the fans? I'd just prefer something completely new even if it is themed. Series 14 is one of my favorite series to date so I'm open to whatever.
  7. That is really nice. Kinda wish it was an official Lego set... Well done!
  8. I'm sure someone would have the info on the figure by now. I think it will stay a mystery figure for the release. They probably feel it's time to change things up a little which is fine with me. It would make the "hunt" more interesting. Maybe it's an animal suit figure and not a highwayman.
  9. I wonder if they might release the set with the ? figure as it is now. Maybe they"ll have a few variations of it? It would certainly change things up.
  10. The Disney series was probably their most popular series thus far. They actually re-released the entire series due to the overwhelming demand. Not to mention they couldn't keep the Disney Castle in stock for the first 4 to 6 months. I'm almost certain we will see Disney 2 in 2018. I couldn't agree more. Four series per year would be overkill and exhausting. It's good to have the breaks in between.
  11. As much as I wanted to see some other Ideas make it I knew this would be the one. Minifigures/Education is a huge thing for Lego and it's been a while since they've released an Ideas set under $50. With a lower price point they can sell many more (I'll probably buy two) and it's a great PR move on their part for honoring women of NASA. That alone will get a lot of free press. Not a big win for Lego fans but a huge win for Lego. Still, I would have loved a Spaceballs set but it wasn't meant to be.
  12. I could be completely off on this but here goes... The Space Center in Houston has a new Apollo 11 exhibit opening in October 2017 (Destination Moon) which also coincides with the Space Centers 25th anniversary (2017). Lego likes to do events... you never know.
  13. Lol! Good luck! That was about 4 series ago. You can buy by the case on eBay for a good price but if you're just looking for the Hot-dog suit guy be prepared to shell out at least $15.
  14. Finally landed a case of the Team DFB minifigures, a case of Series 14 and a case of Series 16 since they were pretty cheap. Not a bad score in one day :)
  15. I picked up the ford gt racing set 75881 at the Lego store at the King of Prussia mall (PA) today. They had all the new sets for sale. I'm really digging the Ferrari development set 75882 too which I'll probably go back for. This newest series has some great sets.
  16. Lol. Oh really?? And what are these other "purposes" you speak of or maybe I don't want to know...
  17. Great looking cabooses, love the design. I was never a fan of the Freedom Train scheme but you did the colors very well and the decals are nicely done. I love that BN green though, it really pops. Excellent work!
  18. That pretty much sums it up. There is no mass appeal on trains anymore at least not like it used to be. I really think because of the success with the Holiday train last year that Lego may lean towards another Holiday type train in the near future. That set had mass appeal because it could go under a tree which is the classic Christmas set up, the price point of $99.99 and it wasn't necessary to upgrade to power functions. It appealed to both children and adults. When Lego invests in making a set they need a specific return on investment. The amount of money spent on a single set is a lot higher than one may think. You've got research, employee wages, overhead, production and logistics just to name a handful. Single locomotives and train cars won't provide the return needed to make a standard profit or what Lego considers a standard margin (It's somewhere around 60%-70%). They take enough gambles as it is. Look at the Prince of Persia line. Lego lost a ton of money on that line with the cost of licensing rights coupled with the fact that the film bombed and no one wanted the sets. The rare train releases will continue i'm sure but it will never be a yearly thing. The only other way I could see the one-off sets is if they were voted for in the Lego Ideas line.
  19. Lol! What!?! Nailed it. I've been waiting for someone to say it. I don't think many people on here are familiar with Miami Vice. If they were they would know right away.
  20. I really want to like this ship but it's not happening. There are elements that I like such as the sails and zombie crew but the fact that the hull doesn't exist is really making it hard. I was looking forward to picking one up but I'm not sure if that is going to happen now. I'm also upset that I never bought the Black Pearl when I could have. I never got around to it and it's too much at this point. Hopefully I don't feel the same regret on this one in a few years.
  21. I think it was a big hit due to most holiday sets are very popular, at least over the past few years and it was the most affordable full Lego train set to date. You got a full circle of track and could add PF if you wanted but it wasn't necessary. It was a great gift for children and I wouldn't be surprised if it stays on for 2-3 years. Unfortunately the market for the "adult trains" is not huge or highly profitable when compared to many other sets in the Lego catalog and it's more of a Lego cult thing. I remember seeing Emerald Night and the Maersk set on the Lego store shelves for at least a year, if not longer. They eventually went to clearance at my local Lego store. Anyway, the Holiday Train set (10254) was a big seller for Lego and I don't think its going away anytime soon. Just look at the amount of reviews on the Lego website. It's up to 49 at this point which is a very high number and it's currently on back-order! I wouldn't be surprised if they continue the trend for a long time to come.
  22. After looking back through, that window design is quite ingenious. It really brings the model to a perfect scaled down version. Window designs on most Lego trains are not to scale due to trying to fit a minifigure inside as well as piece availability and so on. Is this something that you picked up along the way or your own design trial and error? Whether it is or not the loco is brilliant. Those hand rails really grab your attention too, such great detail. I would love to have this in my collection.
  23. You've got my vote. Very cool. Due to it's size, I would love a set with 3-4 different era's of the Vespa. I've always wanted a scooter (almost bought a Piaggio) but it just never happened.
  24. I know this is an old review but I just started the build on my set. I'm about halfway through (if that) and just discovered this review which I enjoyed, thank you. I couldn't agree more with the comment above. As I was putting the figures together and I stumbled across this figure I considered leaving him out or changing the hair. That hair piece is horrendous.
