  1. I like the looks of this one so much that I ordered three from TRU's website yesterday. I will probaly also get a few of the impulse sets and the dock. Despite what some people say I do like the new pirate line (though the ship is a bit out of my price range right now).
  2. Such a great tribute. I'm not British but I have read in the papers here in the U.S.A. about this and I think it's great what is done for the veterans. In my local paper there a picture of the pensioners on parade and it was amazing. I cannot imagine a war like that occurring in these times, a war in which the fate of the world hangs in the balance. I hope that the ones who have fought and dies in all these wars are always remembered. I hope that BA releases those tommie hats soon. I have been drooling over them since I saw them a few months back.
  3. I play trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and mellophone/French horn. I was in band from 5th grade until my 4th year of college so I picked up a lot of different instruments. I have played in high school stadiums all over my state for football and in Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arizona in my college marching band. It was a great time, sometimes I even miss it.
  4. I've been keeping up with the story so far. I think traveling through the park would be a nice change of pace from the greyness of the road and the truck. I think the green will help to spice up the scenery. Therefore I vote for the park.
  5. I've said it once, I'll say it again as often as I need to: The best Star Wars film is Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Why do I say this? First off, we see the Empire behaving as it would when faced with a rebellion, using every resource to wipe them out, including capturing leaders, making illicit deals, and overwhelming force to eliminate the threat. Secondly the film doesn't use visual effects as a crutch. It is a lot like a staged play: there is only so much scenery you can have, the imagination fills in the rest. To me the flashy effects distract and detract from the story line as I gt absorbed in effects rather than the story. Third, the lightsaber fight sequence on Cloud City is, in my opinion, the most iconic. We see How strong Vader is for the first time, both with the force and his lightsaber prowess. We also get the atmosphere, when Luke and Vader begin fighting there is the steam all around. Then, at the end of the sequence, we learn the secret past of Darth Vader. Luke has a choice: go with his evil father or fall, perhaps to his death. There is so much character development at this moment. It is such a deep film in that regard. On a side note: You know that a Jedi is never supposed to be aggresive, right? They are supposed to be defensive at all times and avoid conflict unless the fight MUST happen. But, when you watch the saga take a look at who usually ignites their saber first. I'll give you a clue: It's not the badguys, this is as true in Episode I as it is in Episode VI. Think about it next time you watch a Star Wars film. Makes you think.
  6. Oh my wow. That is BEAUTIFUL! I love the landscaping on it. I really do love how you have the spear in the stockade wall to make it look sharpened. I have seen it done with the viking horns before but never with spears. If only I had enough cylinders, cones and spears. That is a really good idea! LOVE IT!
  7. Oh, sorry. That wasn't exactly what I meant. I had heard rumors that the Czech LEGO factory had serious security issues and that is where a lot of the leaks and "Early releases" were coming from. I apologize for the misunderstanding. The set looks incredible and I can't wait for your review to be finished.
  8. I think I have a sneaking suspicion how he came across that set. I won't mention it here but I think I know. I must say that I am jealous but I can wait until it is released. This set does look amazing though!
  9. Gosh I can't wait for this set to be released. Between this and the new pirates lineup I will be broke! Oh well. I guess I'll be getting my LEGO purchases taken care of early next year...
  10. Ooh. Phu Nham. The legendary sniper. I hope you plan on doing some more MOCs inspired from this great book.
  11. Any way we can get pics? I would especially like to see the new shield. Thanks!
  12. I agree with your sentiments about Ras. He was always a great character with tons of depth in the comics and 90s cartoon. I think these figs are great and I know they would make an awesome addition to any LEGO Batdisplay (even though I don't collect the LEGO Batman line).
  13. My grandmother and her two brothers lived in New Jersey when the broadcast was made. She has told me stories about how there were a lot of people freaking out and running through the streets to get out of town. She said that her family (mother, father, brothers and her) were all down in their basement with blankets listening to the broadcast. She said it was very scary to her since she was just a young girl. It was a great production and despite the fact that the announcers broke in more than once to say that it was just a radio show and that there was no invasion people still panicked and ran around like they were all going to be annihilated. I wish I could have been around then to hear it as it originally aired.
  14. I am most excited about castle, but since it isn't even present on the poll I guess I won't be voting...
  15. I think white-out would work as it is basically a paint and is applied with a brush rather than with a felt tip. With white-out it is at least fairly easy to remove if it doesn't look good... should just flake right off.
  16. Don't do it. I have done this with one of mine and it ends up looking bad. the black doesn't look black when applied to brown. It appears very dark red. Plus the tight spaces where the brim meets the crown of the hat is impossible to get to with a standard sharpie. If you want to recolor it I would suggest model paint or wait until the new Indy sets come out and get one of the black fedoras from the Chinese gangsters.
  17. I just left my job at a restaurant where we had to wear gloves whenever we were handling food of any kind. I don't really build City themed MOCs but I can see how the fleshie hands would give that appearance of having gloves on. That's a good idea and I think that a lot of the City builders out there could use the idea in their restaurants.
  18. If you haven't done it yet 'd like to see one of Jim Morrison from The Doors. He was very popular in the late '60s and early '70s and still maintains a following today despite his death at a young age. There are plenty of pictures that can be easily found.
  19. Thanks for the explanation on the motivation.
  20. All shall bow down before his mighty noodley appendage! I read your post and thought: why would an atheist construct a church out of all other city building possibilities. Please enlighten me to your inspiration. For the record I am not a religious person either (not an atheist by any means, just not religious).
  21. Vader v. Luke on Cloud City. The atmosphere is perfect and the music suit the action very well. There only a few visual effects and the sparseness of the set allows you to focus more on the action rather than the scenery.
  22. Going by the pics that KimT so graciously added my torsos go like this: 1) Archers. 2) Swordsmen and axemen. 3) Low ranking spearmen of whom I have many of. As many of the low ranking soldier would be responsible for providing their own arm and equipment in times of war it makes sense that lowest ranking men who are also not formally trained, would have the simplest uniform with the least protection. Archer would need something with some protection but with more mobility to allow for rapidly reloading their bows. And the heavier troops who would man the front lines would need the most protection and would have the shoulder armor along with the mail coat.
  23. Oh my. This, I think, is a very good thing. I may have to buy this. It looks very good.
  24. I thought it was funny that the one I had shipped to me via a member of another board visiting the US arrived before the ones offered by TLC even shipped out AND mine was cheaper ($36 as opposed to $38). And I do think it was stupid of TLC to cave when some US Lego fans cried about not getting one set. And yes, I do live in the USA. I heard it wasn't coming here so I made other arrangements to get it, without complaining about the availability.
  25. Hey guys! Add +1 for ExoBuilder for a great trade!
