Okay, this isn’t related to the current season, but I was rewatching Day of the Departed and noticed; there are a couple of kids in the audience of the Royal Blacksmiths show that are dressed as Oni! This was two entire years before the Oni were a thing in the show; how far ahead do they plan? Thar’s one hell of an Easter egg.

Also, in case anyone’s interested, the ‘red jacket’ outfit for Jack in the Hidden Side sets (the one that comes in the Lab, among others) seems pretty perfect for a casual Kai (since the only official casual Kai ever was in Ninjago City and not everyone could get that). Thoughts, everyone? Also, thoughts on good legs to pair it with?

The set is absolutely gorgeous. But it's so expensive that I'll need to win the lottery before I can get it . . Are we likely to see it discounted? It's obviously a D2C.

Right now the lore is paper-thin. We’ve heard things about a mysterious ‘Lady E’ who some of the ghosts are related to and is probably the subject of the painting in the school. So that does imply a curse that she started, but other than that we just don’t know yet.

The one with the triangles and bandana on one side? I’m not getting Jay from that, I think it’s a face design from the n3xt villain faction. Personally I think she should have come with a proper snake tail part. The ghost tail really isn’t accurate to ‘snake tail on fire’ . . also would have liked to see a ‘non-fired’ variant of her. Guess we’ll add that to the list of minifigs we need.

The comics also had Doomfist in the jet at some points. So I think it’s likely Doomfist would be in the Talon Jet. Assuming these sets actually are happening, which I really hope they are.

I’ve been messing with the app some more, and the minifig scan gave me two new results; Pianist Elton and Gardener. This implies that there’ll be a haunted garden of some sort next year, and also maybe a concert hall with Mr. Elton playing the piano. Interesting.

This rumour sounds brilliant. I’d love a Talon jet and an Omnic Titan, and if Rio Battle is anything like Dorado Showdown I want it. I still really want a Doomfist . .

I feel exactly the same; the rereleased Toy Shop was the first major purchase I made towards building my city layout (man has it already been two years since I started New Babylon?) and it has pride of place in the Winter Village area. I have been searching for a good deal on the Winter Village Bakery for years, so if they do rerelease it, I’d buy the hell out of that set . . though it would be kind of lame to do that on the 10th anniversary of WV. I’d rather see something big like Assembly Square this year and then a Bakery rerelease next year, personally.

I don’t want to buy them from Shop@Home. I cannot afford to buy them from Shop@Home. I got Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Spaceship and the Party Bus at about 55% of what Lego wanted me to pay for them, and I couldn’t have afforded them full price from Shop@Home. And I refuse to pay $80 for a 405-piece set, exclusive minifigures be damned. If anyone sees them on Amazon, tell me . .

As awesome as all this would be, I really don’t want to see Hidden Side devolve into a mess of sequential sub themes like Nexo Knights and Friends did and China in its third year. Or Ninjago, but the biannual subthemes of Ninjago have become veritably epynonymous.

I agree, it was just a suggestion. I'd still rather see Jack or Parker's house and family as a medium to big set in an upcoming wave. And personally I think the Shrimp Shack is supposed to go with the boat. It's a Shrimp fishing boat, and a restaurant that sells shrimp, and part of the restaurant is built like a little dock. That's not to say I wouldn't like a lighthouse, I'd love a lighthouse.

That sounds awesome. I'd replace the Treehouse with an actual house for Jack or Parker, though, maybe including gloom-able versions of their parents or a younger sibling. I feel like the absence of parents for Jack and Parker is a very noticeable plot hole, and I know Hidden Side isn't as narrative-focused as, say, Ninjago or Chima, but I can't imagine that their families would have no objections to them risking their lives to fight ghosts. Unless they're both orphans who know each other by way of growing up in the same orphanage, in which case we need a haunted orphanage and a gloom-able orphanage director/den mother.

Do tell? I got the Graveyard today and an opportunity to try out the AR app with the Graveyard and the Shrimp Boat. Might not be able to get any more for a while - waiting for a sale on the High School for one. The AR’s fun, and aspects of it are surprisingly difficult; usually games like this just give you victories after you use toys and stuff to unlock content. I’m not very far in yet, but I’ve tried the boss battles in both sets - Captain Archibald and the Mamali - multiple times and always lost before even getting the boss down to half health. It seems like I need to play and upgrade a lot before I have a chance of beating and capturing them, which is surprising and honestly makes me want to play it more than if it just handed me the victories. The AR could use some polishing; it's particularly annoying when I put a minifigure on the model and then part of it vanishes behind the scenery. But that's the only real complaint so far, it's otherwise fine.

Do you unlock content based on the figs? I thought you got content mostly from builds? Still haven't tried the app myself, but the recent destruction of my old iPad has made upgrading a priority so I will in the next couple of days.

I have literally the most recent phone that the app doesn't work on. So you certainly have a point. I picked up the boat today too - would have gotten more, but the Legacy Monastery of Spinjitzu was on discount and I have been waiting for the right opportunity to get that one for months and I couldn't get any more without going over budget. It really is a gorgeous boat, and it fits perfectly in my modified Ninjago City Docks. (In which I rotated the dock ninety degrees.) For me, I'm gonna wait for a good Target sale to get the High School, and I'm also eyeing up the Graveyard and Shrimp Shack. I want the Ghost Train too, but I suspect that the Juice Bar promo we've seen will be a Shop@Home exclusive with Hidden Side purchases so I'm gonna hold off on getting the Ghost Train until the Juice Bar becomes available.

So we heard on the app that there's code to recognise Pilot and Stewardess minifigures, which implies that one of the upcoming sets is going to be a Possessed Plane. The existence of a Stewardess implies that it's going to be a passenger plane, which means it'll probably be big. Based on the rumoured part counts, I suspect it'll be 70431 or 70432. Or one of the ones with unnumbered part counts. Thoughts? Speaking of which, I'm just now noticing that none of the leaked part counts at all approach this year's larger sets, the Haunted High School had close to three times the largest known set of this wave. If the known and unknown sets are different waves, that would imply a smaller supplementary wave for winter next year. But if this is all one wave, then I suspect that the unknown ones will be on the larger side.

Ah. Shoot. I don't know what Armitage means, but Pilot and Stewardess are pretty conclusive. Sounds like we'll get a Hidden Side possessed plane next year. (Which could be awesome if done right.) And YouTuber Parker is also indicative that next year they might start animated shorts in YouTube from a first-person perspective of Parker blogging about their ghostbusting ghost hunting. Also interesting to know that (in theory) you can use any Hidden Side minifigure from any set with any set's AR. On an unrelated note, having finally seen reviews of the Banana Truck, I'm happy to see that El Fuego is not an exclusive character, but rather a variant of the same Mr. Elton that appears in the Lab and High School. That's a relief, the way I was envisioning it was that Mr. Elton was in those sets as some kind of saboteur (hence why he was possessed in the Lab) and Lego had made the fourth hero, El Fuego, exclusive to the Truck set. I'm glad, now I don't have to get the Truck to have all four of the heroes.

A possessed version of Parker? Like, you scanned Parker and it said she was possessed or I tried actually showed an image of Parker with a ghost head? If so can you share a picture?

Prior to the Infinity War wave, they used bright blonde for Thor's hair instead of the nougat colour they're using now, and we got the Momoa Aquaman hair in blonde in that Bat-Sub set, try that?
